i suppose that would depend on how many $1000 coins one holds  Wink

And whether you are 'wealthy elite' at
- $100,000
- $1,000,000
- $10,000,000
- $20,000,000
- $50,000,000
- $100,000,000

Where is the cutoff?

Exactly. And for those who know bitcoin tech, Ralph Merkle is an Alcor.org director and member. As in Merkle trees.

Exactly. They don't rip the cells to shreds. They vitrify them. It's like plasticizing. You guys should read up on the newer technology for cryonics. You sound like stock market guys trying to comment on bitcoin :-)

...off of food stamps ...

So, someone is sucking off the rest of us in order to invest in something that has good prospects for future growth.  Nice.   And I bet they'll never repay the rest of us for their parasitic behavior.  :-)
3984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need to switch to mBTC soon on: November 26, 2013, 08:55:47 PM
I know.  I said the same thing to her - people said it at $1, $5, $10, $50, $100, $266, $500, and now.  ;-)

I read it here when they were saying it!

I agree.  My wife's aunt said the same thing today.

Its still a need.

A solution is needed.

Anyone who claims this isn't an issue has no non-BTC friends or family.

Anyone who has non BTC friends or family that aren't loaded, has heard someone say "I cant buy in now.  Its too late.  Its too expensive".

LOL

this has been said forever.

BTC went up SO quick since its inception, that it always has been "too expensive" for everybody that does not understand that it definitely has the potential to go to +$100k per coin.

In 2012 and early-Jan 2013, $12 was "too expensive" because its price was $2 a few months before

In Summer 2013, when the bubble popped, $100 was "too expensive" because the price was $12 just a few months before

Now, $800 is "too expensive" because the price was $130 a few weeks ago.

WAKE UP, the "problem" is how fast it grows, "expensive" is a RELATIVE and not an absolute term. Your family thinks its TOO EXPENSIVE because they know it went up many orders of magnitude very quickly, and thus they automatically assume now its "expensive". Switching to mBTC won't fix that. To fix that you need to educate them so they understand what BTC could mean in the future.
3985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need to switch to mBTC soon on: November 26, 2013, 05:17:04 PM
I agree.  With all the press, they ask though!  :-)

Maybe these people shouldn't be buying BTC?

I agree.  My wife's aunt said the same thing today.  "I'll buy when it is back to $600".  I said people said that at 200, 100, 10 and 1.

3987  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Another Cold Storage Question on: November 26, 2013, 01:03:45 PM
Hi,
1. The wiki is right.  Maybe put most coins you don't intend to spend in there, keep some in a different wallet. You'll want to rebackup them, yes.
2.  One of the deterministic wallets - armory etc - May do that, I am not 100 sure
3. You could just verify the address had the funds on blockchain.info for example without importing unless you have another reason to do so

:-)
3988  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to buy?! on: November 26, 2013, 12:57:02 PM
A lot depends on your location, but coinbase.com is fast and reputable. They are not perfect, but they are pretty good.

Regarding paypal, I haven't heard of exceptions.

:-)

Hi All!

new to the craze, I'm looking to buy a bitcoin. What is the fastest method? I know PayPal is not accepted, does anyone make an exception to that?

Thank you!
3989  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie first post on: November 26, 2013, 12:55:08 PM
Once you have been on here for four hours, plus the post, then the status changes. Lots of interesting stuff to read. :-)

Hi everyone,

Been lurking for months. I got into the game pre-Cyprus and got a load of 7970's to mine quite a bit. Back then it was less than 40 dollars and quite different from what we have today. In retrospect, it would have been much, much more profitable to just buy BTC and sit on it rather than go into mining. Oh, well.

Just put in an order for some BlackArrow Prospero miners, slated for late February delivery. Fingers crossed. Should be nice.

Buying coins is a pain as the banks don't really let you transfer money that easily in my country. Easier to buy miners.

So, what else can I say? So now I just sit and wait for my newbie status to be lifted, right?
3990  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is it so hard to buy bitcoin? on: November 26, 2013, 12:52:35 PM
Much of this is the result of regulation which slows the process.

I do agree that coinbase can be a good solution for now since it is quite fast in most cases. They are not perfect though by any stretch of the imagination.
3991  Economy / Economics / Re: China investors buying up california real estate...coorelation to btc? on: November 26, 2013, 12:10:13 PM
There were similar stories in the 80s about Japan and US real estate.  While I hope the Chinese continue to invest in btc, there is often lots of hype like this about real estate. :-)

http://www.nbcnews.com/business/chinese-buying-california-housing-2D11650640

To me, this practice, of draining practical wealth from the US is something that is calculated on the part of the chinese. Nobody in the US will pay for absorbent house prices nor is the US apt at the thought of $800 bitcoins, thus we sell, and chinese buy. As the article states, the chinese want to find a safe store of value for their wealth and they think housing in america is a good investment, and as we've seen btc as well. The chinese may play a bigger role in the eventual acceptance of bitcoin than we think. Similar to every time I walk into the grocery store everything is made in china, I have to accept that reality, because china cornered that market, and sooner or later, everyone will have to use bitcoins, because china cornered that market as well.

