421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Powering Risers with non-motherboard connect PSU on: March 21, 2018, 08:25:09 PM
I have read mixed opinion on this one. Some say to power you risers with only the PSU connected to motherboard while some say it not a problem.

I recently built my first rig - 12*1050ti powering it two 750w PSU connected through spiliter.

I am powering half of my cards and their risers with one PSU and vice versa. So half of my risers are powered by PSU that is not connected to motherboard. Can it cause problems ?

EDIT : I think you guys are getting me wrong. I am powering my GPU and it's riser with same PSU.  But 6 of my GPU and the riser to which they are connected are powered by a PSU that is not connected to motherboard. I read somewhere that all risers should be powered by PSU that is connected to motherboard.
422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining Altcoins or buying them from mined ethereum ? Strategy ? on: March 21, 2018, 08:18:50 PM
Hi guys,

What do you think will get me more altcoins. Mining it or buying it from mined ethereum.

Just in general, what will be better for new altcoins or unpopular or popular altcoins (if it makes any difference).

i have tried some command by looking at a video, where we find the partition and set it as root but when i enter "insmod normal" it again says "error: unknown file system"
424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HELP : URGENT running HIVE OS Error grub !!! Please on: March 14, 2018, 12:21:46 PM
Is your USB got enough memory for extra storage and writing? Needs to be able to write as well as read.

As for the second, did you duplicate the USB identically for your second? I only ask because every separate rig needs a fresh install/OS as every device has unique serials etc so would be buggy to duplicate a USB OS.

My first pendrive was 16gb usb3.1 brand new

My second pendrive is 32gb. I flashed it from the iso on my computer.
425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / HELP : URGENT running HIVE OS Error grub !!! Please on: March 14, 2018, 11:55:08 AM
Hi guys, I am trying to run my first rig on Hive OS and I have already made one of my pen drives almost dead.

Now I have installed it on my second pen drive and it gives the following :

error : unknown file system
Entering rescue mode....
grub Rescue>_

Please tell how can remove the grub error from my second pendrive.

(I ran it successfully on my first pen drive and it also started mining but then after a few shut downs, it stopped working.
Now it doesn't load and is stuck on a black screen with a blinking "_". The pendrive is not recognised on Win10 and I am unable to format it even in safe mode command prompt.)

EDIT : I installed it on my scond pen drive again and now it's working BUT how can I repair my 1st pen drive. It does not connect in Win10 and on my rig it just gets stuck on black screen with "_" blinking.

Thanks

I read a news few month ago where 16 antminer s9 were seized in Nepal. The man was arrested. He was mining for 6 months. I wonder what happened to those machines...
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Claymore or Ethminer on: March 12, 2018, 08:21:46 AM
Please tell which is better for my 1050ti rig. Claymore or Ethminer for mining etherium only.

I like to think that Ethminer is better because I will be mining etherium only. I will be using Hive OS.

First of all, do not use SATA. Use either molex or PCI-E. I suppose there is one card now, when you will have more, I think you should go for a modular PSU.

No I am gonna power 12 1050ti with 2 Antec Classic 750W (non-modular, gold). I will start slowly of course, one by one, observing and learning.
You arent going to be able to power everything with a 750w 80% efficient power supply.  80% (.Cool of 750w is 600w available power.  Max tdp of the 1050 Ti is 75 ( x 12) = 900w and that isnt even including the motherboard, cpu, ssd, etc.  You are going to have to spring for a larger power supply and I would get a modular.  All of mine are.

I said I am gonna use 2*750W PSUs i.e. 1500W or 1200W at 80 %

431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / HELP : Correct way to power risers ? on: March 11, 2018, 05:27:45 PM
Hello guys,

I am trying to setup my hardware. Can you please tell me how do I power my risers ? My risers have a 6-pin, molex and a SATA port.
It has VER008s written on it.

I will be using 6-pin cord to power my 1050ti. So how do I power them ? I have non-modular PSU.

Please see what cables my PSU has. https://prnt.sc/ipqvsb

Thank You
432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / HELP : Best way to power Risers & what is the best miner on: March 10, 2018, 07:44:30 PM
Please tell me how do I power my risers. I have 2 Antec 750W PSUs (non modular) which will power my 12*1050 ti rig. My riser have a SATA, molex and 6-pin slot. The retailer from which I bought my mining stuff was powering the same rig and risers with SATA on a modular PSU.

Also which is the best miner is for mining etherium only. Do people still use ethminer ? I think claymore is better suitable for dual mining. Is bminer any good ?

I will mine using Hive OS. Also point me towards best wallet and pool.

Thanks a lot guys, you are the best.

You can also start second PSU by paper clip (shorting green and one of black wires). Add2PSU or dual PSU connector are used for syncrhonized start of PSU's and is prefered way. BTW, using local home wifi connection without any problems.

