401  Economy / Speculation / Re: ~1,314,000 new coins will be created over the next 365 days on: June 13, 2015, 11:36:08 AM
it seems like the OP doesn't understand the situation, but none of the posters understood the OP.

He's simply trying to say that the price will increase after the halving or maybe the next halving. When inflation of coins will be very little, perhaps even negative inflation because of lost coins.
perhaps i misunderstood but it seems to me the OP was saying that the price may rise but it will inevitably always fall.
He's saying the inflation of coins is too large currently to sustain large price growth. But when the inflation becomes small, then price growth will be sustainable.

This is further evidenced by his signature.

That said, more important than the amount of inflation is the amount of adoption. If enough people adopt, potentially tens or hundreds of billions can be poured in, a mere 300 million is just a drop in the bucket.

better than losing money. Seriously, vgo isn't even saying anything negative about monero. What's wrong with you people?
404  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: June 13, 2015, 04:47:34 AM

if you invest lets say 5 btc on altcoins even 10 btc on them you may easy multiply them.... soo the question is till where you can invest in a coin and get the profit from it ..... btc wont raise or fall from day to night..... others altcoins will and still making that borning and die in less a week .

I remember dodge were at 36 satoshis some days ago if i had some btc on that time i would buy the most i could.... why .... check current worth of them, this is just an example..68 satoshis... this is almost 200% at the current worth....

soo there is several coins that lost interest but can easy recover and make yours btc just double or triple but always a risk ...

I've dabbled in alts. I eventually came out on top but it's an insane risk and there's no rhyme or reason as to what direction they might head. At least Bitcoin has some fundamentals. No alt has anything other than the whims of the traders throwing it around.

5-10 BTC is a ludicrous amount to put on the line. I never put in more than 0.1 and I occasionally regretted that too.
gentlemand is one of the most logical, realistic guys in the entire forum, and understands the risks as well as potential upsides of all of this. In other words, he's one of the few people in the entire forum with common sense. Listen to what he says, it's good for you.
405  Economy / Speculation / Re: [prediction] Next spike $560,000 14 months from now on: June 12, 2015, 08:11:04 PM
if you guys actually read... the OP isn't about $560,000 the number, it's about the sine function (or whatever function he used), and how it is possible for bitcoin price to increase unexpectedly fast.

The numbers are very vague estimates, more used to show the point than anything else.
406  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: June 12, 2015, 04:31:21 AM
the problem with whales jumping in theory is that it doesn't work.

Let's say bill gates really believes in bitcoin, and he wants to make more money. So he buys out 1 billion dollars worth of bitcoin. Sounds nice, but he won't do that.

There are a lot of problems with owning such a large proportion of a cryptocurrency. So if they wanted, they'd buy maybe 100k or 200k coins and that's about it.

You'd need either quite a few rich people joining in, or mass adoption, IMO.
407  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: June 11, 2015, 06:23:36 PM
That said, getting 10 million new users will be quite tough.

There are 12 million millionaires in the world. The coffee drinkers are a drop in the ocean.
there are a lot more than 12 million millionaires.
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 11, 2015, 03:43:26 PM
Hello newly registered fake account,

I am willing to proof it with a monetary bet of 50 BTC or the equal amount in XMR;

Whichever escrow is used is up to you as long as he´s neutral and has a good reputation.
How do you do that? You can, for example, give risto 25 BTC and tell him to say he did it.

How can you prove it?
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On a scale of 1 to 10, How Excited (!!!) Are You About BTC and the... on: June 10, 2015, 11:25:14 PM
10, because it could potentially give me financial freedom.

0 in terms of wanting to use bitcoin myself; I see its usefulness but I don't personally need it. I don't do remittances or make contracts or foreign exchange all that much.
410  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: June 08, 2015, 11:53:20 PM
Get 20 BTC Wait till it goes up in the market and you'll be able to retire no problem Wink

If you have 20 of it then it will be better if you convert it to FIAT instead because there is a chance that BTC could be worthless while you already retire

then wait for 10k price and you will be able to retire securely

This is a bit delusional and quite unrealistic, you are probably be dead by the time BTC ever reach that value. Basically that value could be well reach only if the entire supply are mine plus a worldwide adoption and that would take about 100+ years from now just to mine the entire supply or that BTC could be worthless by the time you are still waiting for this $10k

that lack of logic there... and you're calling other people delusional....
411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we being Shamwowed? on: June 08, 2015, 07:06:55 PM
I was buying the story until this ...

