I have http://bitcoinica.com/trading on a bookmark page that I normally click to either immediately start, or if it is a new browser session go through the login page.

Recently with the new TOS, an accept / decline button confirmation for the TOS appeared. However I reclicked the bookmark thinking that I had missed and got another page instead (I had already looked at the ToS page earlier that day)

However I have not actually been able to get back to the accept / decline page.

What state would my account be in? and can you reset it so that I can click accept or decline if it is not already in an accepted state.

username on bitcoinica is marked

marked

Log in, and then visit the TOS page and see if you have the accept buttons.

If no, I'll do a reset for you.
462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoinica is now a registered Financial Services Provider! on: April 21, 2012, 05:45:47 AM

Interesting, do you operate a NZ-based bank account or have any physical presence in NZ besides a mailbox?

Yes, we will replace our bank account details very soon.

Looking at the Terms of Service:

I see:
Quote
The following describes the terms and conditions upon which Bitcoinica LP

Searching NZ companies I don't see a "Bitcoinica LP".  I do see a "BITCOINICA CONSULTANCY LIMITED":

But I don't see anything on Bitcoinica.com that mentions this variant.  So either there is another organization involved, or the search results aren't correct (maybe a new filing hasn't been published by the agency perhaps) or the Terms of Service references the wrong entity name.

It's here: http://www.business.govt.nz/fsp/app/ui/fsp/version/searchSummaryCompanyFSP/FSP207625/4.do?noReturn=true

Bitcoinica LP is a limited partnership, which means that it's not a separate entity by definition. (It is a separate entity.) However, it is FSP approved.

Press Release: https://www.bitcoinica.com/posts/registered-financial-services-provider

April 20, 2012 —

Today we are announcing some highly anticipated news.

Bitcoinica has completed its corporate reorganization and is now a registered Financial Services Provider, organized under the laws of New Zealand.

Bitcoinica began as an experiment to help investors trade bitcoins with the advanced trading features seen in traditional forex markets. The response has been overwhelming and we are very pleased that we've been able to address this need.

We recognize that it's important to operate in a transparent manner and meet all the requirements expected from a legitimate financial services organization. Therefore we have taken the necessary steps to become a registered provider of the following financial services:

- Providing credit under a credit contract
- Operating a money or value transfer service
- Issuing and managing means of payment
- Changing foreign currency
- Entering into or trading on an exchange

Interested parties can verify our registration on the public website of the New Zealand Financial Service Providers Register.

We are also releasing our Terms of Service which formalizes our responsibilities and reinforces the standards of fair dealing Bitcoinica users have come to expect.

Bitcoinica thanks our customers for your continued support and we look forward to serving you.

Bitcoinica operates one of the most popular Bitcoin trading platforms, with advanced features such as margin trading, short selling and stop orders. Bitcoin users can use Bitcoinica to trade Bitcoins, exchange currencies and receive interests on deposits.
465  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why not leave bitcoinia in maximum leverage? on: April 13, 2012, 05:04:37 PM
zhou is well aware of ppl creating new accounts and does not appear very worried about it... so until then...
p.s. i have two accounts. the first i forgot the passwd to. balance is basically zero if i recall correctly.

It seems that he is not worried about anything related to other people's BTC. He doesn't even care to credit deposits:

http://help.bitcoinica.com/discussions/questions/144-missing-500-usd-deposit-and-zhoutong-ignores-me

http://help.bitcoinica.com/discussions/questions/169-deposited-btc-have-not-arrived

http://help.bitcoinica.com/discussions/questions/134-what-is-going-on-i-deposited-15-coins-here-and-they-never-showed-up-wtf-didnt-you-say-something-on-the-deposit-page

The first guy seemed to have a technical problem with a MtGox code. Hard to tell what happened there, even harder to act without evidence. Give him 500 just like that? It'll have to be addressed to MtGox I think.

The second guy is complaining about 1 Bitcoin. There could be many reasons why that single bitcoin wasn't credited. More likely those reasons have more to do with him than with Bitcoinica. Perhaps...

...he used the old deposit address that was hacked as the third guy seems to have done. He is complaining he didn't know about it. Tough luck, if a company I work with is hacked, I'd read about everything that has to with that first before >continuing to use this company< as if nothing had happened.

