4081  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining question on: March 20, 2021, 08:48:09 PM
I would not say it’s a long term investment because the profits are very hard to predict and can change on a weekly to weekly basis.

You can’t just spend $2000 on a rig which will make you $5/day and expect to make the same amount of profit a year from now. There is something called difficulty which reduces your rewards when more people are mining and there is the price of the coin itself which can easily double or halve within a few months.

4082  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: molex to pwoer the risers on: March 20, 2021, 05:03:49 AM
Yes generally the weak-point is the cheap SATA connector on the riser. Its badly built and its what usually ends up melting first. In my opinion when they include these SATA connectors and knowing that people will pull more than 50Watts from it, they should at least make it more robust. I think the issue is that its not a tight connection as a retail SSD or HDD. Those are usually hard to connect and disconnect.

The SATA connector to risers is not as tight and you can feel that there is a small gap which will lead to a bad connection and obviously something end up melting. Even if the connector was good I would just avoid using the SATA connection all together. Molex or PCIe is much safer and don't need toworry about anything.
4083  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PC becomes Sluggish while Mining, how to solve it? on: March 20, 2021, 04:59:05 AM
Easiest way to fix this is to just use your onboard video card. Look in your computer case and you will see a DVI or HDMI connector that is located on the motherboard, not on the GPU. Plug your monitor in there.

If you start your computer and got a blank screen, you need to enable it in bios first. So plug back into GPU the monitor, go into bios and enable onboard video. Then you should get a display.

Now you can mine at the same time without slowing down your computer or mining speed. Only issue you might encounter is the GPU might not work unless a monitor is plugged in. If that is the case then you need a HDMI dummy plug.

A Laptop does not always have a cpu with a gpu.

he may only have the 6700xt gpu

Ahh my bad. I misread this post and didn't realise it was a laptop. I heard 6700xt and assumed it must of been a discrete GPU inside a desktop. And I think you are correct. There won't be any onboard graphics that way.

Even if the CPU has a built in GPU, most likely the mainboard won't have a HDMI connector on the laptop to save space. Because why would anyone want to use onboard video when you got an 6700xt GPU instead.

Basically like the previous poster said above, only way is to lower the intensity and should work.
4084  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price would hit $288,000 this year, according to this metric on: March 20, 2021, 04:52:28 AM
It might reach $288K or it might not. The important thing to do is take profits from time to time. Imagine if back in 2017 you were waiting for $20K which never actually happened, price went to $19.7K or so. You would of missed out.

Sure if it ends up going to $250K its unfortunate if you sell half of your BTC at $50K or $100K however keep in mind that its easier for bitcoin to do a 20x going from $1K to $20K than it is a 20x going from $20K to $400K. Look at the overall market cap.

Basically its reaching the point of where its almost unsustainable. Imagine how much money it would take to support a huge price of like $250K bitcoin.
4085  Economy / Speculation / Re: get a loan and reinvest it on: March 19, 2021, 10:54:21 PM
You need to becareful with all these DeFI smart contracts. Every week or so there is some new exploit discovered where people get all their money stolen.

If you really want to do this do it either by using Gemini Earn where you get like 7-8% per year. Or use something like a futures broker and just profit off the premium. Currently the September futures has a 12% premium so in about 12 months its about 24%.

If you got good credit you can probably get an unsecured loan for 8-10% and you would double your money. Just make sure to use 2FA. You just deposit fiat, buy on spot and short the futures.
4086  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Shitcoins to Mine? on: March 19, 2021, 04:38:45 AM
Yes Ethereum pretty much killed off all those POW coins. Before ETH there was POS like with Blackcoin but nobody really assumed it would take off. Then when ETH became big, the next best thing were their POS launch and their ERC20 tokens.

So almost every project went live with their ERC20 tokens. I think its mostly due to how the ETH devs are claiming that POW is a huge waste of energy and bad for the environment. So whenever any POW coin was launched it was assumed its purpose was to "pollute the earth and enable global warming". So slowly and slowly most coins started to become token and now the ANN is filled with them. Many being nothing but scams.

