401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When/if will BlackCoin crash? on: April 14, 2014, 10:17:26 PM
Well, never mind about three days. Well, that's the nature of the beast. It's always some sort of speculation.

Who knows though, maybe this is just an extended "hiccup." But dang, 8,000 BTC worth of volume is a heck of a lot...
402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When/if will BlackCoin crash? on: April 14, 2014, 08:41:21 PM
I'm gonna say this traction will last for a few more days. Once it hits about .0016 then there'll probably be major market movement.
403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Damn you Amazon, you'll come round soon enough on: April 14, 2014, 08:31:13 PM
I always find is weird that companies who want to be "trending" refuse to be part of the latest trends.

Do they want to be 'trending'? Seems to me like Amazon is about as Conservative as can be in their core business (undercut everyone else) and just 'trendy' in their way of doing it. Sure it seems like Bitcoin would be a part of that, but maybe undercutting Bitcoin/Visa/Mastercard/etc is just another long term plan.

I agree, it’s much more likely for a lot of other websites to accept BTC before Amazon does. They really do have a more conservative corporate model. They wouldn't be willing to take a “risk” on something they aren't confident will give them a strong ROI.
404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy now offering shares in mining contracts. MN1. Question on: April 14, 2014, 07:09:24 PM
....Anyone have any thoughts on why these contracts are being sold for so much over what they were sold for?

People see an initial up move and jump in like lemmings.
More accurate pricing will be seen in a week or two.

Fair enough, it's what I figured too. It is surprising though. Even at the beginning, each share of .0185 BTC pegged to 1Gh/s was only slated to make a BTC ROI if difficulty increases hovered at 2.5%-3% for the next 12 months.

Once it hit around .021 BTC each, difficulty actually needed to start decreasing around 1% per retarget for the next 12 months in order to make ROI.

At 0.025 BTC, I have no clue what the thought process is behind buying. This is why it's very curious.
405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy now offering shares in mining contracts. MN1. Question on: April 14, 2014, 06:14:35 PM
So apparently these shares are selling for over 0.0275 BTC each (nearly 50% up from what you could buy them for originally). Fortunately, I had a bunch that I had a sell order at around 0.025 (and I didn't think that they would actually sell). Anyone have any thoughts on why these contracts are being sold for so much over what they were sold for?

I don't particularly care to get the ones I sold back (I still have a few left over that I'm keeping, and with the price differential that I sold mine for, it's like I got those for free). I'm more curious than anything.
406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Freicoin, demurrage and spending vs hoarding on: April 14, 2014, 02:24:37 AM
Interesting point regarding the precious metals but you're right, the amount of metal in the safe doesn't decrease.  It's also an interesting example given the recent IRS guidance on Bitcoin being "property" rather than a currency.

It's unfortunate that so many people are using cryptocurrencies as a vehicle to make a lot of fiat gain rather than to use the cryptocurrency as a currency.  We're not going to change the system if Bitcoin, Litecoin, Freicoin, etc..  are thought of as just another way to get rich and/or hoard and save.
It is unfortunate because a lot of the stronger coins have greatly benefited the "first movers." But hoarding (i.e. saving) is not necessarily a bad thing, especially for a long-term "deflationary" system like Bitcoin. However, the vast disparity is another issue entirely.

I think we're going to continue to see crypto-currencies used as an investment/speculation vehicle (rather than as a currency with an in-built ledger/accounting system) because of the IRS ruling in the U.S. What needs to happen to provide stronger affect in changing that is to have an economically strong country legislate that crypto-currencies truly "currencies" rather than just vehicles. That would have a great impact in making crypto-currencies more of a "mainstream" thing.

Once that happens, there can be enough velocity of money to change to try other experiments on a more appreciable scale (such as Freicoin). But that opens a whole new can of worms (at least in terms of finance and law).
407  Economy / Speculation / Re: Survey time! Was 340 the final bottom? on: April 14, 2014, 02:15:04 AM
We will be below 400 soon I think

here we go Wink knocking at 400
I think we're going to be kissing that "floor" for a while. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if there is another piece of news that causes the price to flash to around 300 at some point. But I think within a month we'll be steadily climbing again with a stable rising floor.
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Virtual Coin|VC|X11 Hybrid|VGW|ASIC Resistant|NO PREMINE| LAUNCH: APRIL 12 on: April 12, 2014, 05:51:52 PM
yep dev should update original post and delete exchange, so confusing and feels amateurish...especially after releasing the coin three times, now it's time to settle and make things clear...
Precisely, the OP needs to clarify things in the first post and also make arrangements to fix things at agx.io. After all, VC got promotion from agx.io and also used one of the campaigns that the website was running. If this really is serious, that should be addressed.
409  Economy / Speculation / Re: Survey time! Was 340 the final bottom? on: April 12, 2014, 05:01:19 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if we dip once more to the ~300 range. I still don't think the ride is over in the short-term yet. Heck, I look at an exponential price chart and even 250 looks reasonable.

The talesfromthescrypt pool says my worker isn't mining but my rig is connected and running with no problems. I can only see 3 users getting shares, is something wrong with the pool?

pool is on wrong fork or something bad

allso someone is allready dumping 12k .. at 0.00000100 sat unreal nice ninja dont waste your power / money on this shit . same last night with gb coin seems like launches are Ninja only by devs these days.
people getting a lot of blocks before anyone could even access the wallet no communication on forum.

https://agx.io/markets/312/trade

I don't know what they are trading on agx.io but it isn't the coin that was released today. 12k coins doesn't even exist yet.
What is being traded on agx.io is the coin that the OP (and his related sock accounts) released last month with the same name.
411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy now offering shares in mining contracts. MN1. Question on: April 12, 2014, 03:12:21 PM
I do have to agree that it wasn't the "fairest" move to allow another 10,000 shares to be sold. You gotta remember though, these shares somewhat function as a type of "Bond." The only difference is there is no guarantee of return and it is highly risky.

