I smoked marijuana a few times when i was younger. It just makes you dizzy and tired. Marijuana is just a hardcore marlboro. It doesn't make butterflies flying in your head. Only a headache.

Pretty sure it fcks up your body too. I really don't care who smokes and who doesn't but it sure makes you lazy and capitalism don't want lazy people around. They want you to work. That's why it is forbidden almost everywhere around the world.

No, it's actually forbidden because some people in power in America in the 1930s had ulterior motives for its prohibition.

It was partly because they didn't like the influx of Mexican immigrants at that time, who used marijuana recreationally. So the use of marijuana was associated with poor Mexicans/jazz clubs etc. There was also a conflict of interest, because hemp fiber competed with the cotton industry and nylon  made by Du Pont. Whaddya know, the guys in power were good friends with the guys from Du Pont, and some people running the cotton industry, so in 1937, they banned marijuana, because REEFER MADNESS!!!

Propaganda at its finest, and it still influences the world today. For example, Japan used to have tens of thousands of cannabis farms, but now it has a strict anti-cannabis stance - this began after the American control of Japan after the 2nd World War.

It's all very interesting, if a little depressing...
483  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Drug That Killed Prince Is Making Mexican Cartels Richer, U.S. Says on: June 13, 2016, 10:05:41 PM
Well, until more of these drugs are legalised and taxed the cartels will continue to make money. The war on drugs, is essentially America fighting a war against itself. If the demand is there, people will find a way to buy these drugs while jumping through all sorts of hoops to get it.

I agree with you. War on drugs is the reason of many deaths, from the war itself and from the poor quality drugs people buy because they can't just go to a pharmacy and buy the controlled stuff of high quality.

Good posts, the point here is that criminalising users of drugs like these is literally killing people. The USA is seeing an unprecedented rise in deaths due to opiate OD at the moment: a 200% increase in the rate of overdose deaths involving opioids year 2000-2014

Fentanyl itself is an interesting (yet morbid) development in the drug war, because it is far more potent (50-100x) than heroin and is easily available and very cheap. That means that it is used to cut heroin, and even sold masquerading as other drugs such as Xanax. There is a huge problem right now with people making fake Xanax pills that contain Fentanyl, designed for the black market.

The problem is that someone could easily OD on Fentanyl, especially if they think they're just taking a Xanax pill. More victims of the war on drugs.

The vast majority of drug related deaths are due to contaminated or fake product - Legalise, tax, regulate the supply, educate the people.

Yes, you did indeed see a curve and your photograph does indeed show a curve. The window in the airplane is curved to fit the body and this creates a convex lens that slightly distorts the image seen.

That may be true with some windows, but the curve when looking through a lens changes depending on the position of your head. Look at these different photos using different lenses:

As you can see, the two distorted wide-angle shots on the left show the curves on the top and bottom of the shot bending in opposite ways. By moving your viewpoint up or down (or your head up or down inside the plane), different parts of the image would bend more. Your theory of windows making the earth look curved doesn't make any sense.

The great thing about using distorted images is that you can twist them to fit any lie. An airplane window is not a perfectly level 8mm wide-angle camera lens. Angle those cameras a bit you've got a nice subtle curve to your horizon.

Tbh, I'm not even sure that commercial aircraft go high enough to properly see the curvature of the Earth, apparently it was visible from Concorde, definitely from a U2.

I'm more interested in the spotlight sun/moon and the sky projector I mentioned earlier, can you shed any light on them?

"Nukie". It's a sort of E.T. ripoff filmed in Africa. Nukie is a disgusting looking annoying alien looking for his friend.

I just tried to watch this film because I'd heard it was one of the worst films ever made. I thought it would be funny, but I couldn't do it, had to stop watching after 10 mins, had a little skip through the rest of it and was almost sick. This film is truly, horrifically awful. The IMDb reviews are hilarious, well worth a little read:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107715/reviews?ref_=tt_ql_3

Some memorable quotes:

"The plot line is like watching actors trying to break out of their usual roles of down's syndrome porn, and the main character looks like a deep-fried shag carpet soaked in cheese made rancid manlove to ET's bastard cousin."

