561  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I think gambling is inbuilt, kids don't learn it anywhere, they do it! on: October 20, 2023, 06:57:28 AM
The Australian Government once said about abolishing gambling ads as a means of reducing gambling activities amongst underage people. But, I think they'll be no successful way of stopping young people from gambling. As it's in them. Most articles here also say things like gambling addiction being hereditary. That means gambling can be hereditary as well. Because I just watched from a distant two kids below 10 years, staking bets, after a long argument about who the artiste of a specific song is. They later staked close to 40 cents each, for the person who gets the answer right. Then they went ahead to verify. And I lost sight of them. I thought about, how come or who thought these kids about betting money during a long argument. I was able to memorize, back when I was a kid. We easily said, how much would you bet if it turns out I'm saying the truth; during an argument. It made me understand that, despite during those days we had no phones or access to the internet, gambling is somehow embedded to the brain of humans. Then, as a child, we weren't exposed to gambling. I could only remember of lotto, as a kid. But we still said things like "let's bet it"

1.It's true that some people are genetically more responsive towards addictions. Their brains react in a different way and it's easier for them to become addicted. This is a very long topic and I don't want to dive in. I'm no expect in psychology.
2.I've also heard kids saying "let's bet it" multiple times. That doesn't necessarily mean that they will become active gamblers when they grow up. They've probably seen their dads betting somewhere and they try to copy this behavior(or they saw people gambling in movies or TV series). I don't believe that gambling is embedded in our minds since we are born.
562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was ripped off on: October 20, 2023, 06:07:57 AM
I sent a guy a down payment on a car. I use a program called Electrum. After I sent him the money I figured out I was being scammed. Do I have any recourse? Any way to recover my money?

I do have the guys wallet ID and the transaction ID.

Thankfully is was only 55.58663 mBTC

No, you can't recover the BTC.
The only thing you could do is to call the police and tell them about the scammer. Did you met the scammer in person? Do you know how the scammer looks like?
Another good thing you can do it so explain to the forum members the scam in detail. Where did you find the scammer and what is he offering?
Does he sell cars and asks for a down payment in BTC? Why would you send a down payment(in a currency, that cannot be refunded) for a car? Legit car sellers don't ask for such down payments.
563  Economy / Speculation / Re: Recent market manipulation shows the enormous potential to reach the moon! on: October 19, 2023, 11:16:28 AM
1.It's true that a lot crypto investors are waiting for the Blackrock BTC ETF to be approved in order to start buying.
I don't think that this has anything to do with Bitcoin's intrinsic value. This is just a speculative bullish expectation.
Speculations have nothing to do with the intrinsic value of an asset. They just come and go.
2.The Bitcoin price went up by 10% for a short time frame. This isn't so impressive. We've seen the Bitcoin price doing way bigger ups in the past.
3.The possibility of a price crash/bearish market remains. Many "bears" are betting on a price drop, which will the "bull" on the market to lose money. There's no guarantee that the Blackrock Bitcoin ETF will be approved.
564  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: October 19, 2023, 06:57:45 AM

Ukraine has last opportunity to qualify EURO 2024 if last match against Italy can get win, its become final match for both teams if want qualify to EURO 2024 in  Germany.
That is right, there is a final match between Ukraine and Italy. Italy has lost 2x against England now 3:1 and on the 1st matchday 2:1. Italy has played against Northmacedonia 1:1, that was unbelievably, even Ukraine has won against them 2:0. Italy can be glad that the first game against the Ukraine 2:1 have won, they should have won even higher. On 17.11. Italy must play again against Northmacedonia and then against the Ukrainie few day later on 20.11.

Northmaceddonia? Is that how you write the name of North Macedonia? I like it. Grin From now on I will always write Northmacedonia instead of North Macedonia. Grin
Anyway, Italy was struck by a scandal involving some of their players being accused for illegal sports betting and fixed games.
I don't know how this scandal had negatively influenced their team against England(or maybe England was simply too good).
I'm sure that Italy has enough good players to win against both Northmacedonia and Ukraine.
England can achieve something big on Euro 2024, if they keep their top performance.

just recently Israel ban Bitcoin because it has been perceived to be a tool to finance their enemies,  but the questions is, can this ban change anything?

Any link to the source of information? We've been talking about BTC being used to fund terrorism for about 10 years and the Israeli government managed to find out that this is true just recently. This is suspicious. I don't believe this and I don't want to get into conspiracy theories about the Hamas attack.
No, this ban won't change anything. Terrorists and criminals will still be using Bitcoin(and altcoins) along with fiat currencies like the US dollar and the euro. No government in the world can stop terrorists and criminals from using a particular currency or financial asset.
And no, Bitcoin is NOT bigger than any government in the world. Bitcoin is just a financial tool, like all the other financial assets and currencies.

