Lol, update from my rigs:
My i5-3570k has found 1 block since launch.
My ancient cheapo Athlon X2 BE-2300 has found 4 blocks. x___x
Need to get this up on my brother's computer :p
542  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 08, 2013, 11:45:11 AM
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't there already an existing set of prime numbers that are known?

Would this not be applicable to the proof of work function here?

Perhaps I am thinking about it wrong. I read through Sunny's paper. Thanks Sunny for the document.

I dont seem to understand how your proof of work is not exploited by existing known prime numbers that could be easily ported into the hash function to generate blocks.

What am I missing?  Huh

This is a common misunderstanding about primes. Primes are very abundant per prime number theorem. There is no such thing as 'prime table' at the scale of a hundred digits, as there are too many of them, like 1 out of a couple hundreds.

So mining with some CPU cores, is it worth it at diff 7? You guys still getting something? Smiley
It's been at 7 since the start. Same chance as at launch.

i need a mac os x client
Does it not compile?

Quick updates are very nice.
At block 742, we'll see how this goes past 750. Tongue
And... Client crash  at 750 :/
545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 08, 2013, 08:33:21 AM
If http://www2.crypto-expert.com/primecoin/ is to be trusted, a little while ago there were 44 connections mining and 20500 XPM already released.
If most of us are getting 1 or 2 rewards at 20XPM per reward... we can estimate we have mined 2640 XPM (estimate based on 3 rewards per connection).

so... Where did all the other rewards go? Pre-Mining by the creator(s)?

People just started mining and people had mined and stopped before. It's a bit silly to estimate, honestly. I doubt Sunny King would premine and not disclose.
546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Announcing Galaxycoin - GLX, the new PoW/PoS coin, no premine! on: July 08, 2013, 08:09:00 AM
Sorry guys, this looks like a failed trial.

I think we have two options:

1. Hard-fork at say, block 800. I can revert back to PP-coin/Novacoin retarget algorithm (still each block).
2. Do nothing and let it die. In which case I'll lock this thread.

Let me know which you prefer.

1 Sounds find. The retarget every block seems okay in theory, just not the massive difficulty swing it's currently getting (i.e. double/half per block). Just leads to nothing being mined for a while.... then suddenly block block block block block, back to nothing...

Fixable though. Go for it Tongue
547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CatholicCoin - Catholic Coin - Religion Coin on: July 08, 2013, 07:39:09 AM
The word 'Catholic' just means 'Universal'.
Bitcoin is already the universal coin.

That's like saying McDonalds or Coke is universal.

There's no such thing.  Bitcoin is only a first mover and is lacking in many things.  For example, what % of their coins goes to charity?  Oh, zero.  There's a problem if you're looking for a good cause coin.
Whichever amount you choose to give to charity, like all charity. Tongue

Hm, yeah. I think a relaunch with a tweaked retarget would be alright. Right now it's going from a cgminer diff of ~500 to a diff of ~69.4k in 40 seconds with 8 blocks found in that span.... it's a huge roller-coaster ride. Seems decent enough besides that, again.

Mining with the Linux client does not work. I get 0 primes per second even though my processors are pegged at 100%...
Odd, how long as it been running? I'm getting ~40 on an ancient Xubuntu rig.

Several minutes now. It even mines at 0 pps on the testnet. My windows box works just fine though at ~130pps.
Not sure...
Only thing I can think of is your blockchain is bugged and not seen as synced. It's compiled and synced flawlessly on a couple linux boxes now, so I'm not sure what could be wrong on your end.
550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CMC]CosmosCoin-PoW/PoS |Transaction Comment|0 Premine|Quick Confirm on: July 08, 2013, 07:14:30 AM
The client keeps crashing while downloading the blockchain, am I the only one getting this?
I haven't had that issue, sorry. Do you get errors or what exactly happens?

Hm. I appear to be generating; I use setgenerate true.

But nothing appears to be mined after about an hour.

