421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google is preparing for Spot Bitcoin ETF on: December 15, 2023, 11:15:10 AM
In anticipation of the approval of Bitcoin ETF, Google is adjusting its guidelines for crypto-related products. Before now Google had been very strict on crypto-related advertising on the platform because of concerns for fraud and misleading promotion. However, it seems they are gradually adjusting these policies to reflect the increased mainstream or institutional adoption of Bitcoin.

From January 2024 Google will allow adverts on financial products that allow investors to trade shares in trusts holding large pools of digital currency known as "Cryptocurrency Coin Trusts". With this change in policy crypto coin trusts could run ads on Google provided they register with the SEC. This subtle adjustment of ads policy is an indication that they are preparing for Spot Bitcoin ETF.

Investors buying shares in crypto coin trusts? Sounds like some centralized sh*t to me. It's like we are back in 2017, or back in the "Bitcoin futures trading era" as I like to call it. Investors don't need financial derivatives, they should buy BTC directly.
Anyway, Google can advertise whatever they want. I don't know about a clear correlation between this change of the Google Ads policy and the Bitcoin ETF approval. I don't believe that some high tier Google executives have insider information about SEC approving the Bitcoin Spot ETF.
422  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think that this is aperfect analogy of how gambling addiction starts? on: December 15, 2023, 07:14:06 AM
Read this transcript of Andreas Analogy of how gambling addiction kicks off and tell me if you think he is right or not. Basically, your opinion.

Gambling is a tax for people who don't understand the mathematics of probability. If you understand how probability works,  you can't ever rationally gamble. The only reason you would gamble is if you decided, "I am going to lose money; the fun I have while I am losing money is worth it." "I am paying a fee for temporary fun." But most people cannot do that. Once you become drawn into the game, the gambling process triggers these responses. You start getting confirmation bias, selection bias, and survivor bias. These are known cognitive biases. The person who wins thinks they were lucky, but they don't think about all the times they lost. As you are doing this, it is triggering your dopamine centers.

I agree with most of these statements. Another thing that contributes to the gambling addiction is a variation of the "sunk cost fallacy" or when a gambler starts "chasing loses". The gambler loses a big amount and he believes that luck will somehow return to him and he will magically get back all his loses and even get some profits. This is pretty close to delusional behavior.
I've always wondered why lottery is being called "a tax for the stupid" while nobody is calling gambling a "tax for the stupid". Grin
Maybe gambling should be called "tax for the delusional". That doesn't mean that I'm anti-gambling. Gambling games exist for centuries and they will never cease to exist. The people should play gambling games, if they find fun and excitement, but they should gamble moderately and with caution.
423  Economy / Gambling / Re: Does anyone find the spate of online casinos a bit uninspired? on: December 14, 2023, 11:16:03 AM
A lot of them seem to be hastily assembled clone sites with very little effort put in and gimmicky marketing. Do you guys have any thoughts on this... plague?

Every type of marketing is more or less "gimmicky". Grin Can you tell us what type of marketing/promotion do you consider to be the opposite of "gimmicky"? The bonus/referral programs offered by most casinos are pretty much the only way to attract gamblers nowadays.
The web design of an online casino cannot be improved any further. The online casino games cannot be "upgraded" by adding something new and exciting.
I agree with your point, that most crypto casinos looks pretty much the same, but I don't know how any crypto casino could look different than the successful online fiat casinos.
424  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who should quit, and why? on: December 14, 2023, 06:52:46 AM
Hey house someone need a few clips here, don't know if a post of this exact nature has been discussed though.

In a situation where the both spouse are gamblers. Husband gambles, wife gambles, how can both of them manage the situation in terms of finance and the family affairs especially when children are now involve so that the time both spends on gambling doesn't affect family moments and affairs in general.

Would it help if  one of the couple quit for the other and if that's the case who should quit for who.

The best solution would be both to quit gambling. If that doesn't work out, a divorce is solution number 2(even though this won't solve their gambling problems). The kids should be taken away by the authorities(for a while). The friends and parents of both the man and the woman should intervene and talk with them about their problem. I know that this isn't very common and most families try to keep their gambling habits a secret, but there's no other way around.
I don't think that the question "who should quit for who?" is competent. The first one quitting and the other one continuing with his gambling addiction won't solve anything.
425  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is the only currency that has grown the most!! on: December 13, 2023, 12:19:28 PM
Present, there are many altcoins in the crypto market and they have grown a lot. But it has gone down and gone again, but Bitcoin is the only currency that hasn't gone down yet, instead it's going up. I've noticed that Bitcoin has grown the most over the past couple of days, but altcoins haven't grown as much in comparison. Currently, we see Bitcoin market above $44000, I think it will bring $45000 very soon. Will Bitcoin Touch $50,000 By This December?  What do you think about the way the Bitcoin market is currently growing?

