4741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Good Reason to Own Some BTC on: July 07, 2017, 11:31:57 AM
...

If you are traveling and lose your credit card, but in a country that has a reasonably active Bitcoin scene, you can sell some BTC to pay bills while "over there".

This may become an issue for us.

Here is a case for having an online wallet, "travels anywhere".

True. Or to be honest you can probably travel just on bitcoin right now. Credit cards charge way too much for fees overseas and the conversion fees are extremely high compared to interbank rates as well. When using bitcoin you might actually get some discounts due to the fact that many countries have strict capital control especially in Asia(Korea, China, etc. you get the picture).

Wouldn't that be quite fun? I mean, it just ultimately shows how useful bitcoin is especially when you're overseas, because bitcoin is an international currency, much like preciosu metals. It's not owned by any state.

Travelling on just bitcoin would be pretty much impossible at the moment in certain countries, you're probably not going to get any sort of premium for your coin. But on the contrary, expect to pay a big premium for the fiat currencies.

Unless you know the local people there, do not see bitcoin at least right now at some sort of way to avoid carrying cash and credit card around. Obviously, this will change as more people accept bitcoin around the world but it is currently just too impractical to be exchanging $200 in btc countless times p2p just to pay for food and accomodation.

But as OP said, bitcoin as an emergency backup should prove to be very helpful in various scenarios.
4742  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin prices may hit $1 billion - Fox Business Speculates on: July 07, 2017, 11:29:21 AM
Yes, you are reading it right, it is not million.
Very interesting, while reading it I just recalled what some folk said when PayPal directors speculated for $1 million.

Like me, you also will love to read this twice : https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/fox-business-speculates-bitcoin-price-reach-1-billion

Ultimately fiat is worthless. So it doesn't matter whether it is 1 billion, 1 trillion or 1 quadrillion. It is inappropriate in a hyperinflationary state of a currency to measure a store of value in that particular currency.

Obviously, do not expect 1 billion to be worth very much when bitcoin does hit that mark. It'll probably be worth some 0.001% of its current value. Don't see bitcoin as some sort of get rich quick scheme. It is merely a store of value, and the real value of bitcoin probably hasn't increased that much. It's the decrease in the value of fiat that will cause bitcoin price to rise in dramatic fashion in the long run.

But as others have said - i see this site as just being another site trying to grab attention by putting flashy headlines.
4743  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another bullish prediction for this year on: July 07, 2017, 11:25:46 AM

$5000 by the end of the year is definitely possible.

Though it will require the fork to go well, if the community gets divided any further on this issue then not only will the price plummet, support for bitcoin will also drop quite drastically. Especially if there was to be a chain split, that would probably drive the price down quite a bit.

If bitcoin stays whole then $5000 is pretty much well within reach, beacuse right now people are worried about the fork and yet price is still doing reasonable well. Just imagine the bull market we're going to have if the fork goes well, but that's a big IF.
4744  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin cannot replace currency in the world because price is not stable on: July 07, 2017, 10:36:53 AM
bitcoin cannot replace currency in the world because price is not stable.

currency should be more stable.

you may reply me. currency is not stable also but you should think

USD currency price is up and down 1-2% in 1 month.

bitcoin price is up and down 20% in 1 month.

what will people think if they just change USD to bitcoin then their money down 10% in 10 minutes?

bitcoin can become stock but cannot become currency

Incorrect.

Your flaw is that you're perceiving USD as being the primary value. But it isn't - fiat currency is never the primary value.

It's all psychological, really. If a few merchants are able to accept bitcoin no matter what its value is then naturally stabilize. The problem isn't stability of the coin - it's not enough people using it.

Besides, this upwards volatility benefits the vendors, no? It encourages tthem to take a risk and hold some of that bitcoin that they earned, again as i said will be a positive feedback loop essentially, stabilizing the bitcoin price along the way. Even if bitcoin is really volatile, it still can serve as simply a very cheap payment processor that everyone can transact fiat value with.
4745  Economy / Services / Re: Chineese Translator needed on: July 07, 2017, 10:27:15 AM
I can help you, depending on the type of work needed to be done and the rate that you're willing to be paid.

I've done 1 translation before, by no means am i a professional so if the workload is too big i'll probably decline the offer because I do have a day job and all that, and translating can get really tiring. Let me know via PM what you need done though and give me an estimate on the word count and the amount you're willing to pay for it.

Cheers

Any Chineese translation guy available please ? Need english to Chineese and the work is quite a lot.

