Maybe they meant leverage?
Leverage also implies betting against the broker. You seriously don't want that. Especially since its not fixed lots. The best and safest way to exchange is an exchange platform that connects order books, not broker involved. When there is brokerage, its like casino, the broker has an edge.
502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to mine... what to mine? on: April 13, 2013, 03:46:24 PM
Bitcoin is a lost cause as far as mining goes, so what alt-coin are you mining (or what do you recommend). Ive been checking dustcoin for the past few weeks and it looks like the profitability of LTC is going down each day, terracoin on the other hand looks to be putting out great rewards. I'm just glad I looked at this before I started building a miner (I don't pay for electricity as a side point). Bytecoin looks sort of promising?

So is mining even a good idea to get into at this point (im doing this as a hobby to)? If so, what coin?
Honestly everything other than PPC and LTC are over hyped.

TRC is DOA. Wtf is bytecoin.....

So yeah, LTC has scrypt and is the most accepted currently. PPC has proof of stake which has a lot of potential on its own.

No matter what anyone else says, remember, my opinion is the only got good one.
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What would you like to see in an altcoin exchange? on: April 13, 2013, 03:04:50 PM
1. Normal quotes (i.e. LTC/BTC instead of BTC/LTC, NMC/BTC instead of BTC/NCM, etc.)
2. Transparency
3. FIX Protocol
4. Liquidity Rebates
5. Professional trading platform
6. Margin
7. Shorting
8. Every possible pair combination (i.e, LTC/BTC, NMC/BTC, NMC/LTC or LTC/NMC)
9. >99% server uptime
10. Free altcoins for registering.  Grin

6. I assume you mean margin call? Because ''margin'' isn't a ''thing''
7. That would mean centralizing exchanges more as it means you bet against the broker.
8. You don't want too many pairs, you want the essentials. Many reasons for that.

I rarely "sit a my computer and do whatever" anymore, so for me its all about mobile. 100% tablet and phone integration. I have yet to see good charts and tools on mobile.
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Physical Litecoins by CryptoVest (Coming soon!!) on: April 13, 2013, 02:24:55 PM
Hi everyone,

First of all, I am sorry some of you do not like the design. This is not a final design and it may be tweaked by the time I get everything lined up with the manufacturer and the money to make them. This ended up being much more expensive than I thought... $7000+ just for the first 1000 coins (the security hologram is the expensive part.) Because it is so expensive, I will only carry one or two coins at the start, and no silver coins at all. Hopefully I can expand my selection shortly after launch, but it just depends on many uncontrollable factors.

I am not going to lie and say I am some expert photo shopper/3d guru like some of the people who have made the coins you guys are posting. But, I'm not too into copying anyone, perhaps those guys would like to actually make those coins one day... who am I to steal their design? At least the LTC logo which I have used is fair game.

Although I am not an expert in coin minting, I have an everlasting enthusiasm for the future of Litecoins, the work ethic to make this project happen, and (hopefully soon) the funds to do it. I hope that I can make these in a way that most people will like them (if not I stand to lose a lot of money.)

Thank you all for your feedback, you can be sure that I have read what you all have to say and am considering everything mentioned.

As soon as I have any updates on this project, I will let ya'll know.

Thanks,

Ch

Thanks for starting this project! Is it possible to perhaps ask the person who designed the bottom right design below if you could use their design for a share of the profits? The bottom right design is a work of art, phenomenal and I really do not think it can be beaten.

i've never liked any of the litecoin designs, except these:

they were released into the public domain by aspect, and were available at http://alpha.cryptotron.com/ltc-designs/original.html (dead site now)

i know there's an awful lot of detail on them (you might want to modify it if your mint cant realistically achieve that resolution) but IMO it's by far the best litecoin design - all the others are complete shit (atleast as far as physical coins go).
Gotta admit those are pretty nice. Wonder if it really costs more to create those.

I don't like them, remind me of a known moneyclub of some sort..

even if he had authorization, it would most likely have to be heavily modified to have less details. I can't say its impossible because I don't know, but its hard to think its possible.

Also coinhoarder, don't let go too much for a design. You have a decent one right now. You can shop around, but even for a killer design, I wouldn't pay much.

Artists are gonna hate me sure, but whatever, I'm a businessman.
506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MTgox and other cryptos on: April 13, 2013, 04:47:06 AM
The thing is... People who own Litecoins and are willing to sell (sellers) will go where it sells.