Altcoins have smaller trading volumes and this leads to higher volatility. The comparison between Bitcoin and the altcoins is getting annoying at this point. Grin
I don't believe that Bitcoin will go above 44K USD or even 50K USD this December. My prediction is a price correction and going back below 40K USD. Everybody is praying for the Blackrock Bitcoin Spot ETF approval, but I'm not a big optimist about this ETF being approved.
Bitcoin isn't going down yet, because the army of Bitcoin HODLers and believers is still strong and they will keep their BTC for several weeks, hoping for another price pump. The altcoins don't have such big and dedicated communities of HODLers supporting them.
426  Economy / Economics / Re: Sea Piracy, it's effect on the local economy on: December 13, 2023, 11:43:36 AM
In the world of transportation, air and sea shipping are vitally important. However, while air shipping is used for its speed, sea shipping is chosen for the amount of cargo it can carry. One recent issue troubling sailors is sea piracy, especially in regions around countries like Somalia, Djibouti, and Kenya. Vessels are hijacked, entire crews are kidnapped, and they are held for ransom for months or even years. In some interviews with pirates, they claim that the lack of job opportunities led them to piracy, while others assert that former fishermen turned to piracy due to the impact of ships on fishing.

I am here to ask if anyone has considered this. We always have a choice. Piracy cannot be the sole option for personal economic growth unless it significantly contributes to the economy of these countries. It brings in quick and substantial money for the pirates, who then spend the money in their local economy. It functions as a wealth distribution system. Even people in these places might not want piracy to end because of the indirect benefits on their local economy. Do you think I am correct here?

The current cases of ship hijacking have little to do with the economic/financial impact of piracy. The Yemen rebels also known as the Houthi are kidnapping ships, that are owned by Israeli businessmen, because of the conflict in Gaza. This is more related to politics rather than economics.
I don't think that piracy contributes anything to the local economies of Somalia and Djibouti. Having an economy means having an industry, which produces goods. I don't know about those two countries producing anything whatsoever. Piracy is basically stealing money from someone else and spending them. When the money are gone, you have to steal again in order to sustain your standard of living.
427  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which one is fun, watching with bet or without a bet? on: December 13, 2023, 07:30:14 AM
Just trying to get the communities opinion based on their experience about the topic.

Personally, a a bettor, I find it very stressful when watching the game you are betting especially if it will end up a losing bet.

If we have the same experience, how do you cope up with that problem, after all, gambling should be fun but why we have this kind of feeling that we feel disappointed when our bet loses?

It depends of how big the bet actually is. The bigger the bet, the most stressful experience you get. I don't know about any sports bettor, who would be stressed out about a 1 dollar bet. Grin If you bet your life savings on a single football match, the stress level would probably hit the roof.
Sports betting is fun, but in a different way, in comparison to the traditional casino games. I don't know how to describe it. In traditional casino games(for example poker) you are the one, who is playing the game and making decisions. This is what creates the fun experience. While in sports betting, you have to analyze your team(or athlete), place your bet and just wait for the end result. This is a more passive experience, in comparison to the active casino gambling experience.
428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is wiser? on: December 13, 2023, 06:54:49 AM
At the current market condition and having bull run in mind, these persons have $10,000 to invest.

  • Mr. Bob goes 100% with bitcoin.
  • Miss Alice goes 50% bitcoin and 50% random altcoins.
  • Mr. theymos goes with bitcoin but $100 weekly DCA.

1.It depends for how long Mr.Bob is willing to HODL his 10K USD worth of BTC. Will Mr.Bob panic and sell everything at the first significant BTC price crash? Can Mr. Bob afford to lose those 10K USD? If he can't afford to lose those money, his mindset will be different.
2.The 50% Bitcoin and 50% altcoins model isn't actual diversification, because all altcoins are simply following the Bitcoin price trends.
3.DCA is a less risky method and I recommend it to all Bitcoin noobs, who want to start investing in BTC.
429  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mixers - Are we the product? on: December 12, 2023, 01:02:56 PM
Quote
What's the point then, of using a mixer, when your funds can be traced so easily? Do its methods of mixing really work, or could it be that this is intended functionality for someone to get the short end of the stick?