I'm available to proof-read your English before it gets translated to Chineese.  Free sample of my work:

   It's spelled C-h-i-n-e-s-e

I charge USD$140 per hour and I get two 10 minute breaks every 20 minutes. Deal?

You made my day sir!!
4746  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: aadje93 scamming/ignores me over $3 btc on: July 07, 2017, 10:24:41 AM
I don't think that he is trying to scam you. As omegaStarScream said there is just far too much at stake for him to scam you for $3, which is probably going to go towards paying the transaction fee that will incur due to the fact that he received this dust amount.

He was only 5 minutes before you posted this thread it seems. So he probably haven't even gotten the chance of reading this thread yet. Give him some more time mate, it is definitely shady behaviour from him that cannot be condoned but he'll probably pay you back eventually.

$3 in bitcoin is just too little...
4747  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Bitcoin Vs Gold Vs USD on: July 07, 2017, 10:18:38 AM
Please move this thread to economics, it's not supposed to be in currency exchange.

In my opinion, bitcoin is the new "gold standard". Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Fiat is controlled by a government, probably the least favourable out of the three on this list. Gold is too bulky to deal with when you have thousands of kilograms of it stored in a vault, and if you want to buy just a cup of coffee with gold it is pretty much impossible to do that. But obviously, gold has been proven to be a store of value over many centuries and it's probably not going to change much in the near future.

But bitcoin is certainly sort of like digital gold. It is like gold, because both have limited amounts, and they are both decentralized. However, it is much more convenient and cehaper than gold.
4748  Economy / Speculation / Re: Last 4 months of bitcoin on: July 05, 2017, 10:46:52 AM
What do you see here? Shocked

The momentum of the upward trend has definitely slowed down. A major reason is bitcoin has never hit above $3000 or at least for long at all, and this has negatively affected the psychological side of traders and a lot have panic dumped thinking that this is the end of the bull run.

In my opinion though there is definitely a new bull run brewing right now. Lots of sideways movement, stability overall in the price, floating nicely around the $2500 mark. Before 1st August we should see some action once again, hopefully this time it'll be enough for bitcoin to climb over $3000 and establish a new floor at that price level before the UASF happens.
4749  Economy / Economics / Re: China Moves Closer to Issuing Blockchain-based Currency on: July 05, 2017, 10:44:08 AM
Anyone else here that thinks the USA is seriously lagging behind the bitcoin revolution? Because China and Russia are both planning on implementing their cryptocurency right now, and the USA just doesn't seem interested at all.

Even if the cryptocurrencies they issue are centralized in my opinion it'll still help drive adoption of the "real deal". People might not even use it when it comes out, but it will let them know about bitcoin, the father of cryptocurrencies.

Plus, blockchain technology could prove  to be useful for mitigating risk of hacks by building an immutable database.
4750  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin in Economics class? on: July 05, 2017, 10:20:52 AM

Do you think they are talking about bitcoin in your basic ECON class?

No, i don't think that bitcoin is mainstream enough to be covered in economic classes yet. Maybe in like university level classes but definitely not going to be in your average 11th grade econ class.

It should definitely be in the curriculum, though. Because bitcoin is going to be the future and if young people don't get educated about it the whole country is going to lag behind. Whoever teaches decentralized economics first imo will be the most successful country of the 21st century.

Though, i guess a lot of people are afraid that when teenagers learn about bitcoin they'll just use it for drugs. Absolute nonsense. There are more people using bitcoin for good than for bad, imo. And it's not bitcoin thats the problem, it's not like you can't buy drugs with cash when you're a teenager Roll Eyes
4751  Economy / Speculation / Re: My Bitcoin Speculation Thread. Please Critique my Analysis. ;) on: July 05, 2017, 10:06:40 AM
BTC/USD:  Time to Get Some?

Notice the higher lows and the decrease in volatility.  Now if this pattern continues, we could see BTC jump up and down in a tighter range of 2400 USD to 2700 USD or so.  Overall market sentiment for BTC is still overall good.   Caveat Emptor, but it could be a nice time to start getting some again.

A few green candles in a row, indicating that a new round of bullish market activity is about to start. This is probably a good opportunity to make a quick and safe 100-200 USD per coin depending on how long you're comfortable holding your position.

I think that 3000 is going to be a level that bitcoin is going to retest very soon. Probably before the UASF date. As you said, a lot less volatility, in fact every day i check the price of btc and it just doesn't seem to be moving much at all. Sideways movement is always the sign of bull markets, again.

