4081  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 2017 - 2020. Better price not yet to come. Be careful on: December 03, 2020, 07:22:59 AM
You are right. If we can learn from experience before, especially when we made a mistake, that can improve our skills. I am sure that if we can get the point of the mistake and learn how to avoid the other mistake, we can profit in the future. Bitcoin is still fluctuating, and I am not sure if there is a sign of increasing higher, but I see that you can use the fluctuating for your own benefits.

Getting profit for that percentage is more than enough in these situations because not many of us can make that profit in that percentage. So we need to grateful that we can still make a profit. The bitcoin price will reach $20k someday, and if that is not happening this month, we don't have to worry because it will happen in the future.
You are right on the hidden chances to get profits from fluctuations. Big falls or big rises rarely happen, once in a few months (3 to 4 months) but fluctuations happen everyday. Why do I need to have 10% of rise to get profit? 1 percent of profit everyday (in fact you can get more than 2 repetitions each day) and 30 days, I can get 30% of profits from my capital. No need to hopelessly wait for 10%, 20% or 30% of increase in value within a few days.

As said, my priority is protect my capital, not to increase it by taking risks.

My words sound like I am a parsimonious investor or trader.  Cheesy
4082  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am trying to understand mempool, blocks, and fees. Tell me if I'm correct. on: December 03, 2020, 07:06:34 AM
Where did you get those mempool charts?

I use the https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#1,8h to observe mempool and choose fee rate for my transactions. It is reliable and correct (you can do your double check with fee is suggested by Electrum -- choose mempool for fee estimator).

With the temporary condition of the mempool (at the time I took the screenshot), you need to use fee rate at 120 sat/(v) byte to get confirmation in next 1 block. I don't suggest you to use such over-killing fee. Weekends will give you better fee, especially on Sunday. See Weekend effects

1 block will take only 1 MB from the tip of mempool. You can see the explanation from jochen-hoenicke.de site.

Quote
This page displays the number and size of the unconfirmed bitcoin transactions, also known as the transactions in the mempool. It gives a real-time view and shows how the mempool evolves over the time. The transactions are colored by the amount of fee they pay per (virtual) byte. The data is generated from my full node and is updated every minute. Note that in bitcoin there is no global mempool; every node keeps its own set of unconfirmed transactions that it has seen. The mempool is also cleared when I reboot my node. The idea is based on the retired service bitcoinqueue.com.

The data is separated into different fee levels given in satoshi per bytes. The lowest colored stripe is for transactions that pay the lowest fee. Higher fee transactions are stacked on top of it. Since miners prefer high fee transactions, a new block usually only removes the top 1 MB from the queue. If a colored stripe persists over several hours without getting smaller, this means that transactions paying this amount of fee are not confirmed during this time, because there are higher paying transactions that take precedence. If a stripe on the bottom chart is much bigger than on the top chart, the transactions are larger than the average.

You can click on some fee level in the legend to hide all fee levels below that level. This way you can better see how many transactions are competing with that fee level.

Note that sizes include the segwit discount, i.e., the graphs show virtual byte (weight divided by four). For segwit transactions, the real size of the transaction is a bit larger than the virtual size. So for the BTC and LTC chains, a block will always take at most 1 MB from the mempool, even if it is bigger than 1 MB, because the lower diagram already shows the size in vbyte (with the segwit discount included). The segwit discount is also included when computing the fee level for a transaction. In case a transaction pays exactly the fee that defines the boundary between stripes, it is included in the higher stripe. Free transactions are not included, even if they make it into the mempool.
4083  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie with avatar? on: December 03, 2020, 06:53:40 AM
I have a question too. It's understandable that there was a time when newbies were able to use avatar function on this website but once it got permitted, then why wasn't it possible to just disable this option for everyone, for users registered before this rule. Is this something specific for simple machines forum CMS?
It is a glitch and I think it is enough to close the case (on the avatar question, not on the doubt on account compromise)

Hi Admin / Mods,

How can i remove my avatar.
Because i'm not a full member.

I'm very old member of 2013. It was possible in 2013 to upload as a normal member avatars.

I really hate my avatar , but cannot remove it,
anyone can help me?

Theymos has stated he'll remove them for people who don't want theirs anymore, but he won't change it. Best PM him but he's usually pretty busy.
4084  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Vote 2020] Best Bitcointalk Interview on: December 03, 2020, 04:45:46 AM
My vote goes to LoyceV but let me clear it out that the vote does not mean his interview is the best and he is the best member on the forum. There are many other good members and their contributions are more or less than LoyceV but it is good to have them here.

Reasons for my vote: I learned from him a lot, received his help on the forum (advice, data dumps, tutorials and his non-biased thoughts -- at least he tries to act like that), and I am convinced by his logical and reasonable thinking.

