421  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is safest wallet for bitcoin long term holding? on: September 06, 2023, 08:05:25 AM
Hello guys with several wallets out there, I want to be sure make the right choice, because I have seen posts were members of this forum are complaining about some wallets and exchanges because of their unprofessional behavior.
So my question is, apart from electrum wallet which other wallet is the safest for long term holding of bitcoin?.

With the current reduction of price in Bitcoin, is it the best time to buy bitcoin or should I still wait for the dip?.
Though I have seen some post talking about "buy now or wait for the dip" but the debating answers got me confused, so I need the final clarity from you guys.

Open-source hardware wallets are what you should consider using (Passport, Trezor).

As for your question about buying the dip, no one can really help you make that decision. It's completely up to you. You should understand the price is very volatile, and any news (for example ETFs being rejected/approved) could trigger a big move in price.
422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Are telegram bots for trading worth it? on: September 05, 2023, 04:27:31 PM
Thanks for this and now I really have an insight. The thing is, how can I make sure that they are to be trusted or how to know that they're open source or how to actually read them? I think it all boils down to the latter question to be honest because I don't know really about these codes and have a very limited knowledge on it. I know those bots, I'm just into these trading bots to be specific, I should edit my title for that.

Well, if you know the project is open source, then you would have to compile it yourself. You can't just go ahead and use that bot on your telegram because as far as I know, there's is no way to know whether the code of the bot you're using, matches whatever is hosted on Github.
423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Are telegram bots worth it? on: September 05, 2023, 03:35:36 PM
I do use telegram bots, but not for managing trades, etc. I'm not sure that's wise to use either. If you're going to use something like that, you have to trust the developer of the bot, because you can't do anything with your exchange's account without giving your API keys (which could potentially allow the developer to steal your funds). Either that or the bot you're using must be open-source.

Now if you're talking about other kinds of bots (crypto news, prices, whale alerts..) then sure, some of them are quite useful and don't really require anything but launching the bot.
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help me exchange my bitcoins on: September 04, 2023, 09:56:10 AM
You don't trust exchanges as in you don't want to submit your documents for verification? If it's due to something else, then you could always use Binance P2P and sell your BTC to USDC.

Alternatively, you might be able to find someone to deal with it on AgoraDesk or BISQ directly using your local currency and without having to go through USDC.
425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Cheapest way to transfer funds to Linea/zkSync on: September 04, 2023, 09:27:57 AM
I would imagine that the cheapest way would be to use a CEX. Could you recommend one to me? I know that OKX supports Linea but I have stopped using them since they implemented KYC. I need to transfer the funds from Polygon zkEVM but I'm flexible. I don't mind going through Bitcoin, or some other coin if needed as long as the process is as cheap as possible. I'm aware of bridges like Orbiter Finance, but that's a bit too expensive (for the small amount I'm trying to move).
426  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to check for historical prices for coin years ago at exact time? on: September 04, 2023, 08:02:59 AM
So i created a free account on cryptodatadownload.  I then went to binance and entered the coin.  It gives me option to download CSV but when I do that, you can only look at the high, low, closing etc of the coin on previous dates.  Where is the chart for this?  Where am I suppose to click on?

I am trying to look for the price at say January 3, 2022 at say 8am USA West Coast time.

You can use the closing column if you want to know the price. There's no chart, I would imagine you can make one with the data on that CSV but you would need some technical knowledge for that.

Same thing with the time, and as I mentioned above, you probably need to convert the Unix timestamp on the first column to USA West coast time, that way it's easier for you to browse or... You can just look what's the equivalent of that in GMT+1 (I think) and then look for it on the CSV file.
427  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Free Withdrawals Exchanges on: September 03, 2023, 03:48:56 PM
I usually suggest withdrawalfees.com as well but I have noticed lately that it's not really updating its data much. You can check this one as an alternative[1] (Select a coin then go to "fees").

Does it have to be for all the coins though? If it's just for bitcoin then maybe OKX or Binance using the lightning network?

428  Economy / Service Discussion / [Discussion] Bitcoin Spot ETFs on: September 03, 2023, 03:13:32 PM
With all of the talk about Bitcoin Spot ETFs lately, I thought it would be a good idea to make a topic so we can discuss them.

This right here is the SEC's deadlines to issue a decision about the different ETFs (Source: BeInCrypto[1]):

So now with them missing the first deadline, the next one will be next Month (the 17th of October). Your thoughts on this? The good, the bad, the odds of getting approved?

429  Economy / Exchanges / Hong kong x Bitcoin on: September 03, 2023, 02:37:13 PM
So maybe it was me who had the wrong assumptions here, but wasn't everyone excited about Hong Kong and HashKey launching as the first crypto platform there on the 28th of August? I was really expecting to see millions of dollars in terms of trading volume but now that I'm checking the platform:

https://www.hashkey.com/en-US/spot/BTC_USD (If you can't access the link, use a VPN with Hong Kong servers).

It's very disappointing, to say the least (less than 100K volume). So what am I missing here?
430  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to check for historical prices for coin years ago at exact time? on: September 03, 2023, 09:13:32 AM
The issue with gemini and bitfinex is it only shows the data of coins that their exchange supports only though right?  The website does seem to show coinbase and binance.

