41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: NXT Freemarket is the BEST available option for a decentralized marketplace! on: July 02, 2015, 12:09:24 PM
OP speaks the truth, title is spot on.

But does this mean 'people' are only interested in decentralized market places if drugs/guns/etc are for sale? What is stopping Freemarket taking off?

Answers on a postcard, seems a knotty problem.

Before Nxt's oldest troll interrupted, we almost had a conversation going on the above.

Any thoughts?
42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nothing-at-Stake & Long Range Attack on Proof-of-Stake (Consensus Research) on: July 02, 2015, 11:52:10 AM
Update:

No activity in the subforum for last months, but we continue to work!  Smiley

1. Scorex, our fully working cryptocurrency prototype, was pre-announced on BitcoinTalk. Hopefully, will be announced soon here & on BitcoinTalk. We plan to use it to check our ideas in the close-to-real-world environment. https://github.com/ConsensusResearch/Scorex-Lagonaki

2. I made alternative constructive proof of the FLP theorem with Coq: https://github.com/ConsensusResearch/flp . Hope to publish a paper about that in a peer-reviewed journal. andruiman has some Coq code done around CC transactions layer, will be published later.

3. We have some proposals on PoS improvements, preparing to publish them along with possible attack vectors, in form of blogposts and/or reviewed papers(seems we will write no non-reviewed internet papers on that).

4. We're starting to work with jl777 on research around crypto777. andruiman is starting to check its' pegging ideas.

5. More news soon Smiley

So progress is not super-fast, but we're making it Smiley

@tnxgrid

Talking of modelling, Kushti has started a topic for his "Ultracompact Cryptocurrency Engine for Hackers" known as Scorex > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1060567.0

It would be interesting to run your models through this as a comparison. It is based around Nxt and Qora POS (you can switch by just changing a constant, I'm told). Might show up any differences in your approach and lead to more light.

47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best coin for POS on: June 25, 2015, 07:41:31 PM
I'm surprised to see that NXT and NEM have been mentioned several times in this thread. I understand that both of these coins have fixed coin supplies with no inflation and so all staking rewards are derived from transaction fees. Thing is, I checked the NEM block explorer a couple of months ago and I could see that most blocks back then had zero fees. Has the tx volume picked up considerably since then?

Same goes for NXT. According to this calculator, 100,000 NXT (worth $1,300) would only forge 0.8 NXT (worth $0.01) per day. That doesn't seem very high IMHO.

You are right about no inflation.

POS = network security algo.

The OP, and those not familiar with Proof of Stake, often refer to the inflation model as just POS. POS can have inflation or no inflation. I have discussed with a few people who see inflation as 'interest', like you get in a bank, and not what it actually is and it's role in eroding value.

Title should read 'Best Coin for inflation' as I think that is the intention, but posters are reading it as 'best POS coin/platform' when giving their answers. That is my take.

50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can I Reserve an Alt Coin Name? on: June 25, 2015, 07:31:12 PM
My company is considering an alt coin dev, can I reserve the name of the coin?

If so whats the best way to approach this.

Thanks

What use case(s) would you coin have/require?
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM's unfair distribution and failure on: June 25, 2015, 07:16:14 PM
I see from this and your other posts you have lapsed back into your old rut. Especially amusing to see you talk about burden of proof with your history  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Great to have you back UP !   Grin

NEM was doomed at the begin when UtopianFuture was discovered own lots of sock puppet.  And it's hardly success. When i recieved my stake token, i sell it as soon as possible. And i keep away from it.

Proof?  Evidence?  Do you have it?

Shifting the burden of proof (negative claim) is a logical fallacy and not valid under dialetics used by the professional world.  If you stormed into a courtroom and said someone was a murderer, and you had no proof and claim it's the defendent's responsibility to prove his own innocence, the Judge would laugh you out the room.

It's been a year and I have yet to see anyone, in the meantime, produce a list of "lots of sockpuppets" that allegedly belong to UtopianFuture.  All we know is Ghosthouse.

Waiting to see anyone, only been waiting a year, to produce a list of names and evidence to go along with.  If you really want to kill NEM then there is your chance.  Most of the team is around is due to faith that the distribution was not (fatally) compromised.  If you can submit evidence of say UF owning 100 socks, and names and good reasons why you think it is UF, many would leave tomorrow.

Seems like it's just baseless FUD started by NXTers  who saw their baby at risk.  Need I point out NXTers also regularly attack Bitshares and other coins.

NXT = 4chan of crypto.  Bunch of childish losers who troll at everything and try to suck up to their millionaire whales, thinking they'll get money from them, but I can guarantee that most have received nothing and never will.

52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New to Alt-Coins after leaving BTC behind years ago. Any advice? on: June 25, 2015, 07:11:20 PM
Interesting info Dave. I admit I've not looked closely at NXT before. I'll take a closer look at it. Definitely looks underpriced though, so I may get a long position in the coin at the very least.

You can check out Nxt without downloading the Client or blockchain here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1084085.0

Do your own research. My experience is once people try Nxt, they like Nxt.

59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin on: June 25, 2015, 06:47:26 PM
Apparently there's only a listing fee of one nxt according to their website. I personally don't really care enough to download the client and look through it myself though.

Not entirely sure exactly what you are referring too... there is a fee to interact with the blockchain (send transaction, send encrypted message, buy an asset, register an alias, buy something from Freemarket (ebay) etc) as a spam deterrent. If it wasn't there, anyone who had bad intentions could bloat the blockhain for free. It is the same for all cryptos.

Luckily for you, you don't need to download the client. You can trial it for free with 200,000 (fake) NXT here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1084085.0

Give it a whirl
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: June 25, 2015, 05:16:11 PM
when is nxt anonymity feature coming out and how does it work? any ideas yet?

Coin-shuffling?

*checks OP of https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=831202.0*

It is due for the next version, NRS v.1.6, the last I heard.

Info can be found here...
https://nxtforum.org/monetary-system/ms-coin-for-shuffling-nxt/
And...
https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/issue/135

It is based around a shufflable MSCurrency, you buy the shufflable coin, it gets shuffled, then you sell back for Nxt (AFAIK, I might be out of date). I guess whichever shufflable coin has the biggest volume first will have more to shuffle, therefore more anonymity? Don't quote me  Grin
