4841  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1 Billion in Bitcoin Options Expire Friday. on: September 24, 2020, 06:45:15 AM
Ah all the while I thought it would be futures that were expiring. Seems like this is a record, so what should we expect? Dump to 9k? I mean that should be the minimum to expect a 10% drop right? Or are we talking for the moment a dip temporarily as you suggest? Not that this affects me anyhow,,, buy everytime for me;)

Generally the way it works is market makers sometimes can move price to a "max pain" area where they generate the most profit by moving the spot price by buying or selling. This happens more often in stocks. If some market maker wrote $10,000,000 worth of contracts that expire at $11000 they would do their best to protect the $11K resistance.

However keep in kind that this knowledge only works IF price is very close to the strike price and expiry date. Since $12K is far away there is no market maker that is going to try and push price that high in such little time. Maybe if the strike price was $10K it would be of move significance. So say 1 hour before expiry there is a large crash below $10K and then it starts to move up, means go long because the market maker is closing the large short they opened earlier to push price down.

@adaseb i looked them up it goes for about 50-120$ on ebay sometimes even lower
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=4+tesla+k10+server&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=4gpu+

also i can buy a full dell r710 servers with power supply and full parts form 1-300$ yes 1$ running 2gpus

Even though you can get those 2 GPUs for $300 there is no point because you can't mine with them. I did some Googling and some people got the K10 to mine ETH but they only got 1.5 MH/s. So it would take you pretty much over a month to make the same profit as a typical $100 RX series GPU can make in a day.

Generally those servers usually are very cheap because there is little demand for them. Hardware is outdated and most home users don't want a loud computer like that with those 10K RPM mini fans that cool the PSU.

Motherboards, CPUs, and RAM are pretty cheap these days. You can probably get some Socket 1150 for like $75-$100. You don't need a fast processor. Celeron should do it.
4843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore mixed hash rates on: September 24, 2020, 06:30:56 AM
https://share.icloud.com/photos/0y4_kCcxTa7UtxZnCGL0jdGVg

So I have 8 RX 580 GPU

On cudominer I was getting 140-168 mh/s. I tried over clocking but only 7 out of 8 gpu would ever get 100% utilisation. I am currently trying claymore but 2 cards are only doing 9mh/s

If you are getting 9MH/s it usually means that they are running at 300mhz engine core clock and not the operating engine core clock. With Claymore did you manually in the config file put in any overclocking values such as -vddc -cclock -mclock ? Maybe take those values out because they are causing issues.

If that is not your problem then try and plug in a monitor OR hdmi emulator cable to the GPUs which are running slower. Some operating systems and some GPUs only run at 300Mhz unless you got a monitor plugged into them. Usually you only need to plug it into the main PCIe 0 slot (x16 rail) and the rest should follow.
4844  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we at the first sell off point now?. on: September 22, 2020, 10:32:39 PM
Basically the stock market and crypto markets are highly correlated because bitcoin is considered a risk-on asset. You can pretty much get a head start shorting or longing crypto just by looking at what the stock markets are doing. Look for the last few trading days for global markets and see how when the NY markets opened and headed downwards crypto followed shortly after.

So basically if the stock markets keep correcting for the next few weeks so will bitcoin. If there is some major stock market crash where the circuit breakers keep going off then there can be a massive crash as in March 2020. However nobody knows exactly when this will happen. This all could be nothing but a dip in the stock market which was needed for a major correction.

The NASDAQ is only 12% down from the ATH, which is not at all too concerning. It would be concerning if it was -20% from the ATH which is considered a bear market and might lead to higher sell-offs and crypto would shortly follow.
4845  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: can someone help? on: September 22, 2020, 10:18:41 PM
The Tesla GPUs are usually server chassis type of GPUs and they are for workstation and generally very expensive and there isn't any optimization for them. Since there is no algos for them then they will perform poorly mining most type of coins.