People who don't own litecoin might not register on a different exchange to buy some.

Basically, mtgox might offer new buyers, but it won't offer new sellers.

Demand going up with supply being the same = rise.

Kinda surprised people can't compute that on their own though.

They have made a news post in the last 5 minutes addressing most of the issues.

https://www.cavirtex.com/news

I will delete this post once I receive my deposit. Just to make sure its not a delay tactic.

Keep in mind, I sincerely do not wish to hurt this companies image, they have been great for me. Just want to make sure no harm is done.

I also made a withdraw this week, it took longer than usual but I got it.

They may be simply overloaded with the crazy week.
I totally believe they are just overloaded which is why I try to keep my warning very light out of respect for the continuous A+ service I had from them.

But a business week old withdrawal still pending (which is obviously gonna go over the weekend) and phone line shut down (although for probably for the better) has to at least put the tiniest amount of doubt in my guillability.

I just somewhat wish the delay announcements would have been done when the problem first arose. Because since my withdraw request was on Monday and still not processed it means I was already far down that backlog at that point. And quite frankly, money I can't move for a week is capital I could have used for more profits. Of course I don't hold them responsible for loss profits, but its still collateral.

All in all, we meet might just be spoiled by their commonly good service.
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 7970 will only mine at 550khash at stock clocks - Lower when OC'ed - HELP on: April 13, 2013, 01:39:00 AM
I had a thread going about this issue as well.

It is here and may have some useful info -
Lets Solve the unreliable 7970 issues.... (share your observations/input) - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=174036.0

Frankly the most frustrating aspects of this are two things, inability to duplicate results across different brands/versions of 7970s, and absolute non-linear results.  One card 1022/1244 might get 650k, 1022/1450 get 400k, and 1048/1720 get 720k.

They are the fastest cards but something tells me there is some sort of bug we have not found - for example most other cards show little performance variation and there are formulaic settings that can be plugged into any card to get close to max result.

Not so for 7970.  I still have 2 that are fubar.  I don't think I will ever get either one above 600k 24/7.
I used to believe the 7970 wasn't at full potential in the 750khs range for similar reasons, also since it seems more powerful than the difference in hash it gives. So always thought it might be miner optimization that would unlock its potential.

Recently though I have been getting hints towards the memory bus being the bottleneck. We can extropolate that from the Tahiti LE only getting 400khs because of its 256bus.

right getting good hasrates now, but it seems theres a lot of stales, and my pool is returning a ~20-30% lower return than is quoted on my computer. what can be causing this?
HW errors will often be caused by too high/low thread concurrency or GPU threads. Play with those.

0 HW errors.. but ill try thread concurrency etc. increase concurrency by 128 increments? 12000 g2 and 24000 g2 dont work for me

If its not HW errors, perhaps try different ports that your pool accepts or try a different pool (at least just to test).

24000 g2 shouldn't work for anyone. 12000 g2 doesn't for everyone, although I found a little bug for that config to work you must first run g1 then close, then g2.

If you're getting good rates and stales (not errors) you're on the right path. Means hardware config is right, now onto network Tongue. Thankfully, network is pretty much limited to pool config.

i rofled so hard when i saw that btc was so low remembering this post...

I laughed even harder looking at pathetic altcoins losing value even though they are not even traded on MtGox.  Grin
I laughed hard at your answer considering it lost less % than bitcoin.

seconds after typing that it seems i have hit a sweet spot....what an idiot. still only 620-650, but im not complaining
The thing about those sweet spots is they are not linear. You will usually hover around a certain value no matter what, then change the clock (or another setting) by like 5mhz and boom you jump from 600 to 720.

Hey,

This business served me extremely well for some time now, always prompt payments and answers to email and phone. I do not want to slander them.

But, since the 8th of April there has been zero activity from the company except for "news". No EMT system wide reload, a direct deposit since the 8th hasn't been processed yet, and most importantly, the phone number goes directly to voice mail for over 2 days now (maybe more). At any time of the day.

Considering how good they were in the past with phone support this worries me. I would suggest to avoid doing business for now and out of respect for this company I will advice as soon as I get an heartbeat from them and most likely delete this topic.

But in the current situation, I would avoid.

Thanks

I just wanted to add my BTC0.02.  As it has been mentioned, for those new to this, you must work through the settings on your own.  I have two (supposedly) identical 7970s and they can't operate at the same clocks, but get nearly the same rates.