Apparently this chip shortage is even affecting vehicles. The Honda and Ford plants had to shut down due to a chip shortage. I am going to assume that vehicles are much more essential than gaming GPUs and most likely they are going to get priority in the queue.

So prices of GPUs are going to remain high for months. It’s pretty crazy. I basically had an old old GPU from my Litecoin mining days. It was a Radeon 7950, basically like a r9 280x except the clocks are slightly lower. 2-3 years ago you couldn’t sell these GPUs. People only wanted r9 2xx GPUs and didn’t want the Radeon 79xx stuff even though it had a similar chip inside.

I made a Craigslist ad and it sold within 1 hour. And I forgot to remove the ad and basically every 3-6 hours got an inquiry for this 8 year old GPU. Within like 5 days it had a total of 20 inquiries. Which is crazy nuts for such an old video card. And people obviously aren’t mining with them since there are no algos.

4089  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: how do you catch your deals as a scalper? on: March 18, 2021, 04:22:19 AM
How many scalpers do you know that are actually successful? Honestly we all want to be scalpers however its extremely difficult being profitable this way in the long run. You should just focus on longer term trades instead of trading the 1 minute chart trying to gain 0.50% using 25x leverage.

The M1 chart is just so random at times and it can be very unpredictable, save yourself the headache. If you trade the hourly or daily you and thousands of other traders are probably looking at the same pattern and you got a decent chance of the trade working out. This is why its easy trading stocks on the daily because there are many technical traders out there that look at the same thing as you and when it hits a certain price usually there will be a reaction. This is not possible on the 1 minute charts.
4090  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin get back to 60K this week? on: March 18, 2021, 04:17:53 AM
Probably will break $60 in a few hours. Basically the fed will keep printing more money, interest rates low, JP Morgan will allow BTC purchases for some rich client and the most obvious is the stimulus cheques which are being depositted today and tomorrow.

There was a survey which said that 3% of all stimulus cheque recipients will use it to buy crypto which is like $10 Billion or so. Hence the next week should be interesting, I think we might go to $65-68K before finally pulling back again. However at these levels, its getting very toppy. Especially since these figures are almost $100,000 in Aussie and Canadian dollars. Eventually the early investors will start taking profits.
4091  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with 2 HD6970 2GB on: March 18, 2021, 04:13:24 AM
You don't need any calculators to figure out that this GPU is useless at mining. I remember when it came out and it was about a decade ago, somewhere in the year 2010. Its successor was the Radeon 79xx series. So basically the HD7950,7970, and R9 280X. And these days you can't even find anything decent to mine on those GPUs which are a huge step above in performance and have more memory.

I actually had the HD6990 which was the dual GPU version of the 6970. It was a pretty powerful card. It could mine BTC, LTC, X11, ETH and ZEC. Basically it was a huge power hog however it was like 40nm technology instead of the 14nm in the newer GPUs. Hence not ideal for mining at all.
4092  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Shitcoins to Mine? on: March 18, 2021, 04:02:02 AM
The very last time you could mine these so called instamine shitcoins was maybe in 2014...2015. So you are about 6 years too late.

Back then you probably had a few dozen or so coins to mine. Most coins were either Scrypt (Litecoin) or SHA256 (Bitcoin) based. You looked at the ANN section of bitcointalk, you saw something with potential and you would go on Suprnova's pool and instamine as many coins as you could.... Then a few hours or the next day it would appear on Poloniex, Cryptsy or Mintpal and you could dump it for maybe 2-3x more profit than mining LTC directly.

Those days are long long gone. Right now I think the easy money in crypto is in DeFI coins and NFTs.
4093  Economy / Speculation / Re: How to make money countertrading high leverage degenerate traders... on: March 17, 2021, 08:14:08 PM
So the guy is LIVE right now with another video,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVYMu5hUHxw

His entry is 56583 and his stops are all sligtly above ~56700 or so. This is on Bybit BTCUSD.