There are hundreds of thousands of RX series or Nvidia GTX series GPUs so miner developers design an algo optimization for those. However the Tesla GPUs are very rare and unless you hire some developer yourself you will get very low hash rate.

My advice just send them to eBay and buy some RX 570/580 GPUs with 8GB of ram. They are dirt cheap.

bios mod is just setting the same timings from 1500mhz straps to other higher freqs ?
Or is it a bios with other improved settings ?

I did only that : https://mineshop.eu/2020/03/03/bios-modified-rx5700-how-to-edit-timings-10-speed-increase/

Its just to modify the higher straps with the 1500mhz strap. That's what most people do. However some people update the clock settings so they don't need to use an overclocking program like MSI afterburn on every start-up and update the voltage profiles so they don't have to use WattMan to undervolt on every start up.

So besides the straps for 1600Mhz+ and the core engine/memory clocks and voltage there isn't much to change. Changing anything else can damage the GPU and you shouldn't play around with random values. These days you don't need to modify even the straps, some miners do it for you on the fly. However those don't always work, like in my case so I had to mod the straps.
4847  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Legit trading courses on: September 22, 2020, 03:53:08 AM
The people that make the Youtube videos they generally make an income off their ad revenue, so they are getting something in return. So they can say whatever just to get you to tune in everyday and will be happy because they are getting views. However we all know how much money Youtube brings, last I heard its like $1 per 1000 views or so. And crypto is pretty niche, so a top youtuber maybe can get 10K views per day, so thats like $10.

If this person was so good at trading why waste time, editing videos, promoting the videos to make $10 when they can make 5-6 figures weekly just trading themselves? Exactly. Same with the courses and those trading signals. Why charge people $100/month for a signal service where they will front-run you when you can just trade yourself and make 100x as much.

Its common sense why all these promoters and ebook and courses exist, is because they have no idea how to make money so they want to make money by teaching instead. Its just like real estate courses. So many of them out there because its easy teaching how to sell a house but difficult getting clients and actually getting commission.
4848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: which one RX 580 8G OC 256 Bit - RX570 8GB 256Bit on: September 22, 2020, 03:45:53 AM
Basically if you got free or cheap power then you can get the RX 580 8GB and you will get slightly faster speeds due to a higher possible core engine overclock. So instead of running it at 1150/2000 which is was more people run it at, you can get away with something like 1250 or 1300 core engine and get a little faster speeds using higher voltage. On the 570, the engine core clock can't go as high. Go read some Gamer benchmarks between the 2 and you will see. Makes sense because why buy 580 if the 570 is the same speed.

Regarding memory both are the same. The 8GB models can run at 2100Mhz which allows you to get like 31-33MH/s while the 4GB models can run at 2000Mhz max (most of my GPUs only run 1950) and you get 28-29MHs. So as long as you get the 8GB model you can run at 2100Mhz and get a good speed. If you got free power then can extract extra speed out of a higher engine clock but not really by much.
4849  Economy / Speculation / Re: Federal Reserve Now Targets Inflation Above 2%, Bitcoin Breaks $11K on: September 22, 2020, 03:41:02 AM
True asset inflation is already running at ~6-8%/year.

The Fed is full of shit. How they measure yearly inflation is a lie.

Yeah, if you live in Malaysia since the 1990s, where the government feels so proud to announce annual inflation every year at about 1%, but you see your coffee and meals price go up 10% every year, paying 2x as much in just less than 10 years, then you realize the silly money and economics games that all governments play to keep you less worried than you ought to be. Our faith lies in Bitcoin.

One reason why governments do this is because most people don't even know how inflation works exactly. And even less people know how the real inflation works. Basically my dad was given a raise every year which was like inflation + 1% or so. And he was happy. I told him you are getting ripped off. And he didn't understand. He looked at the bank stats and he assumed his pay rates were fair however I told him why are you paying double for heat now as compared to 10 years ago! Are you wages double? Probably not.