- Initiative for an Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) in European

Who are you forcing to provide you with the Unconditional Basic Income?  Or is there some magic money tree somewhere that you can pick it from?

I sympathize with the problem with mtgox.  Don't give up, it may just take them time.
3993  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need some help, Transaction not confirmed, really confused :S on: November 25, 2013, 11:37:48 PM
Hi,
Do you know if you paid a fee? If you share the transaction number (but never the private key) people can help look into it.

Hey guys, I ended up buying bitcoin off my buddy lastnight.

I downloaded multibit....set up the wallet....and he transferred me the bitcoin.

I then paid him.

It was showing lastnight that i got the bitcoin, but the transaction is not yet confimed, so i said whatever and turned off my computer.

Its now about 18 hours later, i open up my wallet right now so i can send to BTC-e and it still says "transaction not yet confirmed. Seen by 3 peers"

Then i looked at the date in multibit and it says the 17th, my computers time and date was wrong....i hope that doesnt affect anything.

So i fixed the time.

I then click veiw transaction on blockchain and block explorer and they say the date as today.

At the bottom of my multibit wallet it says synchronizing with network fot about a half hour now, 221 block downloading...but i dont see any progress on the green bar.

So what exactly needs to be done so i can transfer these to BTC-E?

Did i mess something up with my computer clock being the wrong time? Or do i just wait? Does multibit NEED to be open?

Thanks ahead of time for any responses Smiley
3994  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Forum positions on: November 25, 2013, 04:58:36 PM
Min is not minutes, but minimum. So whichever is less the number of posts OR the time * 14 with time being the number of two week periods you have had at least one post.

So if you have 20 posts in two weeks you'd take the minimum value of:
20 posts and (1 two week period x 14) which would give you a 14 activity level since 14 is less than 21.

If you posted once during the next two weeks you would have a total of 21 posts and 2 two week periods you were active. So you would take the minimum of 21 or (2 x 14).

Your activity would be 21 since 21 is less than 28.

Hope that helps.

This should explain:

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every 30 minutes.

The new membergroup limits work like this:
GroupRequirement
Brand New0 posts
Newbie(none)
Jr. Member1 post written over 4 hours ago
Memberactivity: 15
Full Memberactivity: 60
Sr. Memberactivity: 200
Hero Memberactivity: 400

I'm not 100% sure that the membergroups work correctly. Tell me if you see any bugs.

not sure i get how the activity number is calculated.. could you further elaborate?

minutes x (time * 14, posts)? i'm not familiar with what this means. so say i'm here for 4 weeks total, that makes min (2x14).. and i don't know how the posts calculate.
3995  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-21 Bloomberg: China will not increase dollar reserves anymore on: November 25, 2013, 04:17:47 PM
Do the same with the Euro (unless it is the Cyprus Euro). Lol

They should encourage their businesses to cease accepting USD in export operations and switch to bitcoin, which then to be exchanged for CNY.

3996  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-23 - NYTimes Blog - Study Suggests Link Between DPR and Satoshi on: November 25, 2013, 11:39:02 AM
This is a method of trying to discredit Bitcoon by trying to tie Satoshi to DPR. Then they can try and tarnish the whole thing by smearing him.

3998  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why the Winklevoss ETF will send Bitcoin to the moon. on: November 25, 2013, 02:45:46 AM
They did file this in July, so we are nearly 5 months from July 1st to now.

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1579346/000119312513279830/d562329ds1.htm

"It often takes more than a year from the date of an initial exemptive relief filing for a company’s first ETF to hit the market." - http://www.indexuniverse.com/sections/features/16598-sec-may-streamline-etf-approval-process.html

So "years" may be a bit overstated, but it's very commonly more than a year.
Geez.  Thats ridiculous.  A year?   This is going to be ancient history by then.
3999  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-24 Rischio Calcolato - The bitcoin envy on: November 25, 2013, 02:39:43 AM
Very true.  They'll do it themselves or elect thugs to do it for them.

OPSEC - Operational Security

Keep your mouths shut. We live in a world of progressive, irrational, riotous and politically correct retards who will kill you and your family for making them feel bad... and for your wealth.

Curb the narcissistic tendencies and maintain OPSEC.

At the end of the day it's no ones business but yours what you got and how you got it.

Bitcoin is no longer monopoly money used for some doobage. This shit is getting serious. Treat it seriously.

Look at GLD.  This is their model.

Most of the gold ETF's in Canada hold gold COMPANIES..not gold itself. Otherwise, why bother with the ETF's MER?  Waste of money....just hold gold outright.