I just found this thread and regret not having found it ages ago... Glad to see you're still actively posting analytics, though. Keep it up, bud!
4752  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: NitrogenSports scamming users on: July 05, 2017, 10:03:20 AM
Of course i will blame the fk house.Bullshit rules like this one are bad for the game and they will scam many new players who come to place a bet.
Seems like u all don't have fkin idea what are the official rules by most of the bookmakers. But u know what,Nitrogen owners set those rules deliberately, knowing there will be new players, who come and doesnt give a shit about rules and just want to place a fkin bet. That's my case- i came to the site,YES without looking into bet rules, BUT i thought standart tennis rules on most betting houses are valid here too.

That's why im posting this thread here,to let know big players to not risk their money on this pathetic betting house!
If i've made that bet on Bet365 i would've won my BTC + 0.11 ,0.12 BTC up from Raonic match.

Guess i need to learn from my mistake the hard way - NEVER PLAY ON SMALL BULLSHIT SCUM SITES !

Peace

I see this as pretty ambiguous. I live in australia so i'm going to cite australian sportsbooks.

Ladbrokes says this:

Quote
In Match Betting, if one player withdraws or is disqualified after the first set has been completed, the player progressing to the next round or that is awarded the match by the umpire will be considered the winner. If the first set has not been completed, all Match Bets will be void.

This is basically what Nitrogensports is following. But sportsbet says the opposite:

Quote
all bets are void in the case of a match that involves a retirement or disqualification.
Bet365 seems to void bets as well.

It ultimately depends on the exact wording of the terms and conditions listed by the sportsbook you're playing at. In tennis this is a pretty common occurance, so i think that it's worth checking out next time their terms before actually betting.
4753  Economy / Exchanges / Re: support @poloniex on: July 05, 2017, 09:57:41 AM
Hi all,

does anyone else have problems with the support @poloniex? I made an ticket on June 9 because my account is frozen and still don't got an answer from support.

Yes, in fact most people that are using poloniex right now are probably experiencing difficulties reaching support.

The most common things that seem to be issues are people not able to upgrade to level 2 verified, therefore they can only withdraw $2000 worth of crypto per day, no more; or simply having their withdrawals awaiting approval or deposits stuck.

How was your account frozen by poloniex? Did you do something beforehand that triggered the suspension of your account? Did they give you instructions to follow?

Please let us know, thanks
4754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BREAKING NEWS]: Rollout of 260,000+ Bitcoin-Accepting Stores in Japan Begins on: July 05, 2017, 09:55:19 AM
Fresh story hitting our news desk this morning and it's a hot one. Japan is really leading the pack on Bitcoin adoption now with +260,000 beginning to implement Bitcoin payment systems. Expect the price of BTC and ETH to moon launch.

https://news.bitcoin.com/rollout-of-260000-bitcoin-accepting-stores-in-japan-begins/

As always updates to this breaking story as we receive them...

Woohoo! More merchants is always good news for bitcoin.

It's great to see though that an already established payment processor in japan is seeking to implement bitcoin. Not only does it make the transition much smoother from fiat only to fiat and bitcoin, it also means that it's not foreign to people that were already using this protocol.

In my opinion, it's not surprising that this is happening either. The japanese government has shown an acceptance towards the usage of bitcoin in its country by cutting on taxing. Australia is probably going to follow in japan's footsteps as well by the looks of it.
4755  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it safe to sell bitcoin for paypal like this? on: July 05, 2017, 09:52:24 AM
No.

No matter how hard you try the other guy could always claim that the hacker also cancelled the dispute. He can use VPN to change his IP address(obviously) and paypal will generally side with the guy sending the funds because they want to uphold their 100% security guarantee.

Anything involving a single entity controlling the validity of transactions will have the possibility of chargebacks happening. If a court order was ordered then technically anything is possible. But by doing all these things you mentioned it will definitely reduce the risk of chargebacks happening, but the best thing to do is still to check who you're receiving funds from. Receiving as G&S from a trustworthy guy is much better than receiving as FF and open and close the dispute from someone you never knew before.
4756  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Transaction error in POLONIEX on: July 05, 2017, 09:46:53 AM
Hi People,

I had some BitShare coins and while withdrawing it, I accidentally withdraw it directly to bitcoin wallet instead of converting it to bitcoin first.

now the transaction status says complete: error.

I raised a ticket on it 26 days ago, still not received any feedback from Poloniex, Since the trollbox is disabled it's not possible to contact a moderator.

Do you guys think, I will receive my coins back?

How is this even possible?

Bitshares uses identifiers that you can actually pick that resemble more of usernames than random strings of numbers and letters like bitcoin. And it baffles me to see that poloniex would show a transaction as complete and error at the same time...