So employers I guess are happy that the government makes inflation 2%, so they can give their employees a 2% raise every year and most will be happy. However employers probably increase their costs by more than 2% to account for increased costs. Hence why people are buying real estate, bitcoin, stocks, etc. Because cash is becoming more and more useless as time goes on.
4850  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we biased? on: September 22, 2020, 03:36:18 AM
Bitcoin has never been in a recession before. People were always wondering how will bitcoin perform in a recession. Most people assumed that people would sell stocks and buy bitcoin however its clearly not the case. If you watch SP500, Gold and other asset you will see that bitcoin follows those assets. Today it had a small dump and it was due to the SP500 hitting new lows.

The reason why is because bitcoin and crypto traders are closely monitoring the global markets before making a bias on bitcoin. So before they take a trade they look and see what Sp500 is doing. If SP500 has a massive crash, crypto traders know that bitcoin will follow so they all start shorting it. The reverse is also true but not always. When SP500 goes up, sometimes Bitcoin follows.

In general people are bias to what asset or stock they hold. If you hold Apple will you tell people to buy PC instead or Android phones? Probably not.
4851  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency btc futures leverage trading is scam on: September 21, 2020, 11:02:13 PM
The issue with leverage exchanges like futures is that they allow up to 100x and it's very easy to get caught in a liquidation spike. Generally you should look at the funding rates and if the rates are against you then you need to stay alert.

What I mean is when there is a large positive funding then that means many are long. When negative many are short. Usually this happens when there is a large strong trend and it keeps trending and late people join the market using high leverage and ends up raising the funding rate. Then what happens is there is a cascade of liquidatons when all these wrong trades rush for the door with small liquidity. Remember what happened back in March on Bitmex? This is why futures trading is very risky compared to buying on spot or regular margin.
4852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what to mine with low ram on: September 21, 2020, 10:52:36 PM
The way VPS works is that everything is shared. So if a CPU has 20 cores, they rent out all 20 of them. Limit the CPU usage to 100% for each one and maybe they split the ram also. However 256mb is so little most operating systems can't even start with this little unless it's unix.

Students usually get some type of promo for VPS so this is why every week there is someone making a topic here asking "how to mine Bitcoin with VPS". Usually the VPS forbids any type of mining since it hogs resources, especially with free promo accounts.

The only coin that I recall that was profitable with VPS was maybe Zcoin back in 2017 days.
4853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What hardware to invest around 200k to? on: September 20, 2020, 09:19:35 PM
$200,000 is alot. Are you sure you got enough room for all this equipment? Say $300 a GPU that's over 666 GPUs which is around ~100 rigs or so. Are you planning on keeping this in your basement at home? I am not sure it would even fit.

You can also just buy some BTC ASICs and mine with those instead. They cost a little more... but the lower efficient ones are cheaper. They take up less real estate but they are much more louder... However I don't think thats going to be an issue because 666 GPU's are also going to make alot of noise.

Regarding mining ETH... keep in mind one day it will go POS and your hardware won't be able to mine ETH anyways. So do you due diligence.
4854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: B250 mining expert no bios, no signal to screen on: September 19, 2020, 06:45:49 PM
This being an open air rig, you never bothered hooking up the Audio PINs to the basic Speaker located on the computer case correct? Where the pins are for the RESET and POWER ON and LEDS etc there are some pins for the Speaker. You need to hook this up to some computer case speaker.

Then when you power on the computer, it will beep and the amount of beeps will let you know what is going on. I had this issue before. Hooked up an old computer speaker. It beeped a certain amount of times and let me know that the RAM wasn't fully in the slot. So I reinserted the ram and it finally booted.
4855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.1c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: September 19, 2020, 06:40:56 PM
Just run it with -bench 375 (or whatever EPOCH you want to test) and see if it starts. Mine if I recall stops at Epoch 380 or somewhere there under Ubuntu. However depending on your setup it might be a few Epoch before or few Epoch after. Best way is to just run the benchmark and see if yours fail to load the DAG.

