41  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are corporations people? on: December 23, 2013, 02:01:51 AM
Corporations were intended to be limited projects for public good that were dissolved after their purpose was achieved.  They were only granted under extremely limited circumstances.

Yes...  Unnecessary damage to the image the voters had about the validity of the system.
43  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Former CIA chief: Snowden should be “hanged by the neck until dead” on: December 23, 2013, 01:48:58 AM
CIA +1

Snowden is a criminal and a traitor, he deserves to be tried as one and found guilty and imprisoned forever!!

He just revealed the wrongdoings of the NSA, and somehow he should be imprisoned?  The government has done far worst, so should they be imprisoned forever?

Actually what he has done has broke his security clearance with information he was entrusted in keeping. By leaking that information he is a criminal and a traitor and he deserves to be tried for it. The action is the crime, the subject matter how much society deems it good and helpful doesn't negate the crime.
Actually it does, that is why we have protections for whistleblowers.  Of course the status quo doesn't want their secrets dispersed.  They have the power to keep secrets from the public, and this destroys democracy.  Our only recourse is leaking them.
44  Other / Politics & Society / Re: if you know somebody who's looking for work.... on: December 23, 2013, 01:41:24 AM
Yeah, it's hard to blame a person who would risk their life to come here to live in conditions that many US citizens would find appalling, while doing a job they wouldn't.

Shift the blame to the the policy and politicians, if you want to blame someone.  It's not something that is easily stopped, though.  Most economists agree that it is beneficial for the overall economy, anyway.
45  Other / Politics & Society / Obama on NSA spying on: December 23, 2013, 01:33:39 AM
The fact of the matter is that the United States, for all our warts, is a country that abides by rule of law, that cares deeply about privacy, that cares about civil liberties, that cares about the Constitution,” concluded the President.

This was the end of a speech about spying on the public. If this is a country that cares about the rule of law I, we're left to assume he meant secret laws.
Civil liberties? You mean like voting rights? If we have no oversight, how can you call it a democracy? They just do anything they want and say it protects us from terrorism. Sure we could vote them out of office when there is something untenable pushed through.. if corporations didn't have a stranglehold on the system. How can we even do that, though, if we don't know what they're doing? It would be very surprising to find out that there were not other secrets that are being kept from public view.
As for caring about the constitution, that's quite a joke. How can he get away with saying these things? In the mainstream media he is only questioned by republicans, who have no credibility in attacking him. They lost that after rooting for their heroes when they constantly obstructed democracy in Obama's first term.
The left-right paradigm is only bringing us closer to totalitarian democracy. If this was found out while a republican was in office, liberal minded people would be protesting. Now they are unsure, indifferent, and even defending the policy.

Don't think that articles like this just show ignorance about new technology.  It's a willful ignorance, half intentional.  This allows them to write negative articles that get general public attention and a huge backlash from the pro bitcoin crowd.  Negative articles are better at getting clicks, so more get written.
It's unfortunate that journalists are not interested in the truth, as much as ratings, and that their audience can't see this.  They would ignore this tactic quickly if they were willing to research.

48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Major Project set to test bitcoins true strengths on Sovereign Tribal Nation on: December 20, 2013, 04:33:03 PM
1. Get a few local people to confirm the project using a simple video camera, phone, any handheld digital camera, tablet

2. Post it to youtube
Good idea, interview some local merchants that are into the idea

Hehe, that was mentioned around page 3 or 4.
50  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-12-19 Forbes article on the Oyate Initiave on: December 19, 2013, 04:14:36 PM
A new project to use bitcoin as a community is starting up.  A disenfranchised community is going to use bitcoin to improve the lives of it's members.  Sounds like a boon for them and bitcoin.

lol beet, I think that may be overdoing it.  If you don't think that there are people conspiring against other people in a large way it would be the first time in human civilization.

The real problem is that many wealthy people create the laws that control how wealth is handled, and disturb the order to the point that the ability for others to maintain the standard lifestyle is destroyed.  Then they propagandize and create their own order in society, destroying education, and creating a mindless subservient class that thinks they have a chance at the same privilege.

At first glance it looks like a sarcastic prank..  who can tell, though.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apparently Bitcoin was one of the answers on Jeopardy tonight? on: December 13, 2013, 08:49:03 PM
Interesting they framed it in that way, no central bank.  That must be the dictionary definition.  I'll be glad when it makes it's way into spellcheckers...  I'm tired of 'buffoon' popping up when I try to type in bitcoin.  Roll Eyes

Bitcoin is an investment choice of a comic cynical, burnt out, drug addicted, porn addicted, sex addicted smoker that makes some of the worst business decisions on television. The writers of the show must hate Bitcoin. They are subliminally telling the audience how bad Bitcoin is as an investment. Stay away from anything Krusty touches because you will fail like he does. I'm not convinced all publicity is good. Publicity can also turn something into a public joke.

Sinead O’Connor on October 3, 1992 appeared on Saturday Night Live. As part of her live performance, she held up a picture of the Pope, said “Fight the real enemy!” and then tore the picture (the action was a reference to the child sex abuse scandals then being experienced by the Catholic church).  The backlash was severe, and her career was basically destroyed.

Likely, though, that they were just using a newly popular meme to get a laugh.
