Very interesting Marie-Lynn!

I still beleive that in order to make it easier for new adopters(think of the average Joe or Monsieur, Madame tout le monde) to acquire QBC, there should be way to buy it easily.
Going throught Virwox/Linden Dollars seems to be time consuming for our friend Joe...
I'll check out your next blog post.  Smiley

It'll be hard to find easier than VaultOfSatoshi, or Carvitex (I assume, haven't tried Carvitex). As I said before, the verification process seems terrible at first sight. I myself heard of VoS back in November, made an account, saw all the requirements - and turned it down. Bought mining hardware instead.

But I went back early in April and took the challenge. With my SAAQ drivers license, my Credit Card, a and a void cheque, I had my account set and verified to level 3. Took me about 1 hours of scanning, uploading and forms filling. I was ready the next day. Now all it takes is an e-mail and 3-5 business days to withdraw directly from my bank account.

Quote
Level 3 Account
Fiat deposits and withdrawals are limited to $15,000.00 per week for the first month of verification, $30,000.00 per week for the second month, and $60,000.00 per week for subsequent months

Lower level of verified offer lesser amount for deposits/withdrawals, but require less form filling and scanning.

I don’t think we’ll see an easier way to buy decent amount for crypto-currencies with fiat anytime soon – charge back is a bitch. If a new trading platform opened up and offered direct CAD > QBC, they would most likely require the same level of identification and verification. As far as my understanding goes, when you process Fiat, you don’t want to fuck around.

I learned recently that https://www.morrex.com/ is located in Sherbrook, Quebec. Based on my research, it appears this would be the only exchange based in Quebec. Yet, their website isn’t even available in French, they said it would “soon” be. That was a couple months ago.

There’s always the option to buy directly in person. And something like https://localbitcoins.com/ would probably be easier to put in place before a full blown fiat exchange. If I had the knowledge to develop such a thing, it would definitely be at the top of my list.

It would be cool to have a website where new adopters can easily buy QBC with fiat (payment by Paypal) like this one here for Doges: weselldoges.com

I used to buy some coins on Reddit, but it's way more convenient and easy to buy them on the website.

What do you guys think?

Have you tried Vault of Satoshi? The registering system seemsed terrible at first. But once your all set, transfering money from your bank to VoS is quite quick and easy.

Buying from a stranger online is a gamble. But there are a few of us honest people online.  Grin

The do mention darkcoin.
from the article:
"Pioneered by darkcoin, X11 has slowly gained traction in terms of new coin implementation. Darkcoin, along with Hirocoin and québecoin, are perhaps the most notable examples of X11 coins."

They edited it. When I red it this morning it only listed Hiro and QBC.
463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][QBC] Québecoin - X11 - DGW - (BITTREX) - Win/Mac/Linux Wallets - New on: May 16, 2014, 06:14:09 PM
Is the purpose of multipool to mine other coins and pay out with QBC? That process could increase the value of QBC.

I think QBC needs more direct mining hash to secure it. If we can find some use of QBC, eg buying syrup with it, then the price of QBC will rise, that, in turn, will attract more hashing to secure the coin.

So, the first priority is the usage of the coin.

If it's just a SHA-256 multipool then it will just harness ASIC power that wouldn't be hashing on the QBC blockchain anyways so would be a great idea, once Scrypt ASICs are larger and the majority of hash on Scrypt coins it would make sense to add Scrypt to the multipool, I would be hesitant to add scrypt to a multipool too soon as it could take away miners from the QBC blockchain.

I could see a X11 QBC multi-pool,

All this can be automated/scripted (AFAIK)

1.   Use a fancy algorithm that calculates current diff, expected diff and market value of the
various x11 coins.
2.   Make a multi-pool that automatically switch to the most profitable x11 coin.
3.   Dump the mined coins for BTC
4.   Buy QBC with the BTC
5.   Pay miners in QBC

Meanwhile:

1.   QBC slowly goes up in value and the diff drops
2.   The value/diff is good enough that QBC is at the top the x11 list.
3.   At which point every other x11 multi-pool  jump on QBC and quickly dump their QBC blocks on the market for BTC.
4.   QBC loses value and the diff goes up.
5.   Eventually the value/diff isn’t good anymore, pool jump onto the next top coin.

I'll sell you Maple syrup for Quebecoin. I'll even let you pay the shipping fees in Québecoin. Give me a PM - let make this first priority a thing.  Grin

I had some syrup two years ago in Quebec. It is too sweet for me.