Unfortunately, all you can do in this case is basically just wait and hope for a response from poloniex support soon. You can't even use the trollbox to complain anymore because it is well, nonexistent. Good luck sir, and make sure that you don't use poloniex again after this until all their support issues are sorted out completely.
4757  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My Slushpool Account Hacked - External hack, or inside job? on: July 05, 2017, 09:44:28 AM
This is their thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1976.999999999. Feel free to complain about your misfortunes there although i'm pretty sure that the thread isn't moderated by any of the support staff/slush himself, so good luck getting a response there.

Slush's own bitcointalk account was compromised, however. Sort of ironic.

Personally i wouldn't think that it was an insider job at all - slushpool is one of the oldest and most trustworthy mining pool that are still around. How much bitcoin approximately was in your account? I'm sure that they wouldn't be moved by anything less than 100 BTC, because back in the days that was only 2 blocks worth of block rewards and they had a big % of all hashpower.

IP addresses aren't really useful at all. Just take this as a warning, make sure that you use a secure password and enable 2fa next time.
4758  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Legal frugs VS. Illegal Drugs on: July 02, 2017, 06:03:23 AM
Though regulators rarely get it right, you see alcohol and tobacco is legal and widely used, yet many researchers have shown that it is more addictive than heroin, and many times more addictive than marijuana.

Alcohol and tobacco are legal, because the cartels running these commodities are too strong and they pose hardly any threat to the pharma mafia. On the other hand, legalization of marijuana negatively impacts the pharma as well as drug cartels. That is the reason why the politicians are not interested in lifting the ban on weed, despite the majority of the population remains in favor of lifting it.

Exactly, the government always says stuff about outlawing guns, having better healthcare etc. obviously it's going to be an improvement to life expectancy of the nation but why don't they ban cigarettes which kills more people?

Weed has a very negative connotation even though it's just as addictive as caffeine, yet smoking cigarettes is still socially acceptable?

It's all about money for the rich... More money and even more money. If something is there to stop them from having that extra money, they're gunna do anything they can to stop it from happening, and in this case - legalizing weed federally.
4759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: removal of taxes on bitcoin and recognition as currency is booming in the world on: July 02, 2017, 05:57:48 AM
Japan exempts bitcoin from Consumption Tax

The exemption from Japan’s 8% indirect tax regime recognizes bitcoin as a private currency used for the exchange of goods or services, and that the currencies hold no intrinsic value. The measure has come into force from 1 July 2017.

Traders of bitcoin will though remain liable to tax on their gains – capital gains tax or corporate income tax.

Australian's New Budget Includes a Bitcoin Tax Cut

Australia has officially confirmed it will treat Bitcoin “just like money” from this year and it will no longer be subject to double taxation.

http://www.vatlive.com/vat-news/japan-exempts-bitcoin-from-consumption-tax/
http://www.budget.gov.au/2017-18/content/glossies/factsheets/html/FS_innovation.htm

I can feel the effects of the removal of taxes directly. People used to dodge taxes by trading p2p so that nobody can really say that you're trading bitcoin because everything in done behind a screen, but now they can buy from businesses that sell bitcoin, with no additional cost.

The taxes were basically extras for the government anyways, they didn't deserve it... Like they were basically saying that bitcoin was a good, but the "good" was also able to buy other tihngs and you'd have to pay more tax to essentially barter bitcoin for other stuff. Did not make sense at all.

But seems like now they've come to their senses, and at least a few countries have done the right thing. Just wonder when US and China will follow, if at all.
4760  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Keep your fiat at hand in order to buy new bitcoin on: July 02, 2017, 05:54:44 AM
Hello everybody,

I have a question :
How do you keep your fiat at hand to buy bitcoin when you feel it's the right time?
Indeed it takes 2 days to get a SEPA transfer on a exchange plateform. So where do you keep you fiat? On the exchange platform?

Thank you

For instance I think right now I should buy some crypto because the market is low... But I'm waiting for my SEPA transfer !

I suggest that you keep some USDT coins at hand just in caes you want to trade some for bitcoin for cheap.

However, keep the majority in your bank account because USDT's value depends solely on whether the company is paying out withdrawals or not. If bitfinex has another hack(bitfinex is the parent company of usdt, pretty sure), then your funds are going to be in danger. Though the advantages of having usdt instead of fiat in your bank is that you'll be able to get almost instant deposits onto exchanges.

Another way is just storing it on an exchange, as you said, but imo that's even riskier than USDT.
