41  Economy / Service Announcements / New Crypto Trading Hints & Tips on Twitter.Follow for chance of a small FTC win! on: August 12, 2013, 05:10:25 PM
Hi all, over on BTCe I trade and chat as DunningKruger. I've decided to push all my trading related tweets onto a new Twitter account of the same name https://twitter.com/DunningKruger_ (note the underscore!)

I've been trading the 'real' markets since 2009 but cryptocurrencies just since early this year. My real job sometimes involves a little teaching and I enjoy giving one-to-one Skype tutorials for trading currently priced at 0.5 BTC per hour.

As a small bonus, I'll give away 10 FTC to a random follower at midnight tonight GMT (7PM EST, 11PM UTC).

I'll be talking about mostly BTC, LTC, FTC and XPM as these are the coins I trade and know best.

It's not about pump and dumps, it's not about misinformation, in fact I hate FUD and see enough of it in the BTCe trollbox. Rather than simply rant about it in chat, I'll debunk it chunk by chunk via Twitter.

Mods: no idea if this fits here!

It is also possible that this rise is a bull trap.

I find the terms 'bull trap' and 'bear trap' meaningless. It's so obvious that you need to consider these things when day-trading. That the price might retrace after going up or down too much.

As humans, our sense of narrative drives everything we do or feel, often to the detriment of being able to objectively analyse the facts.

Basically, we like to make a nice story to sum up what's happened to make it easy to remember and learn from.

Bearing that hindrance in mind, here's my prediction for BTC for the next 90 days:

Up down up up down up down up down up down down down up up down up up up up up down sideways.
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 22, 2013, 03:15:20 PM
I can't find the post to quote it, but MCXnow is claiming to be the leading Primecoin exchange? I've never seen their daily volume at even half of what coins-e does.

As someone else said coins-e had glitches and cryptocoincharts also isn't showing full volume for mcxNOW. I think they may not be polling the exchange quick enough.

And why on Earth does it look like a video game from 1990?

I'm looking into doing themes eventually. I changed it at one point to something less "video game-ish" and got heavily criticized for "burning peoples retinas", so I switched it back. Smiley

If you read the about page you can see that the site is pretty unique when it comes to exchange quality and security. Which is probably the most important thing when it comes to money rather than the looks.

I'm a little concerned at their claim, "We're not greedy" for setting their fees at 0.2% but then gouging a 0.1 BTC monthly subscription for seeing the full order and and for executing trades quickly!

Name another exchange that updates as fast as mcxNOW does in its free mode! Smiley . Maybe if there was any competition for the responsiveness of mcxNOW I could be forced to up the ante, but right now I think it's placed fairly well. The "pro trading" accounts are about 10-20x heavier on the site, letting everyone do it would consume too many resources. I'm looking at alternative ways to get pro accounts rather than paying with BTC though, like getting your friends or other people trade, etc. In regards to being not greedy you will see with the new feature coming further proof on this.

It's obfuscation and I don't like it, not my way of doing business. It feels kind of cheap and tacky, like BTC-E before the icons were banned. Hell, like BTC-e still.

Coins-e just seems underdeveloped in comparison. I have no coins on either exchange.

Good summing up from Molecular (sorry, too hot to find and quote).

My perspective as a long-term bull hasn't changed at all but I agree to that the $50 mark is a the biggest resistance point we should all be looking at. It will take some slow erosion if we ever reach that low again though.

Other cryptos I've dabbled in include LTC and XPM both of which are the only other I consider possibly having a future but these are mere distractions.

Summer's here and we Brits for one have switched off for now, making the most of this rare hot weather we're having!

That's it really. Not much else happening.

Coins-e order volumes were glitched a couple days ago. When I saw that, I XPM withdrew out!

Ah really?
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Primecoin Price? on: July 22, 2013, 10:37:54 AM
My technical analysis says that XPM price will drop 40% or more soon, be careful  Wink

The two problems I have with this are that:

a) TA in a nascent market is a little foolish.

b) It's YOUR TA.

I started using release 12 and I'd found 2 blocks within minutes. 2 more found overnight but not accepted (first time for this) and I woke up to find it had crashed.

Just under 1,000 PPS on 7 of 8 i7-3770K cores.

And it's gone. All gone.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Primecoin Built-in Miner Sieve Performance Issue on: July 11, 2013, 09:41:07 AM
ok, hopefully the karmic universe will throw something back my way for this. Here is the windows qt-client I built with the new code checked in by Sunny King/

Thanks this worked great for me once I hunted down mingwm10.dll. Another 2 blocks found overnight which is more than usual. I usually get 3 together during the daytime only.

Max PPS up to about 316 from about 250 previously.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 10, 2013, 04:04:30 PM
It seems my blocks come in waves (3 in 1 hour) and then silence for 5-6 hours and again a wave of 3. And this keeps repeating for the last 24 hours.
Could this be an issue with the connection to the Primecoin network? Anyone having the same mining experience?

Precisely the same here. My last 6 have been 2 blocks of 3 within 40-odd minutes.

This is great!
54  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTS XPM ( Primecoin ) for BTC 0.01 each on: July 10, 2013, 11:27:41 AM
I am sorry, I usually don't mess with other people's sale threads but WTF? Primecoin? Are we talking about the PPC copy, with Prime number solve as proof and the most stupidly complicated mining mechanism ever invented for no apparent reason?

Either you want to buy or not, it's a genuine offer in the right thread - what's your problem?
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 10, 2013, 09:27:40 AM
Interestingly, these 3 again came in a cluster of 40-odd minutes, like my previous 3.

I'm sure it's a coincidence.

Unless Sunny King has incorporated Bus Theory into the algo somehow? :p
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 10, 2013, 09:13:34 AM
Oh my god, what a dumb dumb I am. Penny has dropped.
Now getting 184pps from a cheap dual-core G2020 ivy bridge, using original unmodified sourcecode. Pps still fluctuates though.

Ahh, can't believe it's take me over 2 days to realise what I had to do to double the pps. Kicking myself.

Now let's see if it works on EC2...

care to share?

Would you?

Probably not. But then again I wouldn't troll that fact unless I desperately craved the approval of my peers...

Found another 3 this morning.

Yes PPS is largely a red herring.
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 09, 2013, 06:50:53 PM
I haven't found one for 24hrs so I'm shutting down too.  I'll wait for the gpu miner I'm sure someone is using to be released..

No problem. All the easier for us remaining miners.

But we'll be back once you've lost the edge, rest assured Smiley

I'm quitting mining until I see others finding blocks again.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: - XPM (PrimeCoin) / LTC Google Docs. Exchange. - on: July 09, 2013, 03:22:14 PM
I'll buy but at realistic prices.

Let's see the first few sales yet.

By the way I see a sale already on the sheet for 80 XPM @ 0.175 LTC?