Then, there is another guy that complains that he forgot his password to his 1000$ Bitcoinica account. I mean, seriously, if Zhou has to deal with such crap on a day to day basis, a wonder his service can still run so smoothly. He must answering people's emails and telling them they are total idiots 24/7.

I think these problems have been resolved. Relating to deposit problems, I always try to fix the issue as soon as possible, and the customer should be notified by email once the deposit is completed. However, I didn't usually respond to these requests because they have already been notified.

Some customers are kind enough to close their requests, or post an update for me, and I really appreciate that. Others don't but they should be satisfied and stopped complaining.

I think resolution is the ultimate thing. It takes me more time to type a reply than fixing such simple issues. It's definitely not that I don't care.
466  Economy / Speculation / Re: 15,000 BTC sell order on: April 12, 2012, 02:18:37 PM
Bitcoinica order book is not used for matching. We only consider Mt. Gox prices for order execution.

The order book is provided for no purpose.

Have you checked out btccharts.com/#m=btca-BTC-USD? Is it an accurate representation of your book?
Not that it really matters since orders aren't checked until time of execution anyway, so it's easily gamed.

It shouldn't be. We have mentioned again and again that you shouldn't use this order book for any trading decisions. They do not represent the actual liquidity.

We have always been processing orders in this manner, since the launch of the service. We had reasons to hide the order book from the public, and one of them is to avoid confusion. However, since so many people are asking for transparency, we just release our raw data to the public. (Actually in the back end, we don't really have such a nice sorted order book. In fact, I didn't even try to see aggregate orders from our customers before the order book is public.)

We *may* improve the data quality in the future, but that's not our priority. If you don't know how to use the data or don't trust it, just pretend it isn't available at all.

To put it simply: We are giving you the equal access to the data that we have, even though it could be useless for trading.

468  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [ACTIVE] Selling Mt. Gox and Bitcoinica code at 0.25% discount (USD/AUD/SGD/CNY) on: April 12, 2012, 05:27:02 AM
how will ppl know that the bitcoinica codes are real ?

You can get a Mt. Gox code instead. These two types of codes are freely interchangeable on Bitcoinica.

You don't have to use Bitcoinica to accept this deal.
469  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [ACTIVE] Selling Mt. Gox and Bitcoinica code at 0.25% discount (USD/AUD/SGD/CNY) on: April 10, 2012, 02:29:14 PM
Be careful about trying out new person-to-person payment services offered by the big banks (you are offering to accept Citibank Global Transfer).  I tried accepting QuickPay by Chase for Bitcoin purchases once, and while my counterparties were honest, we were brutally raped (virtually) by Chase in the process.  Just for receiving a Chase QuickPay, we had our business account locked out on two separate occasions for the better part of a day - a business account that is used for payroll for 25+ employees and which normally carries a balance thousands of times larger than the QuickPays we received.  And we are big enough Chase customers that we have a personal dedicated banker whose job it is to cook us hot dogs if we ask him to -  and yet we were still locked out like this.  Imagine being a normal customer who has to call 800-numbers and wait on hold.

Our account was completely locked out and we were told repeatedly that we would not have access to our account until the individuals paying us (on each of the two occasions) visited a Chase branch in their home state and showed their ID - despite the fact we had no other relationship with those individuals and were merely the recipient of the funds.  Even after unlocking our account, Chase permanently reversed numerous QuickPay transactions without recourse - transactions that had never been disputed - and we had to rely on the honesty of the counterparties to re-initiate new transactions.

My guess is if these customers had disputed these transactions or if they were actually fraudulent, we'd have been totally dead in the water.

Beware.

Thank you for the heads up! It's true that I haven't done such transfers before so I may be unfamiliar with the hidden risks.

I will be careful about this.
470  Economy / Marketplace / [EXPIRE] Selling Mt. Gox and Bitcoinica code at 0.25% discount (USD/AUD/SGD/CNY) on: April 10, 2012, 02:13:25 PM
Notice: This deal is expired.

Disclaimer: This deal is entirely personal. It has nothing to do with Bitcoinica, or any other business.