This is all just a theory of course, but honestly, trust no one, not even me.
It's a very real possibility though, that with mixers, we might be the product.

I've always asked myself the same question during the last few years.
I mean, we have private altcoins like Monero. What's the point of using a BTC mixer then? Can't the people, who want to hide the origin of their wealth just dump BTC mixers completely and use privacy altcoins? I also believe in the conspiracy theory that CIA has control over some of the BTC mixers, so it can easily track the movement of illegal BTC funds.
I don't agree about your theory that "we are the product". What do you mean by "we"? I have never used a BTC mixer in my entire life.
I have only participated in a signature campaign launched by a BTC mixer two years ago. The people, who are actively using BTC mixers are "the product", not me.

Perhaps crypto tokens and coins have a role to play here in subsidizing solutions to climate change.

I can see that you have a sense of humor. Grin
I guess that the process of global warming will make huge regions in countries like Russia and Canada more suitable for living, so all the climate refugees from the coastal areas could just move to Russia, Canada or Kazakhstan. Those three countries have plenty of space and a relatively small population. I'm joking, but I might be right in the end. Grin
Ice melting in Antarctica and Arctica cannot be stopped at this point. All the policies for reducing CO2 emissions won't change anything.
By the way, do you have any plans of launching some "Antarctica coin" or "Doomsday glacier token"? Grin
431  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: December 12, 2023, 07:53:44 AM
I hear rumors about Zlatan Ibrahimovic becoming a coach of AC Milan and replacing the current AC Milan coach. Is this true?
Ibrahimovic doesn't have any experience as a coach and such experiment would be extremely risky. I remember other AC Milan legends like Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso being appointed in this position, but they failed and AC Milan was in a crisis for a long period.
My bet would be Inter winning this season of Serie A. I don't see any good competitors of Inter. Maybe Juventus is the only team, that can challenge the dominance of Inter, but I'm not sure about it.
432  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will we see repeat of 2017 or new trend? on: December 11, 2023, 11:50:02 AM
I hope people remember what happened in December 2017 as last quarter of 2017 we witnessed bull run and during second half of December we saw price of Bitcoin dropping down and eventually triggered bearish market for next 3 years approximately and we are going through similar stuff but this is not a full fledged bull run but still we have seen crazy pumps for some Altcoin and even Bitcoin has increased. Are we going to witness price correction or bear market now ? Or else this time it's gonna be different and Bitcoin will reach new ATH and we won't see any bearish pattern in December ?

The current price pump is definitely a bull run with FOMO phase. This is basically another price bubble. I'm sure that this price bubble will burst sooner or later and there will be another bearish season. It's normal for Bitcoin to have bull runs and bearish seasons. This won't change. You can't expect the BTC price to keep going up forever. My expectation is another big regulatory hit over the Bitcoin/crypto world in 2024. The central banks/governments will try to push their CBDC projects further, so they will do everything they can to smash the cryptocurrency world with more regulations and bans.

1. The world economy and population has not yet everywhere moved away from the covid and events of 2022, and ... a new global pandemic awaits us ?  Your opinion - what and how to prepare for ?
2. Can anyone from China confirm or deny this news ?

It's pretty normal to have high levels of flu around the people during the fall and winter. There will be a flu epidemic in my country in the next few weeks. This type of flu is targeting mostly children, so the adults might be OK.
I'm not buying this "undiagnosed respiratory decease" thing. China has lots of well educated and well prepared scientists and doctors.
I don't believe that they can't diagnose the flu virus and they can't analyze it.
It's way too early to decide how this epidemic will go. I don't think that this will turn into another pandemic, so there's no need to spread fear and panic.
434  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you regret also for ever knowing about gambling? on: December 11, 2023, 07:52:45 AM
Yeah you read the question correctly.

I got this taught while involved in discussion with some of my friend today, it was round of friends and we were practically catching up after some old memories in high school so discussion led to discussion and the issue of regretting to ever knowing how to gamble came up and believe me it was a very serious issue as one of my friend was practically blaming the other for the whole problem is currently going through right now as he constantly gambles his money away and at what avail? was the question being asked to the friend who actually inviting him to a gambling house during highschool. The matter looks childish  at first because the whole table of friends there were all gamblers including myself but we all never reached the height of complaining or blaming someone for our gambling ethics.

So I was wondering if some folks here too feel the same way or it was just a matter of grudge and hatred for the particular fellow to stir up such arguement.