Difficulty already high?
It was high at launch. Not that many total blocks have been found. I have 1 block myself. Just keep it running in the background, you'll find something eventually. Tongue

Not a bad idea overall, the retarget rate is a bit extreme. Looks interesting aside from that, though Smiley

Oh no, a coin I can't mine massive amounts on launch Sad
Already over 2 difficulty.
The world is ending!
555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would cpu mining with my laptop overheat the cpu? on: July 08, 2013, 06:25:22 AM
so if I limit the mining cpu usage to let's say 65%, then it won't overheat?
It depends on your laptop, honestly.

Even on my desktop, I use 50% of my CPU (2/4 cores) to keep the heat down and to not limit my GPU's from doing their own thing.

I'd advise to just not attempt it, but if you do, limit it. On windows, an easy way to do it is just by using Ctrl+Shift+Esc, right click what's mining and change the Affinity (to bind to certain cores) and Priority (to low, so it doesn't slow down your other applications).
556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would cpu mining with my laptop overheat the cpu? on: July 08, 2013, 05:58:09 AM
Erm... Yes.
You can limit how much of the CPU it uses, but as a general blanket answer: Yes.
557  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CatholicCoin - Catholic Coin - Religion Coin on: July 08, 2013, 05:54:49 AM
Always on topic. I agree that feathercoin isn't much in the way of innovation and a charity coin would be a needed thing. By naming it and associating it with something that a lot of people dislike or even despise isn't the right direction, though. I've already said that, though...

I'd support a charity coin that gives to good causes. Especially if it could be teamed with some good devs to be merge-mined with other scrypt coin(s). Or CatholicCoin could just be an organization that runs a set of pools for alt coins with 25% fee that goes toward your causes with the same effect. Either way, do what you want, I may end up using the last idea myself if it's passed over.
558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CatholicCoin - Catholic Coin - Religion Coin on: July 08, 2013, 05:33:55 AM
Spiral et al,

I don't have to release a coin which nobody is against.  There's no such thing.

I've been thrown off threads just for mentioning a different coin or cause my post was a bit too long.

I heard your piece cause I believe in freedom of speech but you're obviously just trolling if you're telling me I can't release a coin cause its not a real corporation or because some people will be against it.

Ever check the news?  Most of the media and wallstreet are against bitcoin. Maybe we should all stop mining bitcoins then, eh?

If you're against this idea, I understand but I'm not gonna sit here and hear bashing just cause you hate the idea.

Respect the fact 3 billion people are Chrstians and half of them are catholic.  Respect others the way you want to be respected.

Please, let's discuss the business of a Catholic Coin (ie. adoption rate, popularity, law suits from the Vatican, trademark infringement, etc) no more bashing the fact you don't like A Christian coin.  That's irrelevant cause 3 billion people would love the idea, and that's the target market.

Any more trolling and I'm forwarding your posts to SaltySpitoon, she's a nice gal, she let me off once but two violations and you're banned.  Psy and Mange (global mods) don't like this trolling bit either so this is the final warning.

Thanks.
.... Wow.
1) 33% of 7 billion isn't 3 Billion.
2) I'm not trolling. This is a thread to discuss adoption of your niche coin. I'm discussing your niche within a niche within a niche, i.e. the topic.
3) You're not going to sit there and hear bashing? Then why ask for opinions? If you don't want opinions, don't ask for them.
4) As much as you'd like to keep increasing your number of miners (first it was 1 billion, then 1.4 billion, now 3 billion), hardly any of them will support this. This isn't trolling, this is math, and this is the topic. Threaten me again for staying on topic.

Well whatdayaknow, I got my first mined block just now, hah.

Hey guys, I got notification from the icon saying I got one block. But I couldn't find it in "transaction" or the "unconfirmed" amount.

What is the problem? Orphan?
Yeah, if nothing's in your transaction list, it's an orphan. Bad luck.

Well whatdayaknow, I got my first mined block just now, hah.
Nice, grats. Anyone have an equation for the block reward? I've skimmed through, didn't find anything though.
Seems it's going down gradually, but I'm not sure of the full trajectory.
I got 20.33 for my block, but it was fairly early on.