You will know because your rig will instacrash when creating the DAG. Mine starts to create the DAG and then all of a sudden it stops 25% or so and basically the rig freezes to the point where you need to literally pull the power plug and do a cold reboot. This is why I didn't want to pinpoint it exactly to what DAG it stops because its harmfull to the computer parts to keep pulling the power cord while its running. However the limit is somewhere between 375-380 or so.
4856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum fees are crazy... on: September 19, 2020, 03:57:41 AM
Right now the fees are pretty much back to normal according to,

https://etherscan.io/gastracker

You can do a ~100 Gwei ($1 per transaction) which will confirm within 10 minutes or so. However I know that earlier this week this figure was up to like $7-8 per transaction. Generally whenever there is some craze like the UTI token distribution the fees will always be very high. My advice is just to wait it out unless its an emergency, just send it anyways and when the fees lower it should confirm.

This isn't the first time this happened. Last month we had this issue with the DeFI transactions before the Sushi blowup and even last year or so with the CryptoKitties or whatever it was called. Hence this is why scaling is very important for ETH and BTC.
4857  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Uniswap increased 75% on: September 19, 2020, 03:54:17 AM
Yes its pretty crazy how it increased in value so much in the past few hours. I was basically mining ETH and all of a sudden I was getting multiples types of rewards for every block by my pool. I knew something was up. Looked at the fees they were like 700 Gwei, so it was the UNI token distribution.

People were claiming it and dumping it like crazy.... however price went up anyways. I was expecting it to go below $1 at least.... chop around for a few days before it started to recover however it was still pumping while people were claiming the token.

I guess those that heard about it late must of made a killing since it topped at $8 and everyone got 400 UTI each. $3200 for nothing pretty much. Free money.
4858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: When will Antminer E3 stop mining ETH? on: September 19, 2020, 03:38:34 AM
If you want a concrete answer when it will stop mining exactly then just try mining ETC instead which is about 11 DAG Epoch ahead of ETH. Every DAG is about 5 days so its 55 days ahead of ETC. So switch pools temporarily and see if it works...

If it works then you have until at least middle of November to mine ETH. If it doesn't then you obviously only got a month left or so.

I know a few people who scored a good deal on these E3's when everyone panic sold them back in April... only for bitmain to release an update a few weeks later. Either way it will most likely be a brick in a month or 2 since there really isn't anything else to mine with Daggerhashimoto.
4859  Economy / Speculation / Re: at 100K will Normington, NPC's, the masses, etc fomo and bail in? on: September 18, 2020, 08:43:54 PM
I think the retail market will enter way before $100K most likely if we break the ATH again like we did in 2017. Remember how we broke $1K ATH, and then hit $2K? If you look at the volumes with the retail onramp exchanges like Coinbase you will see that a bunch of retail market entered around the $3-4K range, and you can even use the Google trends for "bitcoin" as a guage.

Right now the retail market is all in the stock market, particularly the option markets. Go to wallstreetbets and you got people taking their life savings of $5K-$100K and instead of buying blue chip stocks like Apple they are buying Apple options (or TSLA). You can see fortunes made, posts like $3K->$500K and also fortunes lost $750K->$50K. And there are numerious amount of people who got thru these cycles. This market will not enter the crypto markets just yet.
4860  Economy / Speculation / Re: Federal Reserve Now Targets Inflation Above 2%, Bitcoin Breaks $11K on: September 18, 2020, 08:40:34 PM
Yes inflation is not only going to be 2% a year. Going back 10 years or so, besides gasoline it seems everything has pretty much doubled in price. I remember going to the grocery store and usually spending $100 for weekly food. And now its pretty much double that. Same with heating bills, electricity, insurance, etc. Heck look at iPhone prices, the first iPhones were like $500 and now they are over $1000.

There is some index called the "Burrito index" and if you search for it on Google it represents a good value of inflation because it uses the average burrito prices throughout the years. Its accurate because it takes into account the cost of the restaurant serving the burrito, the cost of the ingredients, etc. However I am not sure its being updated anymore.