"Nukie is painful enough to make small children cower in the corner for days and make grown men weep."

[describing the alien main character] "Nukie looks like a cross between a retarded bushbaby, a rotten potato, and a burlap sack full of horse manure."

"I have now seen this movie four times, and every time it takes a piece of my soul back to hell with it. There are no words that can adequately describe what viewing this movie does to you. Some have said it is like watching a train wreck, in that you have to keep watching even though it is horrible. It is more like watching the annihilation of humanity. Nukie is nihilism. Nukie saps you of the will to live and leaves you wandering though the void of nothingness, for after seeing it you know in your heart that there cannot possibly be meaning in a universe which contains Nukie. There are some things that happen to you in life that change who you are forever. Nukie is one of those things."

"If, by grace of God, you were epileptic, Nukie might just trigger a seizure. This would hopefully prevent you from watching the rest of this film."

"I hate God for allowing this film to be made"

EDIT: Here is a picture of Nukie with some of his friends. The costume is even worse in video, they tried to rig the eyes to blink to make it more realistic, but his eyes just sort of twitch halfway closed, and out of sync with each other. It's horrific to watch.

definitely Kung Fury... gosh this movie suck

I think you missed the joke. That film is meant to be bad, it's like a satire of silly 80s action movies. You know when a film is "so bad it's good"?
I thought it was hilarious myself! Plus the soundtrack is absolutely awesome!

Hi guys! Need your help. This is actually the first time I planning to get one and I don't have that much idea with Vape.

But what do you think of the Quntaw full mech mod.
Planning on getting one from my friend.

https://www.google.com.ph/search?q=quntaw+vape&biw=1373&bih=666&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjPxfqXrKXNAhXGoZQKHefYBoYQ_AUIBigB&dpr=0.75#imgrc=B1UYg5cUZHHtsM%3A

HITTI2 is the expert here, but as a vaper of about 6 months I'll give you my opinion. I wouldn't go for a mech mod as a beginner, they need a bit of expertise to set up. I would go for a smallish box mod kit, I just bought a Joyetech VTC mini Cubis kit, and would highly recommend it. Cost about £50 with a battery.

I have a few different tanks I use with it, the Aspire Cleito is great for big flavour and satisfying clouds. The Cubis tank that came with it is pretty good too.

One piece of advice - if you are trying to give up smoking then I would recommend a "mouth-to-lung" tank, basically they're designed to simulate the way you smoke a cigarette, sucking the smoke into your mouth first, before inhaling. I use an Aspire Nautilus with this juice called "Chiricahua Sun", it has a sweet tobacco base with biscuity, hazelnut overtones. In my other tanks I prefer the fruity/dessert type flavours but this stuff is epic with morning coffee!

489  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 5 reasons for global marijuana legalization on: June 13, 2016, 04:00:57 PM
...

Research funded by the US government (Yes, the same people

who schedule it as a drug with no medicinal value, shows that marijuana acts on the same receptors of the brain as

benzodiazepine drugs do
, which are prescribed as a commercial treatment for generalized anxiety disorder today. Of

course, cannabis is less stronger, which also makes it less addictive, and it bears none of the side effects that the

pharmaceutical drugs do. There have been very few deaths attributed to medicinal marijuana use. There are none that I am

aware of.

...

First of all, great post, I agree with the vast majority of what you said in your OP. But I disagree with you here on the pharmacology of marijuana/THC vs benzodiazepines, the bolded part. Can you source this research, I'd really like to read it.

Firstly, benzodiazepines and the chemicals in marijuana are totally different drug classes, with different mechanisms of action:

THC mainly affects the cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2 primarily), but it does also have an effect on GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). It has been known to inhibit GABA.