1.I think that your forum thread title is very misleading and I smell clickbait. Grin Do you suggest that Warren Buffet is "the dog that vomited and ate the vomit"? Why would you think of such disgusting thing? Grin
2.Berkshire Hathaway has it's own managers and directors, who are running the business. Just because Berkshire Hathaway had bought some crypto-friendly financial institution in Brazil doesn't mean that Warren Buffet has something to do with this decision. Buffet is just a big shareholder of the company.
3.Many people would think that Buffet is a hypocrite, when he talks about Bitcoin/crypto, but I think that he is sincere in his hatred towards Bitcoin. I can totally understand why he hates Bitcoin/crypto.

How many percent of signature earnings you gamble away?

Do you prefer Fiat or crypto at a display currency?

What is your favorite game you play all the time?

What is your favorite casino platform?

Are you a responsible gambler?

1.There's no fixed percentage. The amount can be bigger in one week and smaller in the next week.

2.Why do you even care about this? This is a crypto forum and all the forum members(including me) prefer crypto.

3.Poker. I wouldn't bother with dice/crash/roulette/blackjack, etc..

4.You realize that the forum members here are participating in crypto casino sig campaigns, right? Do you really expect an honest answer?

5.Again, do you really expect an honest answer here? Even gambling addicts could say that they are responsible gamblers.
568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wow! US Gov among largest Bitcoin hodlers with over $5B in BTC - and Tim Draper? on: October 18, 2023, 06:00:43 AM
It's not just the US government holding big amounts of BTC. There were rumors about my country's government holding more than 12 billion USD worth of BTC, which were confiscated from criminals years ago(when the BTC price was way lower). I don't know if those rumors are true, though. What if all the governments, that are holding confiscated BTC decided to sell all their BTC at once? We might be witnessing a 10K-15K Bitcoin price, if such thing happens.
Tim Draper did something smart back in 2014. Should we really discuss his decision here? I doubt that he is a hardcore HODLer, but I might be wrong. There's too much room for speculation, when we are talking about crypto whales and their crypto wealth.
569  Economy / Economics / Re: In times of war, Gold rises. What about Bitcoin? on: October 17, 2023, 10:21:59 AM
I've seen Gold market prices rising lately as a result of the current Israel-Hamas conflict. However, Bitcoin hasn't experienced any upsurge in price. It's still hovering around the $26k range. Something similar happened during the Russia-Ukraine war.

Is it because investors still don't trust Bitcoin as a store of value? Or is it something else? Please enlighten me. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley

The US dollar value also goes up in times of war and Bitcoin is mostly valued in US dollars. Don't ask me why the US dollar value goes up.
We live in a crazy world and nothing makes sense anymore.  Angry The laws of finance and economics are about to be thrown at the garbage.
Bitcoin is too volatile to be seen as a "safe heaven" asset like gold. I don't think that the Isreal-Hamas conflict will have such a big impact over the prices of all commodities and financial assets. There was a short term impact in the oil price, but it's over.
There will be an impact, if the conflict escalates and Iran blocks the Persian gulf, but I don't think that Iran really wants such escalation.
570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Drake's Curse. on: October 17, 2023, 06:49:52 AM
1.Logan Paul and Dillon Danis are well known crypto NFT scammers(and shitcoin pump and dump scammers). Does anyone really expect two scammers to have a fair fight? I think that this "choking scene" was made up in order for Danis to be disqualified and many people to lose their bets.
2.Drake is a millionaire. Does anyone feel sorry about a millionaire losing 850K USD on gambling? What's wrong with you people?
What about giving those 850K USD for charity, instead of wasting them on a probably rigged fight between two crypto scammers?
571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin needs Ethereum VM to reach its full potential — Web3 exec on: October 17, 2023, 06:10:36 AM
https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-needs-ethereum-evm-botanix-founder

Botanix Labs founder Willem Schroé argues a “huge amount of value” from real-world assets will be captured on Bitcoin, provided it connects to the Ethereum Virtual Machine.

Mainstream Bitcoin adoption won’t happen until it bridges to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) — the first point of entry for many real-world assets moving on-chain, a Web3 executive argues.

If that's true then it doesn't look for bitcoin. Might as well invest in ethereum...

Maybe you should put this thread in the Altcoin Discussions forum.
What the hell is an Ethereum virtual machine? I'm not an expert on Ethereum and I don't care that much about all the "new innovations" in the ETH blockchain, that end up being used for scams(ICOs, NFTs, you name it). I Googled it and it seems that EVM is simply an environment for ETH smart contracts. So this guy is basically shilling the EVM by adding Bitcoin to the conversation. Bitcoin is doing just fine without ETH, smart contracts and all that sh*t. I'm sure that Bitcoin will be alright in the future without any fancy "improvements" involving smart contracts.
This "huge amount of value from real-world assets will be captured in Bitcoin, provided it connects to EVM" statement is total nonsense.
How do you "capture" the value of a real world asset in Bitcoin?

