Dont waste your time, If your making less then 100MHash/s your losing money.

Unless, of course, he keeps his Bitcents and the price of Bitcoin skyrockets to $xxx or $x,xxx or $xx,xxx.  But then again, buying is so much easier, and spending is the American way.

4443  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Resting Your Video Card on: August 05, 2011, 08:16:33 PM
Most of these tips are bogus. In fact there are arguments that hardware is happier when it can "settle" into a consistent routine, a single constant(ish) temperature and run speed becomes easier on physical parts than spin-ups and spin-downs.

Where did this theory come from? Dude, resting your hardware is the best thing for its health.
Spin that bitch down and reap the rewards.

It's for the same reason you'd rather buy a car with 150,000 miles that's used only for long-distance highway driving than buying a car with 75,000 miles that's only used for city driving with lots of stops and starts.  When fast-moving parts constantly adjust speed and temperature, things move out of place and materials suffer weaknesses due to frequent changes in temperature.

To eliminate all bees you must find the inverse of bee, which is proportionally related to their rate of beeceleration.  So... 1/bee=(vf-vi)/t + honey where honey = sweet and is the least common beenominator...
4445  Other / Meta / Re: New Idea for "Vendors" Subforum on: August 05, 2011, 06:13:00 PM
You mean an overview of vendors? Lorna Morgan is working on a site for this,  http://payco.in/

It's still a bit in its early stages but it also allows ranking and posting reviews, which can be very important as trust is still an issue, and it's better structured than another forum subforum.

Thanks for mentioning it here John  Smiley

My http://payco.in site allows users to set up their own group of sites that they keep up to date, plus as John said users can rate and review the sites.

I can also add new administrators as the site gets "heavier" to help out. At the moment it's just me. [and I've got 2 day jobs too  Wink]

I can offer anyone that can add 20 or more new links to the site the opportunity to help administer the site if that's incentive enough ...

http://payco.in/account.php?r=register

Any other comments, issues, ideas, etc?

This looks great.  I think that when completed, you site should be given a primary focus on this forum.  However, my concern is still that there are still too many broad categories to really catch a customer's attention.

When you walk into a mall, you want to buy products.  If you don't know your way around the mall, you stop at one of those mall directories and see the shops listed under each product category.  Your site, while also needed, is still a bit more in depth, and I think that maybe some of the categories overlap.  For example "health products," " gadgets," and "adults" could all be included under the "retail and shops (web)" category.

When I want to spend my BTC, I want to window shop from store to store as if I were strolling along, walking past each one.  When I'm in the mall, I also know which stores are the most exclusive and which ones offer the bargains.  What I am saying is, while your site's overall depth of coverage is needed and that everyone on this forum should be directed to it upon its completion, I think that a subforum focusing specifically on products and products only would gather immediate attention.  Maybe there is a way where the coding on this subforum only could be written such that poll results automatically rank and reorganize vendor threads?  I'm not sure.  I just know this forum seems like the main hub for Bitcoin users, and having a 'virtual mall' as close to the hub (e.g. a metropolitan city) as possible seems like it would get the most attention.

Edit:  Think of the "goods" section in marketplace but filtered so that individual offers are filtered out and the remaining businesses are ranked under specific product categories.

By the way, Bitcoin Venture Capital needs a slight modification on the homepage.  It says "Why work for something guaranteed these guys" and then "When you for something guaranteed by this?"  Please change the first one to read "BY these guys"....otherwise it's just a little ironic.   Cheesy

Smiley Thanks for catching that.  I can't believe how long that's been up there without anyone noticing. I should have employed a proofreader and paid them in bitcoin.

I'm for sale...

Haha get in line, I've proved my usefulness  Cool  Rock paper scissors, best 2 out of 3.

I can meet btcvc at U Village, Lincoln Square or any of the hundreds of Starbuck's in the greater Seattle area to discuss face to face.

Also, should be:
I've proved my usefulness.

Periods still count, ya know.

The smiley face is a very large period.  By itself, a smiley face would not be a complete sentence  Cool

I'd suggest spacing out your proposal into paragraphs.... I'm interested in the idea (from what I read in the title), but can't bring myself to try and read that wall of text.  A little bit of formatting goes a long way.

Haha, one paragraph = a wall of text?  It was like 9 sentences lol.   If you say so  Grin  Fixed it for you.

It was like 15 lines of text all in a row, makes it a little tricky to read through.

Though it is a good idea, it would need to be heavily moderated to have it done how you said.  Keeping things on track would be crucial for it to work properly.  If that can be done, then I think it's a great idea.

