4121  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the strangest Fiat currency you have seen? on: February 09, 2020, 10:06:01 PM
Currently one of the strangest Fiat currency is Venezuelan Bolivar. Can you imagine that it is cheaper to use banknotes than toilet paper. You can use banknotes to light the fireplace because they worth less than kindling. That's what hyperinflation do with fiat currency.

Or Zimbabwe dollars:

Thats 100 000 000 000 000 $ bill. You have to be a millionaire to buy a chewing gum i guess.

Yup, I was about to say this one. Hyperinflation in Venezuela and Zimbabwe caused the value of its currency to significantly decrease while its face-value remained significantly high. Usually when the economic conditions of a country is on the red, the value of the currency drops. People on those countries have a higher demand on products but they cannot purchase anything due to the lack of supply on the market. With this in mind, the currency becomes worthless that they result in the barter system of trading.
4122  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Real reasons to Why do you gamble? on: February 09, 2020, 11:55:17 AM
Entertainment is the correct reply in my sense. People are different I know that. Someone definitely think that making donations are much better and worthyer. But I'm not that type. I gamble to spend my free time on a nice wave, to take a risk and have some fun. To gain some profit from that also would be nice  Wink

There was a thread posted in this subtopic awhile ago asking on what matters whenever you gamble, either the process or the outcome. Most people have replied that the process is what makes gambling attractive, while the others replied the outcome of their decision.

Like what you have said, it varies per person on what they see and feel towards gambling. Some people who are financially struggling tend to look gambling as an avenue of gaining them quick profits, while people who are financially secured see this as a form of entertainment. Regardless, gambling will always be something that people would spend their time and find meaning to it.
4123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What would make you stop gambling? on: February 09, 2020, 05:29:58 AM
With deep emotional reason can help you to stop gambling, there should be a strong reason about why you want to stop gambling but it is not easy to achieve specially if you stuck in addiction. Proper counseling can help you to stop gambling but commitment is still rewuured because you will never quit without it. I became addicted also in gambling but I overcome that challenge in my life because I have commitment to stop that kind of addiction.

Curing addiction is not an overnight process as it requires tremendous effort on both your family and to yourself as well. Everything stems from the mind of a person who is willing and determined to change his habits and get past the phase of your toxic environment.

I know some of my friends who were hardcore gamblers but they soon stopped once they realized that they had obligations to meet. Most of them were fathers who their family rely on and some were just normal individuals like us. What I am saying is that, if we are really determined to meet our goals, then we need to work hard for it.

4125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Money System Worked? on: February 08, 2020, 06:15:18 PM
The history of money started with the barter system wherein people exchanged goods and products to one another. Although some countries still practice this system, it became a hindrance of development to some countries without having a standard unit of currency. It slowly shifted into metal coins composed of precious materials like gold and silver. While this became the currency over the next couple of years, these precious metals were considered as luxurious items. Thus, the change to fiat/paper money was inevitable and this is currently our system of money.

In my opinion, coins made out of precious metals were considered the most effective. Every coin has its inherent value that carries with it the material it is composed from. Unlike today, the value of our currency depends upon the number of gold reserve the country has.
4126  Economy / Speculation / Re: Corona Virus will Impact the price of Bitcoin ? on: February 08, 2020, 03:59:59 AM
The corona virus has been attacked in many countries. Many People have died and many more people have been attacked this virus. so do you think situation with corona virus will impact the price of Bitcoin.

I doubt that such epidemic will cause a significant damage to cryptocurrencies, in general. The only scenario that I see that it will affect its price if most of the population or countries are affected by the virus and NO such cure has been released.

The virus may cause fear in the public and basically affect their lifestyle but I have some doubts that it will affect the market of cryptocurrencies. It will first affect the consumer markets which include products of essentials, etc. and employment before it affects cryptocurrencies.

The corona virus has been attacked in many countries. Many People have died and many more people have been attacked this virus. so do you think situation with corona virus will impact the price of Bitcoin.
In a way it could increase bitcoin demand as  people will avoid using cash and try to make contactless payments to minimize the exposure to this virus.

