5121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / KYC for $25 worth of XLM? on: February 14, 2019, 05:32:20 PM
I just got an email from Blockchain.com.  They are giving away $25 worth of their Stellar (XLM) coin, but in order to claim it you have to submit a selfie and a government identification card.

I don't have any suspicions about Blockchain, I believe they're legit, but I'm always hesitant to spread my personal information around.

How many of you folks plan to claim your $25?
5122  Other / Meta / Re: This Is NOT A New Problem... A Walk Down Memory Lane on: February 14, 2019, 06:21:48 AM
That is to say if the trust system had an objective standard of evidence of theft, violation of contractual agreement, or violation of applicable laws none of this would have ever been an issue to begin with.

I have no disagreements to this philosophy, and I agree it would be easier to have guidelines to follow.  But I'll risk a speculation: that's probably not the decentralized vision theymos has for this forum.  In the short time I've been here it's been made pretty clear that theymos is libertarian.  And so yes, libertarian philosophy and lack of authority may lead to anarchy.  As long as nobody loses an eye, I'm enjoying witnessing this unique study in human behavior.
5123  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Unprecedented: Trump's Approval Rating Hits 52%, With 90% Negative MSM Coverage on: February 14, 2019, 04:34:24 AM

But what if he isn't building the wall to keep illegals out? What if he is building it to keep citizens in?

Cool

Please elaborate how that could even possibly be Trump's goal?

Now if Obummer were this motivated to build the wall, and take my guns, and run my healthcare, and suck up to China...  See where I'm going with this?
5124  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum's new Update Notification in action on: February 14, 2019, 01:22:46 AM
Electrum version 3.3.3 included a new feature that will inform you when there's a newer version of Electrum available.  Today a newer version was made available for download, and here's what to expect if you have the notification feature activated.

The notification setting can be changed by going to Tools> Preferences> General.  You should see this:

You'll see an update notification in the lower right of the main window.

After clicking on the notification in the lower right of the main panel, you should see this pop-up:

Scrutinizing the displayed link, it appears to be legitimate.  I did not click the link, but instead opened my browser, and used my bookmark to navigate to the Electrum website.  Indeed the download page shows version 3.3.4 is available for download.

I was hopeful the development team would skip version number 3.3.4.  That was the version number applied to the malicious software responsible for steeling BTC from many users at the end of 2018, early 2019.

I downloaded version 3.3.4, and checked the signature.  It is verified as being signed by Thomas Voegtlin.

5125  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: PHISHING SCAM ON VERSION 3.3.3 - SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME on: February 14, 2019, 01:02:15 AM
I believe that's a legitimate notification.  I originally posted my findings here, but i decided to move my post to it's own thread.  Here's a link to that thread:

5126  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Unprecedented: Trump's Approval Rating Hits 52%, With 90% Negative MSM Coverage on: February 13, 2019, 06:49:49 PM
If there was an election today. He would crush it.

He would crush it today, and he's gonna crush it in 2020.  There isn't a single Democrat on the scene that has the American people's interests listed as a priority.  Not one.  All they care about is stopping Trump.  Their policies aren't even well thought out, the only prerequisite to their policies is that they oppose Trump's.  Democrats care more about damaging the image of Republican's than they do about solving problems that plague Americans.

I didn't vote for Trump in '16, I thought he was just another bag of hot air.  I will most certainly vote for him 2020, and his successor in 2024!
5127  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Democracy Yes OR No ??? on: February 13, 2019, 05:45:14 PM
Here are some merits of democracy :
1)It is more accountable
2)The elected leaders need to perform better for their stability
3)Gives the people right to choose among the best
4)It enhances the dignity of a citizen

Demerits of democracy :
1)Leaders keep on changing leads to instability
2)It is all about political competition and power play
3)Elected leaders do not know the best interests of people
4)Democracy leads to corruption.

So which country would you prefer a democratic or non-democratic ?

There are a lot of different types of democracies, and I can't tell which types you are attempting to compare.  Are you referring to Athenian democracy, where all laws and policies are voted on by the populous?  Are you referring to a democratically elected officials, or representative democracy?  Do you even know what the word democracy means?  I'm not sure you do.
5128  Economy / Reputation / Re: Hate a DT1 member? Or two? All of them? Post your grievances here. UNMODERATED on: February 12, 2019, 11:53:40 PM
I hate that I can't figure out what kind of animal is in owlcatz's avatar.  I have come to the conclusion it's neither an owl nor a cat, but what is it?  A skunk, raccoon, badger?  I don't fucking know, and it's just killing me.
5129  Economy / Reputation / Re: @suchmoon could you provide info on this on: February 12, 2019, 10:04:44 PM
Did i ever say he did ? But thanks for pointing it out.I guess it will be clearer when people will see the rest of the PM's

 Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I won't hold my breath while I listen to the crickets chirping.

Is it again your poor try to change topic with false accusations ?

Lol, false accusations, he says.   That's rich, coming from the guy who started this thread.
5130  Economy / Reputation / Re: @suchmoon could you provide info on this on: February 12, 2019, 09:55:23 PM
I'm convinced you are a liar, a cad, a scoundrel, and you have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

You sir, are a cad, sir, a villain and a brigand!

Lol, I have been spending some time with Victorian literature lately.

There is zero "points [...] in his favour". Starting from the fact that no one in their right mind would ask you to post an accusation on their behalf.

