5061  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet Compromised?? on: February 23, 2019, 06:59:18 PM
This morning I sent my Electrum wallet some BTC from coinbase and went on with my day. Came back 45mins later to find at the very same second I had initiated my receiving transaction, my wallet had also initiated (on its own) a send transaction to an unknown address before the funds were even available in my wallet. There was no way to stop it and my funds are now gone... Is this some sort of glitch in electrum's system, or is this signs of a compromised wallet?

Receiving transaction ID: 11ba4ba28dd4230c15781a1e8c755f5d9b89862612b7b6cf415bf4978e99375b

Sending ID: c40d8a10d51a1d54cdd989364513d8cdcaa5fc83711016c5ce3d2a0803ded67d

Any help would be appreciated......

The funds are still in this address for the time being, but that address has been very busy.  It looks like it recently sent 15BTC to a mixer, and it's had almost 37BTC roll through since Feb. 4 2019.

It certainly appears you've been hit by a scammer.  Any information you can share that would help others avoid being targeted would be much appreciated.  Can you give us more information, such as your operating system and version of Electrum?  Do you remember from where you downloaded the wallet software?  Do you remember how you initiated the wallet, was it a new seed, restored seed, imported private key?

People with less than 250 merit don't like me.  Cry

Quote
86. bones261 (321 Merit earned) is included by 8 users with 250+ earned Merit and 0 users with 10-249 earned Merit.

See, it's not just me.  I'm still not sure how you ended up on my distrust list, and now that I'm getting closer 250 I find myself liking you more and more.

It must be the merit sauce...  I like it dry, with two olives.

Jet Cash, I wish you were in the states.  Love to have coffee with you or something.

Is that a Luke Cage type metaphor or something?   Shocked

All homophobic kidding aside, I like Lafu's idea of having a dedicated discord channel for members of the forum.  I probably would never use it, I don't care for voice type chatting.  It's kind of telling that old-school forums still get a lot of members, but VOIP services have never gotten very popular.

I can barely stand a 1-to-1 conversation over the phone. Some people are just not built for that stuff I guess.

The only time I answer phone calls anymore is when it's my kids calling.  I can tell how much it's gong to cost me by the tone they use to say "hi papa."
5065  Economy / Reputation / Re: ★ We want @marlboroza on DT1 again ★ on: February 22, 2019, 04:52:34 PM
I want to vote "Yes," but out respect for marlboroza's wishes I'm abstaining from the vote.  Like others, I value marlboroza's reviews and want to be able to see his influence on users' trust score.  I'll be keeping him in my custom trust list as well.
5066  Other / Meta / Re: Citing reference sources properly on: February 22, 2019, 03:07:34 PM
Just a short question. How can I properly cite references in white paper? I would like to add the explanation about PoW and PoS mining (How are they working) to the white paper. Sources : Satoshi's original white paper and blockgeeks.com The reason is avoiding plagiarism accusations.
P.S Shell I ask blockgeeks for permition?

Here's a decent tutorial on how to cite sources and properly quote others.  I hope you find it helpful:

5068  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: LIST OF ELECTRUM TRUSTED SERVERS on: February 21, 2019, 01:48:50 AM
I'm not sure if there's a white list of servers, but I found this list of compromised servers here.

As long as you're careful, and don't download an update from anywhere but Electrum.org you'll be okay.  The servers can't force an update on you, they only send a message telling you to download an update, and direct you to a download site other than Electrum.org.

Compromised servers:

5069  Other / Meta / Re: "Show All" on long topics on: February 20, 2019, 11:23:42 PM
"Show all" is so convenient to CTRL-F something.

It is nice to be able to do that, though note that if you use the search box in the upper right while in a topic, it searches only that topic.

That's good to know, I was not aware of that.  The "show all" feature is cool, but it often triggers the cloudflare page.
5070  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Did anyone else get a crapload of Bitmain coupons today? on: February 20, 2019, 11:18:57 PM
I foresee many people beginning to offer coupons for sale in the next few days here in the forum. It would be interesting if most who would not use the coupons offered free to those who intend to use. Preferably high values.

