I still think anyone thinking a bull run happening one year after ATH must be ignoring 2 things big time. First, which is the most important, that we are in the middle of a great economic recession, probably the worst one most people have ever seen, for me, the worst for certain. Prices of everything is going up, except investment and assets which is going down. Secondly, that never in Bitcoin's history will a bull run happen so fast after ATH.

I understand that people would like to have another ATH, but I just wonder - why? Why do we want to have crazy unstable currency? Maybe it would be better for everyone if it stay at a given level, let it be 20k, 30k or even 10k, but let it be stable, like +- we have stable FIAT pairs. We talk about 50%-100% change, maybe we should be happy that the change is only 5% for a long time and BTC will be used for something different than just trading?

I'm locking FUN for 2 more years minimum... bullrun in 2024 lol

My shorter lock expires in November and I will lock tokens again, for a short period, 1-3 months. My longer (1 year old) lock will expire in March, then I will see - maybe I will sell all or half, but the most probably I will not lock again for longer than 6 months.
403  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets on: October 27, 2022, 08:36:35 AM
The reason for this is the introduction of Dollar-cost averaging (DCA) in Trezor Suite. Their term for it is Bitcoin savings account. Most already know that using the DCA investment strategy means buying a fixed USD/EUR amount of an asset at a fixed time. That can be once a week/month/year, etc.

There is nothing wrong with cooperation with btcdirect, but as I understand it only brings "buy" option inside the application. I would prefer to see a better conditions for Trezor users (spread). Otherwise why not to buy from them directly?
And again, if someone is afraid of leaks, the task to check the code how they send buy request, if they collect data how much you bought, when. Does btcdirect knows you are Trezor user? etc etc
404  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: October 27, 2022, 06:48:40 AM
two seasons in a row failed to qualify for the round of 16 I think is bad enough for a team like Barcelona and a 3 goal loss without reply at home is quite a shame.
at the beginning of the season many had high expectations of barcelona because Xavi brought in a lot of new players but it all did not live up to expectations.

Exactly, that's the main problem in my opinion. If you change nothing and you end in the same place - I understand.
If you spend millions, you need extra cash, loans, you do lot of changes and still you finish in the same place - something did not went well. We cannot always say "others have more cash, others have more expensive players etc".
The question is what is (was) bigger today - Barcelona or expectations. Maybe expectations are based on past team and now it is a very average team (but still one of the strongest for the league).
405  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: October 27, 2022, 06:41:24 AM
The impressive performances shown in La Liga cannot be continued in the UCL, Barcelona are still having difficulties facing Bayern Munich and Inter. Barcelona must learn from this failure, Xavi must not make the same mistake in the Europa League.

Big disappointment for Barcelona and probably Lewandowski's haters (I am sure there are some) would be glad. Not only he failed to help Barcelona fight in UCL, but now Bayern may say "we are fine without him".
150mln, transfers, coach change... Very big PR failure for Barcelona. And they need 650mln for salaries!

BTC price touched 21k today, 5 days left. I did not place my bet this month as I expected we will leave the channel sooner or later, but I decided to bet the on FUN and I wonder if we will stay in the most popular range. We will see.
BTW fact we are above 20k is always a good news!
407  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: October 26, 2022, 03:37:33 PM
So while I am hoping the same for Checo, I don't think he has notable chance to win.

I also do not think Max will stop pushing. Or maybe we will see 'team orders'... But I do not think there will be any situation like that just to please the stands.
And one of last chances for Russel to show he is faster than Hamilton this year. Maybe his salary will be adjusted Wink

And another interesting info:
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.breaking-sauber-to-become-audi-works-f1-team-from-2026.6EMJQ2LlvshgpCXdCR9xJl.html

Sauber to become Audi works F1 team from 2026

The German manufacturer announced in August that they will join F1 as a power unit supplier, when new regulations that feature increased electrical power and 100% sustainable fuels will be introduced in four years.

