481  Other / Off-topic / Re: chat with a scammer on: May 09, 2013, 05:21:39 PM
Why do people like the above poster act like "scamming" and "fraud" aren't everyday parts of life? You work a 9 to 5 at a desk, I work a 9 to 5 taking other people's money. There isn't any difference, it's a career choice, it's a job and work. Yes of course people are living comfortably off scams and bitcoin, that is HALF of the basis of bitcoin. Have you ever been to the darknet websites where thousands of identities are sold everyday, or counterfeit goods, or bank account information?

You really think people go out and buy bitcoins so they can send them to their friends overseas? Do you really think people care that much, to go invest in something a bunch of 25 year old males are saying is the future? It's a currency RAN by criminals and anonymity. Between Silk Road, BMR, and the hundreds of darknet websites, there are millions of dollars traded everyday.

Bitcoin isn't the new solution to paypal, it's not you go on the bitcoin website and you see two healthy people smiling saying "I got paid for my items!", that is what ebay and paypal are for. You know there is a reason why on many currency exchanges they don't give a shit to verify your identity.

I am just slightly annoyed of people trying to legitimize something that has no place in the real world. You can't get the average man to buy a bitcoin, there is nothing wrong with his dollars in his mind. There are people out there preaching bitcoins because they have made a ton of money with it. The price can hit a million dollars a coin, it really doesn't even matter. Whatever the price is, crime is still what makes the clock tick. Bitcoin is crime, crime is bitcoin.

If have never been on these websites and interacted with the communities there, your opinion is useless.

Flavius is your 9 to 5 scamming people?

Which Government, can you be more specific?

I don't feel you put much thought into this topic tbh.
483  Economy / Scam Accusations / veteranBtc, RTaki Scam (& majinx) on: May 08, 2013, 07:03:00 PM
veteranBtc & RTaki
A while back I was contacted by RTaki and asked to split a loan payment of 1BTC each to a member called veteranBtc. I was skeptical of RTaki so I asked them to create a public forum which can be seen here... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=189807.msg1967813#msg1967813

I was a bit to eager and sent 1BTC to veteranBtc which he agreed to payback with 1.5BTC on the 6thMay. Although suspicious I was stupid and sent the BTC lol, I figured veteranBtc had normal looking posts and if he intended to scam from the start it was a lot of effort to ask for 1BTC. Well I was wrong and he has not paid back the loan, both users have not been active so the scammer has abandoned those accounts and is probably trying to scam more people with new accounts by now.

majinx
Also I should add that a user called majinx contacted me the day after my expected payment on the 07th with this message. Perhaps this is the same scammer? I wont be waisting my time with private message loan offers anymore lol.

Branding
As a designer branding will be a key component the the coin. I already have a brand that I am working on with stocked merchandise of all sorts, even custom beer  Shocked. The new coin would be tied into the brand, this includes allowing users to purchase from my merchant stores & services, also I can give out free coins with sold products which will encourage a wider adoption of new users. I would also like to note the term "coin" would not be used in the name, everything down to the UI should eventually get a custom feel.

Mining
In terms of mining I have no idea of the capabilities in terms of alternatives to CPU, GPU, FGPA & ASIC. The priority would be the ability to mine coins with as primitive hardware as possible, I like the idea of a custom USB to do the job for example. CPU mining would be fine but if some innovation in this area is possible I feel the project will really stand out, plus I want to bring new users who are not quite tech savy into the fold.

Hardware
I have been in many discussions about custom ASIC devices and so on, at the moment I feel it is very viable that custom units could be manufactured specifically for the new coin. These units will have to be very cheap, lower power etc in order to tie into the general ethos of easy mining for everyone.

Want to help?
All I need is coder/programmer/developer skills to make the necessary changes to existing code, or to develop new code which naturally would be the ideal solution. Those who have experience should give me a shout, even if just to discuss the posibilites, nothing is set in stone at this point.

