Sorry, wasn't paying attention, skimmed over that bit as this whole thing went from awesome to huge flop.
Should've said that I sound crazy trying to explain bitcoin to people, get the same looks you'd give to an insurance salesman. Perhaps Mr.Falkvinge was right, it's just not time for mainstream adoption.
Haha.. it's all good.. I get that look that they think I'm crazy all the time. Especially talking to a gold bug. You might as well be a purple martian. But Bitcoin isn't going to be mainstream by everyone saying "perhaps it's not ready for mainstream". Each of us need to make it happen one new Bitcoiner at at time.

My all time favorite will always be Santorum, that fucking douche bag rod nibbler, almost calling Obama a Ni&&er. My gosh that was a great day.

Agree, but that 5% fee is pretty steep for a new guy to swallow... why pay 5% for this when paypal is "free" kind of thing. I'm not knocking the suggestion, it's just that this guy wants to see how it works - he wont even let me sell him any Bitcoins... so for an introduction to bitcoin, this is complete garbage now. I can't even imagine what a total noob would do on their own trying figure it out on their own these days.

I'm trying to walk my coworker through signing up at dwolla and mtgox so he can buy some bitcoins... I gotta say, this process is a huge bucket of shit.
And none of this has been futile for me... I've successfully got 3 people at my work, within the first two weeks of me being there, to accept Bitcoins - including the mailroom guy who has already let me send two personal items, paying for my postage with Bitcoin to him.

Kinda frustrating to respond to people when they make shit up about what you say...
At what point did I say "throwing free bitcoins at them", because I distinctly recall saying "if they pay your lunch tab".

thanks for the vote of confidence. I hope this helps you promote bitcoin in your local social circles... and as for the tshirt, it's just a 1 in 20 chance... if you do win (another), you can do anything you like with it... perhaps use it for your own local bitcoin contest with your coworkers... first 5 people to load a wallet app on their phone or something gets a chance to win it from you... you guys can come up with your own fun things to do.

WHEW!! also confirmed. keys change when you reseed the .dat again.
confirmed.
How the heck is it doing that? I don't see anything in the .dat file that could be used to provide that information - unless it's coming from master_public_key... which would be bad.

Translates to: The problem was solved, I went to sign the message, then make sign to get your signature, and now it is running block. That's it that I kept saying um up. So the problem has been solved? If you need access to the private keys to import into an easier to maintain client, here is the script that will help you export the keys from your wallet.dat file: https://raw.github.com/joric/pywallet/master/pywallet.pyThen you can import your private keys to the new client.

Never been to Vietnam but I find Vietnamese chicks hot. Dude... THIS.... Spend the money and go. You will not be disappoint.. I don't know where you're from, but everyone I met there LOVED americans and want to talk to you like you're an old friend. I had such a great time riding a scooter around in the chaos, eating the food, and omg, yes, the ladies are delicious. As you say, I just need to be fully sync'd with the network, I will receive bitcoin. Can you help me fully sync'd. There are two ways to get sync'd... You must leave your client on all the time. It will connect to peers and learn of all the blocks. This will take 1-2 days if you're just starting out. I'm sorry, but that is how it is, and a severe limitation for new users. An alternative is to download a 1-2 Gb file (that is the blockchain). Depending on your bandwidth and network stability, this can take awhile in Vietnam too. A more complex alternative is to use a utility called pywallet.py that can extract the private keys in your wallet.dat file. Once you have extracted the private keys, you can import them to a more new user friendly client to spend your Bitcoins somewhere else. Electrum, as mentioned earlier by me, is a super fantastic client for someone wishing to use Bitcoin in Vietnam. This client allows you to import those keys too.
which client are you using?
If you are using the bitcoin-qt client, the client will need to be fully sync'd with the network before you can see the balance.
If you can see your confirmed transaction on blockchain.info, then you will definitely see your balance in the bitcoin-qt client when it gets sync'd. But you should know that syncing the blockchain, especially in vietnam, can take a very long time.
I highly recommend using a "lite" client like electrum if you are in a country with poor network access. Your transactions will appear much more quickly.

The best idea to promote bitcoin is for people to use the currency and extend the network effect of Bitcoin. How many people have you asked to hold bitcoin while they pay some debt for you? Going out to lunch with a co worker? need something interesting to talk about? it takes 30 seconds to setup a wallet, offer to give them $5-10 in Bitcoin for if they pay your lunch tab. Now they have bitcoin. encourage them to do the same to one of their friends. you tell two friends, they tell two friends, etc.. we could make bitcoin ubiquitous and skyrocket in a month if we all just did this.

I recommend searching for your transaction on blockchain.info. here is an example of a transaction: http://blockchain.info/tx-index/5693030/f53efd5e325dbcfe7c13cacde7fce1c802888c16f9a805344433b7ebbc6939ecIt would be pretty difficult to give away any information that might allow a hacker to get your Bitcoins if you know what to look for... any bitcoin address beginning with a 5 is definitely a dangerous thing. Anything beginning with a 1 is very safe as long as you're not concerned about privacy (because you're associating an address with an identity). anyway, go to blockchain.info and type in your bitcoin address in the search bar. It will show you unconfirmed transactions. If you see zero fees included in the transaction, that is why there is a delay. It will get confirmed, but it may take several hours at most.

The evolution of Bitcoin, to me, is one of the most fascinating and exciting things to me. One person's idea (solution) has spurred so much other innovation in others. And you're right, the same thing will happen in the realm of security and the void will get filled with new ideas and ways of thinking about the new problems. The road to future innovations and advances will be paved with the carcasses of fallen comrades, but the rest of us will be better off and more secure from their loss.
What is the address the bitcoins were sent to? Or the transaction id?
If you didn't pay a transaction fee, it may be several hours before the first confirmation occurs - but it will go through.

Thank you! Report back any interesting encounters you have. I'd like to know how this is working for you guys.
I've turned 3 people at my work on to Bitcoin so far and even paid for my lunch with Bitcoin to one of them)
