Is there a problem with new user signups?  Huh

I signed up this morning and pointed to hashcows, and while it's been acknowledging my hash rate all day, I haven't earned a single share. I've basically wasted an entire day mining so far as I was at work and couldn't point it at something else.

The FAQ is there for a reason, read it.  It explains some of that and here is nearmiss' further explanation.

You won't see a change to your BTC balance until payouts happen, once a day at GMT 04:00:00.  Normally you'd have an "Estimated Un-Exchanged" and "Estimated Exchagned" value that grows and adjusts throughout the day, those are currently disabled, and being worked on.  If you don't have a balance *after* payout time, its something to be concerned about, and let support know.

The way to deal with Eaglecnt is to put him on ignore.  If you guys hadn't responded to his comment, I would never have known he was back spreading his self-hating, self-pitying poison around again.

Just think how empty and meaningless his life is, for him to derive a thrill out of thread crapping.  Sucks to be him. Sad

BTW by my count there are 39 client volunteers, 5 node voluteers and 2 security.

If you need another client tester, I can do so, but I lack the expertise to perform the other tasks.
583  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Pool][Profit-Switch][Optional Auto-Exchange per Coin][Vardiff] ~ Hashcows on: January 09, 2014, 08:17:34 PM
^^ AMEN!!!

It' time for all the children to grow up.  Take the responsibility to read before you post.  Stop assuming that every time something isn't working, somebody's trying to screw you.  If you're that skittish about your mining activity, then maybe you should put your video cards to us playing games instead.

We're all in the same boat.  Time to try helping and understanding . . . NOT WHINE.

I, for one, am grateful as I can be to atriz and nearmiss for the effort they've put in to get this pool back in better shape than it was before the hack.

A little patience and gratitude is little enough to ask for their efforts.
584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Pool][Profit-Switch][Optional Auto-Exchange per Coin][Vardiff] ~ Hashcows on: January 09, 2014, 07:06:12 PM
Ok....just...WOW all that wasted work last night. See this is what I meant about keeping us "in the know." I wouldn't have been mining with you all night had you specified it was not just a simple "stratum issue" or slow data imports, but actual factual ****ed up rounds with 0 payout.

Next sign of error, I'm off to middlecoin til all this crap is in working order. Prices are too low and going lower too quick to piss around.

Sorry, but business is business.

 Embarrassed
585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Pool][Profit-Switch][Optional Auto-Exchange per Coin][Vardiff] ~ Hashcows on: January 09, 2014, 03:51:06 PM
How often does "current balance" update? I've been mining for 16 hours with 2.3MH/s and I only have 0.00000522 balance which is ridiculous! I got 2 million accepted shares and 30k rejected (I think cgminer switched in between, so maybe this is just from last 1 hr, don't know).
Does anyone ever bother to read even the last 2 pages of a forum thread anymore before just jumping in and asking a question?

agreed, i'm about to sign up to hashcows for testing and these password requirements are cumbersome

about 85% of the computers i use are 23 year old radio shack types and a variety of letters can be quite sticky
not to mention letters can be used to form words that some people find offensive

i say make required passwords be a 3 digit pin (no duplicate digits! i might hit the key twice on accident!) and leave it at that
If this isn't sarcasm, I just don't quite know what to say . . . maybe . . . Wow! Roll Eyes
587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Pool][Profit-Switch][Optional Auto-Exchange per Coin][Vardiff] ~ Hashcows on: January 09, 2014, 02:33:53 PM
The problem is that if you don't enforce users to use capital letters, numbers and punctuation, they will use just lowercase chars, for lazyness.
Thus, if a hacker brute-forces with lowercase chars, he will be successful on most users.
Actually, brute force attacks works very well with dictionaries, so the real benefit would be not allowing common words, instead of enforcing capitals or numbers.
I have experience of this because I did security audits on unix machines back in the nineties: you could easily find most passwords by using a dictionary + some numbers and mixed caps.

I don't agree with the enforce of punctuation and uppercase for two reasons:

1) most (new) keyboard don't have the CAPS LIGHT, so you don't know if you are in uppercase or not, you have no idea how many customers bitches about the uppercase thing with the wireless keyboards, because they type it wrong several times and the passwords gets disabled, all because those keyboards don't have the caps light.

2) punctuation: about 70% of every computer i work on, have the keyboard language mapping wrong, so punctuation are everywhere except where you expect it, so, it is impossible (unless you remember the position of the punctuation keys) to type a password like that if you can't see what are you typing because the mapping does not match the real keyboard.

I think is better to use only lowercase letters and numbers, and a dictionary check, if the password is found in the dictionary, it will force you to choose another one.

Honestly? Roll Eyes

Nearmiss has made it clear and frankly, most people agree with the current password policy.  Further argument is pointless and serves no positive purpose.  Accept it and move on.

Give 'em a break.  They have the site up and running.  Next couple of days everything should straighten out.

Pretty sure it's all in good fun. No pressure intended, at least on my end. Glad to see progress.

EDIT: Seeing as I shouldn't double post...