Quote
I thought my life at home was simple, but watching these short-statured miners sleep in the same tiny bed, and drink from the same tiny cup, made me appreciate the joy of true simplicity. At times it was approaching 60 degrees Celsius in our sleeping quarters, but these tiny men took the heat in stride, smiling and joking that if the heat didn't kill them, it would only make them stronger miners.

Didn't read it yet but I will take a look, 60 degrees Celsius is hot enough to cause hyperthermia from what I know.   Wink
Well it's consistently 50+ degrees in many indian restuarants (in india)
412  Economy / Economics / Re: Millennials trust Bitcoin more than Fiat! on: June 08, 2015, 07:05:23 PM
No they don't. The vast majority don't, anyway.
413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Satoshi was revealed to be Charles Manson on: June 08, 2015, 05:26:48 PM
Would I be pissed off... Yes. Would I stop using it?... No.

There are many people or groups of people, who did things, which we did not agree with and they still caused a ripple in the pond.

You took Hitler as a example. {I am not saying what he did was right in any way} In the 2cnd world war, Coca cola could not be distributed to many countries, who were at war, so they created their own popular
alternative fizzy drink.... It is now known as "Fanta" or Orange flavored soda. {This is a bad example, but it's something, that has come from something evil}

It is also rumoured that many groundbreaking medical procedures and medicine, has been developed through experiments that has been done on people in concentration camps. {This is in NO way justified, but we still knowingly or unknowingly use these medicine and procedures}

Yeah, that's a pretty bad example but if you want a WWII example I'll hook you up. Josef Mengele, also known as the Angel of Death, performed a multitude of savage experiments on men, women and lots of children. There is no way any civilized society would have allowed his brand of savagery; however, his experiments quite possibly advanced modern medicine by 50 years. Following is a list of the things he experimented on.

Experiments on twins
Bone, muscle, and nerve transplantation experiments
Head injury experiments
Freezing experiments
Malaria experiments
Immunization experiments
Mustard gas experiments
Sulfonamide experiments
Sea water experiments
Sterilization experiments
Experiments with poison
Incendiary bomb experiments
High altitude experiments
go read about what the japanese done to the chinese and these don't seem that bad. Yet they got away with it completely by giving the data to the US. With all the chinese victims, I don't think China got any of the experiment data.

414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Satoshi was revealed to be Charles Manson on: June 07, 2015, 05:16:42 PM
Man, the lack of common sense in this thread... Makes me more pessimistic everyday.

The POINT of the OP is to say if bitcoin was created by an evil entity... it isn't about whether the people in his examples are alive or not. Seriously, what's wrong with you people.

And the answer is, no, it wouldn't matter. The product is completely open source, anyone with enough knowledge can scrutinize it and see if there's anything hidden. Since there isn't, bitcoin itself isn't evil. It doesn't matter who created it, what's important is whether bitcoin itself is intrinsically "evil", and it isn't.

It's like for example, so many bitcoin supporters are idiots. But that doesn't make bitcoin stupid or only for stupid people.

415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why don't we create a new crypto and call it bitcoin? on: June 06, 2015, 06:42:34 PM
It's absolutely impossible to get everyone to agree on something. If you had that kind of power, it'd be more useful to find a cure for death or something.

418  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin points of massive price movement on: June 03, 2015, 07:23:52 PM
even if the price goes to $10k, there will be people calling it a pump and dump.

The price needs to be stable for many years, with people using it for things other than speculation in order for people to stop saying it will die, its a ponzi, etc.

419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FORK POLL - A transactions per second comparison of the top 10 cryptocurrencies on: June 02, 2015, 11:57:39 AM
lol OP if you wanna pump your coin, you should be less obvious.

I don't know why anyone in the world would want any of the bitshare coins.
420  Economy / Speculation / Re: In 2012, bitcoin remained at roughly $5 for four months on: June 01, 2015, 09:53:45 AM
This period of remarkable stability was known as "$5 forever"

(mathematically)unstable currency ->(tends to) stable currency

(physically) the entropy of all systems tends to disorder