Adswage: Adswage is a platform where you can earn money by viewing advertisements. It pays about $1 per ad view. Search them on Google to learn more about how to participate.

A paid-to-click website that pays 1 USD per ad view? That sounds too good to be true. This Adswage website seems relatively new. Can somebody post feedback about his experience on this website.
What's the reason for you to post this list, OP? Most of those website are very popular and I'm sure that at least 99% of the forum members know about them. Some of those websites are legit, while others have a bad reputation(like Mechanical Turk, which has a Trstpilot score of 2/5). The actual list of freelance and microtask platforms is way bigger. There are GRT websites like Freecash(an alternative to Swagbucks), but most of their offers are targeting people, who are living in Tier 1 Countries like USA, UK, Canada and Australia.
573  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Low cost but effective solutions to gambling addiction on: October 16, 2023, 06:20:28 AM
One of the solutions which is recommended by most gamblers on this forum for gambling addiction is "Therapy" . Professional help in the form of therapy. It is good and very effective but how many persons can actually afford it? There is a fee for each session that lasts for a duration of 60minutes. And there are more than one session. Therapy for gambling addiction is expensive. How can those who are unemployed afford it? How about the college student? Or the person receiving minimum wage. What are the other low cost but very effective solutions to gambling addiction. And typically how long will it take before the addict starts to feel more in control and less withdrawal symptoms?
Will totally appreciate your responses. Thanks.

I agree that psychotherapy can be very expensive (and not very effective).
The most cost effective solution to battle gambling addictions is to QUIT gambling completely. I know it sounds impossible for an addict, but there's no solution, that has a lower cost than this one. Every gambling addict must realize the repercussions of his behavior and the fact that things will only get worse for him, if he keeps wasting money on gambling. Talking with friends and family and addressing the problem seems way better than paying for therapy. I know that this seems embarrassing, but facing the shame of your existential failure is inevitable and it is the first step towards your recovery.
574  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin In Bullish or Bearish Trend? on: October 16, 2023, 05:40:03 AM
The current state of the Bitcoin market can be summarized in one or two sentences.
Everyone is waiting for the bull market, but nobody is buying, because they are waiting for the price to drop even further, before the bull run comes. This might sound ridiculous, but it's true. BTC trading volumes have dropped down, because the army of Bitcoin HODLers have increased and the army of Bitcoin day traders have decreased in size. On the other hand, the lack of big trading volume and liquidity on the market is what stops the bull run from coming. Everyone is waiting for the bull run, but the bull run isn't coming because nobody is buying. Grin Sometimes Bitcoin/crypto can be really absurd.

Having money in some bank that invests in real estate doesn't mean you own real estate, having coins in an exchange that owns bitcoin doesn't mean you have bitcoins, you only have an IOU that has no value once that exchange is gone!

So, fog god's sake, stop thinking about 5% extra and think more of the 100% you might lose!

Your rant should be pointed at all the people in China, who have bank deposits. Depositing money in a bank is like giving a loan to the bank. The bank could manage your money really well and pay you back the loan plus an interest rate, but it can waste the money on failed companies and go bankrupt.
The people in China have faith in their banking system because "the government guarantees everything". AFAIK, this was called a "moral risk".
The people, who bought shitcoins and LUNA tokens knew that their shitcoins aren't guaranteed by any entity, but they still bought them.
The real estate bubble in China is probably the biggest real estate bubble in history(maybe bigger than the US bubble).
I've read an article that China has enough empty apartments for it's entire population, but nobody wants to buy them. I don't know if this is true, though.
576  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An agent is no where to be found. on: October 15, 2023, 06:58:04 AM
Today I witness something very strange in the area where I live recently. There was a gambling shop that was not too far from where I am staying, so every day different gamblers visit the shop to bet on games, some win and some don't win a dime.

So, yesterday afternoon, a man bet on a midnight game and the game played accordingly as predicted, but the surprising thing was that the betting agent ran away with the money the man won, and the betting agent is no where to be found.

However, I am here to say these are the reasons why it is not always good to gamble in a betting agent's shop, because if the manager of the shop does not run with the money a gambler wins, then one of the workers in the betting shop might run away with the money someone wins, so I do conclude that an online gambling site with good reputation is the best for gambler, so what do you guys have to say about this?.

