4261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 21, 2016, 12:45:14 AM
I still don't understand why ETH is helping a 3rd party software team to recover funds THEY lost due to lack of testing/unit testing

This tells me 1 thing.. ETH considers the marketcap of their project to be more important than adoption/principals of their platform, simple really

This decision is entirely based on money, yes money, fiat, that thing we are trying to replace with crypto is swaying the decisions of crypto now.

Everyone seem to be mentioning how much $USD they lost, how much BTC they lost or will lose, no one seems concerned that ETH is the first crypto to implement blacklists

Will the blacklists stop at transaction(s), or will it extent to addresses, countries, ip's, political parties???

ETH took BTC and turned it into FIAT, Awesome work.
I think you dont understand is that ETH is still in development and changes like this must be made now to make ETH stronger and more secure for the future.

ETH is not broken is it?, I thought DAO lost the ETH, Are you saying ETH is broken?

Tell me why ETH is involved in a 3rd party software losing ETH, why are they recovering ETH for someone that lost it, will they recover mine if I lose my ETH wallet, or do I have to have a certain % of ETH to apply for the ETH refund shceme.

If I lost my ETH, tough luck, If I lose enough ETH to impact the marketcap, rollback, hardfork and refund.

Rich get rich, poor get poorer, BankCoin
tbh im not explaining this to anyone now, its basically your opinion vs mine.
ETH is at a gd price, if you have some and are not happy...sell, goto fiat or btc or take a chance on another alt
ETH will continue doing what it feels is best for its community while in development.
By voting a fair chance is being given to everyone to decide what to do next.  http://ethpool.org/stats/votes

What is absolutely absurd is that their are people of this forum and of some stature that are siding with a thief.  This episode even if I lose all that I invested was worth to see the views of so many people.  That in itself was priceless.  make a list of all those that support the thief an those that support the community.  Speaks volumes on the character of so many people in this space.

Most are shills, im starting to see the pattern....the minority now that dont want a fork also dont care about the future on how ETH will operate under POS. They may also be from the same group/team of the attacker.

Catch the correct view with bitsmedia Russia, where I also defend the light side of the force:
"I read and was so surprised that I decided to register and add my 5 cents. In DAO almost not invest, only a few coins put in to see how tokens are awarded, so the personal interest do not have. However, reading the comments that "attacking" the genius and his need to release with three million Ethereum, I am amazed. Even more amazed by the opinion that if you make softporn or hardwork and return those coins then lost confidence in the coin, price will crash and all is lost." My opinion is opposite - if the creators of the coin will not do anything to recover stolen, then how can there be confidence in the coin? The creators of coin to take care of her and fix errors as well as possible consequences, caused by the error code. This is done all over the world in all fields. Do you think that the hacker finding the vulnerability, earned all the money he could obtain, exploiting her? It is not, and to believe so is impossible, because it is a dead end. Think, if you think so, then you cannot look for those who steal money from credit cards, those who spread viruses and botnets, those who Rob banks. They all found holes in the system, the rules created by other people and use them for personal gain. They always find flaws in systems and rules, and always will be. All programs, smart contracts, etc are created by people, they will ALWAYS be holes. No need to talk about some ideal system, they say it is a problem of the DAO that it was a hole. Holes will always and everywhere, we live in an imperfect world. Perfect code? Ask any programmer can write something more complicated calculator without a single bug, and if he has at least a few years of experience, the answer will be negative. I know whereof I speak.
So if you found a hole and took the money not belonging to you, you're a thief. Don't you agree? Then do it and then tell the court that you are not a scammer. Read the definition of the word.
If you believe that this all only applies to ethics and cryptocurrencies it doesn't have to touch - then look at the history of cryptocurrency. Them code again is created by people, and again there were, are and will be bugs. Why do developers fix them? Not to steal your money. Have to do that? Of course it is necessary. What to do if you steal still have time? You need to try to reduce the damage to return the money, as usual in this world. Why cryptocurrency needs to obey other laws? They are part of our life, our imperfect world, and so they need to employ the same centuries-old universal laws. Otherwise, time and again, hackers will with impunity, steal your money, just undermining the credibility of the cryptocurrency in General.
The cries that Vitalik will be able to do anything with the coin nonsense. About it decide Pula exchange. Some pools have voted and the results show that the majority of people are friends with the logic, consider that stolen need to be returned. This is not the collapse of the coin. This is a normal management. Decentralization does not mean that everything should be left to chance, management still should be, and it has long is, in fact, the developers manage the coin, releasing new versions, introducing new features, fixing bugs.
Read the comments that blame Vitalik, they say he's their money, and once the hacker was able to get the money they. Code people write. Bugs will always be. This is normal (unfortunately). And the one who exploits vulnerability should not take the money because he was a thief, and he took not his own. You cannot declare your taking using the vulnerability, a hole, a bug; the world is an ordinary crime.
I don't understand why there are people who think that the thief must pay what he stole, and as a lesson to strengthen control over the code. Yes usesite control as you want, there will still be bugs to find and to steal, anyway. The banking system is proof, and there write code intelligent people."
Excellent post.
I am also considering legal action, if the hacker comes forward and reveals himself.