I'm selling Mt. Gox and Bitcoinica codes at a 0.25% discount. I accept the following payment methods:

- (USD) Wire transfer (I will NOT absorb the fees. However, I pay no incoming fees and no intermediary fees in most cases.)
- (USD) Citibank Global Transfer (This is free if you have a Citibank account, but I haven't done any transfer before. My account should be eligible for this service.)
- (AUD) Local bank transfer (I have an account with NAB.)
- (SGD) Local bank transfer (I have an account with DBS.)
- (CNY) Local bank transfer (I have an account with ICBC.) or Tenpay.

For foreign currencies only:

I will convert the currency at interbank rate (OANDA dealing rates). This should be a very attractive deal!

Examples (at current rates):

If you pay US$10,000, you will get US$10,025.00 in Mt. Gox or Bitcoinica codes.
If you pay A$10,000, you will get US$10,319.09.
If you pay S$10,000, you will get US$7,953.19.
If you pay CNĄ50,000, you will get US$7,941.45.

The catch:

I will only accept transactions above US$2,500. It's a waste of time to deal with smaller transactions.

How to deal?

Email me at bitcoin@zhoutong.com and tell me how much you want to transfer. I will then give you the account details.

Why you offer this?

Cashing out from Mt. Gox is slow and expensive (average fee is $40 for me). And I have started building my diversified currency portfolio, since I have lived in three different countries.
471  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Jered Kenna (TradeHill) ,why don't you pay back OUR money ?". on: April 10, 2012, 12:45:59 PM
Got your PM.

Even though I offered Jered the BTC/USD exchange deal, I didn't manage to get a reply from him.

So probably I can't help much at my side either. :-/
472  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: April 04, 2012, 09:26:36 PM
lol, I & someone else I know have put in multiple CS reports in the past & never, ever received one single reply or solution to various & serious problems except for the auto responder, you're only hope imo is to catch Zhou's attention here on his thread & as it's public he does tend to address genuine issues once posted

This is something I didn't expect. I am running a bitcoin site myself, even though the amounts I am dealing is much smaller than Bitcoinica's, I can't imagine leaving users without reply about their deposits.

Anyway, if he ever shows up here is my problem. I've made an initial small bitcoin deposit to the site which made through (though much later than 6 confirmations they claim). Then I initiated a second larger deposit and it is in the limbo for three days, which is really annoying. As I said, I PMed him without any response.

What is the average time of deposits in your experience?

If not wrong, you sent the Bitcoin to the compromised Linode wallet. The private key of your deposit address has been exposed.

We updated most of our users' addresses automatically, however, some accounts were still not updated.

Sorry for the delay. It's a pain to log in to the comprised system, go through transaction history and enter all transaction entries *manually* into the system. We usually do this once a week, to help our users recover their BTC balance.
473  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: April 02, 2012, 10:01:37 PM

Sorry. I'll process it for you within 24 hours.

I have credited you $25, should be more than enough to cover your losses. Again, we apologize for the problems.

Thank you Zhou, just wondering if that should be reflected in my account yet because it hasn't shown up, or if I should wait another 13 or so hours? Just wanted to make sure it didn't accidentally get sent to another account or lost on the interwebz somehow, my Bitcoinica account name is matharis just for reference again.

Sorry to keep pestering you, but the $25 it still hasn't shown up in my account? Did some other lucky Bitcoinica user get a random $25?

Still nothing....

Sorry, I think I credited the previous amount into the wrong account. But the funds should have arrived now. Thanks for your patience!
474  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: TradeHill - looking to buy 17k USD worth of BTC on: March 31, 2012, 01:08:06 PM
I'll take this offer, for full $17,000. I'll send the BTC required in a few hours. I can receive wire in USD with no incoming fees (Citibank Singapore).

We can use the 24h weighted price for this transaction. Email me at bitcoin@zhoutong.com please.
475  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica made order book public on: March 30, 2012, 02:52:21 PM
We don't have a mechanism of removing unfunded orders at the moment, because in our system, we only process the order when the price reaches the trigger, including the margin assessment.