Code:
LoyceV

  • Community votes can be abused or biased and results should be analysed in-depth.
  • Rules of the vote should be clear as well if there are rewards for winners (without reward, rules should be clear certainly).
  • Applying the same vote power is not a good choice.
4085  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin hitting ATH right now? on: December 02, 2020, 06:20:14 AM
I really don't understand why people (and media as well) keep saying that BTC reached a new ATH. According to CoinMarketCap, BTC's ATH was at 20.089$ and this event happened on December 17th, 2017.

What happened recently, on December 1st, was BTC reaching a value very cloae to its ATH, but not a new ATH.
I am not sure what happened exactly on that day (even I was in the market) and why coinmarketcap gives us the 2017 all time high at $20.089. I recalled I have never seen bitcoin broke $20,000 in 2017. Double check with price charts on Trading view, it seems data from CMC is wrong on 2017 All time high or it could be a price from a leverage exchange like BitMEX or Bitfinex.

You are right about that price from CMC (I used their price table for my analysis so I knew it).

I checked 2017 all time high:
  • Bitfinex: $19,891
  • BitMEX: $20,093 (not $20,086)

bitcoinvisuals is a nice website, thanks for sharing.

Sadly they do not have their own API, the data is available only in CSV.
You are welcome, bitmover. It is not for real-time data analysis but at least with their CSV dumps, you can use such data set and merge with other available datasets that you have, then play with the merged data.

Quote
From June to December 2019 the price was in strong downtrend. I believe there is a  considerable number users who just sell their btc during that time. So they get btc out of their lightning channels.

You can see a clear correlation with the price in both chartst (BTC locked and USD locked)
It seems to be right but that price fall is not as bad as dump in late of 2018. In 2018 (late months), total lightning channels look stable and even increased very quickly after that fall. People probably were more panic in late 2019 or some other things happened.
4087  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 2017 - 2020. Better price not yet to come. Be careful on: December 02, 2020, 05:22:56 AM
Since we are in a situation where it is going down and up constantly without really us being able to predict it, I would say leverage would be super dangerous at these days anyway, without looking at any charts.
Calculation, not prediction. Especially if you are using leverage trades, you have more due reasons to calculate price (entry and exit). Leverage trading is not gambling.

Quote
Think about it, we are in a situation where we went to 19k+ first, dropped under 17k and now we are focusing on going over 18k+ and that means if you pick a leveraged position and if you are right, you could make insane amount of profit, like amount of profit we could never see anywhere, making 100x returns from it.
x100 leverage is for too greed gamblers. I never consider them as traders.

Quote
However if you are wrong, there is no way that you could come back from it, with just one small mistake you could lose all of your money, which is why I think it would not be smart to risk all the money you have in return of a 100x profit chance, it would be smarter to focus on more realistic stuff like maybe making 10% return.
Why not? There are many types of leverage trades and depends on such type, liquidation might be taken on your specific order or on your whole account balance.

You did great for taking your profit because many people don't profit when the price increases instead of waiting for another high price. That is not good for them, but they still do that over and over without realizing that the price will not stay at that high price. When we can see the profit appear at the market, perhaps, we can analyze for a bit to see if the price will still go up or down and if the situations are not good for the price to increase, perhaps, we need to take the profit and wait for another time to buyback.
It depends upon perspective and trading or investment strategies of each person. I learned from my past experience and now I will take profit at the points I identify (I could be correct or not correct with my calculation) though the price could rise up higher than my expectation. Today bitcoin is fluctuating around $18,500 and if it reaches $20,000, it will be nearly 8% of rise.

If I want to get 8% of profit, I cash out days ago at $18700, bought back at $17000 and here I go with 8.8% profit today. I would not lose any profit and get more. As said, my core approach is protection for my capital and already earned profit on screen. Why should I take risks on both losing my current profit just to get 8% more?
4088  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the most advantage of Using Bitcoin Forum ? on: December 01, 2020, 02:40:29 PM
You can get some help from community members
  • Technically, focus on bitcoin issues (wallet -- install, backup, recovery, etc., mining, development discussions)
  • Economically, some decent topics on bitcoin exclusively Wall Observer.
  • Advice on security, privacy and anonymity when you are on Internet, and use crypto services, wallets, apps
You can learn those stuffs from somewhere else of course but the forum is one of the best -- that I believe it is (if not the best) places for you and other bitcoin enthusiasts.
4089  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 2017 - 2020. Better price not yet to come. Be careful on: December 01, 2020, 01:40:56 PM
Bitcoin is now a short term, can increase quickly and fall too like that.
Blast off and weak all the way down. People will buy up like they won't have another chance to buy bitcoin.