Feeling regrets for ever knowing how to gamble? Gambling is easy. I think that most of the adult people around the world know the basic rules of the simplest gambling games, like slots, roulette, dice, etc. Not knowing how to gamble would probably mean that you have low IQ points.
Blaming someone else for your own mistakes is totally childish, but unfortunately, most people always try to blame someone else for their own mistakes.
435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Selling All Fiat In Bank For BTC? on: December 11, 2023, 07:13:50 AM

So I have heard a lot of people say this.  Such that they are going to withdraw all of their money from the bank and buy BTC.  And things like will sell their car and house and possessions and all that to buy btc.  Many say they will do this and be all in with BTC so to speak.

The people can say whatever they want. I can see that you have surrounded yourself with lots of Bitcoin supporters. Grin
I can't find any people in my social circle, that are actively pro-Bitcoin and pro-crypto. I've heard more people saying that Bitcoin/crypto is a scam and it will collapse like a house of cards anytime soon. I couldn't care less about their opinions, to be honest.
Going all in on BTC is extremely risky because BTC is volatile and because the merchants, who accept BTC payments are a very small amount.
Personal finance is all about diversification and not keeping "all your eggs in one basket". Relying on one currency/financial asset is poor risk management, if you ask me.
436  Economy / Economics / Re: GDP is not really growth index or representation of economy on: December 10, 2023, 11:51:16 AM
I agree that nominal GDP isn't the one and only perfect method to measure the economy of every country, the problem is that there's no better way to measure an economy. The problem with nominal GDP is that it measures the economy based on prices. The higher the prices of everything, the better(including salaries, which represent labor prices). Higher real estate prices should mean that the real estate owners are rich, but in reality the expensive houses and apartments are one of big problems of the capitalist consumerist society.
I agree that everything is very expensive in the highly developed countries, but there's no other way around. If everything was cheap, the companies won't have enough revenue to pay big salaries, therefore the salaries would have to be lower as well.

Most of the money (70%) of the casino profits goes to a good cause (charity)

Do you really think that most of the gamblers would care about charity? I don't believe that any gambler would care about where the money he spends on a casino are going. What kind of charity projects will be financially supported by your casino? It would be nice if you support programs that are focused on fighting gambling addiction. That would be awesome. How can you provide some actual proof that 70% of the casino profits will be donated for charity? Will you post the transaction info on this announcement thread?
Why do you have a .net domain? Domains like .com and .io look more trustworthy and professional.
Good luck with this project, OP.

CBDC will bring back the Gold standard. CBDC will be backed by BTC.

How did you come up to this conclusion? Do you have any insider information from a central bank, that is willing to adopt BTC?
CBDCs will be backed by nothing and no big central bank in the world will start buying BTC with the sole purpose of using it as a reserve asset.
Western democracies are built around order and law, not around freedom. The only difference between democracies and dictatorships are that the governments elected by the people should also abide by the law, while the dictators are above the law.
I can't say anything about your conspiracy theory regarding the Blackrock Bitcoin ETF and the ordinals clogging the blockchain and pumping the transaction fees up. I don't have any proof about this weird theory.
439  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you deal with high transaction fee on BTC on gambling? on: December 08, 2023, 06:54:13 AM
I think everyone notice how high the current fee right now on Bitcoin network. I’m sure player like me that relying only on signature campaign payment in Bitcoin is having a hard time to play right now since the fee is insanely high.

How do you deal with this problem? Is there any casino that allows no confirmation to deposit? Let’s say I will send my Bitcoin using fee below average and then play while it’s still unconfirmed. I knew that some casino do have instant deposit but I never try depositing much lower fee to the average fee if they will still credit instantly.

I don't deal with it. I just use altcoins or fiat. What's the point spending BTC for gambling, when there's a possibility for the BTC price to hit another ATH? I feel that this question has been asked multiple times in the past. Asking it one more time doesn't ass anything new to the discussion. The Bitcoin transactions fees are going up and down. There will be more transaction fee ups and downs in the future. The gamblers had no problems with high BTC transaction fees in the past. I'm sure that they won't have any problems with high transaction fees in the future.
440  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 07, 2023, 11:11:57 AM
No team can maintain a top performance for a long time frame. Manchester City is no exception from this rule.
Erling Haaland had the opportunity to score a goal and equalize, but he missed it. Aston Vila plays really good and Unai Emery is a very experienced manager. Manchester United managed to win against Chelsea, but I'm not impressed by their performance. Both teams are struggling to find their style and to achieve consistency. So far, Arsenal looks like the team with best performance, but they usually start losing points during the spring. I really hope that the domination of Manchester City over the Premier League will come to an end in 2024.