Can I get a reading of how comfortable people might be with mining coins that may or more-so are certain to hit an exchange before they do, then getting payed out after? Might make a good amount, or might kill all the new alts at exchange launch. Tongue Ideas?

It's nice to be concerned with the alt coins and their death or survival and I fell into that trap by attaching myself to one particular alt-coin . . . so now I have a little over 2100 coins worth very little.  Who knows, maybe at some time they will become valuable, but the truth is, this whole thing isn't about being nice to other coins, it's about making money.

And I have come around to the opinion that . . . the bottom line is the bottom line.  Whatever maximizes Hashcow miners' profits is the way to go.

Wow, nearly a Terahash? That's pretty impressive.  Looks like someone got some orders of magnitude messed up....
Nah, it's that new super-hyper-hashing algorithm they've added to the pool.  We get a 50-fold increase over the hashrate of the entire network . . . Grin

Is anyone else showing an unusually low balance?  I'm at about 1/4 of my expectations.

Not sure, it's difficult to tell as the previous ledger information isn't (yet?) available. Before the site went down for rebuild, I could see that my account had been emptied by the hacker/thief but I didn't take a note of what the stolen balance was as I figured that the rebuild would list the previous transaction history on the account (which might be available later as there is a drop down tab for this).

Another thing to remember is that before Christmas so many people were sucked into the hype of Dogecoin and the pool was making good profits mining and selling DOGE so that inflated pool earnings for a while. That's a great feature of the pool in that it capitalises on the latest hypecoin and sells them to the greedy/delusioned who for unknown reasons seem to think that buying a hyped coin at the top of the market curve is the road to riches. I wonder how many people woke up to themselves in the New Year with worthless DOGE, hahahaha Cheesy

It's early days, site access has only been restored in the last few hours, let's see how things go but it's very fair to say that nearmiss and aTriz have excelled themselves with their response to the hack and theft of coins.

It's good to get site access back guys, thanks very much.

Smiley

Doge!  Much scam.  Very pump and dump.  Many sadness.  Wink

Funny, I don't see any difference and when I log in, nothing happens at all.

Yep.  It's up and you have to change your password to log in.  Woo-hoo!!!

I'm running 2.11.4 and the drop--when one occurs, which is rarely--only lasts 30 seconds.

Something's afoot!  Suddenly can't connect miners . . . could this be a portent of something good? . . .

. . . . reconnected . . . sigh . . . no foot, no portent . . . again Cry

Considering that most of the money has been sent out, and that both have repeatedly posted on this thread including today, the suggestion goes way beyond the pale.

There is nothing to suggest anything other than straight-forward dealing by both nearmiss, and atriz.

Perfect cover for a sudden bail to the tropics.  Cheesy

Again, I don't believe they would do such a thing. I am just a cynic who sees all possible forks in the road.

For those of use who stayed committed and trusting enough to mine in the dark, though, I'd like a .5-1% reduction in fees. I nearly bailed with all the rejects, but I felt bad. The rejects stopped being such a thing after I came there to post my updates of how they were fluxing (I hope that was active maintenance on not coincidence! Smiley )
Not for 40K, man, that's a pittance--like 6-months salary for the average family.

If a person "books it" with less than a couple mil, he's a fool.  Even then a couple mil isn't that much these days if you like comfort.

I want the site to be back up, not to check on my miners, not to change settings....
.... I just want to see these continuous "I can't register and am asking because I failed to read all the other posts saying we're in lockdown/readonly mode on every single page for the last 50 pages of the thread".  Wink

If I still participated in the drinking game I started 50 odd pages ago with a shot for every similar question (For pete's sake, it's in big red text on every page of the pool site now that it's in readonly mode... maybe they should have used the BLINK tag), I'd be in the hospital now...
It's this new entitlement mentality.  No one wants to put any effort into anything anymore.  They all want to be spoon-fed information and if they try something and it doesn't work, they don't investigate the cause, they whine.

It has never once occurred to me to jump on a forum thread and just immediately blurt out a question without first having done at least a cursory search of the last several pages, to see if anyone else is reporting the same difficulty as I and if the solution has been posted.

I guess I'm just old-fashioned that way.  I like to find things our for myself rather than just begging for answers.  I suppose it's because I just don't think that I'm all that special.

Too many people today think that they're "special."

I can't create an account. It gives me the message "INSERT command denied to user 'node'@'li58-8.members.linode.com' for table 'users'"

How can I solve it?
Wait for the website operators to open the new site.  The old one is read only.

READ THE LAST THREE PAGES OF THIS THREAD.

I think there will always be a steady stream of new coins, but when the dust settles BTC and LTC will be the only ones left standing with good value.
There may be a couple of others that offer something of real value.  Stablecoin or Anoncoin offer a higher degree of anonymity,  Namecoin messaging, etc., but there's no doubt that every idiot with a "-coin" name is out there changing a few lines of code and then dumping another junk coin without knowing how to run the coin.

A coin has to offer something beyond being not-bitcoin or not-litecoin.  Whatever, pump and dump, pump and dump.

Freedom, you've got to love it!