If you can accept QBC for syrup, that would do enormous favour to the QBC community.

JP said he's got a buddy with an érablière (sugarbush/maplefactory?). I too have a familly member who has one, and another close relative that would love to open one on his father's property.

I'm taking notes, but as of right now there wouldn't be enough demand to make this a priority really... Syrup is expensive and heavy to ship.

I realize you (and some here) have a different sort of timescale in mind than most in the cryptoworld is used to, but delay too long and the coin will be perceived as dead. And at that point, it may not matter a whole lot what you do.

What's your definition of a "dead" coin anyway? And who would perceive it as dead?

I think you're still overlooking the point here. The ONLY way this coin would "DIE" was if the internet as we know it died. But then again, I'm sure we would work around that in a record time.

I think QBC needs more direct mining hash to secure it. If we can find some use of QBC, eg buying syrup with it, then the price of QBC will rise, that, in turn, will attract more hashing to secure the coin.

We literally have 10 before this project is up and operational. 10 god damn years. 3,693 days, 88632 hours. We're almost done with day #34, 816 hours. 0.92% there.

Just thinking about the advancement of the past 10 years...

Did anyone try to contact JP? To let him know about the activity on this thread? We need some news from him, we need him to post here what`s his activity and what direction we should follow.

I tried to get his opinion for the tool/location to gather the enthusiast. I asked him twice via twitter, and twice via e-mails. I wanted to know if he would rather create a sub-domain on QBC.io for the forum, or let the community handle that on their own. But I might of annoyed him - I had never used twitter before QBC and I didn't know what I was doing lol. I think I might of @'d him too much and he got tired of my shit.

Anyhow, he did not reply. But both Quebecoin.info and Quebecoin.org - the two domain I suggested to buy and get hosting for - are now gone. I managed to grab something else, but now I'm worried who ever got those 2 might be working on something which would spread and dilute the effort.

A fellow Quebecer who has experience offered to spend some of his time setting up a Forum/WordPress. So I went ahead and bought a domain name and host for it. But I'd feel bad wasting his precious time, only to find out someone else is working on something similar.

This is why it would have been nice to have JP’s thought.

This article really re-enforce the point I've been making. Now I wonder if there isn't more studies about the subject.

As for the maple syrup, I will guarantee that it will be shipped before May 11th (Sunday). I'll post a pic before having them sent out too.

LOL.... another pancake bites the dust Smiley

We had the first beautiful week-end in Quebec. JP probably got wasted like everyone else and forgot about it.

Remember we just got out of a rough winter, and St-Jean Baptist is right around the corner - we're all preparing for it.  Grin

Now that I re-red this... Maybe I should ask YOU the question I asked JP!
  • What, in your opinion, would be a good tool or place for the entheusiast to disucuss idea, progress and developpment of the coin?

I am not a fan of forums. However, I understand that if I suggest something out-of-the-box, it may be everybody else but me who feels lost Smiley

P2 is used by Automattic, the people who make WordPress.
This is how it works:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/the-most-awesome-wordpress-theme-you-probably-dont-know-about-p2/
http://ma.tt/2009/05/how-p2-changed-automattic/

I have installed a trial server on my own box here:
http://allium.marie-lynn.ca

Cependant, je sais pas si ça bilingue très bien. Because if we have a English only forum people will just wander in a create shit noise about the lack of bilinguism Smiley Bilinguism kills all my ambitions because it is hella expensive to implement.

I beleive Casseus1998 can get us a Word Press going as well has a forum. I never heard of Word Press before he brought it up, so I'm definitely a noob at Word Press, P2 and etc. But I can sure learn.

I tend to believe Quebecois are the main audience of this coin (duh), and that the core discussion of the coin should happen in Quebecois (French). I just want the Quebecois, the ones who swear by the French language,to respecter the English side that Quebecoin will bring. I mean the world of crypto and techno is mostly English, the readily available information is in English.

I don't feel clear ahaha, but I hope that makes sense.

I simply think its next to impossible to make a coin if you are not getting a pulse of this forum.

One of the steps of our coin launch will be to 'get the pulse from this forum'. In fact it is an official an important step of the launch of our coin because it is a 100% new concept coin. However, you have to admit that this forum has got to be the most annoying thing to read through and process. I mean I started using forums in 1991 and it took me 3 years to move on to other things and bleeehhhhh forums. Forums are so 1997. I am going to have to build a scraper/parser that format this friggin' thing into a readable threaded xml feed that shows me useful information adn questions so I can have a life and be able to address urgent questions and issues. Of course, maybe that already exists.