Once again, if these shares are pegged to 1 Gh/s for their lifetime, then it'll be hard to make ROI at the current rate that the difficulty is increasing.

That said, you never know what the long-term plans for these shares are.
412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Virtual Coin|VC|X11 Hybrid|VGW|ASIC Resistant|NO PREMINE| LAUNCH: APRIL 12 on: April 12, 2014, 03:04:30 PM
Wait, you guys are getting 5 coins per block? Weird. This happened last time I mined the scrypt VirtualCoin. I have stopped mining hours ago but I have 20000 coins. I was getting 1000 coins per block.

Dev, please explain this. Thank you.

Pretty sure this guy said he got his wallet directly from the Dev, sounds like they are both running a client with a stupendous advantage other the rest of us?

He is mining on a fork with an old wallet. Don't use the wallet from crocko.com

Thanks dstorm. Sucks for him. That's the wallet that took over 15mins to download.

Gotta remember, there has been multiple "launches" of Virtualcoin. Gonna be honest it's quite suspicious. Especially since one of the launches made it to an exchange(s).

How many times is this coin going to be released?
If it's any thing like the previous attempts, it won't release on time and they won't update the post. It will be ninja launched in a separate post hours later so they can insta-mine the crap out of it, then create multiple threads under different user names to try and obscure that fact:

413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy now offering shares in mining contracts. MN1. Question on: April 12, 2014, 04:24:55 AM
It's an interesting approach of taking a dividend route, but just as a note, each share is kinda like getting a 1Gh/s miner. And since the network doesn't show much signs (if any) of slowing down it may be hard to make ROI on the initial investment.

That said, you never know whether these mining contract shares will be put into something else in the future.
414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Freicoin, demurrage and spending vs hoarding on: April 12, 2014, 04:10:03 AM
Demurrage is actually fairly common in a different sense. One of the simplest analogies for demurrage is paying a constant fee to keep a store of precious metals safe. In this case, the cost of keeping the precious metals safe function as the demurrage. However, in this case the store of precious metals doesn't decrease, instead a different asset is used in payment.

When it comes to cryptocurrencies though, the function changes. Demurrage is instead used to promote the circulation of money. I think it is a fascinating idea, but the problem is finding enough parties that can continue to exchange on a "constant" enough basis. In my opinion, crypto-currencies still don't have enough widespread adoption to make this sort functionality work as it should. Demurrage with such a small base of disconnected people turns each unit of currency into a metaphorical hot potato. I could see things different with a larger and more connected user base, but that's not the case right now.

Someone has a buy order for just shy of 1m Noblecoin on agx.io...
I think you mean 10m. Hehe.

Honestly, it's nice to have buy support for NOBLE.
416  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Industry Group Aims to Change Bitcoin Symbol on: April 11, 2014, 04:14:49 PM
The Dollar is not a D with a line through it... it's a $

The Pound Sterling is not a P with a line through it.... it's a £

Perhaps we're not thinking outside the box enough.
Fair point. Although, I think a lot of people have gotten used to seeing the a "B" associated with bitcoins.

[That said, I don't think they were necessarily thinking "outside the box" when creating those symbols, I think they were just looking for something convenient. £ comes from the latin word "libra" (a measure of weight), and it's widely believed that the $ came from pesos a sort of mashup of P and S due to the trading with Spanish. However, we could take a similar approach and do a mash up of binary and the letter B or something.]

What happened to that innovativecoin that had 90,000+ votes? It was there and now its gone? But I dont see that it got added...

How often do they add coins?

We will be in the top 5 in the next 10 days. < Mark these words Smiley

Took some time to get added, but I think it did: http://www.innovation-coin.org/. Never heard of it before, but it's the reason why buying votes is dangerous. Random coin out of the blue appears top spot and your BTC is wasted until next week (assuming it doesn't happen again).
Precisely.

I am glad that mintpal has increased the cost of votes again (to 0.0002). But I think the timing is slightly sucks (and maybe a tad suspicious) since starting next week they will be only allowing one voting winner per week. This basically has positioned at least two coins to have bought themselves in over the upcoming weeks (and possibly more to come).

Haven't had much of a chance to post here, but from what I can gather, Rofo continuously is working hard on furthering NOBLE each day. He and his team patched the Heartbleed issue after news broke about it and he seems to have been going around various topics to both establish a more well-rounded vantage point in the scene. Plus he has even been commenting on various news stories to make connections that way.

Keep up the great job Rofo and team!
419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shaq-Fu, a famous video game to accept Quark for In-game Transactions on: April 11, 2014, 02:26:36 PM
Very interesting, this is actually pretty cool.

[At first I thought this was some strange redo of that miserable game for the Genesis/SNES; but it looks like it'll be a legitimate game (even accepted by O'Neal himself) and the fact that QRK will be used is quite intriguing.]

Yes this one is legit for sure, got lot of positive feedback at /r/gaming. I think i'll get a copy and at the same time to experience my first in game Crypto action, pretty cool
Yeah, I think it'll be worth getting. And heck, maybe if it's good enough, it can rid me of the scars of what was Shaq Fu for the Genesis...

If the campaign is successful, I wonder what route the game publishers will take regarding dealing with the transacting of QRK.
420  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shaq-Fu, a famous video game to accept Quark for In-game Transactions on: April 11, 2014, 02:20:55 PM
You should add a * at the end of the thread title and add this to the bottom of the OP in small letters:

* If they raise $309,129 in 25 days in the indiegogo campaign.
Hehe, yeah, that might be worth mentioning.
