41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO help on: January 08, 2018, 04:12:32 PM
Also to add, an ICO is often used interchangeably with "token sale", which is what it essentially is. For regulators, the term "ICO" ("īnitial coin offering") is too close for comfort to "IPO" ("initial public offering", the process of taking a company public to trade its shares on stock exchanges) which has prompted some countries to treat token sales as equity offerings and block or hinder them as a result. ICOs generally don't give away company equity, just tokens to be utilized in their future product.

So, if I buy a token in ICO, I don't buy a part/share of that company as it would happen in IPO? Then what's in it for me.. I mean just the tokens to be used in their future product and funding their business (while they make millions) doesn't sound fair..

Have I got this wrong?

Correct. You are essentially crowdfunding the business idea or a new project, in the hopes that the product is built, the project is successful, and the tokens you own appreciate in value to give you a return on your investment. That's the hope. No one (okay maybe some, but very few) buys tokens just to be able to use them up later... Most token buyers hope for a big break for the token/coin they've invested in to profit from it in future.
So the ICO model is what I think is a modern ponzi scheme, and I think the countries need to regulate the ICO.

Well, not all token sales are ponzi schemes. Some set very reasonable hardcaps that allow them to collect just enough funds to deliver the product. But you are entitled to your opinion of course.

43  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Activity points calculator? Done :) on: January 05, 2018, 02:55:56 PM
Here is a little gem of knowledge that's often omitted from all activity calculator discussion: If you make more than 14 posts a fortnight, they don't go to waste. The excess posts will count as additional activity in the future activity periods where you've made less than 14 posts.

Oh man, this is great to know! Explains how I got more Activity immediately after recalculation took place.

Thanks for the calculator OP. Fun to play with.

hi all am newbie here, please answer is there a limit to how many posts per day that I can immediately rank, thx

I think so.. I'm also flagged as Newbie .. I get suspended every now & then for 360 seconds then I can write back  Smiley

There is a limit as to how often you can post: Newbies have to wait 360 seconds between each reply, which decreases as you get more Activity.

You can't rank immediately, Ibu Efi333. Max Activity points you can earn every 2 weeks is 14.

UPD.

Thank you for starting this!

Mostly responding to monitor the thread, but here is a fun question I'm sure lots of newbies wonder about:

If I wanted to buy bitcoin from a bitcoin ATM, how would it work? Do I need to come with my wallet address handy? Would I just walk up to it, give it cash and leave to start waiting for BTC to pop up in my wallet? Or?
47  Local / Новички / Re: Шпаргалка для новичков. on: January 04, 2018, 09:34:56 PM

48  Local / Новички / Re: Как заработать on: January 04, 2018, 09:23:41 PM

Agree most are trying to turn  $1 into $10000.  There are a lot that will never develop and some are looking to get free $$$.  Do your research, look at whitepapers, google em, look here, reddit, twitter etc.  Look up their principles in places like LinkedIn, and validate that they are real and not some stock photo with fake credentials.  Some ICOs are restricted based on where you live, how much you will invest, what currency you are using EUD, USD, BTC, ETH etc.  Some will give you a bonus depending on what you invest, if you are socially active, referral etc.  There are tons of projects out there and some good opportunities.  Find something you are passionate about or interested in and research ICOs in that area.

Sound advice! Lots of ICOs are in it to make a quick buck and run. Still there are lots who are legit trying to get something off the ground but may still fail. Do your homework before buying tokens and never forget that it's a gamble.

52  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any signature campaigns for newbies? on: December 29, 2017, 05:30:59 PM
As a newbie, you are very limited in terms of formatting you can apply to your signature, and links are not allowed. So there is little value in accepting a newbie to a signature campaign.

As others said, participate in bounty (social media especially) while you grow your rank on here.
53  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining on: December 27, 2017, 08:29:27 PM
The only way to make money with cloud mining is, when you promote cloud mining and you earn from the referral links (the "use my promotion Code" thing).

Isn't this the definition of a pyramid scheme? So yeah, stay away from cloud mining. It's usually too good to be true.
Yes, in my Opinion Cloud Mining is a Ponzi scheme.

Images if you had a money printing machine, would you rent this money printing machine to other people?
It make no sense to me.

Nor to me. Although I understand the appeal, especially for newbies... that's how they get ya.
54  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptocurrency related stocks on: December 27, 2017, 07:38:48 PM
Do you by any chance mean stocks of "traditional" companies that are starting to pivot to blockchain and crypto? Or companies in the crypto space specifically?

As an experienced non-crypto trader, you could probably make a quick buck on stuff like this: https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurengensler/2017/12/21/an-iced-tea-company-says-its-pivoting-to-blockchain-stock-rockets-higher/#49870cb4cde4 (I still can't decide if it's a joke or not)

57  Local / Новички / Re: Как заработать on: December 22, 2017, 07:31:58 PM

59  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Passwords on: December 20, 2017, 06:52:35 PM
You could try LastPass password manager - it's free: https://www.lastpass.com/

Wouldn't offline be safer though?

UPDATE:
Here's the suggestion of LastPass for a master password: A memorable passphrase is the easiest way to create a super strong master password. Just look around for inspiration. It could include the lyrics to a song, a quote from a movie and the color of your favorite coffee mug.

And I just read this article about an hour ago (old but good): https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/10/how-the-bible-and-youtube-are-fueling-the-next-frontier-of-password-cracking/

*shudder*