Benzodiazepines on the other hand, are GABA receptor agonists, this is their main mechanism of action. This means they increase the efficiency of GABA on the brain. More GABA/higher efficiency of GABA makes the brain relaxed, whereas inhibition of GABA has the opposite effect (some speculate this is why some people get paranoid/uncomfortable on high THC strains).

So put simply, THC and benzodiazepines have opposite effects on GABA.

However, I suspect that some of the other cannabinoids in cannabis such as CBD may have different effects on GABA in the brain - this is a hot area of research right now (for the scientists lucky enough to be legally allowed to research it  Angry Angry Angry)

What you say about the addictiveness is 100% true, benzos are extremely addictive, and withdrawal is one of the worst around, some say even worse than heroin and alcohol. You can get seizures which can kill you if you cold turkey from a long-term benzo habit. However don't forget that weed is mildly addictive as well.

Couple more corrections - the addictiveness of a drug is not because it is "stronger", it is to do with the drugs action on the body. And marijuana certainly does have side-effects, some of which are the same or similar to pharmaceutical drugs. All "pharmaceutical" means is that the drug has been tested and patented - for example in the UK a company called GW Pharma have a pharmaceutical drug called "Sativex". It is an extracted combo of THC and CBD, taken from weed grown in their secret growing labs here in the UK! (side note, I'm thinking about buying some stock in their company, think they could do very well when weed gets legalised in more states/countries, my stock tip for the day)

There is a common attitude among some of my friends, which is that "natural=good, synthetic/pharmaceutical=bad", and it's nonsense. Everything is chemicals, some good, some bad, some natural, some synthetic, some patented, some not. Botulinum Toxin is a barrel of laughs, 100% natural and the, uuhm, most potent toxin known to man...  Wink

As a personal note, I used to smoke quite a lot but haven't for a while - the effects were not pleasant anymore and made me lose motivation and become anti-social in my life. It's certainly not a cure-all wonder drug like some people say, but does have major medical and recreational use for many, with an incredibly safe track record.

I 100% support the legalisation of weed (and all drugs in fact), but I also think that more education is needed, and of course more research into the benefits/dangers of marijuana.

So flat-earthers, the sun and moon are spotlights, and we are surrounded by a dome 30,000 miles in diameter, right? What powers the spotlights, who built them, and how do they function (suspended from wire/gimbals/anti-gravity etc.)?

More to the point, who designed the projector that displays the planetarium-like lightshow we see at night, how many lumens does it have, where is it located and how is it powered? Must be a serious piece of kit...

Almost identical to this one. Not that weird but pretty cool!
493  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The vaccine science EVOLUTION contradiction (video) on: June 13, 2016, 01:54:33 PM
What a ridiculous premise, no-one is saying humans would go extinct without vaccines - there would almost certainly be small numbers of people with natural immunity that would survive.

Without vaccines however there would be huge percentages of people that would suffer terribly and die. Do some reading about smallpox and how its (near) eradication saved millions of lives. Take a good look at this graph and have a read of the following link.

https://ourworldindata.org/eradication-of-diseases/

In fact, ironically bacteria and viruses are very good evidence for evolution, because we can see them evolving in front of our very eyes! Some good examples would be H5N1 and HIV. You remember all that speculation that Ebola could become airborne? Very speculative, but based solidly on the theory of evolution and natural selection.

PS. Try sourcing your information from actual scientific outlets, rather than ridiculous websites like this. You think the owners themselves believe half of the stuff they post?? They are no more than cash cows, preying on the paranoid population and laughing all the way to the bank with their ad revenue cheque.
494  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dead Gorilla on: June 13, 2016, 01:29:10 PM
If you're sad that the Gorilla died, don't be.
Death is always natural in the animal realm and is never feared or avoided. The cause of death is of no importance whatsoever to animals, whether through experiments in a lab or naturally in a forest.
You have your tears and a world you choose to be part of. They have a world you're not part of and they don't have tears.

Nice post, you've hit the philosophical nail on the head here I think, and the irony of an army of people protesting the death of the gorilla.