^^This!  If I was a newbie who had been scammed by a highly ranked member, I would go to a moderator or admin, not some schmuck with no credibility.
5131  Economy / Reputation / Re: @suchmoon could you provide info on this on: February 12, 2019, 09:41:12 PM
Suchmoon claim about me being ito-marketing is just to defame me...

From what I've seen the one person most capable in the effort to "defame" you is you.  You've done a great job with that just by posting this thread.  You, all by yourself have demonstrated just how little credibility you have by posting this unproven allegation against a reputable forum member.  You claim this allegation stems from some anonymous newbie, whom you oblige yourself to protect for some unknown reason.  You continue to promise more evidence to prove this allegation, yet you are unable or unwilling to deliver.  When all else fails, you threaten to dox suchmoon.

Speaking for myself, I'm convinced you are a liar, a cad, a scoundrel, and you have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Continue to claim you have no alts, and I read "LIE."
Continue to promise more PMs, and I read "LIE."

Go here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust

Add this to your trust list:

~marlboroza

Sorry buddy, not happening.  If you want to stop tagging shitbirds, go for it.  But, the shitbirds you've tagged already genuinely deserve it and I want to see those tags.  Take a step back if you're feeling overburdened with responsibility.  Also, I wouldn't worry about making a decision others disagree with, that's to be expected, we're all human.
5133  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [Antminer S9] Here's how to switch between LPM and Enhanced LPM programmatically on: February 12, 2019, 08:33:29 PM
Thanks for the advice, that's new to me.  Will this work on the S9i and S9j models as well?
5134  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: 2-12-18. I tried to send 6 bitcoins and then received a popup message. on: February 12, 2019, 08:30:12 PM
a pop up window and i cant remember what it said. but it said "due to a major malice in versions of eletrum older than 3.3 we are forcing users to install the latest update  to send coins out. Press here to update now " And I pressed the link. and then 6 bars loaded as if the updates were being installed and then it crashed.

it never opened up a new internet explorer page that i downloaded.  i pressed the "update now" button and it started updating , then after 30 seconds it crashed or shut down... and i couldnt open it again.

but all my coins are still here...
i just sent it to my local bitcoins wallet.. im afraid to login to binance in case i am key logged.  but my binance will be good because i need to confirm any coins being sent out in my wallet from my email. and i havent signed into my email since this happened. so hackers can suck my giant dick. for now i am on stand by.

I'm glad you didn't lose your funds, that's a relief.  I'm in agreement with TryNinja, Electrum won't auto-update, nor will it force you to accept an update.  The new version (3.3.3) has an option which will inform you when an update is available, but you have to activate that option.  I don't think any old versions included that option.

If you're concerned that you've been infected by any malicious software, it's probably time to nuke your OS and reinstall.

Lol, I thought nobody posted in Meta?

I've earned the vast majority of mine in P&S and Meta, so I see I'm in good company.
5136  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The part loaded Saudi oil tanker docking in Venezuela. on: February 11, 2019, 10:39:08 PM
No. The US is trying to impose its will on the whole world, and this includes trade between sovereign nations that are independent of the US. It's the reason that SWIFT is being replaced, and countries are moving away from the petro-dollar. America's answer is to increase military spending and intervention, whilst countries like Russia and China rely on trade and economic aid to gain control of countries that have been pushed into recession by the US.

The US should spend it's money on roads and infrastructure at home, rather than enriching the City of London through its military spending.

Subtract the vitriol and anti-America sentiment, and yes this is true.  If country A, which is not sanctioned by the US does business with country B, which is subject to US sanctions, then country A risks being sanctioned by the US as well.

Reminder: sanctions wouldn't work if there was no incentive to do business with the US.
5137  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transferring BTC from Electrum That Has Not Been Updated? on: February 11, 2019, 10:18:37 PM
For verifying the download I use Gpg4win.

gpg4win has a signature to verify file? Or how to verify gpg4win?

Lol, you need to install it before you can validate it.  Undecided

The nice thing about gpg4win is it's trusted by windows defender and almost all anti-virus programs.  If you get something that isn't trusted by your AV stop.
5138  Economy / Reputation / Re: So.... on which board did you earn most of your Merit? on: February 11, 2019, 05:33:10 AM
I would love to see my stats, if I can trouble you to take the time.  Thanks for putting together so much useful forum data.  You're an incredible help on so many levels.

5139  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unable to 'save' transaction in watch-only wallet. (for cold storage) on: February 11, 2019, 04:59:45 AM
I believe the Save button only activates when you're importing transactions.

Save button only activates when your transaction that you are viewing in this window is actually signed. if you move your mouse over it, i believe it will show you a popup message saying the transaction needs to be signed.

Thanks for the correction.  I also see now that you had already figured out what the OP was doing wrong and described it in this post.
5140  Economy / Reputation / Re: @suchmoon could you provide info on this on: February 11, 2019, 04:53:27 AM
I can prove this is a false accusation from the information provided.

Good point. But...

To save Quicksy and his gang of misfits some time I'm gonna rebuke this myself Wink

The perp could have deleted the rating by now due to... reasons.

Yeah, the lack of a rating isn't proof that suchmoon didn't scam someone.  That's the beauty of this accusation, there's really no way to prove it didn't happen, so we must believe.

1. Believe that Thule has no ax to grind.
2. Believe Thule!?!
3. Believe Suchmoon is lying.

Can we turn this thread into a poll?

@suchmoon, are you starting to feel like Brett Kavanaugh yet?
