401  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hey new miner here, looking for some feedback...thanks in advance on: March 08, 2011, 06:43:29 PM
The whole point of bitcoins is to get money. it is not PROFITABLE, but the opposite, to mine with his CPU...
sorry, but that's untrue,
the whole point of Bitcoin is to be able to transfer money, not to get it.
and i never said that mining on CPUs is profitable, actually this
Quote
as xenon481 said, i wouldn't bother with CPU mining at all,
if you do it anyway and are ok with cost of electricity, go for it,..
is what i said, you might have missed that.

BOINC is using resources for a good cause
you say mining is NOT using ressources for a good cause?
care to explain?
what better cause could there be than to protect your money?

402  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hey new miner here, looking for some feedback...thanks in advance on: March 08, 2011, 05:27:41 PM
Don't mine with CPU unless electricity is free...
that's like saying "don't run BOINC unless electricity is free",
why not let people decide what they want todo?
403  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hey new miner here, looking for some feedback...thanks in advance on: March 08, 2011, 05:26:36 PM

I can only get bitcoin to use 1 cpu, how do I get it to 0?
get it to 0 by not starting it.  Cheesy

to use more than 1core, set the number of threads to use,
-t 2 would run 2 threads, or use 2cores/50% of your quadcore
404  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hey new miner here, looking for some feedback...thanks in advance on: March 08, 2011, 05:17:36 PM

Will this miner work with Crossfire?
no, but with multiple GPUs
Quote
I can add another 4850 for around $60, is it worth it, and will my speed double?
yes, just don't activate crossfire,
you might get a 5570 for about the same price though and with a bit of OC get the same speed at 1/2 the power-consumption of a 4850.

Quote
Should I set my cpu back to stock speeds?
as xenon481 said, i wouldn't bother with CPU mining at all,
if you do it anyway and are ok with cost of electricity, go for it, no need to go back to stock-speed, as long as your system remains stable.

Are my temps too high?
no

405  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCMine - new shared minig pool on: March 07, 2011, 08:02:17 PM
There also 50 share bonus for lucky miner why solved block.
i don't get that,
50 what? if it's bitcoins, where do those come from?
it might be % though, but % of what, of your 3-10% cut?

Quote
During this period, pool commission reduced to 1%.
it seems, that at least for pay-per-share you pay out 49BTC/difficulty, which is not 1, but 2%.
just sayin'  Cheesy

oh and i also don't get, why in pay-per-share mode, my "Bounty" is still an "Estimated bounty",
the point of pay-per-share is, that i already earned it, as soon as i submitted a share, isn't it?
406  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUI frontend for poclbm released - looking for testers on: March 07, 2011, 06:29:32 PM
yes, it does,
i guess you haven't plugged a monitor into your 2nd card, you'll need todo that on windows to activate the card in CCC.
give it a try.
407  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution, ~50 Gh/s on: March 07, 2011, 03:06:53 AM
It is (in theory) possible to take an average hashrate (and from extension, average amount of shares of some time) and figure out how much you can expect to make in the long run using the different payouts.
well, in the long run you'll get <7% more from proportional, that's what you can expect.
no need to take your hashrate or any imaginary numbers into account.
408  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution, ~50 Gh/s on: March 07, 2011, 02:42:55 AM
Looks like people are still confused with two existing reward distributhing modes, so now i'm working on third one.
Hope you'll like it.

I kind of wish it would automatically select the option with the greatest payout based on your hash speed, although I suppose that would be less than ideal for the pool.

My guess is that while if you are on the extremes of the speed it is easy enough to figure that out, but for those around the middle, it can be difficult to say which is better.
there is no way, no matter what hashrate you have, to automagically switch to option with the greatest payout,
except maybe if you own a time-machine, but i guess then you would have better stuff todo with it anyway.

If dishwara's information is correct, then he runs those two skeezy "cash for completing offers" sites, plus one more not listed, and maybe more beyond that.

This is the info from the domain registrations:

Excellent, excellent. Thank you.

Small claims court, here we come.

i wouldn't be to sure that you're chasing the right guy, he seems to use different identities for several domains.