So that Romanian guy is not the actual culprit?

He maybe, but its not 100% yet.
The hacker has said they would go to court, if they do then the identity will be revealed...if that happens then i will make my case against the hacker. Im sure there will be many more doing the same.

What? You think 0.01 is in this realm of possibility?
some point within next few months...yes

That would mean everyone with roughly 20k WAVES can sell for 200BTC, per person. I'm a realist.
within a few months very few will have 20k+waves

Why is that?
why so many dumping right now? ...panic..this will happpen many times on the journey up , coin will move to stronger hands

Last of the V8s did some amazing work on this guy.

http://log.bitcoin-assets.com/?date=30-05-2015#1148699

1 Background

Popescu grew up in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania and graduated from Avram Iancu University. He has lived in several countries including United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Egypt, where he co-authored the novel Asylum.[4]
2 Career

Popescu founded Polimedia, a Romanian enterprise resource planning firm, in 2007.[5]

He began writing Trilema in his native Romanian in late 2008.[6] Popescu began writing about Bitcoin in early 2012[7] and switched to coverage in English later that year.[8] He has since published prolifically on the topic, notably arguing for the inelasticity of the cryptocurrency amidst changes in supply and demand[9] and describing what he sees as the future of contractual agreements based on cryptographic protocols.[10] He is also outspoken about Bitcoin related scams;[11] Popescu suggested in April 2013 that since-defunct exchange MtGox was headed for failure[12] and expressed similar concerns about Labcoin in July 2013[13] before the scheme's closure.[14]

MPEx, which Popescu started in April 2012,[15] attracted initial media attention[16][17][18][19] internationally[20] following its listing of the bitcoin gambling site SatoshiDice, which sold in July 2013 for a total of over 125,000 BTC.[21][22][23]
2.1 Romanian Corruption Scandal

On July 13, 2009, the Romanian press [24] reported that Mircea Popescu had filed a complaint with the country's special prosecutor for graft and administrative fraud on the grounds that the ex-president of the Romanian Academy had spent over $1mn in public funds on a project to scan and make publicly available the notes and other materials left by the poet Mihai Eminescu, which failed to produce any usable results. The matter was not prosecuted, but Eugen Simion withdrew from public life.
2.2 OpenBSD fundraiser

The exchange's sponsorship of the operating system OpenBSD in January 2014[25][26][27][28][29][30][31] was largely seen as an unexpected rescue for the project, which Popescu said he admired for its “clamped down, security-minded approach”.[32] This came after OpenBSD's benevolent dictator Theo de Raadt warned that OpenBSD would indeed shut down if funding could not be secured. [33]
2.3 Berkshire vs. Bitcoin Bet

In March 2014 BitBet.us made headlines[34] for a 1,000 BTC bet[35] by Mircea Popescu [36] speculating that Bitcoin would prove to be a better investment than Berkshire Hathaway's BRK-A shares in a year's time.
2.4 SEC request

The same month, Popescu revealed that he had received a request to disclose details of MPEx' users and at least one security issuer from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.[37] His candid responses to the commission's request exemplify Popescu's unconventional stance on regulatory authority and sparked widespread discussion[38][39][40] of Bitcoin's relation to traditional regulatory bodies.

This seems pretty simple to me.
Decentralized crypto-currencies are all about consensus.
Vitalik suggested a hard fork rollback.
The majority seem to want it...that's consensus!

Now roll it back.

Note - I was not affected by this DAO/ETH situation.

You go into the casino and win legally 50 Million with a new technique.

Not the true story, true story:

A crew of people invest 150 Million into a new casino with all new technique, someone finds a flaw in the code and cheats out 50 Million of the casino...

What to do ? Of course roll back, fix the code, and "restart" the new technique casino...