Agreed.  There would need to be constant updates on the polls and rankings so that those vendors with the highest rankings would be given greatest visibility (e.g. placement at the top of their thread category).  As an incentive, perhaps each vendor could donate a small amount of BTC each month to the admins to be included in this subforum (can you say exclusivity?  Grin ).  This would give the admins an incentive to consistently update the thread (say, once a day per admin).  Or, the community could pitch in.  I would gladly donate a small portion of BTC along with other community members if it meant significant growth in infrastructure.

Bitcoin Venture Capital has been actively working to try to cultivate BTC based businesses that sell real goods online. We have an abundance of startup ideas and potential investors, but are always actively seeking new businesses based in BTC.

Beautiful.  Keep up the work!!  If there is any way I can help, let me know!

4456  Other / Meta / New Idea for "Vendors" Subforum on: August 05, 2011, 02:48:12 AM
Hi,  I'd like to humbly propose an idea for a new 'vendors' subforum.  I know that vendors announce new sites in other subforums like the marketplace and project development subforums, but we've reached what I believe is a critical point where, in addition to the brilliant idea to add a security subforum, we need a subforum that focuses explicitly on established vendors by category.  Why?  Because Bitcoin DESPERATELY needs infrastructure growth.  I know the Bitcoin Wiki has something similar, but I think we need something like that on this forum.  For example, click on 'Vendors' subforum, and you can then click on specific item threads such as "food," "clothing," "technology," "precious metals," etc. which would then include all vendors selling products pertaining to that category.

The idea is basically to create a subforum that acts as a virtual mall, where you can stroll from store to store and gaze at the myriad items you can buy with your BTC.  The inclusion of polls relating to each vendor may also help as to allow customers to rate their experience of shopping as it relates to their perceived level of security, site layout, product selection, etc.  These polls could help to establish a general ranking system for each vendor in each product category.  Then, a forum member may glance at these rankings, see that so-and-so's site is ranked the highest in that category, and be encouraged to shop there.

This would help promote competition in the marketplace which is a VERY good thing.  Competition will lead vendors to strive for maximum security and, in general, maximum utility for their customers.  This subforum would therefore require a lot of maintenance and upkeep by admins, but I think in general it would be a wonderful step for the growth of Bitcoin infrastructure.  As it stands, I think the marketplace subforum is frankly too large to sift through to find any one site in particular and know how that site stacks up against others.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
4457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin by the stats on: August 05, 2011, 02:29:51 AM
I'm not losing faith,  but we as a community have to work together..  support people that try to start bitcoin ventures...  promote them.. etc etc...

Absolutely.  People need to start spending BTC more regularly on everyday items and perishables (e.g. buy some TP to go with that mac 'n cheese then brush your teeth with Bitcoin toothpaste).  We need stable vendors who offer same-as-market prices including shipping.  If people can buy the same market items they normally do with BTC at greater convenience (i.e. in less time and the products arrive at your doorstep), this will increase demand.  People will have an incentive to buy BTC at market value at the exchanges and immediately use them because it makes life easier.  There won't be so much immediate emphasis on trying to be like an early adopter.  Seriously, how many people are praying the market tanks so they get that 2nd chance at glory?  We need STABILITY in everything -- stability in security, stability in growth, stability in value.  Think of systems theory and the importance of homeostasis and balance.

Edit:  See www.bitmunchies.com for a beautiful example of what the Bitcoin community needs more of.

I've been having the same psychological dilemma.  So, I'm doing a test.  I stuck a piece of tape to my computer and wrote things on it like "000000000000000000000000000000000000000" and "50 BTC" and "Solo Solo Solo Solo" to try to kick it's ass in gear  Cheesy
4459  Economy / Speculation / Re: A lot of bad news recently for bitcoin, IMO it is going to start to hurt. on: August 04, 2011, 09:58:45 PM
Well, I agree with your idea that prices are hurt by bad press. What I meant about those examples not be bitcoin problem is that they are not flaws in the fundamentals of bitcoin.  Scammers, shady or unprofessional websites, market manipulation, those are problems with people, not bitcoin.
If SHA-256 were broken, now that would be a flaw.

The problem is that Bitcoin is only as good as the people using it.  It can't exist by itself in a vacuum.  While we as techies/geeks may write off the human component and market stuff as less important than the "fundamentals", they are just as essential to its success as the client, network, and crypto are.  Too many of these incidents (and they're getting worse as more people get involved and centralize more) may sour the public on the whole idea and drive them away for good.

It's like high school all over again, isn't it?
