441  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Where to purchase bitcoin to avoid being a victim of fraud on: August 31, 2023, 09:15:56 AM
If you don't mind submitting your documents to verify your identity, then there are plenty of reputable platforms that you can deal with directly. You didn't mention where you're from but you can look into the following ones (UK, US, or EU): Coinbase, Bitfinex, Kraken.
442  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Binance removing support for BUSD on: August 31, 2023, 08:46:53 AM
Well, this was inevitable. Since the whole SEC thing started, the token's marketcap has only been going down[1] but as mentioned above, it looks like Binance has already found their new favorite stablecoin:

In its statement, Binance said it is encouraging users to trade or convert their BUSD balances for First Digital USD (FDUSD) — a stablecoin launched in June by the Hong Kong-based trust company First Digital Group which had its debut listing on Binance in late July.

Pretty much all of its trading volume is coming from Binance[2]

I remember making a topic about this a couple of years ago. I thought that the biometric lock was actually encrypting the wallet. Apparently it doesn't, it just protect the app on a UI level. Regardless, biometrics are probably  not the way to go by it. My advice here would be to just set a good password.

444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [JUST IN] Grayscale wins lawsuit against the SEC on: August 29, 2023, 02:46:47 PM
In case you're wondering why you're receiving notifications from your portfolio apps, it's because Grayscale just won its lawsuit against the SEC which first rejected the conversion of Grayscale's Bitcoin Trust into a Spot ETF[1]. So we might see the first Spot ETF in the U.S soon[2]

-snip-

I'm not sure I understand your request anymore. If your goal is to keep an eye on your wallet's balance at all times even when you don't have access to your device, then follow what I said in my previous post. If you want to see your balance in Ledger Live, then their desktop app already shows that. Doesn't it?
446  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best nonKYC exchange? on: August 29, 2023, 08:15:26 AM
The exchange used to be called BitMAX. AscendEX is not the most attractive exchange due to very expensive withdrawal fees.

Something else that's worth mentioning is that the exchange has certain restrictions on who can register (based on the IP address). Obviously, you can use a VPN and bypass that, but I wouldn't recommend doing that just in case they take that as suspicious activity.
447  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How To Check How Much BTC in each BTC Address in Nano Ledger S Plus? on: August 29, 2023, 07:42:18 AM
You could use your master public key for that. I don't know if there are block explorers that support that (nor would I recommend doing that), but if you want to keep an eye on your Ledger's balance at all times, grab[1] your Master public key and import it to your Bluewallet (mobile app).

448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Testnet faucet on: August 27, 2023, 07:11:10 PM
Thank you for this valuable information. Honestly, I had not heard of this network before, and I am sure that many others did not, due to the absence of discussions about it. And after I checked this network, I saw that it is important not only for developers but also for beginners to learn the basics of using the main network Ethereum.

On this basis, I intend to create a topic in my local section that talks in detail about the Ethereum testnet, its benefits, and how to use it. All I need is more time to try out all the features and evaluate them properly. If you have any other useful links, please feel free to share them with me here.

You can start from here, there's a list of Ethereum's testnets, and a few articles for each:

https://www.alchemy.com/list-of/testnets-on-ethereum

As mentioned by @EFS. You may want to stick to Sepolia.

If you want to play around with it, you can use the faucet above to get some ETH and then head to Uniswap -> Link your MetaMask and then change the network to Sepolia (it should be there by default, you don't have to add it as you normally would for the other EVM-compatible chains).
449  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best nonKYC exchange? on: August 27, 2023, 05:59:28 PM
I was explained that the user who agrees to provide their documents for registration on the exchange does not know the name of the exchange. To do this, you need to take a passport photo and a photo with a passport.
-snip-

Okay, I see what you mean but this might become an issue for the seller. If the seller is not doing the verification himself, how can he trust that the buyer is actually using the documents for an exchange, and not something else which could harm him?

Also, this method may not work with all of the exchanges out there. AFAIK, Some of them do require live selfies or even pictures with you holding a piece of paper with the current date and the exchange's name on it.
450  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best nonKYC exchange? on: August 26, 2023, 08:04:33 PM
And why should you look for an alternative if you are already used to Kucoin? You have not tried to pay another person to pass KYC on the Kucoin exchange.
It is safer to trade on the exchange on an account with KYC. I heard that soon all exchanges will force users to provide their documents. And it makes no sense for you to constantly change the exchange for trading.

OP doesn't want to verify his identity. As for your advice (assuming I understood you correctly) then that's something he definitely should stay away from. Let's say he pays someone to verify his account for him, what happens later when that person decides to contact Kucoin and tell them he has an account with them, but he can no longer access it because he lost his email, password, and 2FA? They will most likely freeze the account, and ask him to re-submit his documents. OP will obviously fail to provide these documents because it's not his identity, and the seller could then use his documents once again, gain access to the account and steal the funds.
451  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Save in Stable Coin Or Save in Local Currency? on: August 26, 2023, 11:16:38 AM
I think there are a lot of factors to consider here:

- The country you're from
- Whether your bank is crypto-friendly or not
- The amount of money you're storing

If say you're storing a large amount, and the bank is not very crypto-friendly, do you really want to keep your money in the bank and then buy crypto all at once when it's "the right time" for you and risk having your transactions blocked, and possibly your account frozen?