We didn't previously open our order book to the public so that was not part of our consideration. It's not a bug, but it does affect the usefulness of the data.

Currently we're in a process of rewriting our matching algorithm to make everything faster and more sensible. We admit that our current algorithm isn't that suitable for a large-scale trading platform like what we are now. It was designed for thousands of dollars of trade per day.
476  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mt Gox thinks it's the Fed. Freezes acc based on "tainted" coins. (unlocked now) on: March 29, 2012, 08:12:20 PM
I'm happy that Mt. Gox has done some serious jobs to protect the benefits of their partners, and risk being misunderstood. They have been actively contacting us throughout the issue.

I apologize for those who accounts were placed on hold for AML because of their protection. We should have told them earlier our attitude that consumers and merchants shouldn't be responsible for tainted coins. We even accept the tainted coins ourselves.

At the same time, I really appreciate what Mt. Gox team has done.
477  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica made order book public on: March 29, 2012, 08:04:45 PM
Interesting. Watching the spread earlier of $4.70/4.81 I saw orderbook w/ a spread more like $4.77/$4.78. I had a sell order inside the spread. A 1400+ buy order @ $4.85 showed on the book, which I watched get filled, without any of the ask side moving, including my order inside the spread.

I'm thinking that's not super helpful. If the above is truly what happened (and I do have a series of screenshots) and wasn't a bug (I saw millions of BTC on order) well.....I just don't know how to explain how

$4.70 > $4.85 < $4.81  Huh with supporting volume inside the spread  Huh

I understand you're not showing all the actual orders, but...hmm - I guess I have to wonder what the spread has to do with reality.

That's why Bitcoinica is not an exchange. We rely heavily on Mt. Gox liquidity.

Our pricing algorithm doesn't take the order book into account.

The background: I was surprised when I see the order book myself. I haven't done that for a long time. I didn't know that we have SO MUCH liquidity! I was always under the impression that people are mostly interested in market or near-market orders.

We are displaying our book in a format that's similar to an exchange, and it doesn't mean that we have to match these orders in the exchange way.
478  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 29, 2012, 12:42:07 PM

Did I somehow do you wrong and end up on your ignore list? I've tried to be courteous, but I've been waiting almost a week for anything from Bitcoinica support, I posted in the Zero-Spread thread (even defending you against someone who said you were trying to rip us off) probably close to a week ago as well and you never responded, I posted on this thread three days ago, I PMed you with a link to my post describing what happened and inquiring whether my position could be restored (150BTC short, base was around 4.845) with my account name (matharis), and despite answering multiple other people's questions in the meantime, here I sit with my questions unanswered. I would have previously recommended Bitcoinica for people who wanted to trade bitcoins, but now all I can think about is the deplorable customer service that I have yet to even receive. This is beyond ridiculous, you respond to the crazy guy who is trying to sue you, but you won't even give me the time of day?

Edited to change steal to rip off and to include what my position was.

Hi,

I'm really sorry about this. I thought I had compensated everyone affected. In your case, you should be liquidated at $5.4+ because the market price actually went there.

If you have any stop orders which were executed at high prices, you can receive $0.13 per BTC for them. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with our ask ticks.

Thank you for responding, I understand now what exactly you meant with the short liquidation ticker problems, it wasn't as clear in the speculation thread. 99% of my frustration was the lack of response to my questions. I had 200 btc executed ~$0.40cents above my stops (range from $0.39-0.41 or so I think) between my 150btc short cover and then the buy order that was bought and almost immediately liquidated. I also understand not reinstating my position, but I figured I would at least try, I would appreciate the $0.13 compensation though.

Also, do you happen to be planning on implementing stop limits at any time?

I was just wondering when you might get around to that compensation? Don't know if you're busy or something, haven't been very active lately, on this thread at least.

Sorry. I'll process it for you within 24 hours.

I have credited you $25, should be more than enough to cover your losses. Again, we apologize for the problems.
479  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoinica made order book public on: March 29, 2012, 12:36:09 PM
Now, the limit order book is public.

Order Book: https://www.bitcoinica.com/pages/order_book

Our to-do list:

- Make it "live".
- Make platform-wide trade history public.
- Make it available via APIs.
