461  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S9 Enclosures - sound abatement - heat removal..suggesstions on: January 11, 2017, 05:11:38 PM
Still being a rookie-noob.... I just saw that the R4 might be a great workaround, for noise issues..home mining.

Their about 8.6 Th/s..

Looks like I need some additional research time...........

Yes the R4 is hardly noticeable running in a home.

However , a lot of people have been having quality issues with them so probably best to buy a used R4 from someone. This way you can verify it runs as advertised. Buying directly new from Bitmain is risky, 2 of the 4 I purchased from Bitmain only hashed on one board.

I found this enclosure the other day, :

I wonder how many kW that enclosure can handle before overheating
463  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: January 11, 2017, 04:22:35 AM

Can you provide the BM v.1 firmware?
As has been often repeated here: ALL miners from batch-16 and up requires BM v2 auto-tune firmware. The hash boards will not work with BM v1.

Yeah no shit, I have pre-batch 16 miners with V2 so what is your point?

Look into a soundproof rack cabinet:

Very pricey, unless you find someone selling a used one Wink

I have two 13.5th autotunes that came with the Dec 6 firmware. Looks like the Dec 6 firmware takes 8 minutes to fully boot, Nov 29 was seven minutes.
Got a bit leery at the 7 minute mark when the green light was not flashing.
First autotune freaked me out the first time with the long boot sequence.

I have a pre-autotune S9 and recently I reverted it back to BM v1.0. Boot time takes less than 1 min and works for all temp ranges. The autotune fw for some reason would overheat when my temp raises above 0 degC.

Can you provide the BM v.1 firmware?
466  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Potentially WTS Antminer S9 B10 11.85Th pre-auto tune on: January 10, 2017, 04:19:26 PM
Are the new batches of S9's so inferior to the current ones, that they warrant buying older S9's at full price? o.o;

Some people prefer Version 1 firmware without the auto tune. I think the prices mostly reflect demand for s9's in general
467  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Potentially WTS Antminer S9 B10 11.85Th pre-auto tune on: January 10, 2017, 03:15:23 AM
Since you're not really selling it, this has become a dick tease..

 Cheesy

I would be interested in one for the US group buy if I can pay in USD

So what exactly would happen with everyones current 1xxxx wallets that hold funds?

What about the temperature issue though? You think that because its not reporting temp for one of the boards its a safety risk?

I originally said to have it fixed while still under warranty because I thought I read someone saying Bitmain would cover shipping costs but fuck it, just let it run and forget about it. Even if you could see the temp its not like you can adjust the fan speed to compensate.

Please I implore you miners to move your hashing power to a smaller non Chinese mining pool! Stop feeding the hash monsters! A large number of reasonably sized mining pools is healthy for bitcoin ecosystem!

Most likely DDos? this has happened before.

I can vouch for Reelen.

He shipped same day and the miner runs perfect. I highly recommend buying one of his units vs buying new from Bitmain and risking a DOA unit

Maybe we can start a new thread for all the hate and mud slinging? This thread previously was fairly peaceful other than the chicken sacrifices but Blockchain Jesus demanded the sacrifices in return for blocks
475  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: ANT MINER S9 Socket connect failed: Connection refused on: January 06, 2017, 10:04:13 PM
Try disconnecting the data cables and pci cables from hash boards, leaving only one board connected, power on and let run for 20 minutes to see if you can get any single board to hash. Power down and try next board. I have found on the R4 that one bad board will cause a "socket connect fail" and not allow the other good board to hash. Once I disconnect the bad board then the other will begin to hash fine.

I have not experienced this same effect on s9's with bad boards but all of mine are earlier Version 1 models, the R4 is Version 2 auto tune
476  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: January 06, 2017, 09:38:01 PM
Probably best to fix it while still under warranty

You think? Anyone have any experience as to how long Bitmain normally take on repairs? Would I have to pay shipping? If so, its not worth it.

I'd rather send back the dodgy board than the whole unit. That way I'd at least be hashing at 4.3 TH/s

Bitmain Hong Kong requires you to ship the entire unit, you can not send just the board.

If you are sending to Bitmain Warranty in Denver then you will have to pay for repairs regardless if it is still under warranty or not. I just sent them one of mine so I will report back on timeline/cost for the fix.

Someone suggested sending to Sidehack previously for repair. If he can make time and is willingly to do so, I might send my inop batch 4 to him so we can get feedback on what is causing all the failures. If it is an easy fix, maybe we can avoid sending equipment back to Bitmain and just repair at home
477  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: January 06, 2017, 02:55:44 PM
Bitmain came back saying I could send the whole unit back to replace the missing ASIC chip probably not worth it as I'm getting 8.7TH/s - They said it's programmed to shut down if the temp gets too high but my next question is how can it do that if temp isnt being detected on one of the boards!?  Huh

Probably best to fix it while still under warranty
478  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25+PH] Kano CKPool kano.is 0.9% PPLNS US,DE,SG,JP,NL,NYA on: January 06, 2017, 01:59:10 AM
Wow .. I have had a s9 for a couple of weeks now. been running it on slush. I was going to move it over to Kano but will keep it on slush after all the negativity about the s9 here.

FWI we would all have been better off just buying bitcoin instead of buying any of these OVER priced miners.

Best of luck to all.

Buying btc or buying stock in the chip makers like AMD or NVDA would be a better investment financially perhaps but many people choose to mine because it is a lot more fun and supports a network we all believe in. Plus a lot of interesting people here in the mining community to learn from
479  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: January 06, 2017, 01:13:52 AM
Latest is I've opened a support case with Bitmain on the R4B4... Temp not showing for one of the boards. They're requesting the kernal logs so I'll send them later when I get home and power the R4 on. I was afraid to leave it switched on in case it overheated and I have no visibility into the temp on the 2nd board.

I contacted support about my single board hashing R4 and this is what they sent me back

Dear xxxxxx

Please try one more test to reconfirm the issue. If this does not solve the problem we will pay for the return shipment.

Please upgrade to this version of the firmware: https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=007201612090211421457I07aFFE0609

If the upgrade does not complete successfully please upload the Package to Fix Upgrade Failure: https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=007201611260753443104jm60Q6L0639

Then please load the firmware again and run the miner for 20 minutes. If this does not solve the issue please send us updated screen prints of the miner overview and the miner status. We will send instructions to ship the machine back to us at our cost.

Regards,
Barbara

Trying that now, If it doesnt work it at least looks like they are willing to pay for the shipping thats all i care about

The second link for upgrade fix is not compatible with the R4, that is for the s9

HEY BITMAIN, WOULD BE NICE TO SEE SOME HELP WITH THESE PROBLEMS INSTEAD OF CHARGING EVERYONE MORE MONEY TO FIX YOUR CRAP PRODUCTS.

Everyone should start bombarding Bitmain with complaints otherwise this type of behavior will continue