I guess that by "gambling shop" you mean sports betting/bookmaker "shop"?
Those sports betting offline places(and the sports betting agents, who run them) must have a license to conduct such kind of business.
If this bookie didn't have a license, he is most likely a scammer. I don't know where do you live. The story you are describing seems to have happened in some underdeveloped country in Africa, Asia or Latin America. I highly doubt that such thing would happen in a European country.
Online sports betting platforms aren't necessarily more secure than offline bookmaker shops. The gamblers will always have to careful, it doesn't matter if they are placing bets online or offline.
577  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there an alternative way? on: October 15, 2023, 06:15:27 AM
Hodling is something almost everyone in the Bitcoin ecosystem wants to participate in,and therefore the use of cold wallets and hard ware wallets which deem to be more secure is necessary. However how really does one keep his hodling wallet secret from the internet with the open source nature of Bitcoin. For instance assuming you have multiple Bitcoin wallets and a particular HODLING wallet which you fund using the other wallets(the multiple wallets), using block chain explorers to inspect the transaction history of the other wallets will give a trace to the hodling wallet and therefore give someone the ability to monitor the assets in your HODLING wallet .How then can this problem be solved? Of course someone may suggest Using mixers to run the transactions how ever is there any other alternative way of moving funds to a hodling wallet from other wallets without any trace?
Also I would like to understand more about how mixers work so I will appreciate any summarized explanation or any article on mixing.

Aren't you a little bit paranoid? Who is going to monitor and track the transactions in your cold wallet? Unless you are a big crypto whale, who is HODLing several millions USD worth of BTC, nobody is going to give a sh*t about your cold wallet. Having a good opsec(operational security) and being aware about the nature of most crypto scams/hacks is more than enough to keep your cold wallet safe.
I don't recommend using BTC mixers(unless you are dealing with some darknet stuff and you have something to hide). You might lose your coins, if you send them to an untrustworthy BTC mixer. Sooner or later all BTC mixers exit scam eventually.
578  Economy / Gambling / Re: Cryptocasinofinder.org - Trusted Guide to Crypto Casinos on: October 13, 2023, 06:14:42 AM
I don't understand why such "crypto casino review" websites keep popping up.
We already have the Gambling, Scam Accusations and Gambling Discussions forums in Bitcointalk.org. Here, the users could post their reviews, scam accusations and honest feedback about all crypto casinos. What's the point of having a separate review website, which probably doesn't even have enough web traffic?
I'm also seeing that OP has posted a 5-star review about 1xBit(like another forum member had mentioned). This is a big red flag about the trustworthiness of OP's reviews. I guess that OP wants to make money via gambling affiliate commissions from the casinos, but having biased reviews won't help for building trust among the gamblers.
579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Lightning Network Growth 1212% in the last 2 years on: October 13, 2023, 05:38:29 AM
Quote
Sam Wouters, River's research analyst said the figure was "surprising" due to the drop in Bitcoin (BTC) price and loss of interest in online searches.
The report revealed that Bitcoin's price has fallen by 44%, while online searches for the top cryptocurrency have fallen by 45% since then, yet Lightning Network continues to grow.

The research analyst highlighted that Lightning Network has achieved a lot despite the market downturn and only having 5,000 BTC locked on the network.

Is there supposed to be a correlation between LN's growth and the Bitcoin price growth? I don't know why Sam Wouters is searching for such correlation. LN is supposed to be growing in times of high transaction fees, when the BTC blockchain is congested. There was such time frame(due to the Bitcoin Ordinals, I guess). The Bitcoin price and the online searches about BTC has little to do with this.
5000 BTC being locked in the Lighting Network proves that there's no actual growth of LN. It's just a bunch of channels inside LN, that are transacting more often between each other.
580  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Is Better Than Digital Gold on: October 12, 2023, 11:40:19 AM
The connection between gold and bitcoin (BTC) as stores of value is obvious, and the demand for BTC as a digital store of value was a big reason why the cryptocurrency grew in popularity, crypto services provider Matrixport said in a report Monday.
Bitcoin’s market capitalization is $540 billion, equivalent to 10.8% of the market cap of physical financial gold, Matrixport said, adding that gold exchange-traded-funds (ETFs) are valued at $200 billion. Read

What connection? Both Bitcoin and Gold can be viewed as a store of value, but that doesn't make them connected.
Bitcoin value has grown over the years not because Bitcoin is a store of value, but because Bitcoin is a speculative asset. Gold isn't a speculative asset. The Gold investors don't buy gold because they expect that the Gold price is going to hit absurd levels. They buy gold in order to protect the value of their capital from various risks(inflation and market crashes). That's why gold was called a "safe heaven" asset.
Bitcoin is being bought mostly because everyone is expecting a new bull wave and a new ATH price level.
