5081  Other / Meta / Re: Welcome "Hardware wallets" Child Board on: February 20, 2019, 04:02:15 AM
Did anyone notice this change? This child board has been added recently, and there have been some changes.

Thanks for the heads up.  A new board to watch.

"Alternative Clients" has also been renamed to "Wallet software". I think the addition of the new board is a good idea - hardware wallets are becoming more widespread, with developments such as new models, mobile apps, bluetooth, etc, and there seem to be new companies popping up quite regularly in addition to the gold-standard Ledger and Trezor. It did seem that the majority of the threads under "Alternative Clients" were about hardware wallets, so a new board makes sense.

Not sure LN needs its own board yet - it's just not yet widespread enough.

It never occurred to me, but yeah, the new structure make more sense.  I would imagine light desktop wallets are now far more widely used than core.  And having a specific board for hardware wallets is long overdue.  As more and more people who are not technically savvy enter the crypto fold I image hardware wallets will continue to gain in popularity.  I recommend them to all my friends and family regardless of their technical capabilities.

5082  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Did anyone else get a crapload of Bitmain coupons today? on: February 19, 2019, 11:33:50 PM
All I bought from them last year was one antminer, and I used a coupon for that.  Today I got one each: $340, $250; $160; and $65.

Not a bad haul of coupons, but with my power costs I won't be buying any Asics this year.  They are way to expensive to run at current BTC prices, but that could change in a hurry.
5083  Economy / Lending / Re: [[LOAN REQUEST]] 0.5BTC to 1BTC with Collateral - Repay on the 15/03 on: February 19, 2019, 10:16:39 PM
@OP. 1st of all, most people are not going to give you a BTC loan here with real world goods. It's a big hassle to transfer these items to their control. 2nd, it's not considered good collateral if you had previously offered it up for sale. If you need a loan and want to offer real world goods as collateral, it is probably best to just go to a pawn shop rather than here.

In addition to bones' comments, you've already indicated you wish to sell the goods.  Why would anybody loan you money based on collateral we know you don't want back?  That sounds like a backhanded sale to an unwilling buyer.

Furthermore, the collateral you offer isn't worth the value of bitcoin you want to borrow.
5084  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.4 on Ubuntu16.04 LTS (i386) crashes on: February 19, 2019, 10:11:36 PM
@tortillaface,
Please don't multi-post.  It's rude to those who watch this board, and it's against the rules.  When you have something to add, and no one has replied since your last post you should just edit that last post.
5085  Economy / Reputation / Re: nixon99 on: February 19, 2019, 10:53:05 AM
Are you serious ?  Shocked

Prior to the being hacked the account doesn't post in Russian once.

Immediately after the hack it starts posting mainly in Russian.

It has probably had more than one owner since.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying the evidence isn't clear-cut enough for my liking.

Your suspicion is not wrong, PM message could be edit. But I don't think xtraelv edited it.

The notion that xtraelv doctored the PM never even crossed my mind.  I certainly didn't mean to imply that.
5086  Economy / Reputation / Re: nixon99 on: February 19, 2019, 04:05:25 AM
I don't see any proof that the account was hacked, only an allegation.  I spent a little time scrolling through the post history, didn't see a gap in shitposts, just an incessant stream.  Nor did I find an address posted or any way to prove ownership.

The accuser seems to have created the account nixon98 just to levy the accusation.  I see the posted quote of the PM, but those can easily be forged.  I don't know that there's enough evidence that would convince me to paint nixon99 red.
5087  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BitBlender Signature Campaign | Up to 0.0003BTC/Post | Member - Legendary on: February 19, 2019, 12:17:28 AM
Thank you for doing a great job managing this campaign.  It's been a pleasure to participate, I'm really appreciative for the opportunity.
5088  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Real Russian Collusion on: February 18, 2019, 10:58:42 PM
I haven't had time to watch it, but I will.

I strongly believe that Obama was a puppet, a facade for the real power behind the Democratic party.  The behavior of the FBI in recent years only demonstrates the infestation of corruption in our government.  If you are still asking who that power is, you aren't paying attention.

5089  Other / Meta / Re: This Is NOT A New Problem... A Walk Down Memory Lane on: February 18, 2019, 10:53:40 PM
What do you think about splitting the scam rating, with a "warning" rating for scammed previously OR you strongly believe that they will scam in the future, and a "scammer" rating for scammed previously AND you strongly believe that they will scam in the future? And then if you only have warning ratings, the indication displayed next to posts will be softer.

I think that would be fair.  Regardless, there will be people who people who abuse the highest "Scammer" rating in retaliation for their own negative reviews.