If your country's economy is not doing well, do you really want to keep it at the bank in your local currency?

But this is not to say that stablecoins are safe. If anything, it's the opposite and we've seen that multiple times in the last few months with different projects: USDC, Terra's USD, DAI, de-pegging (even if it's for a small period of time).
452  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Dauer einer BTC Transaktion on: August 25, 2023, 04:31:07 PM
It would be better if you could move this to the German local board. See the bottom left "Move topic".

But from my understanding (using Google Translate). If the sender is saying that he sent the funds, then the only way to confirm would be for him to give you the transaction ID. Or, you can look for your address on Blockchain.com and see for yourself, if you have any unconfirmed transactions.
453  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [List] Gift cards providers on: August 25, 2023, 03:21:19 PM
It's strange that I am getting 404 Not Found error on first link you posted, but I can find them and open on their main page  Tongue

I think I saw other services offering e-sim cards for Bitcoin and other crypto (for example silent.link), so this is nothing special for Bitrefill.

They must've removed the page. The link was working just fine when I posted it.

Some competition is always good, I guess. Have you tried Silent.link before? There's also eSimWay which I made a thread about a couple of days ago if you want to look into it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5464321.0;topicseen
454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Testnet faucet on: August 25, 2023, 09:19:51 AM
This is an interesting topic. It's the first time I hear about faucets for testnet tokens on Ethereum.
I would like to ask, is this a developer tool? Or what might be the benefit of it? I understand that it can help with training in reacting with the Ethereum network, but how can it be employed with the rest of the smart contracts that are developed on the EVM? Know like tokens, Defi and NFTs.

I tried to use sepoliafaucet, but it asks to register an account using an email, which I do not find a clear reason for, as i don't understand the procedures yet. Are there mining process on this testnet? And who is responsible for it?

Cheers,

The faucet is mainly used for testing. It's no different than the Bitcoin testnet network. If you're developing a new service (exchange, wallet, etc.) you don't want to use (or your users) real BTC or ETH. That's where these faucets come into play. So yes, you can interact with smart contracts just like you would with the main network.

As for your second question, SepoliaFaucet is run by Alchemy (a very well-known company) in the Web3 space that provides APIs and SDKs for EVM-compatible chains. I would imagine that the main purpose of the faucet is to make life easier for developers building using their tools so it makes sense for them to ask users to link their Alchemy accounts.

I don't believe there's any mining process involved either since ETH is now Proof-of-stake. The mining referred to above might be just set by that specific website, in order to stop people from spamming the faucet and draining it (it's just a guess though).
455  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Telegram and it's misue for scammers. on: August 25, 2023, 08:33:05 AM
I think the thing that could help people from getting scammed is your privacy settings:

1. Don't allow anyone to add you to groups/channels except for your own contacts, or nobody at all. I have been in real groups before, only to get added later to another one that looks exactly the same as the first one (with the same picture, and almost the same number of subscribers).
2. If possible, don't set a username. AFAIK, if you don't have one set, no one can message you.

I would also imagine that scammers don't want to spend any money, so maybe an animated avatar + custom emoji using Telegram Premium would help you protect the users of your channel to a certain degree.
456  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [LIST] Wallets supporting Taproot on: August 25, 2023, 07:18:53 AM
I do not understand what you mean. But if asking that Samourai is supporting pay-to-taproot? Samourai supports legacy, nested segwit and native segwit addresses, but not yet supporting pay-to-taproot.

I think what he's saying is that the only wallet he managed to sweep funds with from a taproot address, is Samourai wallet and according to the wallet's site, it should be possible to send funds to this type of address[1]. You can't generate them though.

So it looks like Binance will no longer be offering their card to residents of Latin America and the Middle East. The users will have until the 21st of September when the cards stop working.

458  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: i'm aware to do kyc on Crypto project on: August 24, 2023, 05:45:51 AM
Arent IDOs made on exchanges like Bybit, and Kucoin? Although I know some of them require identity verification (probably to make sure that no one is cheating the system) I don't believe that the data is shared with the projects.

Now if you're referring to other platforms, then it's probably better to stick to exchanges you already have an account with. You don't want to just submit your documents to every platform out there. Besides, any big project will more than likely end up in one of these exchanges.

But if you're concerned about your identity (and you should be) then it's probably best to avoid KYC platforms alltogether..
459  Economy / Service Discussion / Tornado cash founders charged with money laundering/sanctions violations on: August 23, 2023, 06:48:27 PM
So you probably have heard that one of Tornado's Cash developers was arrested last year by the Dutch authorities[1] and was later released (under surveillance) while waiting for his trial.[2]

Today, two of the founders of the same mixer have been charged (one arrested) by the U.S department of justice with:

In a Wednesday indictment, the feds alleged that Roman Storm and Roman Semenov laundered more than $1 billion in criminal proceeds, and charged them with conspiracy to commit money laundering, sanctions violations, and conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business.

You probably heard about Biterfill offering eSims before. This service does just that, the only difference is that this one seems to offer virtual numbers as well.

I came across it through Binance's merchants page[1] and while searching I found that they also have an announcement thread here[2] so I just want to hear some of your thoughts about it if you've used it already.