He has about 4000 people watching his video live right now. So I am guessing that if the market turns most likely there is going to be a nasty cascading stop loss liquidation around the ~$56700 area.

4094  Economy / Speculation / Re: First Batch of $1,400 Stimulus Checks Hit Bank Accounts Starting Today on: March 17, 2021, 03:16:43 PM
On Twitter someone posted some survey where they got 2200 people to respond and about 6% said they would buy stocks and 3% said they would buy crypto. Its not much but since the stimulus is huge its between $10 billion dollars entering the crypto market.

Even if they don't buy crypto, as long as they buy stocks and make the stock market make new ATHs then most likely crypto will follow into ATHs. The original $1200, if you invested in crypto would of net you maybe $10K today. So most likely there are going to be some people who are going to be expecting to turn their $1400 cheques into $14,000 if history repeats itself. However most likely I don't think we will ever see $550,000 bitcoin, especially in the same time frame.

I've seen a few things of people swapping 1GB ddr5 modules to 2GB ddr5 on 4GB AMD GPU's which make them 8GB.  Looked kind of painstaking though so I doubt anyone is doing this in massive scale.

*512 modules to 1GB modules - the Rx series has 8 memory modules, and its GDDR5. Also it was a russian dude who managed to do it, it ended up costing him more in components and equipment than buying a brand new 8GB card.

A couple years ago Chinese buyers were buying back broken RX polaris cards for 40-50$ each - I suspect to do exactly this.

sounds like its possible, i have access to mem pre-balled with good pricing and labor work to do it.

but if someone finaly thinks can manage to take care about the SW, i think then its doabal.

who joins the ride ;-)

Well its definately possible since card makers basically sell both the RX 570 in 4GB and 8GB formats. So they are basically the exact same card except the 8GB obviously has more memory. There also might be different components such as better capacitors, mosfets, etc to handle the extra memory speed/power. So its possible.

Whether its possible to do with flashing an 8GB bios on an 4GB card is questionable. It might work it might not. However in the best I have tried to remove an old ASIC chip off an KnCMiner Jupiter because it had a dead ASIC chip and wanted to swap with a working one. Basically had 2 boards and both of them had 2 ASICs chips dead. So I figured why not just take off the dead ones and replace with good ones and throw the bad board away to save power.

Problem was that it was extremely difficult to remove the chip, I kept adding heat and it wasn't coming off. The capacitors around it started to move while the ASIC chip wasn't coming off. Finally got it off. Then had to do the same on the other board, took maybe 1 hour in total just to remove one chip. Then when they were off the installation was easy because the solder joints were big and you can use a regular soldering iron. Got everything back together and the ASIC chip that I replaced was dead. So wasted hours for nothing.

With a GPU, the solder joins are very small, almost like the strand of a hair, very difficult to get them off, put back on properly. Honestly its better just overpaying a little and getting an 8GB GPU.
4096  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: March 15, 2021, 04:06:51 PM
Seems like Linus tech is in a bit of hot water because of the "MINE CRYPTO BEFORE ITS TOO LATE" video they posted yesterday. Basically they got like 51K likes but 19K dislikes which is a substantial amount of dislikes for a typical video they post. Generally most of the videos they post get great amount of likes ratio.

Anyways people are upset because of the environmental impact that it poses with all the wasted electricity and also the GPU shortages everywhere which causes people to have to either wait months to get a GPU or basically overpay for an old RX 470 4GB since there is nothing else out there for sale.

They defence was that the video was aimed more for people who already have a gaming PC and they can just use Nicehash to recoup some of their hardware cost, however whether they own the GPU or not it still poses an environmental impact.

According to the comments, "mining is evil" and he has joined the dark side instead of fighting for it. Also alot of comments about Nicehash how they are shady and how the CEO was imprisoned.
4097  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with 2 HD6970 2GB on: March 15, 2021, 03:41:11 PM
Cant mining anything worth while with that GPU. It was old even in the Scrypt days and never even optimized due to its age. Even with free power you are wasting your time.

