461  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Linux vs Windows for Dedicated Mining on: October 15, 2012, 10:14:41 PM
When you tried using linux did you use cgminer to control your OC or ati utilities? Once I had a handle on getting the drivers installed properly and using cgminer to control the GPU OC's I have had a way more stable setup then any attempts at mining with windows.

what dependencies does cgminer require in Ubuntu?

I'm not sure exactly what the minimum dependencies would be..

I have used this writeup/guide many times now using Xubuntu, Ubuntu and also Pinguy (Ubuntu based)
It has worked well every time for me and proved the most reliable method. I use the exact drivers specified in this, substitute the most recent cgminer.

+1

U should change the version on CGMINER installer chapter to min V 2.7.6 the one written link is dead, but it,s the easiest guide out there.

Hello All,
After reading some post about jalapeno, i still have the same questions i had before starting read them...

At least till the end of the year i'll have like (at least) 4 or 5 hours/day with free electrical power.
Right now i'm mining with my laptop (Duo P8600 @ 2,4 GHz with GeForce 9600M GS 1 GB and 32 bits Win Vista) with Ufasoft (the only one i can get to work both with gpu and cpu)

My two questions are:
1- Should i buy the BF jalapeno? How long should it take for me to get it? Is it easy to work with for a non technical user?

2- What's the faster way to mine/get the 15 BTC that it costs? Is there anyway to get like a loan?

I will appreciate any help/comments on this two questions.

Thank you

Huh i am blind because i see 5 questions .. Tongue Tongue Tongue.lol

U better just wait untill they are out there..then put ur money in this project especially if you can,t afford to lose money on it. Roll Eyes

2.) Bitinstant is probably the fastest way right now. I've heard that you can usually get the transfers done within a few hours. Bitfloor would be cheaper, but I think they have delayed USD transfers until the end of October.
ty mufa23, i'm from Portugal... so it would be Euros Smiley
MtGox I guess. I'm not sure how Europeans get their coins.
they can go to people with there cash money and instant transfer to wallet works perfect, but they have to know were to search..local onlinemarketplaces are one way.. cash to wallet is one of the most used@ the moment because it,s  anonymous.

Seems to be a definite bias towards cold climates.  I wonder whether that will change with ASIC mining.
Top 5 is:
-Finland
-Island
-Slovenia
-Sweden
-Canada

mmm could it have something to do with the ratio of population relative to the number of internet connections in that country?
poplation vs internet use becours these countries are widespread with low population i,m just guessing.. Huh Huh

Something like this will happen when just give ur BTC or money to air sellers

It,s all a scam i think...

Well if we are all speculating into the wild about everybody KNOWING ASIC will come but nobody has proof.. here s my scenario:

The first promises are broken in november.
Here everybody asks if some one heard from ASIC producers
Everybody thinks they get screwed..

Late nov 2012 reward drops 50 > 25 BTC diff. go s down du to gpu,s pulled of the net.
On this board ASIC s aren,t deliverd???
Nobody knows whats going on
Great panic..o no could it be...

Complete deception end of december not a single ASIC in the wild..
On the BTC board every sceptical person says ..i told u so..hah haa see..
Nobody believes it..but GPU is back in business every body starts them up again.

Clue is the first Letters of every sentence

1 TH/s at $1500? Surely not?

All current ASIC vendors got served by these guys (who are these guys?)
A parody on the whole asics scene, give it a google translate

yep..
translation says exact the same delivery and pre-order specs as ngzhang avalons..exact
but other machine specs of course...quantity not 300 but 1000.
467  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: User with over 200GH/s BTCGUILD on: October 14, 2012, 11:30:17 AM
He's lying.  Nobody in the world has personal gear like that.  FPGAs aren't fast enough and at Radeon 5830 speeds, 400GH/s is over 1200 cards, all with insane overclocking.  Even industrial places have trouble getting that much electricity (242,000 watts) not to mention cooling problems and management problems.

not possible?  could it be 400/25= 16 minirigs from BFL? or some kind of combo?   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Hello,
I had done an order of Avalon-ASIC last week, I choosed Bitcoin paid method and I have paid this week but the status of the order is "Pending Bitcoin".
Can you clear the situation of my order?
(The order number is #200000528)

#200000528 .... hmm more then 300 pre-orders? i don't know, maybe there are 300 pre-orders, just strange order number , and it is not a big problem if it are a few more sold, would be interesting to know how much exactly , to know the amount of ghash added to the network, but that is all just speculation anyhow..

no, the order # is random, and there are many canceliations in the queue.

we maybe accept new order in the future (with another delivery time), but this batch is only 300.
how many conformations for this dec. batch sofar, Huh thx

Despite Apples claims of inventing the curved corner, these exact boxes have been available in varying dimensions at electronics hobbyists stores at least since the 1960s.

Why you using such an outdated version of cgminer?

I have found that cgminer 2.7.6 is very stable and is better able to keep rigs full of work. I would recommend to anyone to upgrade to 2.7.6 if you are using cgminer. I have done this for my entire farm and have seen good improvements.

+1  ( also 2.7.6 works great doing 99.90%@btcguild pool day in day out with xubuntu12.4)

476  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Possibility of an economic attack on bitcoin? on: October 11, 2012, 02:14:23 PM
shutting down bitcoin is like shutting down internet it grows and grows and it will get stronger and more secure if you ask me.. Wink but lots of sh!t is going on right now...intersago vs $, GLBSE down, GPUMAX down, ASIC?/? ect. ect. ect..cheers Cheesy

Basically, Satoshi gave the protocol a bit of a "if you come after me, make sure you kill me" dynamic

477  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Soon comes the ASIC onslaught, what about the aftermath.. on: October 11, 2012, 12:19:47 PM
There's also the possibility that so many people get ASICS fast enough that essentially it becomes a nearly perfect balance and ROI stretches out for a long time- with people making just a touch more then the cost of running them.

Thats true of course they will, but not before halving day and if ASIC get released to the net dif.  will go up very fast to.

Again it,s going to be a wildwest in about 2 month this forum wil or wil not blow up figurly speaking... i am looking forward to it and thats also the charme of bitcoin....Mine on..

It couldn't be a proxy pool mining, no way that could EVER happen. Roll Eyes
Its not like someone could get a bunch of miners at their pool and proxy that work to another pool. ID10T

Also recently BTCGuild is one of 2 pools supporting stratum - designed for high hashrate hardware - why wouldn't someone finding it works well switch their whole farm to stratum? instead of the more anonymous way of loadsharing between several pools.

thats it u are completly right  Wink

i think u are right, this is like a big miner with some 8 minirigs@25gh or something making some quick BTC or so but nobody nows what it,s? it really kicked in and also is very steady @200gh.... Shocked

480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin framing on: October 10, 2012, 08:48:20 PM
On a somewhat related note, I wonder if it would be possible to peg bitcoin against gold rather than USD.  Rather than saying "I'll pay you $50 worth of bitcoin", you can say, "I'll pay you 0.03 oz of gold worth of bitcoin."