I tried to give away (for free) a $65 coupon last month, and no one wanted it.   Huh

I think the price of bitcoin makes the ROI a bit too long for most people to consider buying Asics right now.

No more spoilers!  I've got it on DVR, but I'm still at work.  Undecided
5072  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I get a BAD signature when I try to verify Windows Installer from electrum.org/ on: February 20, 2019, 11:10:07 PM
I was able to get the signature to verify as well.

Once you download the executable, create a text file in the same directory.  Copy the signature into that text file, and save it.  Then rename the text file to <electrum-3.3.4.exe.asc> and try again.
5073  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: February 20, 2019, 10:57:02 PM
I held my nose and "voted" for Harris, Booker, and O'rourke.   I think if the Demoncrats' primaries were held today those would be the most likely winners, in that order.  I wouldn't actually vote for a Democrat in this day and age, most are far too left for my tastes.

If one of the more centrist candidates actually wins the primary I wouldn't be surprised if that candidate wins the general election also.  I don't think that a centrist candidate has a snow-ball's chances to win the primary, however.  This primary season has been leaning way too far to the left with the AOC factor pushing otherwise centrist candidates hard to the extreme.  It's not unusual for a candidate to pander to the extreme during the primaries, and then center up for the general election.  But with the extreme being so far to the extreme in this situation it'll be hard for any Democrat to recover the centrist vote.

Not from the US either so this might be a stupid question but: no Michelle Obama ?

Not a stupid question at all, I wouldn't be surprised to find her on the ticket in 2024.  I think she's smart enough to know that beating Trump in 2020 is an uphill battle, she'll just sit back and watch the clusterfuck unfold.
5074  Other / Meta / Re: How can we protect Newbies from getting scammed? on: February 20, 2019, 09:51:03 PM
I wish there was something we could do to prevent these types of things from happening, but unfortunately I think it's impossible.  More and more folks who are not tech savvy will be entering into the crypto world, and that means more people will be there in attempt to take advantage of them.  I learned a few lessons early on, and luckily for me they were relatively affordable lessons.

Good catch finding this scammer's information, kudos for that.  Hopefully he gets caught, and the victim gets his money back.

There's a (Dutch) name in his email address. That may be fake, or it may be real if he didn't plan on scamming anyone but took the opportunity when you offered it.
If it's his real name, it might be useful to track him down.
His username is a domain name, that may help too.

5075  Economy / Reputation / Re: Remove marlboroza (me, me) from DT2 on: February 20, 2019, 09:26:50 PM
The only one that could/should pm him is actually Steamtyme.

For these (dunno if I am the only one) who excluded him from their trust list or just dis trusted him, I don't see the need to pm him about it.
To me he clearly used the system in an unfit way to be DT. He can keep notes on people like this if he pleases, but it shows a huge lack of judgement.

It would take a lot of convincing me to delete the ~ line related. And I guess it will be the same with the others that might have done the same.

I thought it was weird that Steamtyme was asleep about the issue, but it turns out he really was sleeping.   Grin

Apparently enough people distrusted klintay that the issue resolved itself.  Again, showing the DT system is dynamic enough that things will work themselves out given the proper discussion and attention.
5076  Economy / Reputation / Re: Cloudbet last scam accusation, what do you think? on: February 20, 2019, 08:05:13 PM
There is definitely an ethical dilemma with accepting money no questions asked and only giving it back after seeing personal documents.  Imagine an escrow agent doing something like that.

I agree with you, but I don't doubt the reasoning behind casinos' request of documents for payout.  I'm an American so I'll put things into IRS terms:  If i can't prove that I paid $xxx.xx out, then I'm liable for taxes on $xxx.xx as income.  Proof is in the form of documents that require personal information about the payee.