The reason everyone is so upset, is because they have the high-level emotional and cognitive capacity to "care" about other beings, in a way that other animals cannot. There's a strong philosophical argument that this empathy and intelligence makes a human life worth more than that of other animals.
495  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What do you think about 9/11 mystery? on: June 13, 2016, 01:18:29 PM
Big logical question still not answered by the Truthers:

If there was a controlled demolition, why were there planes as well? One or the other makes some sense, but not both.

Hint: if the building was blown up, why not just fabricate a plot that it was blown up by terrorists?

If there were just planes, why not just leave it at that and say the terrorists flew the planes? Even if the buildings hadn't have fallen (even though Spendulus has clearly shown with pretty low level physics that they could easily have fallen), the attack would still have killed hundreds or thousands and had a similar overall psychological end result on the American people.

Still waiting...

America more than any country (except maybe Japan) is a movie country. Seeing is believing, especially if it is movie style.

The point was to get the buildings to fall, and make it look like Arab terrorists, so government had an excuse to go into Iraq and Afghanistan, and give Silverstein the asbestos clean-up he wanted.

Spendy's low level physics doesn't take into account the unknown, or the high level physics that went into building the Towers.

Less than 3000 were killed. There is enough ongoing investigation and questioning by many. Don't make the number too large or there would be a lot more truther questioning.

Cool

You said a lot of words, but didn't answer the question. See bolded.

There was no logical need for the towers to fall, all that was needed (if we follow your narrative of an inside job) was a huge spectacular attack on American soil. That could have been terrorists blowing up a building, OR terrorists flying planes into a building.

To formulate a secret inside job that involved BOTH of these factors adds massive extra layers of cost and risk, with insubstantial reward. Do you understand what I mean by that? By doing it the hard way, you're making your inside job exponentially more expensive, harder to plan, and much easier to get leaked, without enough payback at the end.

Just one of the two factors (bombs/planes) would give the government an excuse to go to war.

Hypothetically, If it was my choice, I'd choose the planes - less personnel involvement, easier to pull off, and even if the towers "couldn't have possibly fallen" they would still need to destroy them afterwards - good luck repairing the damage and convincing health and safety officials that the towers are safe to use again. And guaranteed, the controlled destruction of the twin towers weeks later would be televised and have a psychological impact on the American people.

Two birds one stone, see what I mean?

This idea that a animal is worth more than a human being is something that has been building momentum in the last say 20 years.

At least in this case, the life of the animal was worth much more than the life of the human being. There are more than 7 billion human beings in the world, and on average 200,000 of them die every day. On the other hand, there are only a few tens of thousands of western lowland gorillas remaining in the world. In short, the life of this living being:

is worth much more than the life of these subhumans:

Nice logic there, so your point is basically the less individual organisms that exist in the world, the more their life is worth?

So I guess you would agree that, as an example, smallpox virus is worth more than most other organisms on the planet? You would sacrifice humans to save the smallpox virus?

In my opinion, the number of organisms is an overly simplified crude argument, we should look at a more philosophical idea of the cognitive/emotional capacity of animals and also of our obligation as a civilised human society to protect our own kind.

I would have preferred if they'd used tranquilizers, but they made the decision to kill the gorilla to save a human, in case the tranquilizers took to long to work and the human died as a result. True, the gorilla is an excpetionally intelligent animal, but a human is worth more in my opinion.

This is a very sad situation, but I believe they made the right choice. Your poor "numbers" argument is flawed.
498  Economy / Economics / Forex/stock trading speculation for upcoming BREXIT vote? on: May 31, 2016, 07:14:28 PM
So I've been thinking about dabbling in some trading before/during the Brexit vote, the markets are going to be volatile.

Other than a likely drop in Sterling if the Leave campaign emerges strongly, anyone got any other tips/tactics they're willing to share?

I'm sure there are certain company stocks that could be bought/shorted both in the run up and in the days after the vote, depending on the result. Post your trading speculation here, even if you're not actually trading you can still bask in the glory of a correct prediction!