So if binance supported a coin say all the way back in 2019, you could find the exact price of that coin on say January 3, 2019 at say 8am USA West Coast time?  So you could check what it was at 5pm USA West Coast time as well?  Yea I am talking about hourly.  Like you want to know what the price was at say 8am or 5pm.  I assume no site would show what it was like at say 8:27am right?  You just have to round it from 8am or 8:30am?

Yes, you can only see the data found on those exchanges. This is different than CMC which takes the data from multiple exchanges. So I checked the Binance ones:

And it looks like it has the data by the minute  (you need to create a free account in order to see it apparently)

The CSV files have the Unix timestamp, so I would imagine you could use that to convert the time to whatever timezone you want using Excel.
431  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to check for historical prices for coin years ago at exact time? on: September 03, 2023, 08:40:40 AM
Check CryptoDataDownload. They have multiple other exchanges out there, but just to give you an idea:

- Gemini: https://www.cryptodatadownload.com/data/gemini/
- Bitfinex: https://www.cryptodatadownload.com/data/bitfinex/

If the data you're looking for is very old, you might have a difficult time finding it, especially the hourly one.
432  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: September 03, 2023, 07:42:33 AM
If you are using Binance on a smartphone, I am assuming you work with either Binance's iOS or Android app. A portfolio and wallet overview is available there. Unstoppable Wallet is a mobile wallet only. It doesn't have a desktop version. I don't see the point of looking at your Binance portfolio through a second app, like the Unstoppable Wallet if you can and already use the exchange's dedicated app. But that's for each individual to decide.

I agree. Maybe it's not useful on its own right now but as they integrate more exchanges to the app, it would definitely be worth it. I don't see why would someone check each exchange app he has individually when he can do it in one app.

Well, this sync probelm is not a big deal, the real problem comes if you have multiple wallets on Unstoppable wallet and you have to open each wallet to get it sync. Would it be better if the unstoppable wallet could sync all the wallets at same time.

Isn't this how all the wallets out there work? Trustwallet, Electrum, etc. you have to load each wallet individually. I don't think it makes a lot of sense from a user experience perspective to sync all the wallets (which is a time-consuming process) when you're not really sure if the user is going to open them later or not.
433  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance will remove and cease trading on the following trading pairs -! on: September 03, 2023, 05:59:07 AM
This has already happened and as you can see, nothing happened to these coin's prices. These assets were not delisted, it's their trading pairs that got removed and besides, they are still available to trade for USDT instead of BUSD.
434  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: September 02, 2023, 04:18:36 PM
I currently have 0.33.3 version and the only issue which i face is the syncing of the wallet. It takes a lot of time in synchronization. If you do not open wallet daily and open after a few days/weeks it takes considerable time. Specially the ZEC blockchain on my phone is still downloading the blocks on this wallet  Sad

Has this sync issue been addressed in this release, and should i update my wallet?

Not sure if things have changed since 0.33.3, but I don't believe so since there's nothing on the released page and this is the latest post I found from the team regarding this issue[1]. Apparently, there's nothing much they can do about it.

Do you know any other wallets that are faster? if so, maybe you should send them its name as they asked, that might help them.

So the 0.34.0 is now out. I was expecting more than this, but still, good features to have (the ones ones)[1]:

- You can now get support using Telegram.
- You can link your Binance account (read-only mode) to keep track of your balances (basically something like CoinStat, Delta, etc.). I'm hoping to see this added to other exchanges.
- And they also changed the way they estimate the fees.

And you can also now donate to the developers through the app settings.

@dkbit98 @Charles-Tim both Monero and Algorand are the roadmap[2][3].

436  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Mixing coins through exchanges on: September 02, 2023, 01:09:21 PM
Easily? They probably won't for the average user, no. But if you're going to use a centralized exchange, then yes because they could track all of the deposits, withdrawals, and trading you made and it's even worse with KYC exchanges, since everything will lead to your identity, and not just a bitcoin address.
437  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: September 02, 2023, 09:35:20 AM
Not related to the case, but James Jani just released a documentary about FTX[1] if anyone is interested. I still haven't watched it yet, but I have seen some of his previous documentaries, they're pretty high quality.

No, you're not wrong. It's not working for a few weeks now. As an alternative, you can use TalkImg which is made by one of the forum members[1][2].

439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Problem with importing crtypto wallet on: August 31, 2023, 09:15:02 PM
You're importing the private keys/seed phrases and not sweeping them. Next time, you should  create a new wallet in your Guarda and then send the funds as you normally would do when sending to somebody else.

Not sure what you mean by quit the wallet tho. Do you want them completely removed, or you want new wallets that don't have the same one as Guarda?
440  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Where to purchase bitcoin to avoid being a victim of fraud on: August 31, 2023, 04:33:30 PM

That's probably not going to be of too much help for OP, since it sounds like he's a newcomer and he wants to buy Bitcoin with fiat which none of the exchanges listed on that list supports, not unless he verifies his identity anyway.