Looks like new era attracts new competitors. I wonder what will be the answer from old companies like Williams or McLaren.
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: May we have 2 independent networks? on: October 25, 2022, 12:25:41 PM
From the point of single node it would only mean that you lost some connections but you are able to quickly find replacements. At the end now, when you have your node and you are connected to 10 other nodes, you do not know if you are connected to Asia and Australia or to your neighbors on the next street
Each country have different IP address allocation, so you could make educated guess based on other node IP.

ip to location may be helpful indeed, for not-tor connections. It would be interesting to have something like a quota for different continents/countries.

there is no criteria for nodes selection, is there?
It depends on which full node implementation you use. IIRC Bitcoin Core avoid make connection to multiple nodes with same IP block.

Interesting, I did not know that. There may be speed test, but it would favor close nodes, so it is not the best solution.

So, as I understand if let's say one country with power big enough to mine blocks is disconnected, they build their own chain, but their work will be lost after reconnection.

I just won 0.01 BTC Jackpot on Freebitco.in!!!
congrats to you, no one is lucky to get the number 8888 in every spin, I usually do a dice roll there never activate it to get the jackpot because it will drain my funds quickly, especially to get 0.01 BTC requires 125 satoshi for each dice roll, but whatever it is good job mate, withdraw your money soon

Do you have any statistic how many rolls did you play until you hit 8888? Or since you hit it the previous time? I guess that as we are not in Discworld, where a million-to-one chance succeeds nine times out of ten(*), it took much time.

* (it would not work anyway, because we have 100k possibilities; it must be exactly million to one)
411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / May we have 2 independent networks? on: October 25, 2022, 10:22:36 AM
Recently I have found an information about problems with fiber cable which was damaged (probably intentionally) and causes some networking issues:
https://trust.zscaler.com/zscloud.net/posts/12256

It made me think - is it possible that bitcoin nodes network would be split? I know that many connects to many etc, but what if "2 bubbles", similar size, enough to be fully functional, would be created? Imagine that for example South&North Americas lost connection to rest of network (no oceanic cables, no satelites etc etc).
Is it possible to detect that you are in a separated bubble? I assume we would have 2 chains, which would make it impossible to merge.
From the point of single node it would only mean that you lost some connections but you are able to quickly find replacements. At the end now, when you have your node and you are connected to 10 other nodes, you do not know if you are connected to Asia and Australia or to your neighbors on the next street - there is no criteria for nodes selection, is there?

And that about sums it up. Looking at my (balance + withdrawals) - (deposits) I am in profit of 5.64845487 bitcoin after the lambo competition.

Oh wow! It means that before LamboResults you were like -5BTC ($100k)! How did you feel with that? Was it OK for you (easy come, easy go) or did it worry you? How often did you make deposits to cover your gambling?

There are people out there who can gamble responsibly. I am not one of them.

Respect for that, dude. Stay clean!
413  Economy / Services / [SERVICE] WIF, seed, brainwallet recovery services on: October 25, 2022, 09:41:29 AM
I offer my service and help in WIF & seed recovery. Depending on the case, I offer support and explanation of potential solution (and chances) to recovery partially lost WIF using one of my programs:
- WifSolver - for CPU, for simple cases when only a few characters are missing or if they are missing in several places in WIF
- WifSolverCuda - for GPU, for cases when there is a large gap at the beginning or in the middle of WIF, when public key is unknown
- Kangaroo - for CPU/GPU, my version is a JLP's program patched to support solving WIFs when public key is known

As any clues could be helpful, I also work with partially lost QR codes from paper wallets.

Additionally, for recovering missing words from a seed I offer using:
- LostWord - for CPU, for cases when there are some clues what the possible words are and/or only 2-3 words are completely missing
- LostWordCuda - (in development phase) for recovering seed using GPU

I also offer recovering access to brainwallets knowing a partial hints.