How come it's not here yet? it is very clear, the Bitcoin price can break through $ 19,000 before the correction comes,
the correction that occurs is very reasonable, because it is certain that it is a healthy correction,
The question is "If you believe bitcoin will break $19,000 that tried to break off $20,000, will you close your eyes and buy like mad investor?" Or you will wait for correction, pull back?

Which decision is safer for you? Which one can help to protect your capital better?

Its still possible for bitcoin to move higher. I am still bullish in bitcoin because based upon its dna, it pushes upward whenever it breaks its ath price. See what happen to last pumped, bitcoin pushed more than what we think of. The correction for bitcoin is still healthy, there is no signs yet that bitcoin will take the reversal period. Let us just be positive in market and wait till bitcoin double up its price.
How many times people said this time bitcoin will not be pulled back to where it takes off again and eventually they were wrong? Adoption, institutional investments or anything else that are positive won't make sure bitcoin won't be pulled back.

Accumulation period is always a period I am afraid of, many rich people accumulate bitcoin (or any investment product) during the same period but the poor people have very little amount of money they can risk, which means we do not accumulate not only because we are afraid, but we are also poor so we do not accumulate, we just invest with small amounts.

Whales however just wait and live for these moments, they keep on investing like crazy during the downfall so they could take advantage of the increase, if the price goes down even more like we fear, they will just continue to buy because they have so much money, same thing would hurt us a ton. This is why I think accumulation period is something for the rich people and not for the people who can't afford thousands of entry each time.
Crypto whales and financial whales are different. Bitcoin and crypto market operate in their own ways and rules. There are some common characteristics but they have many differences.

Bitcoin price finally can break $19k and now hit the new ATH Grin

Sooner or later, the bitcoin price will go to $20k, and perhaps, that can happen this month.
Capital protection is the best thing and must be done. I take profit at the price I identify by my formula and wait for pull back to enter again. At the end, you need to cash out your capital in stable coins or fiat. I of course dedicate a fixed amount of bitcoin that I won't sell.
4090  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to introduce bitcoin who don't know.? on: December 01, 2020, 12:41:12 PM

Some knowledgeable influencers do what you are suggesting but remember it is not their responsibility to do so. If they contribute, we should appreciate their time and contributions. If they don't contribute, don't attack them.

Sometimes, it can cause side-effects if you are talking too much about one thing to a close-minded person. If the person you are talking with doesn't show any interest, for a few times, let's stop at this stage. If that person need information later, (s)he will find you, and it will be a time for you to talk more.  Wink
4091  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Noticed something and want to share. on: December 01, 2020, 07:23:20 AM
Noticed that! Here is only merited that posts which have the qualities and giving something better or new.
Good posts are highlighted by merit (in Green) but it is not correct for all merited posts. You need to have your own opinion that which posts are good in quality.

And also realized that here in this forum the spammers can't stand.
They are everywhere. The forum can only restrict them to rank up by merit system and the community can help to report their spam posts but they are everywhere if you check patrol page

What do you mean? If it is about copy and paste or share post, topic, article, blog, etc. you must leave original links and use quote brackets to separate which part is copy and paste, and which one is your own opinion.

And yes, I do know you did not search before you made this topic. Therefore, spend some time to read

Since you are still new I would advise you to read this guide made by @tranthidung Bitcointalk posting etiquette. It has a lot of useful info and will set you on the right track from the beginning.
Thank you. Also read that topic as well: Make your topic title, posts more attractive. OP did not choose a good topic title. The current title is too general and vague.
4092  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: USDT versus DAI token on: November 30, 2020, 02:58:20 PM
USDT is more stable but your coins can be frozen(thanks to tranthidung for the link). DAI/SAI however, though not decentralized, can't be frozen as far as I know, but is not as stable as it should be as a stablecoin. Not to mention that some potential fuck-ups can happen on that project.
I did not include DAI in my past analysis but please look at stability of some stable coins. USDT is the most or among the most stable in available stable coins.

4093  Other / Meta / Re: [PROPOSAL] Partial reset of airdropped merits on: November 30, 2020, 02:46:24 PM
Considering these parameters, I believe an airdropped merit reset for accounts that have earnt a total of zero (0) merits could benefit the community as a whole, as it would render most of these sold accounts useless. These accounts are mostly used for bounties or scams, so I think this is a reasonable request.
Your proposal was discussed many times and I feel it won't be accepted. It is unfair if apply for all grandfather members (they are active or inactive it does not matter). theymos wrote that early bitcoiners and contributors on the forum made lots of value for the forum and bitcoin community. From his view, the case is closed.

The solutions could be:
  • Managers of campaigns or bounties.
  • The community contributions to report spammers.