Like suchmoon, I'd be curious to see what you have in mind to define what constitutes a warning vs. a full on scammer tag.  Or, would you leave this to the community to work out?  And be prepared for cryptohunter's walls of text complaining about whatever resolution is conceived.

5091  Economy / Reputation / Re: What happen if anyone endorse Cloudbet? on: February 18, 2019, 10:06:42 PM
I find it interesting that almost all claims of scam against cloudbet come from newbies.  Very few from established bitcointalk accounts.  Sure I think it's possible all of these accounts are actually new members, but the majority of them?  It makes me suspicious that most of these claims are frivolous.

Also it's worth noting that several of these "withdraw scam" claims are commonly addressed when the customer submits KYC.  I don't blame folks for not wanting to comply with KYC requirements, but then don't use the service.

Cludbet is one of the biggest online crypto casinos.  It's bound to have a few detractors, or those who are unhappy with the service they receive, considering how many customers they have.
Obviously no one give a fuck about this forum but only the scammed people.
Obviously no one give a fuck to use bitcointalk but using gambling sites.
Obviously they will never use bitcointalk again and would never use it if there wasn't problems with cloudbet.
The "Newbies" are here just and only because the scamming casino is starting from this forum.
No one than you give a fuck are they newbies or "oldbies".
They just registered to that forum to share that they were scammed and search for help.
Why everyone here still talking about ranks, consider no one give a fuck about ranks.
Every single honest person in this forum coming to do business with escrow.
No one give a fuck what your profile or rank is when you using escrow for each of your trades.
Fuck your "oldbie" account and fuck your "rank".
Have a nice day Smiley

I expressed my opinion and I'm entitled to it.  And as I've said if I see irrefutable evidence of a scam, I won't hesitate to change my mind.  I'll be the first to recant my defense of Cloudbet.

And, I would hardly call my account an "Oldbie,"  I haven't even been a member for a year yet.

5093  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.4 on Ubuntu16.04 LTS (i386) crashes on: February 18, 2019, 03:39:14 PM
I'm no Ubuntu expert, and I get frustrated as hell when I run into shit like this.  I've found the easiest way to fix those issues is to install Windows.  Tongue

All kidding aside; you can try a purge of Electrum and the python dependencies, and try to reinstall again.  Sometimes that will button things up.
5094  Other / Meta / Re: Asking to ban of harzard advertisement on this forum on: February 18, 2019, 03:31:33 PM
Am asking to ban hazard advertisement on this forum.

@Thule
Getting no where attacking individuals, so you now you are shifting your attack to a whole subsection of the forum's economy?  You are so predictable and petty.  If you are so disgruntled with activities on the forum, take suchmoon's advice; report every thread or post that you feel violates some obscure jurisdictional law, then sit back and watch as the moderators turn this place into Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood forum.

5095  Economy / Scam Accusations / [Beware] Ongoing Electrum Phishing Attempt on: February 18, 2019, 06:18:49 AM
Several weeks ago a few users of the popular bitcoin desktop wallet Electrum reported loss of their bitcoin after downloading a malicious versions of software.

The scammers were able to infect Electrum servers to broadcast messages to users of older versions of the software.  The message would trick users into downloading the malware.  Recent releases of Electrum are able to prevent the messages from being broadcast by the compromised servers, but users who are still using versions prior to 3.3.3 are still vulnerable.

I'm posting this here to help bring awareness to the issue.  If you are using an older version of Electrum it is recommended you upgrade to the latest version.

Only download Electrum from the official website:  https://electrum.org/
Don't forget to check the signature.

More information can be found here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/4968

Originally the scammers directed victims to download the malware from the impostor's github repository, but github has since shut down the scammers account.  However it appears the scammer is still attempting to take advantage of the vulnerability by now directing his potential victims to a new site for downloading the malware.

Warning: Do not visit the site listed blow.  It is displayed only for your reference.

5098  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Google Play Store Caught Hosting Fake Metamask Crypto Malware on: February 18, 2019, 03:19:21 AM
I got snookered for $14 worth of ETH last autumn by this fake.  It could have been a much more expensive lesson, luckily it wasn't.

The article says the malware was released on Feb. 1 2019, but I know for a fact this malware has been around longer than that.  The scammer must keep trying the same trick every few months.

It's likely going to attract a few victims, since has been recent news about MetaMask publishing a legitimate Android app.
5099  Economy / Reputation / Re: Lauda breaking forum rules ? on: February 18, 2019, 02:47:21 AM
Where's the common decency?  Here we have a martian feline of high repute promoting gambling.  What will come next?  Forum members promoting services that obfuscate the tractability of bitcoin?  Such naughty, naughty behavior.  For shame.

I won $286 at "poker night" last night.  Bitcoin still sideways, but at least I have 0.07817 more of it.  Grin