I have no idea whether this is a one man job, regardless it would be great if I can put together a team which would add great features, experience and value to the project. Ideally a small group of around 5 people working on the core source code would be ideal.

Reward
Bounty is possible, if enough interest and specialty is attained I am sure I could get support from a variety of channels too, a joint collaboration would be preferred over freelance keeping the work consistent and easily manageable. As this is not intended as a pump & dump or get rich quick scheme working on this coin might not see the profits some would hope for but a positive reputation is key to the long term success. Smiley

If you are interested please also mention what you could bring to the table. Coding skills & experience is key, I can manage the design, promo, marketing, SEO, and web related areas of the project.

UK
I forgot to mention but I would really like to see some UK interest in the project too, the UK is lacking way behind when it comes to Cryptocurrency. Hopefully we can establish the coin within the UK, merchandise and other promo materials that I have experience producing might go a long way towards promoting the movement as a whole.

486  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Let the Machines do the Work (The end of Slavery) on: May 07, 2013, 11:50:56 PM
Let me see if I understand what the argument is here.

1. We all get ASIC mining machines
2. We create lots of cryptocurrency coins
3. We're all rich from our cryptocurrency coins
4. We use all of our money to buy robots
5. Robots do all the work

Is that correct?

The funny thing is as we all get rich while performing the typical spiritually meaningless tasks those who manufacture and supply the robots/electronics/materials/stock/computers/exchanges etc would still earn more which would simply increase the cost of everything while continuing the same disparity of wealth. Not that I am against the OP's proposition, but if for example you create a village and fill it with only wealth people then chances are all the products/services will end up over priced and the wealthy would still feel like slaves to the wealthier, i guess the West is a live example of this concept as our idea of slavery is different to those if India, Africa and so on.

The truth is most of us in the West are not slaves physically, it is a mental form of slavery. Most of us could give up everything and go live on some isolated island in the middle of nowhere and never look back, but we "need" all those neat things that make our lives seem bearable. At least Mental slavery can be solved through many practices, we dont need robots and so on to accomplish this.

Here is yet another news article on Bitcoin, today from xinhuanet - a news media in China directly controlled by the party.
There are clearly pushing Bitcoin to the public

I am not going to translate the whole passage to you all because it is rather long and my English is not good enough to do so.
I only translate the sub-headings for you guys, you can clearly see that the whole article is positive towards Bitcoin.

Out of the 10+ paragraphs, only the last one is talking bad about Bitcoin. I can boldly conclude that there should be little to no disapproval of Bitcoin from the party. So, prepare for the stream of hungry Chinese buyers Grin

Do you really even know what your talking about? I mean, how long have you been investing? Let's be realistic here, how the hell is Bitcoin going to be anything other than a speculative mess right now? 100-160 in a day?

Imagine you are going out to buy a hotdog. You have the 5 bucks you need but just as you are about to pay its now 7 bucks. Really? The reverse is also true.

I'm all for this wealth building and hoody-ha but at the very least I think this china thing is being over hyped.

Also the biggest thing here:

SINCE WHEN WERE PREDICTIONS ABOUT WHAT THE FUTURE WAS GOING TO BE LIKE EVER CORRECT!?

Frankly I don't know whats going to happen, this BTC stuff gets deeper everyday and will likely change in ways no one expects.

Like for example what would happen, and just use your imagination if Gox went down or got seriously DDoS'd or hacked tomorrow?

Shit happens. And this is BTC we're talking about.

As more users adopt Bitcoin should become a lot more stable, that is what makes this news great! Most probably read this and think great, my BTC might go up in value and I can sell and make loads of profit. I think great because now I can sell/buy products knowing that a large amount of fellow Bitcoiners can buffer some of the volatility when the idiots do start saber rattling. Plus a growing market is also going to encourage competition, if MT Gox keeps failing that is great for Bitcoin because eventually(hopefully) people will stop using the service and switch to a better service, even if that means creating a better service from scratch.

I like how you post implies that without Mt Gox Bitcoin would self implode in a ball of flames, great imagination lol.

...