So in a way this deadly virus could work in favor of bitcoin(cryptocurrencies)

To be honest, I fear that the supply of our products in the supermarket will first to be affected if such virus affects most countries. I would first be worried on my own health before I think about my bitcoins.
4127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it good to talk about big gains? on: February 08, 2020, 03:12:19 AM
If we keep bragging the gains that we earned, we will just look stupid because there is nothing to brag about. Even if we earned huge amount of money we are still vulnerable to losses because it is inevitable. Being low key or being humble is the right mindset where we are open to new ideas of other persons. We should not brag like we know all of things it doesn't make sense after so we should not become a boastful person.
This is right, better we should not brag our winnings to others except our love ones. As we all know other people sometimes may envy the amount of big money you earn. Just treasure the moment that you have big gains when playing and also we cannot deny the fact that there are losses you have when you gamble.

There are times that you just want to share your huge jackpot and it is also inevitable that you talk to someone during this phase. But if you continue sharing these experiences, then you would definitely look someone who is desperate trying to catch the attention of other people.

What most gamblers fail to realize is that their winnings are also the same amount that they lost. Gambling can be very deceiving especially at times when you win since it lets you think that you are actually earning, but the truth is that you're just recovering what you have lost entirely.

That's true when you sum it up, your winnings against your losses you'll find out that you have nothing to brag about I done that to myself I calculate my losses and my winnings and there's really nothing to brag because you just regain your losses, from all your previous losses.

And I think yours is better.

If I will be summing up all of my earnings and losses in gambling, my earnings are not enough to cover my losses. My losses are that much that it is not even half of my earnings. How could I even brag about it? I can talk some of my wins but I will never brag about it.

That is actually true. Like what I have just said, gambling can be very deceiving to people who get addicted. It is also dangerous to most people who view it as an avenue of earning money as it cannot be profitable long-term.
4128  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 NBA Season on: February 07, 2020, 10:09:58 AM
Meanwhile, we are seeing the Rockets now giving some good competition with the Lakers, it seems like they don't have any problem without Capela.

I think they will be having a hard time when it comes to good defender teams.

Lakers took advantage of not having a big man and they focussed on AD which scored 32 with 13 rebounds though that is not enough since Rockets have a lot of players shooting on three. They got 19 threes, which is half of the scores they accumulated while Lakers got only 9. I forgot that they have those shooters so every game of Rockets will usually be a three-point shootout being lead by Westbrook, James and Gordon.

I don't think Lakers took advantage on the undersized Rockets, the stats say so...

Lakers go total rebounds of 38, while the Rockets got 37, they only got taken advantage by 1 rebound and rockets is still good then.
This game, Rockets were just efficient and it seems like they were successful letting Westbrook shoot the ball more.

They are out bounded by the efficiency of rockets fast game and seems the Lakers didn't see that  coming since they are focus on the disadvantage side for not having a legitimate center and rockets prove that they still the best without a tank, for sure their next opponent will see that a threat and will adjust for the efficient small ball rockets.

I was actually surprised on how efficient the game went for the Rockets. At hindsight, my first guess was they would be dominated by the paint by the Lakers and win by considerable margin but they snatch the win through their efficiency and passing. James Harden does not need to score at least 40+ points per night to win. They just have to continue their pacing and get their scorers to play hot and hit those 3s to seal the deal.

Again this would be a different story if it were the playoffs now as teams will be more competitive and defensive on the end.
4129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Usage Among Merchants Is Up on: February 07, 2020, 09:54:30 AM
Fortunately, merchants in the Philippines that accept bitcoin have been increasing over the past years. One thing also to note is that our local exchange provide different payment options for various services. These merchants saw the opportunity of bitcoin and began accepting it as a mode of payment. But I consider bitcoin as a valuable asset for investment.

I think this depends on the place that you are in.

In my country, despite the legalization of cryptocurrencies, people are still not accepting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that much. Online, there are some mobile payments that accept Bitcoin but in terms of offline transactions or payment methods, they prefer fiat. Some say it is their investment so they will hold into it rather than use it.

This is true. While other countries have progression in the acceptance of cryptocurrencies, there are others who are still yet to be accepted as a means of payment for services/product. This also depends on the government regarding their stand with cryptocurrencies. Once they give the green signal, merchants would start accepting it as a mode of payment.
4130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 NBA Season on: February 06, 2020, 11:07:45 PM
We will be able to see how the Rockets would play now, tomorrow they'll be playing against the Lakers on the road, so we can tell if they are really effective with their short center. Westbrook is still questionable but hopefully he will play and it seems like Davis are also the same status as Westbrook but it's nice to witness if all these players are available in this game, Lakers should dominate the paint area here.

