43341  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much GH/s to add?? on: May 12, 2014, 06:38:30 PM
ok so today's increase was 10.66 % so in theory for every 100 GH/s you are running to keep pace you need another 11 GH/s... so if your running 1 TH/s you have to increase by 110 GH/s roughly every two weeks... correct me if I'm off.

Thanks!

you are off.   10.66%    means  multiply by  1.1066

  so 100 = 110.66

then 110.66 = 122.456356

then 122.456356 = 135.510203549

but the easy way is  use bitcoin  calc

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

put in 100  for diff  put in 10% for jumps

and  you get this .  look at the diff column  it is your 100 then 110 then 121 then 133

so your hash would need to jump  that much to keep pace if jumps were exactly 10%

do 4 charts  one for 5%  one for 10 % one for 15 % and one for 20 %

most likely   the real anwers for your needed hash are in that range of jumps.

So given what we know today about the hardware.  Will the a X-3 be able to pay for itself?

Well sake of arguement 120gh at 150 watts.  calc it https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

As has been said many many times, these are not the final specs. Its a waist of time to calc numbers using that.
Says it all when the 'final specs' are not known months after the product was supposed to ship and days before they are currently saying it's shipping!

well I am in for 5 shares my fiat usd price  was  4 x 130 = 520 + 110 = 630.

will 300gh make 630 usd yes if  btc goes up.

I used fiat to purchase btc to buy shares.
43343  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Residential Hobbyist Miners: power concerns? on: May 12, 2014, 02:43:02 PM
I will chime in.  I was an audio freak. So in the 1990's I put in lots of wiring in my home. (Who knew)

I live in Howell NJ USA.  My home was built during the Vietnam War around 1971.  The USA had a copper shortage and some homes in and about the country were built with aluminum wiring not copper.  This turned out to be a big fire hazard and many home owners had to retro fit the wire to copper or use special (magic for lack of a better word) outlets that secured the aluminum wire to the out correctly.

New Jersey has the best state laws for wiring you own home..  No electrician is needed or required  as long as it is your home that you live in.  Just go to your town hall and pull the permits.

So I pulled the permits and pulled every fucking piece of shit aluminum wire out of the house. I replaced every wire with copper  and I put in 6 extra circuits for home theater and gear in the shop.

I was afraid to do any 220 wiring so only my central ac is 220.  It was the only copper wire in the house.

I did call in an electrician to pull the 100 amp service and upgrade to a 150amp service.

All my circuits use 10 gauge not 12 gauge. Over fucking kill  but when you do all the labor yourself well before copper got expensive why not.

So my garage has 6 separate circuits .  One is for the furnace /ac fan. One is for the ac compressor the only 220.

The other 4 can all be 20amp  120 volt since they are 10 gauge, but they are all 15amp breakers.

I can run  4 x 1440 = 5760 watts 24/7/365 no issues or worries.   About wire overload.  I do push to 4500 watts in the winter.  When it is hot I go down to  2400 or 2000 watts.

Right now 6 ants pulling 2400 watts hashing 1.2th  seventh one comes today.  A 12 piece gridseed & 30gh btc  in  usb sticks  pulls 180 watts.
so 2600 plus 400 when I setup my seventh will have me at 3000 watts.

I will lower that to 2000 watts when the heat is too much by undervolt and under clock.

I only buy good psu's with long warranties.

Evga 1300 watt super nova with 10 year warranty
Seasonic 1000 plat with 7 year warranty
seasonic 1200 plat with 7 year warranty
seasonic 760 plat with 7 year warranty

my cheap psu is  this

 http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=704513&fid=11

Since I am going long term

fuck the loud cheap power hunger dell server shit shock hazard garbage purchased second hand on ebay

All my gear is shock resistant and safer.
All my psu's have worth beyond mining.
All my psu's get better power ratings then the dell's

Now if you wire your gear with 220 volt  please ignore my rant about the dells as they do better with 220 volt power.
43344  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Custom Gridseed Case Build on: May 12, 2014, 11:21:23 AM
Neat...thanks for the input. Get's the gears working on new ideas Smiley

Yeah I went with brass 1/4 inch rods as the fit the grill holes and amazon had them at a decent price.
After playing with the setup I can see I could fit 24 with very easy access to the wires if I leave in the fans.

I have yet to   remove fans but I could fit 32 if I did.  of course if you have a wider bench you can do  3 foot or 4 foot rods  you just need to add  1 more grill for support.

Stainless steel rods would be nicer if you can get 2 foot ones.

I have to test a 5/16 inch rod .

3/8 inch do not fit the grill.

My goal was a tool free build that works. I think I did that.
43345  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Silent Fan for Antminer S1 on: May 12, 2014, 11:10:00 AM
underclock and undervolt.

then you do 140-150gh at 200 watts  the stock fan is pretty quiet  once it spins slowly.

this has been pretty smooth up to now.  980 to 1050 gh.  it has mine from april 20th to may 12th with 6 or six hours down time .  my 225 30 day host fee is due soon and the op has agreed to lower the fee by 5 bucks to 220 due to the 6 hour down time.