Yes, I am gonna do it just now. But does that mean that I won't be able to use Add2PSU or dual PSU connector in future ? Do people still use paper clip method ? AND all of my wires are black. Can I use safety pin instead of paper clip ?

I have non modular PSU btw.

Also how do I power my risers ? my riser have a slot for SATA, molex and 6-pin. The retailer who sold me the stuff was using SATA on that same riser.

Do your 1050 Ti require 6-pin power connector? If so, it might be okay to use PCIe splitters. The 1050 Ti don't draw much power.

Yes my 1050ti has 6-pin connector. Do I really need a dual power supply connector. Can I just plug the one of PSU to mother boards and use it's 6 cables to power 6 GPUs and use other PSU to power my 6 other GPUs and then put both of their plugs into a surge protector/power strip.

Do not use WIFI.  There is an excellent chance your rig will never mine correctly if you do not use a direct connection.

What about USB 4g dongle/stick
435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Help URGENT ! Setting up FIRST RIG on: March 10, 2018, 04:34:12 AM
Hello guys,

I am trying to setup my first rig but I have run into few problems, please help me :

1. I bought 2 Antec 750W gold PSUs (non modular). How do I run them ? Do you plug PSU directly into the wall or do you use extension (I have read that extension are bad) or that thing that has many sockets (it's also extension I think). Also, I also don't know how to run two PSUs on single motherboard for mining.

2. Please tell me how to connect all of the rig with PSU. I have 12 1050ti, a 12 GPU Mora motherboard. 2 Antec Classic Power 750W Gold (non modular).

3. Can sudden power out cause damage to my rig ? My town gets no electricity for a few minutes everyday randomly, I do have a UPS inverter for my home.

4. Can I use USB dongle (4g) or WIFI for internet or it's no good compared to LAN. If LAN is necessary how much data plan is good, how much data will it consume everyday ? Does the connection needs to be 100% constant ? What if the connection breaks for a few sec or minutes.

UPDATE : #1 looks like solved. I inserted a safety pin(which is used on cloths) in 24 pin connector instead of a paper clip and ran the PSU. It worked, the PSUs fan started running. #2 I figured that out and also #4
436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Urgent HELP Selecting Hardware (PSU) on: March 08, 2018, 06:34:10 AM
Yes. There is battle going on in my brain for choosing weather to mine or just buy coins. Market has reached very low within last 2 days.

But I think I will still mine just for the fun part and because for past 4 years I have been saying that's it too late now, so this time weather I pass or fail I have to give it a shot.

Another MAJOR downside will be Nvidia releasing new GPUs later this year which will further increase the difficulty while making the current cards obsolete both for mining and for reselling later, coupled with the low prices of cryptocurrencies and high price of GPUs (which will not come down no matter how unprofitable mining becomes), it looks like game over or disaster for small guys or new guys. Only worth it if you hold all of your coins and hoping that they might increase in value in future but then some analysts say that Etherium will drop in value once it goes POS.

But still risk wise, buying coins is a very low risk compared to mining and risk to reward ratio sucks for mining.

437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Urgent HELP Selecting Hardware (PSU) on: March 07, 2018, 09:53:04 PM
I can't find any reputable server psu brand except HP. Most of them are Chinese. Also it looks more risky as it will be my first rig and not many people are using them for small scale.

I think I will buy 2*650W or 2*750 for my my 8*1070 rig (5 cards now + 3 later down the road).

Or maybe a 1000W for my first 5 cards and later an additional 450W when I add 3 more cards.

Any PSU over 1000W looks very costly.

There is also this cable problem which looks very confusing to me.
438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Urgent HELP Selecting Hardware (PSU) on: March 07, 2018, 08:36:37 PM
Looks like I would need a 1300+ watt PSU. But I have read guys running a 6*1070 rig with 800W psu.

A single 1300W PSU costs a lot compared to 2*700W PSUs. But then I don't have any experience in mining.
439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Urgent HELP Selecting Hardware (PSU) on: March 07, 2018, 06:59:26 PM
Hi guys,

I will purchase 5 GTX 1070 today. Can you suggest how much powerful PSU will be good enough. I will be adding 3 more cards later and run full 8 gpus on the motherboard. Is Gold rating for PSU worth it ? My electricity rate is 0.08$

Should I buy two PSUs instead of one (I am budget conscious)

Also please tell me the best and the second best CPU for my rig (In case first one is not available to me).

Also should I go for a USB 3.0 Pendrive or SSD ?

Thanks

More reliable than work, because he will not strike for you, keep giving you profits, keep giving you COINS, you can even dig a lifetime, you can be intoxicated in it.

LOl. I m not gonna take it too seriously as things can take a downturn but it is good. The sad thing is I knew about this 4 years ago but always used to think that it's too late now. I will make some bucks probably but it will be fun and interesting that's for sure.