I have 2x Gigabyte 7970 OC edition, model GV-R797OC-3GD.  One at 1054/1500, the other at 1070/1500.  For both, --thread-concurrency=8192, -g2, and -I13  (cgminer 2.11.3, ubuntu 12.10, Catalyst 13.1 and SDK 2.8 ).  I'm getting 745 kHash/s and 750 kHash/s, respectively.  These two cards do seem to be different, as the first is locked at 1.170V and the second at 1.110V.  Well, they might not be voltage locked, but cgminer isn't able to change voltages.

Again, these settings probably won't work (exactly) for you, but they might be a good staring place as they aren't too aggressive.

The main point of my post is to say that -g2 should be tried on the poorly performing 7970s, also with lower thread concurrencies.  No matter what I do, I can't get either of my 7970s above 600 khps when attempting -g1 and high thread concurrencies.  On any version of cgminer that I've used, these settings produce nearly the exact same results.

(edited for spelling)
yeah of course. The clocks card can achieve are extremely variable factor, but I hold my point that in general, same clock/ clock ratio will often deliver similar results

AFAIK, 13.1 is funky. The latest beta 13.3 (beta 3) seems to have unanimous good result.

Start at 2.6 SDK and upgrade to 2.7 if its funky, and 2.8 if that wasn't better.
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin crashes to $2 and litecoin remains around $1 or 50 cents... on: April 11, 2013, 10:26:16 PM
I am a litecoin supporter, but litecoin overthrowing bitcoin is bigger than a pipe dream.

I have no doubt Ltc might acquire strength in this up and down though.
518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 7970 will only mine at 550khash at stock clocks - Lower when OC'ed - HELP on: April 11, 2013, 10:22:35 PM
You can't just take someone else's clock numbers and use them.  You need to tune your own clocks for your own card/mobo combination.
Actually, for clocks, you can. It has been demonstrated many times over that specific ratios at specific clocks, people reach similar sweet spots.

Where things vary a lot is with drivers/miner/thread conc/intensity/GPU thread. With those, you are on your own but still you should start with trying the common ones.
519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 7970 will only mine at 550khash at stock clocks - Lower when OC'ed - HELP on: April 11, 2013, 01:38:38 PM
On any 7970 1035/1500 is achievable and at exactly those clocks I have 4 different models, 12 cards total doing 720khs.

Try 24000 conc, gputhread 1 intensity 18 (more if it can take it)
Or 12000 conc, 2 GPU thread, intensity 13
Matauc - thanks, but i guess i dont understand what are you referring to '1035/1500'? which ones are these are below?

1035 is the core (GPU clock) and 1500 is the mem clock. On your SS it shows mem clock as effective mem clock, so its 4x. 1500 would be 6000.
520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC at $220, altcoins crashing. Where are your AltGods now? on: April 11, 2013, 03:49:48 AM
I must say the Pride-cometh-before-the-fall here is Epic.

I anticipate that BTC will in the following day or so stabilize at around half its peak value but then follow a gradual decline back into the 30-60 dollar level over a month or two.  In other words we will see a broad replication of the July 2011 bubble and crash, simply from a higher base price.  Now it's still very likely that BTC will in the long term stabilize at a price higher then what it had just before the bubble started in February, but this means that as in all bubbles people who came in late will have lost.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the alt-coins, will they fall in sync with BTC, or will their value be largely dis-connected from it.  LTC logically has potential to be disconnected because of its differing hash, on the other hand it is also closer to BTC in being 'big' (well bigger then the other alts) so it might be effected by broad public perception of crypto-currency.

I'm hopefull that alts can start to emerge out of the shadow of BTC and that their will be a movement away from the mentality that BTC and it's original protocol was some kind of perfect thing handed down by a demi-god.  But rather that the future is going to be a succession of one alt supplanting another in a potentially endless succession (or at the least keeping them from stagnating), the same standard we expect with any other piece of software.

It's really to early to say that this is a bubble.  I think it can go up or down right now.
People don't don't economic terminology. Crash is 99% of the time misused, and bubble 95% of the time.

Of course its a bubble. You can even mathematically confirm that. That's not the question. Everything that rises is a bubble, meaning it goes over real value, but you need to speculate to make something rise (very short term up to long term), because even when something is fundamental, traders (users) have to speculate about the extent of the effect of the fundamental. The question is... Will the real value meet with the speculative value.

And the answer to that question seems to be yes. Because as much as it rose lately, the usage seems to have completely or more matched.