I gave op  a positive trust.  Since so far he deserves it.

Since I paid with this with paypal and time my cc to charge 1 day after the statement hit. I have paid no money out of pocket and mined for about 22 days.   Not bad  so far.

My first out  of pocket will be the 225-5 = 220 usd fee for hosting. Due on may 20th.

This sure beats a preorder I have mined about 1.33 coins so far I will be close to 1.77 coins when the first host fee is due. that fee will be 220 usd.

this buy will only make money if btc goes up in price. but most gear is like that right now.
43347  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Custom Gridseed Case Build on: May 12, 2014, 02:13:26 AM
Okay I studied all these.  I had one idea set it up it was no good. I then came up with a brass rod/ stainless steel design. on its side

Tool -less. No measuring.

can fit  30 with the fans 50 with out the fans.

3 parts are needed for the case.

brass rods

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FOYLCO/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

stainless steel barbecue grill

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008DHPC/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

stainless steel nuts.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FMUA8A/ref=oh_details_o06_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

if you use 2 foot brass rods you need 3 grills.  the brass rods  sag  without the middle grill.

as a middle aged guy  I know sagging rods are not acceptable in all walks of life.

the grills are pre drilled.    photos soon    this way did not work as wire access was terrible

turn the tower on its side   works great.
no measurements all holes pre drilled in the grills
great materials brass and stainless steel.  you do not need the white nylon spacers.  you can space the grid seeds using the stainless steel nuts.

keep the brass rods with 5 empty holes in the grill.

43348  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner Batch 4, Price changes daily, now 2529 USD for 1TH/s on: May 11, 2014, 11:25:30 PM
Since these are basically the same chips as the s1 why is it so hard to overclock these to 1.2th/s? That is only 20gh/s per board.

I would think down the road we should see better results pumping these up.

first off  you blow up the  stock psu.
so you need to pull the psu and put in one like this:

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-1300G2-ATX12V-120-G2-1300-XR/dp/B00COIZTZM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399719720&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+1300

195 usd

or thishttp://www.amazon.com/SeaSonic-ATX12V-Platinum-PLATINUM-1200-SS-1200XP3/dp/B00JG5LSN8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399719766&sr=8-1&keywords=seasonic+1200

290 usd

or this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182063

adds to the roi.

next if you one from above  and oc the gear you will overheat it. So you need to improve cooling.  pull the fans put in ones with more air movement = louder and ac the room.

so squeezing out that extra hash will cost more then it is worth.

I hope this is an isolated incident with the stock power supply. I think Enermax makes the most reliable power supplies around, I have them in everything and wouldn't buy anything else even though they cost more than similarly spec'ed units.  Never had a failure and never lose sleep worrying about my power supplies. Smiley

the psu is underpowered.  use 9 boards or buy a better power supply.  many many many stories about this psu not cutting it in this piece of gear.

New price for AntMiner S2 1 TH/s Miner Batch 4: 2494 USD each one, shipping cost included.
the price is getting closer for me to pull the trigger.  it is now   2094 USD after coupon

May I know your reasoning ?
Why not buy 6 S1 ?
I have 7 s1's

I have a friend with an office space .
So free power not stealing it either. Story is long and complicated, but 4 people split the power bill and the building.  He has paid 1/4 of the power bill for years. While spending about 5% of the power. So adding an s-2  will mean he will finally get his fair share of power.

so an s-2 with free power is very tempting. S-2 is closed cased no shock issue..  He need to upgrade his internet. They did the work on Friday and Saturday .  I am bringing one of my s-1's over and seeing if it runs well. If It does I will get an s-2 sometime this week
43349  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: GAW Miners- THE WAR MACHINE 54MH Miner!! on: May 11, 2014, 07:36:46 PM
a bit confused 1 gridseed = 333 so 3 are 999 or 1 mh   correct?

1 fury = 1 mh correct?

power is close to the same correct?

so buying 3 gridseeds at 60 each if you are a member and have room is as good as buying 1 fury at 199

or is my math off?

I ask since I decided to get 8 more gridseed's my gridseed's run at freq 850 and pull 9 watts.

So at the fury level It looks like my gridseed buy coming on monday was better for me.

Am I correct or do I have a math issue?

the black widow gets 13 mh at 320 watts +- 10%

so if it gets 13mh at 352watts

my 30 gridseeds got 10.2mh at 292 watts

So the black widow is about 28 watts a mh

and my 30 gridseed setup is  about 28mh.

now if I order 30 gridseeds at 60 each I am at 1800 usd  and I earn 18000  points getting me  like 1 more gridseed.

this gear is all close to 28-30 watts an mh

So basically gridseeds at 60 each are close to tied (value wise) with the fury and the black widow.

looks like i need to go up to the step up the falcon to get a price gain.

or continue buying 5 gridseeds at 300 for all 5.
43350  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: When to underclock my s-1. June 1st , July 1st?? on: May 11, 2014, 07:11:04 PM
depends on at least 3 factors:

1) electricity cost: if you pay >$0.20/kWh you will be underclocking a few weeks sooner than those paying <$0.15/kWh
2) temerature and electrical capacity: if your place is getting too hot it may make sense to undervolt a little bit to reduce the power used and thus temperatures
3) your short-term and long-term views of USD/BTC.  If you expect us to sit around $400-600/BTC for the next 6+ months then you will underclock sooner (at a loss of hashrate) than those who expect it to go to $1000 or higher and thus justify the higher power costs to produce the maximum BTC possible

1) is true

2) is true-------------I can do 2000 summer watts and manage the cooling. I can do 4000 winter watts.