410  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Instant-Payout Mining - BitPenny.com on: March 04, 2011, 10:15:50 AM
while testing the old bitpenny server, my payout was about 87.5%, taking into account that max 90% are paid out and expecting 2-3% loss caused by connectivity/overhead, this seemed not too bad.

running on the new server for ~2days now my payouts are impressive,
89-90%, means there's almost zero network-loss.

good job OneFixt!

it seems that (for me) this pool pays 8-10% less than slush's pool
obviously, but you can't really compare bitpenny with slush's pool anyway,
you could compare it to the pay-per-share mode on deepbit.
411  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution, ~30 Gh/s on: March 04, 2011, 09:53:15 AM
i kindly disagree with you on the point that if it takes 3 years to generate a block at the same exchange rate
i never said that
412  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution, ~30 Gh/s on: March 04, 2011, 09:03:09 AM
i'd like to see, what those calculations are based on
Try it yourself first, then tell me if what i'm saying is incorrect.
what you're saying is probably incorrect

oh, so it will be worth mining for a few bitcents/block, but not worth it for 50bitcoins/block?   Huh
Think about it; in the future when you start to get a block every 3 months, what will motivate you to continue mining?
most current miners are motivated by profit,
as long as there is profit in mining, it doesn't matter, if you need 3 hours, 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years to generate a block.

Don't earnings become 2/3 every 10 days or so?
Why not?
Why?
if you say earning == BTC per day, then you're right as far as it gets less every 2016 blocks,
but 1 BTC might have more value in 3 months than today,
you seem to know the future price already, i don't.
413  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution, ~30 Gh/s on: March 03, 2011, 09:58:48 PM
You make it sound like I'm spoiling the party or something
wasn't my intention
Quote
when I'm only questioning the security of the network that could be threaten by pools. Relying on "the right people" to harness all that cpu power is a bit of a hole in security, don't you think?
it's up to us, "the people", to care about security, the pool-operator doesn't own that much power, it's us.
it's not that the pool-operator can force us to use his pool, or something,
if WE don't like that much power in one hand, WE have to split that power into many hands and we can do that by the click of a button.

Based on my calculations, it won't be worth it to mine in a pool in 3 months
i'd like to see, what those calculations are based on
Quote
After that, i'm thinking of solo mining for the fees involved in transactions; read they go to whoever generates the block.
oh, so it will be worth mining for a few bitcents/block, but not worth it for 50bitcoins/block?   Huh

no
414  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution, ~30 Gh/s on: March 03, 2011, 08:17:25 PM
Isn't this a serious issue?
if you don't trust a pool-operator, don't use the pool.
it just takes a few seconds to switch to another pool, or solo-mining.
415  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution, ~30 Gh/s on: March 03, 2011, 08:11:44 PM
Could pools get so big that the difficulty gets so high ...
difficulty gets higher with more network-hashing-power, doesn't matter if that power is pooled or not.
Quote
...wont be worth mining...
not a matter of difficulty, or hashpower at all.

Quote
Could pools get so big that one pool could have enough hashing speed to actually compromise the network?
in theory, yes.
416  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Instant-Payout Mining - BitPenny.com on: March 02, 2011, 08:57:00 PM
indeed, maybe he doesn't know that payout decreases with raising difficulty
and didn't notice that there's 2 servers and also 2 balances.

my leftover sub-bitcent balance on the old server is still there (although i can't withdraw it because its <0.01btc)
and the new server so far works better than the old one.
417  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUI frontend for poclbm released - looking for testers on: March 02, 2011, 08:02:06 PM
Interesting.  Why would you submit easy hashes
as a proof-of-work that your miners did

Quote
And what does the "1" in "Difficulty 1" mean?
it means that it's (currently)    55590times easier to find a winning hash on pools than on the main-bitcoin-network,
because the difficulty to find one on the main-bitcoin-network is 55590
418  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUI frontend for poclbm released - looking for testers on: March 02, 2011, 07:49:29 PM
so saying
Quote
In 2 months not a single 5970 is enough to mine, u need atleast 2-3X 5970 to mine.
wasn't a mistake?  Cheesy
419  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUI frontend for poclbm released - looking for testers on: March 02, 2011, 07:38:47 PM
no,
on pools you work on easy hashes,
means say the current requirement is for 14 leading zeros in the hash to solve a block, you are trying to find hashes with say at least 3 leading zeros.
you'll find and submit hashes with 3,4,5,6,7,8,9..... leading zeros (which all get you a share in the pool) and every once in a while someone finds a hash with the required 14 leading zeros and bang, pool gets the block, everyones happy.
420  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5870 just delivered, any tips? on: March 02, 2011, 12:20:12 AM
I'm ranging between 285-295 Mhash/s.
you should downgrade to SDK 2.2*, to get 300-340Mhps like Beremat,
even my 5850 gets 310+Mhps (910MHz clock), SDK 2.3 slowed it down a bunch.

*if running DiabloMiner 2.1 is even better/faster, i couldn't get poclbm to run on 2.1 though.