Seeing on how the composition of Rockets are mainly forwards against a team composed of giants, I guess Rockets will have a difficult time against the lineup of Lakers. Without Westbrook and an effective center position, Lebron and McGee will dominate the paint and at least control the area enforcing more defense on the 3s. Many people have speculated that Lakers could be the champions this year and their hard work and determination prove that they are the main contender for that spot.
4131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UK gamblers cannot use Credit Cards for gambling from April 14, 2020 on: February 06, 2020, 09:04:05 PM
Under the police power of the State, they have the power to regulate and impose such restrictions for the welfare of its people. If the State recognizes the detrimental effects of gambling to its citizens, they can further create laws tending to this problem. Although the restriction was made directly into credit cards, gamblers can still circumvent the law by withdrawing directly the cash from the credit card and gamble with fiat.

It will still benefit those gamblers who are abusing their credit cards for gambling but they will surely still find another mode of the transaction just to pursue playing. As long as crypto gambling is legal in their country, no one could stop players to gamble because there are still alternative ways except for credit cards.

Like what most people have mentioned, even if the restriction failed to consider other aspects in which gamblers can still gamble using their credit cards, it is still a good start in limiting their addiction. They would still have to go to an ATM and withdraw their cash instead of directly using to their convenience the credit card for gambling.
4132  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Taxation on: February 06, 2020, 02:18:43 PM
Sad to say, it's just how things go most of the time. Even I am a critic of taxing cryptocurrency transactions since after all it defeats the purpose of cryptocurrencies being decentralized in the first place. But if you consider the fact that it'll allow cryptocurrencies to be much more accepted and accredited by your local government almost outweighs the feeling of being taxed. Until we can find a way to ensure cryptocurrency transactions safer and a bit more convenient than what it is now we might need to put up with what the government wants

I agree with your statement.

There exists a boundary between the taxation of cryptocurrency (which would benefit its users as it will provide a layer of protection and regulation) but it will defeat the very essence of it being decentralized and its anonymity factor. Bearing this in mind, is it worth to sacrifice decentralization for protection and regulation by the government? The answer will vary depending on an individual's experience but taxation in cryptocurrency defeats the vision on what Satoshi imagined when he developed this technology.

I guess the phrase 'getting the best of both worlds' is not applicable (at least for now) if we consider these circumstances surrounding cryptocurrencies and the intervention (taxation) by the government.

4134  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Conor McGregor vs Manny Pacquiao on: February 05, 2020, 08:00:06 PM
It will surely bring a lot of money but I would not suggest that this fight is good for Manny, he is still active in boxing, I think this kind of fight is only good when he already retired in boxing like Mayweather.. people love entertainment but hopefully will choose those who are real boxers and has the title so his journey will continue as one of the oldest boxer in the world that are still active and winning.

Time and time again, Manny Pacquiao has proven and answered all the doubts that he can still fight despite his growing age. Even if Connor McGregor may be the younger player, the experience that Pacquiao has on the ring is unparalleled. Not to mention, his lightning fast speed and deadly technique/combinations can put McGregor to a really tight spot!

I have to say if the fight supposedly happens, McGregor is the one with the HEAVY disadvantage since he is fighting one of boxing's legend on the ring. But with these kinds of fights nowadays, everything revolves around money!
4135  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling: process vs outcome on: February 05, 2020, 07:50:47 AM
The process of anticipating seems so interesting to me. Winning does matter, yeah but most of the time, the pride of predicting something to be able to earn a money, bsating mathematics which is said to be low chance percentage to happen is amazing. Also, some application of mathematics is good to me as the percentage of a team winning and if terms of dices where luck plays a large role, it is really anticipating something you don't anticipate so it is more exciting.

Usually with this kind of mindset, the process outweighs the result regardless if it is a win/loss. Most of the time, dice games are more inclined and suited to people who see outcome as their priority while card games are for people who enjoy the entire process.

Both process and outcome are important for me absolutely. Process, it means that I should enjoy the game that I play and outcome is the dream of gambling where people hoping to get good result anytime they are gambling. Of course, I also hope for the best outcome whenever I do gambling but if the outcome is not what I expect then I should not regret it because anytime I started to gamble means that I'm ready for anything.