My advice, since there is a GPU shortage you should just throw them on Facebook marketplace or Craiglist and sell it as a Crossfire setup. Somebody will buy it most likely because there is no supply out there. You will get more money this way than you would mining anything at the moment.

You can't mine ETH because its only 2GB, with ETH you need 6GB or higher at the moment.
4098  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: March 14, 2021, 09:42:15 PM
lul that gave me a good laugh.  in 2017 he posted videos also on mining as did a lot of tech channels.  titles were stuff like Is is too late to mine ?  Or, Is it still profitable to mine ? etc etc etc  always the same ol story

I also remember in 2017 there was another YouTube channel which was geared towards Automotive content. Basically it was some 16 year old kid driving around in a Lambo and showing off his vehicles, called JR garage or something.

Icing on the cake was when all of a sudden his channel took a drastic turn from automotive content into financial advice. And basically instead of investing in quality coins like BTC and ETH they promoted shitcoins like Pac-Man Coin and the like.

They also knew nothing about the mid cap coins they promoted like ADA or XRP. They basically said and I still remember this to this day “Ripple is the most decentralized coin on the market, more decentralized than Bitcoin”. I think like a week or month later we hit the market top.

But when we start seeing chefs, mechanics, and hair stylists promoting crypto on their YouTube channel. Means we are nearing the top one way or another.
4099  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: March 14, 2021, 07:56:01 PM
Anyone heard of Linus tech on YouTube? Basically it’s a very popular and technical computer channel. I always liked his content.

A few hours ago he released a new video sponsored by Nicehash called “start mining now before it’s too late”. These types of videos posted by Normies usually indicates a top is going to form sooner or later.

The guy has like 13 million viewers and it should make getting GPUs even more difficult and the difficulty will rise even further since many non miners will start to mine. Especially how easy it is to do on nicehash.

4100  Economy / Speculation / How to make money countertrading high leverage degenerate traders... on: March 14, 2021, 06:04:58 PM
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT A FINANCIAL ADVISOR. YOU CAN LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY TRADING. I AM POSTING THIS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY.

So it seems there is a very popular live youtube stream where some individual trades live bitcoin and ethereum in position sizes from $5-$20M. His channel and twitter is called "Crypto Face".

At first when I saw this I assumed it was faked somehow because why would anyone trade live with such large positions where strangers can clearly see your liquidation and stop loss prices.

However after following him LIVE for a few session I can see that he indeed is trading live. If you want to find his live trading channel just go to Youtube and search for "Crypto Face" I don't want to post any links here.

Here is the issue....

Most of the streams that he starts, he is already in profit. So it doesn't really help the people joining in. What I noticed is that usually his stops get run in most of his videos. He basically has maybe $5-10M worth of stop loss @ market when the index price hits a certain price and usually there is a flash crash.

I think the reason why this happens is because even though his position is $5-10M, he usually has 5000-10000 people following him view on his channel. So I am guessing that people are copying his every move, basically longing when he longs and putting stops in the exact same spot.

Last trading day on his channel on March 13th, he had about $9.50M stop loss at $59700. However given how popular his channel has gotten, there are probably hundreds of smaller traders where their stop losses combined is maybe north of >$50M.

So at around noon on March 13th, some larger whale decided to take advantage and stop him and his followers out because there was a huge 1 minute candle of $170Million contracts and the minute after the market resumed its uptrend and broke $60K on spot.

This is why its never a good idea to post your stop loss and liquidation price LIVE especially when its near 8 figures, and when you combine it with his followers probably closer to 9 figures.

So if you want you can basically countertrade him, when it looks like it like about to run his stops, use a stop-loss limit price right above his stop losses and quickly take profits when the cascading stop losses are done. And later on you can long because the whale who tried to stop him out will most likely cover his short and go long.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT A FINANCIAL ADVISOR. YOU CAN LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY TRADING. I AM POSTING THIS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY.