Top 10 Stablecoins of 2020

Be cautious and beware of risk when you use stablecoin to store your money. PSA: Most Stablecoins Can Be Frozen, Even in Your Own Wallets

Volume of USDT is much higher than volume of DAI and USDT is more commonly listed on crypto exchanges. To decentralize risks, you should use some stable coins to store your money (if you want to store them by stable coins).
4095  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help Me About [Merit] on: November 30, 2020, 01:04:16 PM
You will not receive one merit from anyone if you don't contribute something to the community. You are not newbie and knew about merit but did you read these ones?

You should read word by word from 2 topics but the quoted parts show why you did not receive merit because merit was created to stop members like you ranking up.
I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

If you view the forum as some sort of "job" where you complete some basic tasks and get paid, then you will almost certainly be disappointed, and the forum administration will not be sympathetic. If you do make money using the forum, then it will be through innovation and entrepreneurship, not any sort of mindless busywork.

Did you read the post of OgNasty in the topic you joined and hoped to earn merit?   Lips sealed
When I see a history of a lot of bounty reports, I just click the ignore button on that user.  I'm seeing a whole lot of ignored responses on this thread now, in case people were wondering why I was ignoring them (or it could be that your signature wouldn't verify but you posted it anyway without checking yourself).

You just made his life easier :-(
Believe me. (S)he will skip it.  Tongue

One of scam I learned from 2017 hype is scammers sell their bit but the buyers naively think they are buying bitcoin.  Undecided

Newbies don't know difference between bitcoin and bit as well as don't know the bitcoin units. Bit is one of bitcoin units
4097  Other / Meta / Re: Make your topic title, posts more attractive on: November 29, 2020, 01:10:49 PM
Sometimes people create a constructive post with a detailed message but they don't add their data source link or a website where they could check the authenticity of their post. Also, some people copy content from the English forum and post it into their local forum without giving credit to the main post and author or put the main data source. I am not sure it's allowed or not.
It is not allowed. Even you don't know forum rule, you should self-recognize something is wrong with such posting style and motivation behind it.

Hi guys I am cryptobossers... I got some usdt airdropped inside my wallet.. but I am unable to send it for some reason.. it always tells not enough for the fees.. but there is already 10 usdt available.. what is wrong can any one help me ?
How much USDT do you have (from airdrop)? Transaction only can be broadcasted successfully and get confirmations if your wallet has enough balance to pay for transaction fees to miners (and sometimes minimum cost for withdrawal from exchanges, exclusively fee for miners).

Beware of the chain you use to move your USDT: sending and receiving chain should be the same. You will lose your USDT if you move it cross-chain.

USDT based on TRC20, ERC20 and EOS. I don't promote Kucoin but that exchange supports 4 forms of USDT on four chains: OMNI layer, ERC20, TRC20, and EOS.

Moving USDT on TRC20 is very cheap but as said you can only move your USDT from TRC20 to another address on TRC20 chain.

The image is withdrawal fee for USDT on Binance on some chains. TRC20 is the cheapest option.
4099  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XRP must be considered a stable coin on: November 29, 2020, 08:01:34 AM
XRP must be considered a stable coin
What is stable coin? You must read the term of stable coin before you make your proposal.
Even some long lasting stable coin like Tether USD (USDT) is not truly stable as most of crypto investors thoughts. It changes with bitcoin rises or falls and the margin of USDT changes are not small enough to consider it as a perfect stablecoin. Of course, its votality is less than bitcoin or other altcoins so that you can call it as a stablecoin but beware of its votality.

XRP is an altcoin and much more volatile than USDT. It is not a stablecoin, never. You can not call a coin that has exponential rise in few days (past 2 weeks) as a stablecoin.

Quote
XRP must be considered a stable coin to better understand this project.
Disagree with you. People will be cautious of XRP if they know that it is a centralized altcoin.

Quote
There is much hype which is not good as investors are putting their money on this project which is having no future except that it is a medium of payment. I think the much better investments are tezos, neo, eth at this time.
At the end, your topic is to promote or free advertise other altcoins by taking the name of Ripple in OP.

I am a newbie here right now and I have seen lots of discussion group on Bitcointalk from where we can get more than appropriate amount of knowledge related to crypto. But I am also wondering what is the best advantage of using Bitcoin forum besides getting knowledge.
You are here in four months and because of this you are not newbie (it is only your rank on the forum that is decided by your post quality). This quoted part shows you know you can learn crypto knowledge on the forum and you know it is the advantage.

It is the forum for bitcoin initially so there are some most advantageous boards:
Bitcoin Technical Support and Wallet software. There are more advantages for sure and you have to find them.

Therefore I made this post to know more advantages of using bitcoin forum as a newbie. Could someone tell me please what are the other advantages of Bitcoin forum and what have you got from here? You can share your own thought
The hidden purpose of your topic is detected but I gave you some boards that can benefit you. No merit spree here.