If you view it this way, then you will most probably avoid being addicted as you both enjoy regardless of the result of the game. Generally, people who chase for profits prioritize the outcome rather than the process. They would see to it that the result is what matters as it involves around getting money to answer for their financial conflicts, etc.
4136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A clue on how to make them see that bitcoin isn't a scam on: February 05, 2020, 06:27:01 AM
<snip...>

Removing a stigma from something that has been heavily influenced by the media as a 'scam' can be significantly difficult especially if you are dealing with people who are ignorant of listening to the facts.

One of the ways in order to at least convince them that bitcoin is not a scam is through showing your actual earnings. Show results by showing them the process of earning and the actual fruits of your income through your investments. Another way is to educate them and introduce this forum. I know lots of people who firstly doubt cryptocurrencies but the irony is, they are now members of this forum!

4137  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [AMA] The Life of a Professional Gambler on: February 04, 2020, 10:21:27 PM
I have three (3) questions regarding the gambling life, in general:

First, how did your family react when they found out that you using gambling as your profession and main source of income?
Second, was there any point in your gambling life that you almost quitted this profession due to its risky and unpredictable stream of income?
Lastly, are there any advice that you would like to say to gamblers who aspire to use it as their main profession?

I used to gamble back in the days with my brother and I mainly viewed it as a form of entertainment to improve my relationship with him. I would very much appreciate to see on your point-of-view on how you chose this life.
4138  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Price Prediction, is it helpful or falsehope for us? on: February 04, 2020, 09:59:46 PM
Nakakatulong nga ba sa ating mga pilipino ang mga price prediction ng mga batikan at sabihin na nating magaling na mga investors sa bitcoin o isa lang itong falsehope o sa tagalog ay paasa?

Any prediction BACKED with sufficient research and study is always helpful to at least forecast the future price and trend of cryptocurrencies (specifically bitcoin). May mga current events din ang nag-aaffeect sa price nito kaya yung pag predict ng price sa isang quarter ay makakatulong kung gusto mo mag HOLD, SELL, or PURCHASE more depending on your goal.

Although walang tao ang makakapag predict ng price accurately, sobrang helpful din ito sa mga newbie at long time investors sa decision making nila. Magiging 'falsehope' lang ito kung mag sasabi ka ng prediction without any study or research behind it.
4139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: two gambling games that are players favorite on: February 04, 2020, 09:52:36 PM
There are two games gamblers like this are card games and dice games ive seen people who look for this games everywhere , because this games are easy to learn and dont need too much effort how to do it, at the same time there is a bit high chance to win, aside from other games do you agree with me, feel free to share ypur opinion thanks

It actually depends on what gamblers aim for but generally, card and dice games are preferred.

Card games usually require skill and luck in order to increase your chances of winning. This is also the reason on why most professional poker players use it as a means of living, although it also requires some luck and strategy. On the other hand, dice games are usually for people who casually gambles in order to earn a quick buck. It is relatively faster and straight to the point where it does not require such technical skill but rely heavily on luck.

dice may have been very popular among gamblers, many people who like dice games, although there are many other gambling games, dice is the simplest gambling to play. the two gambles that I like the most are dice and ball gambling because both of these types of games in my opinion are gambling that can be won purely based on luck

Maybe people will choose dice than the other games because the dice game is easy to play. There is no need to learn the rule because if they can place the bet and click the roll button, they will see what will come out. If they win, they can get the money, but if they lose, they don't get the money. Dice games can make people have a big tension because they can forget to use big money if they chase winning.

In addition to what you have stated, dice games are generally faster and simpler compared to card games where the latter requires technical skill and strategy in order to increase your chances of winning. Most casinos that I have visited in the past have machines specifically for dice/roulette games.
4140  Economy / Economics / Re: How many bitcoin is enough? on: February 04, 2020, 08:40:44 PM
<snip...>

Fixing a limit into which how many bitcoins should I earn only hampers my potential of earning more. The right mindset would be earning as much as bitcoin to provide for your needs and for the future.

One thing to note also, the answer highly depends on how you view your investments. If you invest and purchase bitcoin for short-term investments, the income generated may be used for your personal needs or for something that requires necessity. If you invest and purchase bitcoin for long-term investments, the income generated may be used for long-term planning of saving your bitcoins for the benefit of the next generation.

Again, this depends on how you view your investments as a whole or partly but generally you should never put a limit/cap to your goal.
