521  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 12, 2012, 02:00:46 PM
I see the problem.
denaro-vero.com shows the value of the gold/paper that he is selling ( he said that he doesn't own this domain ), but localbitcoins doesn't have the "gold" in the currency list.

Well, to be honest I don't see that much huge demand for local gold/silver trading, but we will try to add that feature at some point  Grin

Edit: and we have some plans for removing spammy ads from the site. However that isn't high priority right now, for now we need more traders/ads.
522  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: If cryptography can secure Bitcoin, why not software DRM? on: June 12, 2012, 12:05:01 PM
With DRM you always have to view or enjoy the media somehow, eg. the media always needs to be transformed in unencrypted form. So you can also always capture the media. It is a different case.
523  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 12, 2012, 08:48:48 AM
the ads only show up wrong because... I BROWSE from FF/M. DURRRRRRRRR

Yep, you can change your default location on the main page (the two boxes and "change" button). It should save the cookie for about like forever, so you don't have to rely on the IP location. (how could I make this more intuitive?)
524  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 12, 2012, 08:24:27 AM
Nochmal, kannst DU bitte alle Ads aus FF/M entfernen?
Die sind alle von mir, ich wohne aber in Berlin, meine IP in FF/M :-(

Hmm, I'll look at it... Don't you have your ad edit URL where you can delete them?

Edit: in fact, I don't see any ads from Frankfurt, if you mean that... There area only ads in berlin leipzig, dresden, hambur... Your IP located position never goes in to the ads.
525  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 12, 2012, 08:23:28 AM
Any way to know which cities are supported? My city is not recognized...

What city did you try? What country?

We recommend using postal codes/zipcodes, because they usually work somewhat well, but cities should work as well in most cases...
526  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 12, 2012, 07:53:17 AM
Looks good now, no errors Smiley

EDIT: Any plans to support Unicode character set? I tried to add an advertisement with comments in Greek but the characters were converted to Huh??

Hmm, I'll try to fix this problem ASAP.

Edit: should be fixed
527  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 11, 2012, 01:19:58 PM
Brilliant idea, well done.

... but unfortunately I get a 500 - Internal server error right now on the http://localbitcoins.com/ Please note that other URLs work fine, like for example http://localbitcoins.com/location/DE/Berlin/

EDIT: By the way, would it be possible to sort by price? When you get too many results close to you, you might want to pick the best price ;-) (unless it will only display 10 results at a time, so no need for sorting)

Well, there were couple of bugs, they should be fixed now and there shouldn't be 500 errors any more. If you are still getting them, drop me a msg.

We will add ability to stort by price, but that is currently minor priority, since there aren't any sellers to make this kind of sorting sensible.
528  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 11, 2012, 11:27:08 AM
Lots of minor updates made, for example now you can link to a city this way:

http://localbitcoins.com/location/DE/Berlin/

Also there is some random "active cities" fetched at the bottom of the listing page.

Sorry about the continuous errors with the site, we are rapidly making changes, because at this point we sacrifice stability over features. In the longer term the site will be more stable Smiley

I'm interested as well Smiley
530  Economy / Economics / The Macroeconomics of Chinese kleptocracy on: June 10, 2012, 08:38:55 PM
http://brontecapital.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/macroeconomics-of-chinese-kleptocracy.html

After reading the article, I really thought that bitcoin could be huge thing in china. Especially since the investment vehicles for the poor and middle-class are very limited (for example, they can't invest outside the country), it could really change things. Have to start translating my projects to chinese Cheesy
531  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin.local - tradebitcoin.com on: June 10, 2012, 08:25:42 PM
If you are interested to this kind of site, check out my newest project localbitcoins.com

I'm developing it now actively, and the response has been positive. All kind of feedback welcome.

Bug reports, feature suggestions, etc very welcome!

I asked about possible freelance work and the technology stack that you are using a little while ago. Will you reply?

Sorry, missed it! I'm using python and django. I will have to think about the freelance offer. Now kind of in hurry.
533  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 10, 2012, 08:46:42 AM
I just updated the site:

- Now the equations are simpler: no need for {{ and }}: you can just type mtgoxEUR * 0.95
- New parameters added: USD_in_PHP, USD_in_EUR, all currency conversions from http://openexchangerates.org/latest.json (USD -> any other currency)
- Lots of currencies added (this makes the currency list very long, but it should be usually automatically determined.)
- Minor improvements

Bug reports, feature suggestions, etc very welcome!

Edit: sorry, I didn't add wvap from mtgox, since there are already weighted averages from bitcoincharts.com, which incorporates the trades from all exchanges. (eg. EUR_24h, USD_24h)
534  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 07, 2012, 04:14:07 PM
Else: http://localbitcoins.com/cash_exchange_howto reads like you only target small time exchanges. Can you reword it so I can leave the link at every brick and mortar exchange office that I run into pretending to expect them to also exchange BTC? Wink

Well, I will edit the article "for extra pocket money" -> "for becoming a millionaire" and so on Cheesy Yeah, the guide is probably geared too much for small exchangers, the site is of course suitable for bigger exchangers as well.
535  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 07, 2012, 04:00:03 PM
kind of frustrating, but I'm subbed here. While 2h ago the closest trader was more than 8.000km away, now it's *only* 7.000 Smiley

The map feature takes a long time to develop, and I really want to go to Berlin bitcoiners meeting today, which starts about 1 hour from now.

What was the location you tried to add? Maybe I can quickly add a city database to my app, so that cities/towns can be added without resolving to google database...
536  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 07, 2012, 03:36:20 PM
Ok, so I can't add myself. I'm in Chile where there are no ZIP codes. It doesn't allow me to save my Ad.
Considering that the nearest traders are at 8.000km I feel a bit alone here Sad

Why not have a map to click in where I am?

Hmm OK, I will try to add that kind of feature. Just have to think a way to implement it...

You can also try adding by a city/town name. However currently it might not work, since google has probably blocked our location requests...
537  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 07, 2012, 02:55:05 PM
SOme serious bugs found when you left min and max amount undefined. These should be fixed now. Sorry for the downtime!
538  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 07, 2012, 02:21:52 PM
BTW, anyone have suggestions where I could fetch normal currency exchange rates, eg. NOK -> EUR? Cheesy

I was gonna say if you can automate the pricing it would be nice.

Yeah, it is now automated. The values should be updated each 5 minutes. You can use any parameters from bitcoincharts.com, for example {{ mtgoxEUR_close }}, {{ mtgoxUSD_high }} etc. Also wighted averages for currencies can be used: {{ USD_24h }}, {{ EUR_7d }}

I'll try to add more parameters in the following days...
539  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 07, 2012, 02:00:28 PM
mebbe i are doing it wrong - what format does country code have?

http://localbitcoins.com/postal_code/DE/10627/
puts me in the right spot, but the frontpage puts my ad (http://localbitcoins.com/ad/25) like this:

340.3 km   4.23 EUR   100.00 - 5000.00 EUR   Contact!

Hmm ok, so the ad location is wrong... I'll try to fix it.
540  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: June 07, 2012, 01:08:19 PM
I did enter 10627 Berlin, but it still put me 340 km away (Frankfurt, imho)

http://localbitcoins.com/postal_code/DE/10627/

Hmm, seems to work for me, it is 4,5 kilometers from my place (10557, Berlin).