Gundam series for Mecha. Im robot freak.

Im looking for old and obscure anime suggestions, maybe something as Wicked city or anything cyber culture related.  Cool

Psycho-Pass is a pretty good cyberpunk anime, I recommend watching with subs because the dub is a bit american and annoying IMO.
Texhnolyze is cool, I watched it quite a few years ago but I loved it at the time.

I assume you've seen GitS films, they are amazing, the series was OK but nothing on the films. Also Akira, obviously.

I also am looking for some more anime suggestions, I liked Attack on Titan and Death Note but I find most of these "shonen" style animes a bit childish, I like my animes dark and brutal.

Urotsukidoji is a lot of fun, if you're down with the tentacle rape lol. It's pretty cheesy but quite hilarious IMO.
500  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What do you think about 9/11 mystery? on: May 20, 2016, 10:56:07 PM
There was a Middle East king who had 3 ambassadors. He wanted to make one of them his prime minister. So he devised a test to find out which of the three was most qualified.

The king had the 3 guys sit down in a circle (triangle?) facing each other. Then he showed them 5 little stones in his hand. Two of the stones were black, and three of them where white.

Then the king walked around the 3 guys and placed a little white stone in the top-front of the turban of each. He positioned the stones where an ambassador could not see the stone in the top of his own turban, but the other two could see it easily. The king tucked the two black stones away in his robe without revealing which stones he had tucked away.

Then the king said, "The man who can tell me the color of the stone in his own turban can be my prime minister. But if you guess, and you guess wrong, it is off with your head. In addition, no cheating, or it is off with your head."

The guys sat and thought about it for a while. But finally one of the guys said, "I can't figure this out. I give up. It isn't worth guessing about." A short time later a second ambassador said essentially the same thing, and gave up, as well.

The third ambassador jumped up and said, "I have a white stone." He knew he had a white stone. He wasn't guessing. How did he know that he had a white stone?

There is a logical way to figure out how he knew that he had a white stone. It doesn't have anything to do with guessing, or with the idea that the other two guys gave up anyway. When you figure it out, apply that kind of reasoning to what we know about 9/11, and you will see that the official story is one of the worst conspiracy theories of all.

Cool

So the first guy thinks that if he has a black stone, then guy number 2 would know that if he also has a black stone guy number 3 would have said "I have a white stone". But he doesn't. The same applies to guy number 3 - if he had a black stone as well as guy number 1, then number 2 would have shouted out.

Because both guy number 2 and number 3 give up, he concludes that he must have a white stone. If he was the only guy with the black stone, one of the other guys could have worked out that their stones was white because neither claimed to have the white stone.

I think this is a solution, but I think that it does depend on the 2 guys giving up, I don't see how the logic problem is solvable without the 2 guys giving up. I also don't see how this applies to the topic.

Here's one for you:

Two 9/11 conspiracy theorists die in a plane crash, reach the afterlife and come face to face with God, who tells them:

"You may enter heaven my children"

So one of the conspiracy theorists asks God "Before we go, there's one thing we'd like to ask you..."

"Go ahead my child, what do you wish to know?"

"Well, who was actually responsible for the 9/11 attacks?"

God replies, "It was the muslim extremists, Al Quaeda and Osama bin Laden of course, they hijacked planes and caused the whole atrocity!"

One conspiracy theorist turns to the other and says:

"Shit man, this conspiracy goes way higher up than we realized!"

From 2 Corinthians 11:14
Quote
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

The conspiracy theorists didn't make it to Heaven at all.

Cool

Wat?

I just told you they did. This post I'm writing right now has just as much integrity as the bible. They are both things written by men.

So you're saying that "God" in my joke is actually satan? How do you know? And why didn't the conspiracy theorists go to heaven? Aren't you going to heaven?

More to the point, did I get your logic question right, and wtf does it have to do with 9/11? Also did you get the joke? Good, right?
