561  Economy / Economics / Stocks about to plunge 16% in next 3 months - Wells Fargo Warns on: September 21, 2013, 06:50:33 PM

Get ready for a chaotic market over the next few months.  With QE pumping and all the other fiscal mis-management going on this prediction is highly likely.  Questions is, will BTC get a big boost or slide downwards with the rest of the markets?

i used to listen to Plan B (jupiterbroadcasting) but they seem to have ceased operations.

What ever happened to them?  They had a good show and I thought they would be back after a couple of weeks.

Anandtech found that the iPhone 5s bested leading rival smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and LG G2 in each and every CPU performance test performed, often by a fairly wide margin. In some tests such as the Sunspider Javascript Benchmark and the Google Octane, the iPhone 5s’s margin of victory over most rivals was staggering.

They break so easy and cost so much to replace.

My Ipad Screen cost $100 to replace after my toddler broke it.  My Samsung SII Cost $100 to fix after I bricked it trying to root it.  I don't believe Apple products cost more to fix.  I would argue they might cost less because there are so many after market parts in production.  Also, My Ipad 2 is better built then My Asus Tablet.  You can just feel the quality difference.

Look at the iOS 7 design and icons. If it's not designed for kids, who is it designed for?

I actually like the new design and feel of IOS 7.  (Might be just because I wanted a change However).  I have had winterboard and many different themes with my jail broke Ipad.  IOS 7 theme feels as good or better than several of the others I have tried.  Once IOS 7 is jailbroke I am sure more themes will again be available.

Android is better than iOS in many ways. Once rooted, it is much more customizable than iOS (even jailbroken). You have full control over your device, and it is very fun to play with.

I am much more ANDROID lover than an apple fan.  Open sourced android is more fun and does have more control.  But, jailbroken apples are very customizable and do have some advantages.  For example, I love pandora downloader for IOS.  Android does not have any equivalent app near as good.  The app allows me to "rip" a song being played and save it right to the internal memory.  All of the Android ones that attempt to offer the same compatibility fail miserably.  Another advantage to IOS is they support the devices with software updates for 3-4 years.  Android device manufacturers are lucky to give any software updates more than a year later. (Good thing Rooted phones can get more android updates)

I have both IOS and Android devices and like each one for different reasons.  I like android for the "Power User" reason and feel.  Changing roms and customizing at the system level is nice.  And being opensource means the developer community is much larger.  But a closed source IOS with simplicity like Apple does appeal to some.  I am glad we have manufactures competing for our business.  Gives us more (and better) products to choose from.  Apple has had good products.  Now the question is, has anyone tried a Microsoft tablet?

iOS - kids edition

Kids edition?  When jailbroken it works every bit as good as my rooted android tablet and phone running 4.3 (Jelly Bean).  In some respects its even better.  Why do you believe that?

Ipad 2 installed on today.  I like the overall feel and response.  Didn't really want to give up my jailbreak, but the new OS seemed worth trying.

The final 0.00000001 BTC will be mined on March 2, 2138.

You can hold me to that.  If it does not happen on that exact date look dig me up and I will give you $1000 worth of BTC.  Of course that will be exactly 0.00001 BTC on that date.  You can hold me to that also.

Burtw is essentially right.  Most (98%) of the "complete" bitcoins will be mined by 2050.  So by 2140 there will essentially only be a satoshi or two.  As the block rewards keep getting cut in half, the last fifty years you are slicing fractions of a bitcoin.  This argument has been discussed several times, but this thread link has some charts which may put it more into perspective for some members:

You will have to wait at least 50+ years until the giveaway then...
The block reward halves after a certain amount of Bitcoins are mined, so it will take very long until the last rewards are given.

Not sure why you first posted only 50+ years and now you are guessing 2120 (100+ years).  You seem to have a knowledge how it works but your first guess was way off.

I think me and Dabs are the closest and we should split the prize!  Smiley

2140

False, it will be ealier than 2140 ^^
Network power is more likely to grow than to drop and difficulty adjustments lag behind.

The difficulty adjusts to keep in line with the 2140 goal.  There may be some variance near the end.....but network power is factored into the equation.  As network power increases, so does difficulty to keep the inflation at its calculated date.

2120 may be realistic near the end of mining but I doubt.  I know network power is out pacing difficulty and there is a lag.  But it is nowhere where these users are predicting.  None of us will know however because it is beyond our lifetime (unless life expectancy increase with new innovation!)

Wow, you really think it will take that long? If it does get harder to mine wont less and less people think that its worth the electricity and stop befpre the end?

Yep...that is how they were built.  They will keep halving the block rewards till 2140.  You can read more on the basics here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin

Quote
In addition to archiving transactions, each new ledger update creates some newly minted bitcoins. The number of new bitcoins created in each update is halved every 4 years until the year 2140 when this number will round down to zero. At that time no more bitcoins will be added into circulation and the total number of bitcoins will have reached a maximum of 21 million bitcoins.

Virtex

I didn't add them to the poll because its not USD (CAN).  But thanks for the submission, I am sure others are interested in it.

The amount of SLL I can get on virwox, sold for USD and withdrawn to paypal.

I'll be honest, I didn't know what an SLL was but I have now researched your suggestion.  I am going to leave it off the poll because it is a little bit different trading SLL/USD/BTC.  Glad you posted this however because I did not know of this site.

578  Economy / Speculation / Re: How do YOU value Bitcoins worth? on: September 15, 2013, 10:58:57 PM
I am surprised Coinbase didn't make your cut. That's what a majority of people, at least in the US, would prefer because it is very liquid and easily convertible between BTC and USD.

Ill add them to the poll as people post.
579  Economy / Speculation / How do YOU value Bitcoins worth (USD)? on: September 15, 2013, 10:43:25 PM
Just curious what everyone is now choosing to value a Bitcoins worth (USD)?

580  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is Bitcoin so cheap? on: September 15, 2013, 09:59:39 PM
Vladimir,

I think we are arguing two different view points regarding the phrase "The Market is Always Right".

Read this short article:
http://www.fxtimes.com/commentaries/the-market-is-always-right-even-when-its-wrong/

I believe you are arguing against point number 1 from this article (the market is not 100% efficient), and I am arguing for point number 2.

In essence, we are attacking the phrase from different positions.  If this is the case, then your statements would be as valid as mine and I totally understand your view.  We just have a different prospective of the phrase.

I was just trying to answer the thread title "Why are Bitcoins So Cheap" from a common economic position.   It is because the market dictated the price.  It is not relevant what somebody thinks it should be.