What I would like to see is a very hard to ignore notification on the casino's membership initiation page informing their clients that KYC is not needed for using the site, but payouts greater than x amount require KYC.  I know it's probably buried in the fine print of the TOS, but making clear and unambiguous would greatly reduce these types of scam claims.
5077  Economy / Reputation / Re: Cloudbet last scam accusation, what do you think? on: February 20, 2019, 06:27:49 PM
I think KYC verification should be done at the time of deposit and not at the time of withdrawal. That eliminates the whole situation of confiscating the balance. It only make them seems like they are plotting something from others point of view if they are asking for KYC at the time of withdrawal.

I think it's telling that they will ask for KYC once a withdrawal is requested, but not when a deposit is made.  If they were to ask for KYC upfront, I imagine they would have far fewer clients.

Still I don't consider this as untrustworthy but doubt their ethics. They have right to check if someone is breaking TOS or not but like I said above KYC process should be initiated prior to accepting deposit from a gambler.

This made me chuckle, if their ethics weren't dubious they likely wouldn't be in the casino business to begin with.  I'm sure most casinos are not likely to care if their clients adhere to the TOS if those clients keep losing money.  Once a client wants to claim a prize, that's when the TOS become tantamount to gospel.

I'm not trying to disparage casinos or their owners.  As long as they are operated as legitimate businesses and don't attempt to scam their clients, I believe they should have every right to exist.  I think it's great that the forum allows them as well.
5078  Economy / Reputation / Re: Remove marlboroza (me, me) from DT2 on: February 20, 2019, 06:08:37 PM
Errr...on side note, you might want to PM klintay, I see some strange DT negative on your trust wall.
While we're on the subject: I noticed that too. klintay is included by Dabs.
For future reference: he left red trust "busy body who worries more about other people than himself. stay in your lane! " with a Reference link to this post.
I don't think this is appropriate use of red trust. I'm hoping he'll see his wrong and remove it, or maybe Dabs excludes him. I'm not instantly excluding him, but I will if this doesn't get resolved soon.

I notice that this morning, and thought about excluding Klintay as well, but I didn't want to be rash.  I too think that review is a bit petty, and obviously a retaliation for Steamtyme calling him out for spamming.  The fact that he added "risked BTC" to the review is even more puzzling.  Maybe klintay doesn't know he's on DT2, and not taking the responsibility seriously enough.
5079  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Loan default and account will be sold. on: February 20, 2019, 05:32:52 PM
I think if the borrower still owes you money, you should hold on to the account.  Even if it is only the interest that is still due, an agreement is an agreement.  0.02BTC is a reasonable amount, and if the account is worth more than that to the owner they should pay.

As for borrower planning to sell the account to earn the rest of what's owed...  That's a shady deal, and sort of shows the borrower's lack of ethics.  So many things could go wrong, including the borrower selling the account and then disappearing.  Leaving you without your payment, and leaving the account's new owner with a red-tagged, worthless account.  I think you're right in tagging the account and not giving it back.
5080  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New hardware wallets on: February 20, 2019, 05:01:29 AM
This statement alone tells me personally to keep far away from this wallet.
If they mix up hashing with encryption, how are they supposed to build a secure hardware wallet ?

Something about that whole website looks scammy.  I'm glad you pointed that out, I don't have the technical knowledge to pick up on that.

I bought a keepkey to start, no regrets really, but I don't use it anymore.  I actually really like the simple design, and the display is practical.  The chrome plug in works fine, has decent UI, and it's integrated with ShapeShift exchange.  You can set up many different accounts, and has a few altcoins it supports.  It can also be accessed with Electrum.  However, I found it buggy to use.  A couple of times it displayed a zero balance for several minutes after sending.  It did the same thing one time while I was using Electrum.  I knew I still had the coins because my watch-only Electrum copy showed the transactions the way they should have been.

I recently bought a Trezor Model T, and I love it.  It works great, P2SH segwit addresses, the touch screen is cleanly integrated and the size is good.  I was hopeful that I could use it with the Monero official wallet, but no integration yet.