Open the directory where your miner is, right click new txt file, hit ctrl-a, rename the file to cpuminer.bat . Click yes, you want to rename the file extension. Once the batch file is made, right click on it and click edit or open with notepad. Insert the following. but with you pool url & port, and your username password and how ever many cores/threads you like to use, replace the x with a number.

minerd --url pool-url:port --userpass username.1:password --threads x
--

I am having trouble working out how to add my pool details to this string. For example does my username replace "userpass username.1" or "username" or "username.1", I am confused about the where to add the url, port and password too.

Perhaps someone could add some fake details and bold each input field?

Code:
C:\***
[2013-05-06 10:50:53] 3 miner threads started, using 'scrypt' algorithm.
[2013-05-06 10:51:15] Long-polling activated for http://ltc.kattare.com:9332/LP
[2013-05-06 10:51:15] thread 1: 4104 hashes, 7.09 khash/s
[2013-05-06 10:51:15] thread 0: 4104 hashes, 6.90 khash/s
[2013-05-06 10:51:15] thread 2: 4104 hashes, 6.81 khash/s

It seems as though it is mining and longpoll blocks are being detected, however the activity is not updating on my @ the pool. I must have the my info written in wrong or something?

This is what I input...
minerd --url http://ltc.kattare.com:9332/ --userpass username.1:*passwordhere* --threads 3

Current Offer:

1BTC is now on offer, what do you want to trade for it?
494  Economy / Marketplace / The Official Swap Chain on: May 06, 2013, 12:44:29 AM
The idea of this topic is very simple, I will kick start the trading with 1BTC...

Anyone can make an offer with an item(s) they wish to trade for my starter 1BTC offer, whether it be altcoins, physical items and so on.

Once I accept to trade the 1BTC for an item, send and I receive said item I will then offer that traded item for a new trade and the chain will repeat swapping a random assortment of different items which should lead on an interesting journey, hopefully upwards in value rather than down to 0 which would mean an end of the chain(& fun) lol. Essentially I have just kickstarted a chain of swaps and new items/currencies will be available on a regularly basis as each new transaction is completed.

I am a little weary of scammers though, it would be a shame if a scammer brakes the chain receiving my trade and not sending their offer, as a result Escrow and/or a good rep and transaction history is ideal for the success of the chain to keep it going. Physical items can be traded although PP might cause issues and would slow down the trade so it is likely Crypto will flow through the chain most of the time, as long as the general consensus is that the offer is off similar value then their is a possibility of trade. Feel free to help the chain grow by giving you opinions on available trade offers too.

Providing people participate I will record all the transactions that are made so we can see where the 1BTC starter leads us.

It would be fun to see a forum experiment conducted where a large proportion of the forum performs a specific (minimal effect)task at a certain time just to see the results of said experiment. This could cause issues so maybe it is for the best that we explore this idea no further.  Tongue

BBQ flavored condoms.

I have heard this mentioned a few times during the development of Cryptocondoms, great idea although realistically I might have trouble finding a manufacture to produce condom of that particular flavor  Cheesy. Perhaps I could pack some BBQ sauce and label it as BBQCoin lube or something instead lol? Keep voting and you can also put your name down for a specific alt-coin Crpytocondom as supply will be on a first cum first serve basis, those higher up the list will be contacted first until I am out of stock.

Feel free to suggest some fun taglines too.
I wouldn't pack BBQ sauce with it and label it BBQCoin lube, or if you do that, at least don't take one with chili peppers in it, just in case someone mistakenly thinks it's real lube and things get a little bit too hot in the bedroom Tongue

In a perfect world I could do that as a joke and people would see the funny side, in the real world they would try to sue me. I do like the idea of packaging additional items with the Crpytocondoms though lol, perhaps just for extra limited editions. I might send some to World leaders and media networks to help promote the Crypto message.  Grin

Mixed opinions then, I guess I should have made a simple yes or no poll. If this forum does have influence then I think it is safe to say that influence will die down relative to growing adoption.
