does anyone have the original title for this thing? I would like to see it here for posterity.

I still have the original version.
It's "People so sure of themselves they're willing to piss away money on it"

35k now

I would like to state here on behalf of Bitcoin Magazine that Matthew's bet has nothing at all to do with Bitcoin Magazine. This is not something approved by Bitcoin Magazine and images of Bitcoin Magazine placed there are used without consent of Bitcoin Magazine and without consulting with board of directors of Bittalk Media Ltd, ( publisher of Bitcoin Magazine ).

I'm not an expert on this but from my understanding with Matthew's bet is that pirate has to pay full interest due to the hour paid. And it is also my understanding that Pirate wanted the interest to stop at 8:30 am this morning Texas time.

Do you have a link or a quote for this?  It seems I can't log onto #btcst anymore.  If this is true, that the interest has stopped.  Then Matthew loses the bet.  Pirate has yet again broken his payout agreement.  Surprise, surprise.
402  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 29, 2012, 06:49:23 AM
Wait, so the "miners" have traded virgin coins for stolen coins?  If that's true that makes them complicit whether they knew it or not.  They accepted stolen funds.  This pirate is a genius.
403  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: August 29, 2012, 06:18:54 AM
If we lose we lose, if we win we win. Its not Sept 9th yet. A lot can happen.

Also, if the situation were looking to be in Matt's favor, I wouldn't expect any sympathy.

Same.  I was threatened with the scammer tag not once but twice when made my bets.  I knew full well what to expect should I lose and not pay out.

I expect the same should he lose.  It's not my fault he went full retard in the last day and tripled down on Pirate.  We had an agreement and I expect him to stick to it.  I don't care who he is.
404  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: August 29, 2012, 05:38:27 AM
I don't see how Matthew can win this.

I'm beginning to think Matthew can't pay this and knows it so why not just jack the BTC up to whatever?
405  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 29, 2012, 05:27:16 AM
Goat, thanks for the irc dump.  I'm sorry you invested more than you could afford to lose.  Here's my take.

Pirate will pay back the coins I have in BTCMax with interest up to the last hour, as promised.

Bitchlane however, will be the last to see a single Satoshi.

The drama, chaos, and mutual recriminations will continue.  But...

Things will become even more dramatic, more chaotic, and more acrimonious.

God I'm loving the Bitcoin season finale.

This shit is better than Breaking Bad.  And almost as good as Game of Thrones.   Grin

Spoiler: Zhong kills pirate, who is actually Jared.

Delusional to the bitter fucking end. lol.
406  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: August 29, 2012, 05:19:10 AM
I see the number in your google docs spreadsheet keeps going up Matthew. If you're still taking bets, I would like to increase mine to 500BTC.

Accepted.

If you're still accepting bets (which would be insane!), I'll increase mine to 238.8 BTC.

Accepted

So why did you decline mine?

I'd like to up my bet from 500 to 1k Matthew.  I saw betting was closed yesterday and it seems you've allowed new bets since then.  Please let me know.

Thanks.

Well as long as he is still an OP in #bitcoin-otc, I guess that's all that matters.

Time to let the negative feedback begin!

This.

And they've begun.

#28

Are you now going to default, thereby "teaching" us to not trust anyone?

Matthew will be listed as a scammer and basically fucked from doing business with anyone in the bitcoin community should he fail to pay.
410  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: If I win the 10,000BTC, I have an idea for what to do with the money... on: August 29, 2012, 03:11:20 AM
I wouldn't worry about the free magazines.  Just be ready to pay up.  You know it's coming.

412  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: centralized post of pirate payouts-It is over. Pirate@scammer admits default on: August 29, 2012, 02:47:41 AM
I wonder in reality has sunk in for Matt.  He put his rep and $100K on the line for a complete douche ponzi scammer.

But but but...
He didn't say he wouldn't pay. If we just wait, he might be able to pay in a couple weeks, right?
As I recall, the bet was that Pirate would payout as he had promised. A post-default payout is completely different from what he promised and vastly inferior to it. There might be some wiggle room there that will require a close reading of the terms of the bet and the post referenced in it. (For the record, this ambiguity is one of the main reasons I didn't take Matthew's bet. Well, that and the whole thing about not betting money you can't afford to lose.)

We'll have to work this all out once we know exactly what winds up happening.

