Nana, the Homeless, and Paris friggin Hilton?  Ya lets go all out for that freak show appeal... no offense to them but I am disgusted
by the marketing mentality that takes advantage of them and degrades us all...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDW_Hj2K0wo

So you are saying they are freaks?  You are degrading them and us all.

Repugnant. No offense to nana (I left a supportive comment on her videos actually), but I call fail @ OP.

When you want something promoted, you pick people who are notable to promote it.

Not necessarily.  Some people are famous for being famous.  For instace, Paris Hilton and her notability is highly arguable.  I argue that there is no difference on using Paris Hilton or NaNa to promote something simply because they are famous.

Everyone please be nice to NaNa.  I got her to come to this forum and read your posts.  She is not happy with some things she read.  NaNa is a human being like the rest of us.
584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NaNa: Our new Bitcoin Spokesperson on: March 15, 2012, 09:52:18 PM
Have her cover "Sexy and I know it" by LMFAO with some bitcoin modifications

Girl look at that bitcoin (x3)
I mine coin
Girl look at that bitcoin (x3)
I mine coin

When I walk in the spot, this is what I see
Everybody stops and they staring at me
I got bitcoin in my wallet and I ain't afraid to show it

I Bitcoin and you know it (x2)

... etc.

Choose a popular song and tweak it so its about bitcoins, then the lowest common denominator will be able to appreciate it and not just our tiny community.

I requested her to cover a song.  Not that one but another song.  I don't want to ruin it so it's a secret now.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm just in this for the laughs, sir.

I have a friend who's a youtube troll, "eric parrey" (look him up) who trolls and is awful. I enjoy watching total failure on youtube, and I think it would be hilarious to see NaNa communicate Bitcoin to a confused crowd of people.

Anyways, Jimbobway - let me know when / if there's a final product and let me know where to send the $$'s to.

-Jonathan

Will do!  I come up with something for her and sent it.  Now I guess we'll just wait and hope she pulls throught.

She has to say something about bitcoin to get my money's worth.  Anybody?
587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NaNa: Our new Bitcoin Spokesperson on: March 15, 2012, 05:27:26 AM
ok she will do it!  I need a script!  help!  she will read whatever we give her! most creative one wins.  or we can do it collectively. ready set go!!!
588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NaNa: Our new Bitcoin Spokesperson on: March 15, 2012, 04:48:28 AM
I'd like to step up and offer to put in the first $100 toward promotion of Bitcoin and associated service, jimbob.

Let us know how it goes!

Ok, NaNa replied back to me!  So far it's $150 from me and $100 from Johnathan.  Thx Johnathan!

I told her to do two videos.  For first video I will pay her $100.   If we like it then for the second $150.

For each video we'll pay 50% before and 50% after.

I told her we'll pay her in PayPal :-( or bitcoins.  Hopefully she will take bitcoins.  We'll see what she says.  I'm already thinking of a script:

"Hi, I'm NaNa, the bitcoin girl!  I love you satoshi nakamoto!"

I don't care if NaNa can sing or not.  I care that she is popular and she can promote bitcoin.  I sent her a message so let's see if I get a response.

No offense, but here's the first thing that came to my mind reading your post:

Quote from: My mind

Eureeka! People think of Bitcoiners as overweight, sociopathic, spergy libertards! What's the best way to fix our tarnished image and show those detracting bastards that are in fact strong, successful and capable of crushing the competition? That's right! Nana!

You realize you just made fun of overweight people, used the "r" word (liber*****), and put down libertarians in one sentence?  So you approve of using homeless people to promote technology but not overweight people?  Not trying to break you, just keeping my mind busy using the Internets.

The people posting about her appearance are just as bad as the ones supporting her. She can't sing and that's why she deserves a thumbs down, not other reason.

If the video said "I am beautiful", then it would be a different story.

Judging singers on looks is a pet peve of mine. Korean pop stars aren't singers, they're makeup-laden plastic models who do a bit of dancing while pantomiming and it kills me that society accepts them as "talent".

I don't want to live in this world anymore.

Atlas, show me how to kill myself.

Now, William Hung can't sing either, but look what he did with what he had.  He had a good attitude, most people loved him, and he got to be in the spotlight for a shortwhile.  He was happy and he made others happy.

has anyone tried contacting her to put a bitcoin sticker on her forehead?

This is a fantastic offer, and since sending out an announcement to our list less than an hour ago, we have received Huh

Can you finish your sentence?

First of all, the way it is mined privileges the technical community itself...

If it was easy everyone would be doing it.  I want to become a gold miner but I don't have the machinery to buy bulldozers.  If you don't want to mine you can invest in mining contracts.  Or have miners mine the bitcoins for you.
596  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bitcoin press hits, notable sources on: March 08, 2012, 06:23:47 PM
The author doesn't mention bitcoin but everything he says is implcitly screaming bitcoin (or not).  He talks about currency and how it is controlled by gov't and corporations.  Since Satoshi embedded that headline in the genesis block I have to post this here.

If you have the BTC, post a bounty!

Good idea.  I may post a bounty once I figure out what I need.  If I go with the GAE method then it will need to run on GAE.  Again I just need to read out of the blockchain.  Also, some the bitcond commands also need to work so you can query the blockchain from GAE, for instance, getting the balance of a bitcoin address.

Seems like if bitcoin can run on GAE it can scale indefinitely.

In that case I guess you could use BitCoinJ to connect to the network every 10 minutes or so and download new blocks. Create an implementation of the BlockStore interface that uses the appengine datastore and you'd be "done" I guess, though nobody has tried it yet.

Thanks Mike.  I'll be looking into this although I don't know if I have the time (or maybe even the talent).
