These spammers don't care about Members. The majority of accounts they use are Jr. Members which don't need anything but time and activity to be obtained (at least for now). If they put the process on a stream (and I assume that they do), they register a new bunch of accounts every day and evolve them quietly in boards like Off-topic just to avoid the situation when their previous bunch is banned. Thus they don't incur any losses.

How do you expect it to be "destroyed" by banning? In fact I doubt that bans indeed disturb them (especially those who actually are engaged in some sort of "business"): sometimes it seems that they register a new bunch of accounts faster then their previous bunch is being banned.

Why not if it works? It's much easier to moderate them when they're collected in one place - and users who nevertheless find something useful there (applying them like some kind of news letter for example) don't have to dig the analytics thread (nor the entire board) to find what they want.


It'd been applied long time ago. The problem is that these accounts mostly have the rank of Jr. Member and higher - which means that only Global Mods and Admins can lock them while local moderators have to request the block. Requests consume time - and not every one of them is being satisfied (all the more so there're hundreds of bots). IMO, no wonder that Russian moderator decided to go the other way.


They're bots (at least the majority of them, I suppose). Bots don't think and don't hesitate - they just do what was implemented in their code. "Ice showers" are pertinent when we talk about people.

Everything would just return to it's basics. Since this thread is created for those posts by moderator they don't break anything there, but if they'd go outside they'll automatically start to violate the p.1. It's exactly the same situation we dwelled before.

No wonder since you reported a post from the thread which was specially created for those posts (Xal0lex wanted to remove them from other threads on account of their "garbage" nature - see his original post).

I doubt, since there're not so many related threads around. Also it's questionable if such a board would be popular: when it comes to cybersecurity, everyone makes a serious face and nodding, but say something commonplace when it actually comes to on topic reasoning. In these conditions it'd be better to evolve the existing threads.

Удаления - точно нет (за исключением чего-то из ряда вон выходящего). Что касается деактивации - тут весьма занятный вопрос на самом деле: на форуме не единожды уже были случаи, когда старые аккаунты блокировались с пометкой "sat to inactive" и их потом приходилось восстанавливать через администрацию, однако точные сроки и описание обстоятельств блокировки мне найти не удалось. Пришлось создать тему с вопросом в Meta, но там еще неизвестно, когда ответят; пока что только предполагается, что данное нововведение было связано со взломом форума 2015-го года.

Не в правилах - в описании раздела. Правила вот они, редактируются по мере необходимости. А описание раздела может отредактировать только англоязычный администратор, у которого до того много дел, что запросы на изменения подобных мелочей висят месяцами. Вот мы и сидим тут с постулатом, который уже давно не действует.

That's likely to be true (considering how often that line appears). I just ponder if that page displays the logs for suspended and suddenly returned accounts as well as it does that for accounts restored with secret questions.

By placing the link they do not violate the rule about plagiarism (p.33), but not the rules in general. Any spam and low-value post violates the p.1. In fact there's no sense in posting such "news": they don't contain any "fresh" thoughts (nor thoughts at all) and their "authors" just intend to make as many posts as possible.

Someone asked the related question in our local board, so I started to search and found these reasons why the account could be locked (not banned) on bitcointalk.org. Unfortunetely, I just can't find the exect description of time and process for some cases (and also the confirmation if I made the whole list), so I thought that somebody from the staff can assist me.

The hello-nice-to-meet-you-you're-locked-message looks like this:

Examples: threadone, threadtwo, threadthree.
WTH?! A measure implemented basically to prevent the ban evasion and spam.
The process: someone tries to register with TOR/proxy/VPN/IP that was previously used by some violator - and recieves the automatic block.
Possible solution for innocents: use the "white" IP to register or pay a fee.

2. Secret question block.

The hello-nice-to-meet-you-you're-locked-message looks like this:

Examples: threadone, threadtwo, threadthree.
WTH?! The aftermath of forum database leak'2015. Was implemented for security reasons (so someone who gained the access to the compromised answers couldn't use them).
The process: someone tries to reset his/her password with secret question and receives the automatic block. The result is displayed on seclog page as "password reset via secret question".
Possible solution for innocents: forget about secret questions and/or try to restore the account according to procedure described in official topic (or create a thread in Meta providing the signed message so Global Mods could help).

Questions:

Regarding the one noted with question marks:
- Are they actually auto blocks or somebody (I mean the staff) still pushs the button?
- For how long the account should be inactive to be locked (or what curcumstances lead it to be locked)?
- Which message corresponds to which case?
- It looks like some message shows up for someone who appeared to fall into certain list of potentially hacked users (in other words was manually added to some group by mods and thus received the security block) - is that so?
- Seclog page often displays the "woke up" lines - are they connected with blocks somehow?

Also do we have any other blocks?..

Also if someone is "good" in shiposting (or truly good in making quality posts), you don't need to mark it somehow - you can see it just from their posts (unlike reports which are hidden from public).

Безопасность аккаунта - это личное дело пользователя. Один только топик с привязкой BTC-адреса был создан в марте 2015-го года - за год до того, как был зарегистрирован аккаунт demyan7. А уж англоязычный тред с описанием процедуры восстановления и того раньше появился - в марте 2014-го. Это говорит о том, что все это время тема, что называется, "витала в воздухе", и у Вас были возможности узнать о том, что надо как-то обезопаситься (это помимо знаний о безопасности и поведении в Сети, которые многих подводят). В конце концов, были взломы форума и прочая фигня подобного плана. А теперь Вы ждете, что кто-то будет проявлять заинтересованность... к чему? К тому, что Вы даже не можете обосновать.


Ни в профиле, ни в постах аккаунта demyan7 мне указанный BTC-адрес найти не удалось. Это значит, что, если этот адрес не значился в каких-либо личных сообщениях (в чем я сомневаюсь, поскольку Вы этот факт в сообщении не указываете), он к аккаунту привязан не был. А это значит, что использовать его для подписи сообщения не выйдет - с его помощью Вы скорее сможете подтвердить владение этим вот Вашим аккаунтом, а не тем.

Not "plagiarism", though Russian Internet sites often erroneously use this term - even when Russian system Antiplagiat (that is broadly used to check the works out on coincidences) doesn't apply it. The official sources rather use the "correct borrowing" term, and it concerns the excerpts and quotations followed by proper sources (for example, you can check that document of Lomonosov Moscow State University describing verification procedure of graduate works and dissertations of students and postgraduates of Journalism faculty - it's on Russian, but I suppose that you can understand it since it's your mother tongue).