Last post from Matthew on his bet thread.

Quote
Thank you everyone for showing a huge amount of integrity to bet for your beliefs instead of just arguing, defaming, accusing, aggravating, etc. Many of you truly believe Pirate is a ponzi, many of you are simply utilizing my offer for hedging, and still others are simply happy to take a 50/50 chance bet on anything. Regardless, we are at the 10,000BTC mark and thus I am locking the thread so that no more bets can be received here.

I still believe there is a very high chance that Pirate is just doing a business which we don't understand, and my sinking gut, although questioning his lack of professionalism, lateness, etc, reminds me that no one is perfect and it may all just be a series of bad coincidences. I hope I am right and that I am able to prove to the community once and for all that what we don't understand is not always a scam. If I happen to be wrong, I'm happy to have enjoyed this entertaining time with everyone, and I've actually made quite a lot of new friends (as you can imagine).

The original OP states that the bet ends 3 weeks after August 19, 2012, 04:49:20 PM, so that means it ends on September 9th, 2012, 04:49:20 PM KST (Korean Standard Time, local to me). I think I had mentioned a slightly longer deadline elsewhere on IRC out of confusion (September 12th perhaps?), but this is incorrect as you can clearly see. The bet will also end if Pirate has provided proof of paying back all (not 99.9%) of his obligated debts and interests per agreements, whichever comes first.

Good luck to everyone and thank you for participating in this monumental lesson for all of us.

Bold is mine.  There is no wiggle room.  Either Pirate pays back 100% with interest by the Sept. 9th or he loses.  Simple as that.

Pirate has defaulted twice.  This isn't looking good for Matt.

Huge update, more stalling:

[22:45] <gribble> pirateat40 was last seen in #btcst 5 hours, 14 minutes, and 26 seconds ago: <pirateat40> EskimoBob, no one wants it over faster.

the suspense is killing me.

It's getting better:

<pirateat40> Notice:  If you are a PPT operator please contact me via PM.  Thanks

And when was this supposedly posted?  I don't see it on #btcst anywhere.

Check the topic out Wink

I have.  I don't see news of anything.  I don't have time to sit around IRC all day.  If you know something.  Spill it.
If you don't run a PPT, it doesn't matter.
If you do, it was mentioned by pirate 2 hours ago, which means it's recent.

Disagree.  If you own PPT bonds it does matter.

Whether it was an hour, two hours or five hours if they know something they better let people know.  So people don't sell their bonds below what they maybe getting back.  If anything.  Otherwise for all we know PPT operators could be buying up the bonds knowing they are getting paid.  Seems pretty shady PPT operators are on IRC and they still claim to know nothing.

Thanks.  I still don't see how "it's getting better".  What he has to say to them could be a million different things.  I'm guessing he'll/they'll settle minus interest and maybe a cut in overall BTC owed.  Otherwise he could just pay them.  He doesn't need to message them to do that.

Edit:
BTW, if a PPT operator now knows they are getting paid and are allowing people to sell the debt at cut-rate prices without informing them.  I would consider that fraud.  If you know something, you better come out with it.

418  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Pirate accomplices on: August 28, 2012, 06:16:32 AM
Didn't pirate say he's made 30k BTC or $300.000 USD in profits from his scam? I'm sure the IRS would love to know about this.

If it were a scam, he'd have made $5 milllion off of it, and seems the FBI would be more interested than the IRS.

It is a scam.  Get ready to pay out.
419  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Pirate accomplices on: August 28, 2012, 06:12:39 AM
...mmm...Brunic, do you actually know what pirate was doing to legitimately earn 7%/week, or do you just have a theory?

It's the "unofficial" theory I could say. I can't say I know, since I'm only a small part of his business, I can only suppose.

But this theory is a great business model IMHO. If I had the resources and the customers, don't worry, I would not be losing my time on this forum trying to explain it.

So just a theory, then.  Thanks for responding.   Smiley

Definitely not trolling - although I do admit I often come off as a troll.  I guess I should work on that.   Grin

The theory involving pirates business model depends on there being enough people who wish to bypass rules and regulations on moving cash around. I dont consider wanting financial privacy as money laundering even though the government might. I would say that if hes involved in doing that theres is probably only so long you can before it gets noticed.

Fuck the IRS.

Enemies can be friends in times like this.