Of course, if it is suitable, other public tools could be used (BitCrack, btcrecover etc.).
If it is needed, I offer writing a program dedicated to a given problem.
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to find the first 35 digits of bitcoin private key on: October 25, 2022, 07:34:18 AM
As I understand, OP has no information about private key. He has nothing. Null, zero. And then he believes in his brute-force possibilities (limited to +- 1/3 of amount of data needed) and he looks for a way to find the rest (2/3). Which is obviously impossible, as we cannot guess even bit range base on public key.
Otherwise there will be no problem with "32BTC puzzle" etc.
So, answering OP: as I may agree that if you have 17 characters (at the end) missing it is possible to find the private key knowing pub key (using Kangaroo or BSGS software for that purpose), simple answer is NO - you cannot guess (or how you called it 'calculate') what is the range/beginning of a private key knowing only address or even public key.
415  Other / Off-topic / Hackers exploit critical VMware flaw to drop ransomware & miners on: October 24, 2022, 09:16:21 AM
Anyone using VMware Workspace ONE Access? Check if you use a patched version (CVE-2022-22954). Otherwise, maybe you mine Monero for someone.

Researchers at cybersecurity company Fortinet noticed in the newest campaigns that the threat actors deployed the Mira botnet for distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, the GuardMiner cryptocurrency miner, and the RAR1Ransom tool.
One interesting case is a pair of Bash and PowerShell scripts targeting Linux and Windows systems. The scripts fetch a list of files to launch on the compromised machine.
The PowerShell script ("init.ps1") downloads the following files from a Cloudflare IPFS gateway:
phpupdate.exe: Xmrig Monero mining software
config.json: Configuration file for mining pools
networkmanager.exe: Executable used to scan and spread infection
phpguard.exe: Executable used for guardian Xmrig miner to keep running
clean.bat: Script file to remove other cryptominers on the compromised host

416  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Almost 1/4 of Belgian employees are willing to receive crypto-salary on: October 24, 2022, 07:28:03 AM
I'm not super knowledgeable when it comes to statistics, but a sample size of 1000 is pretty small for the data to be close to being accurate. I'd say it's enough data for it to be interesting, but not something to take seriously.

Yrs, we may always have doubts like that, as we do not know how the group was selected. But: AFAIK Partene is kind of "insurance" company, so they know very well if you are employee or self-employed, in which age group you are etc, so I believe they could prepare a sample group very well.
417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Almost 1/4 of Belgian employees are willing to receive crypto-salary on: October 23, 2022, 03:57:55 PM
It seems like the article didn't mention the sample size of the survey (I'm just using Google translate) so I'm skeptical. I don't know — but in the current market situation(mostly bearish), 22% seems quite higher than what I'd expect.

I have found in the other source that it was around 1k people, possibly error 3,02%.
There is an article on Partena page (some more details included): https://www.partena-professional.be/nl/nieuws/22-van-de-werknemers-staat-open-voor-een-gedeeltelijke-verloning-cryptogeld
418  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Almost 1/4 of Belgian employees are willing to receive crypto-salary on: October 23, 2022, 03:42:04 PM
A recent study by iVox commissioned by Partena Professional shows that 22% of the employees surveyed are open to the idea of receiving part of their wages in cryptocurrency. Within that group, especially men (30% of the total number of men surveyed) are willing to be paid partly in cryptocurrency. In the category of employees under the age of 35, 35.9% are in favor of this idea. This age group is most positive about a salary in cryptocurrency.

Currently it is not allowed, as cryptocurrency is not recognized as a legal tender. The same rules is for base salary and for bonuses - even with agreement between employer and the employee.

I have already realized that choice of events for betting is sometimes strange, but until now I was sure F1 will have it's place on Betting page. Today we have F1 USA GP and I have a feeling I haven't seen that on freebitco. I was a quite busy and not focused on betting, but today checked again - no F1 USA on pending/expired page.
Honestly speaking sometimes 'betting page' reminds me about some events Wink This time I completely forgot about USA GP.

Anyway - is there a chance the rest of races will be available on freebitco?