3) really complex   difficult to agree or disagree.  a lot of factors to take into account .

My numbers used will vary from miner to miner but the side by side comparison technique of bitcoin wisdoms calculator will help you ballpark.
43351  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / When to underclock my s-1. June 1st , July 1st?? on: May 11, 2014, 04:34:32 PM
A few people have asked me to show them how to know when to underclock/undervolt

an s-1 to max fiat profit.

the current thread on how to do it.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=526060.0

This does not factor your heating and cooling only fiat profit

I used this calculator

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

Here is a side by side screen shot of when to determine the time to under clock

If you look at the side by side .

  you see I did 7 s-1's

one at overclock    1400gh and 2800 watts

the other at under-v /under-c        1050gh and 1400watts.

I used my summer power  rates of 18 cents a k-watt I used 15% diff jumps and 432 usd a btc.

If you look down the side by side charts  you can see the time to do the switch is right after June 20th

june 20th  with under-v/under-c the after power fiat profit is   161.20
july 3rd     with under-v/under-c the after power fiat profit is   129.90

june 20th with 393 over clock  the after power fiat profit is     162.50
july 3rd    with 393 over clock  the after power fiat profit is     120.70

Of course   power cost will vary, diff varies, btc price varies.

This is still the method to determine when to lower clock and voltage.  You will need to plug in your numbers at each diff jump to be perfect but the side by method of calculator will show you the correct answer.

How do I add a picture?  Huh

Thank you for this! 3.5kohm 150gh 213 watts at wall  . going to try for 5 ants on 1 psu  evga 1300

did you ever get to this?

I have 7 ants  looking to down clock and down volt.

 I have an evga 1300 and a seasonic 1000  they run 3 & 2 overclocked right now.

I have another seasonic doing the other 2.

I am at 1200gh and 2400 watts.   7 with your numbers

would be 1050gh and 1400 watts

yes, even better  3.4 kohm getting 155ghs @ 200 watts. the evga is working great with 5 ants on it

Nice!!!

@philipma  I'm actually at 1700ghs and 2200 watts, one more ant on the way this week  cant beat .45 btc for this performance! Even sp cant touch  it

That is impressive.

I have everything ready to start, but they are still making money running 1.4th at 2800 watts.

Getting too hot so I will need to change to the undervolt soon.

I can not complain  as they still make money overclocked until we get to 20 diff.

As has been said many many times, these are not the final specs. Its a waist of time to calc numbers using that.

worst case is always best to know. and  at those numbers roi can still be close.   they come to  1.2 watts a gh

I  factored out power cost and or hosting fees,    below I have 5 shares with boost maybe 60gh a share total 300gh cost was 650usd.

there is a possible roi with slow growth of 10% and flat btc price.  I could put 20 calcs that show roi can happen even with the power at 1.2 watts per gh..

to say roi will happen Who knows.  to say it won't happen who knows.

43358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Reward FOR answers] 50TH S1 Farm on: May 11, 2014, 01:12:56 AM
I see 2 panels with 8 breakout wires each.

 so a 200 amp panel divide by 8 = 25amps a wire.

the white box says 230 volts…  So what do you have in  each of the gray boxes 230 volts at 200 amps?

if you do and each breakout is on a 25 amp breaker what gauge is that wire.  12 or 10?  I hope not 14.

As those breakout wires look like 12 gauge to me.

The other panel is on the other side out of shot.   The 230V box was for a screw air compressor that is no longer in service.  I used the 2 X 120V lines to make 220V for one of the 200amp boxes.  The 208V stinger is not being used.  I had the whips made - They are 10 gauge.

you are fine with 10 gauge.  no worries with overheating the breakout wires.

to psjw4450

the wirework he did will last 20 years.  so roi becomes different.  Also remember tax laws vary and this is a longterm capital improvement.

his warehouse may use s-1's for a while and he may decide to be a hosting service.   The s-1's  would be a way to learn how to do a hosting service. So s-1 roi is meh  but gets written off a bit as an expense.

If I recall he has 7.5 cents  a k-watt for power.  he may be a great hoster in 3 to 6 months time.  lets say oct 1st.  he can ramp up to many units and host them.

 I would love to have 5 or 6 sp10's running at 7.5 cents a k-watt. or better yet run 2 sp30's at 7.5 cents a kwatt.