Now that I re-red this... Maybe I should ask YOU the question I asked JP!

I know google groups could do this very well. And I know of a tool called kerika which taps into google groups. These tools are used by Wikispeed. If you have time, read about Wikispeed.. this thing is a crazy open source project, I'm a big fan of their attitude and directions. In my opinion, both of them (G group and Kerika) had a bit of learning curve. Which could turn Québecois away, not looking deeper into it. At least when compared to the good ol' forums that every simili-tech-savvy person as used before.

As I said earlier during the launch - This whole thread reminded me why I don't hang around forums too much anymore...

I've already got the contact information of a few of the entheusiast.  Grin

If you are interested hearing/voting on the choice of the domain for a Quebecoin forum
send me PM with your e-mail.

Lets get on this, mais sans mettre la charue en avant des boeufs.

Why not a sub domain of qbc.io ?

http://forum.qbc.io

JP has not return much of my questions/inquiries about the forums, or tools to concentrate the effort and discussionS.

some of us also believe he shouldn’t have to assume what the community does, say or think.  If the forums was directly under his domain, he may have to?

If he's willing to link directly from QBC.io I'm more than willing to go with that.

I loved the idea of Quebecoin.info, but my sources told me someone has already bought that. Tongue

I wish I could express myself they way you do it. You really seem to have your "shit together". I suggest should talk with Same same, I'd read an article from you on geekbecois ;P.

I already write for http://circonference.ca Damn it is hard to write in French when I haven't sincerely learned any new French since I was 12. Maybe I can submit the French Québecoin version of this: https://twitter.com/mlrichard/status/464510388672159744

I've been there, I've red some of your stuff and I listened to one of your podcast  Wink. I really liked the style.

A french Quebecoin version wouldn't hurt that for sure! Anything will help. Talk about it in good or talk about it in bad, but talk about it.

I really liked your http://circonference.ca/2014/04/bonjour-quebecoin/ article. It would be a very good start to less “technical” QBC article – something my family would understand. But I beleive my familly isn't circonference's target adience  Cheesy.

If we managed to build a well structured “what is QBC, and how can you participate” infographic, with top level information that could be use as a pamphlet afterward that would be nice. I've been tinkering with the idea a lot, which is what I do, I just throw ideas around. I’m sure it’ll develop into something concrete at some point lol.

I think we’re about to have a forum set up where we could discuss and focus on things - I’ll pay for it if need be.

The Robert Micro and the standard «dictionnaire pour anglos» are all-but looking at me as I write this. Smiley After all, the heart of the QBC community will be in French: nothing else will do for «maîtres chez nous».

I might end up really bilingual instead of being stuck with Français «manglo»!

I was raised French and I live in French. I was never good at grammar and structure. Then I learned English by playing online games and watching TV. I found a job in English and I've been losing my French ever since. Now I'm stuck right in the middle of two language, yet master of none.

Yeah, I understand why those who still hold the coin and believe in it, write support posts. I mean, it's common sense, as they still hold the coin and negative comments may lower its value. I actually have more QBC than when I started, but it's still not much, around 200 or so coins too ... it'd be great if I could cash them out for a decent price.

But we need to be realists. The issue isn't the price even, community or support. It's simply the dev needs to be about here more, lock up the premine, do some promotion and get the coin on at least one or two other exchanges. And mail that syrup.

It’s only the beginning, but I can already smell the potential. I know there are more people that believe in this coin. And to those of you - be vocal about it! It’s much needed to counter-weight to the FUD and hate.

Sometimes supporters of a coin perceive negative comments as FUD/Trolling, but really I don't see that in this thread, surprisingly, at least not to a large degree. I guess it's because most trolls pick on more popular coins and they have an ulterior motive, namely to drive the price down, to buy in... then back off and cash out. If people were spreading FUD or Trolling, you'd see giant fonts, red text, and crazy insinuations (Quebec isn't a real place, it's made up!), repeated non-stop. Instead we just have people asking for the dev to stop in here more often.

You are right on most points. And yes, FUD might be a wrong pick to describe what's going on. It would be cooler to have him around shit-chating with us. That's fo sho.

EDIT: Hadn't red the whole post before posting lol. So JP shit-chatted back - Things just got a lot cooler.
