5941  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: SegWit, NOMP (2nd try) on: November 23, 2019, 05:56:14 PM

you could also patch NoMP to support segwit-- there are guides online to doing so
...
Jackg's advice to test with testnet is good advice too.

Thanks.  I found a NOMP fork that had implemented SegWit and added the code to my local NOMP version.  I'll run on Testnet to see how it works.

You can also hand a block back to bitcoind and ask if-- ignoring the POW-- it would accept it as valid. See the "proposal" option to getblocktemplate.

This sounds interesting.  Can you tell me more about this option?

YIIMP is a popular option.
There are even some auto installers out there.
This one has a small thead here and a really active discord channel

https://github.com/cryptopool-builders/Multi-Pool-Installer#-support

CKPOOL Not as simple as above in terms of setup but it does work well.:

PCW,

Is there any reason you are using NOMP?
I use it now and then to do some things on other crapcoins to play around but for something that has real money value, there are better ways to mine. Some of which even if they are no longer supported NOW, were at least supported in the last year or so.

Yeah, NOMP is a quick and simple setup, it just seems you are going to have more issues then it is worth.

5943  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer Fan Replacement Question on: November 22, 2019, 09:07:09 PM
The key point to remember with s9's is that the fans have to work against a fairly high airflow resistance cause by BM's insane mass of small heat sinks. That means they have to produce high static-pressure which is why they run high rpm. That in turn = loud.

Unless the miner is UC/UV'd there is no getting around this.
100% true....with a but...
I have many S9 units that are not 100% great.
They are really worth zip at the moment. Nobody wants old, flakey miners. By the time I ship them everyone looses money (except FedEx Ground)

However, I can put in fans that are quiet and use them as small heaters in the warehouse over the winter.
It is never going to get above 40F in there so I can run them with lower speed / lower noise fans and the miners are probably never going to care.

If they do go get to hot they shutdown. If they loop between being too hot and then 40F and this causes the hash boards to finally fail, no big loss the beagleboard is probably the only thing that is worth money.

Sad that it has come to this, but it is what it is.

5944  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer Fan Replacement Question on: November 22, 2019, 07:35:38 PM
Enermax D.F. Storm are quiet but run too hot with stock S9.

Noctua industrialPPC are even more quiet, but run even hotter with a stock S9.

Ofc this story is different if you have a well underclocked S9 or other miner.

I have my low power fw Avalon841 running with one Noctua industrialPPC 3000rpm model

That was the kind of list I was looking for.
Going to have to spend some money at Amazon to play around.
I just didn't want to go for ones that are a known no-go due to heat.

Thanks,
Dave
5945  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer Fan Replacement Question on: November 22, 2019, 12:52:39 PM
Delta QFR1212GHE is a good replacement fan and quite widely available.

That part I have. But someone had the "complete list" kind of thing.

What did work, what did not, what was quiet but ran to hot, etc.
I thought it was here, I am wondering if I saw it on reddit or someplace else.

Thanks,
Dave
5946  Bitcoin / Mining support / Antminer Fan Replacement Question on: November 22, 2019, 01:47:19 AM
A while ago somebody posted a list of replacement fans for S9 units with links to Amazon / Newegg and a few other places.
It listed which ones were quieter / more powerful / etc.

I went back through posts here till 2017 and could not find it. Does anyone still have the list or a link to it.

Thanks,
Dave
5947  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: VanitySearch (Yet another address prefix finder) on: November 21, 2019, 06:59:34 PM
Thank you JeanLuc - VanitySearch is awesome!  I don't know what took me so long to find this thread...

DaveF are you still compiling GPU stats?

Yes I added yours to the list.
I have to go back through the thread and add a few others. Since nobody pinged out to me and Jean_Luc has been offline since August I have been slacking on doing it.
Will take care of the rest later or tomorrow.

Also, since most of the benchmarks are compressed that has been the only ones I have added to keep the datapoints even.

5948  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Preparing for a recession... Gold or Bitcoin? on: November 21, 2019, 05:04:17 PM
Not just gold but all precious metals (platinum, rhodium, silver, etc.) are good to hold.
You may or many not make money, but unless something happens and you buy at the top of the market you will probably not loose much so long as you can hold for a while.

That is the big thing with metals, they go up, they go down and then they go back up again. Might take a while but unless there is a radical change it's a cycle. And it's been a cycle longer then any of us have been alive. (unless there is someone here who was born before 1825)

So only 1 person wanted to gamble.

Boards are working, I will re-test before I ship.
Ribbon cable included.
PM or reply here.

Maybe you can expand your list by still adding new websites that accept Bitcoin alphabetically since you will be missing a lot of them if just you just listed 26 websites. I'll add another suggestion which  is D for domain hosting and they are several of them that accepts Bitcoin HawkHost, Hostinger, and Namecheap to name a few. You should really update your list since I don't think you have a good example for "O" since you just repeated the name of Overstock which is in the category of an e-commerce business.

It was something I put together on a short train ride. It's obviously not complete or even near complete or even 100% useful.
Lets face it if you are not in Australia the underwear link is essentially useless.
The point was that there is something from A to Z.
For more places (and probably more up to date) you have:

https://www.spending-bitcoin.com who posted above you has a very good website listing what you can get.
Coinmap is also a very nice place to check out: https://coinmap.org/view/#/world/44.90257800/24.43359375/5
BitPay has their list: https://bitpay.com/directory/

There are many more lists out there too.
But, I did accomplish part of what I wanted to.
We are talking about places to use bitcoin.

That's an awesome effort, dude, and a cool way of presenting a list of places where you can spend your bitcoin--I'm not into spending it myself, but if I'm not mistaken I think you are and I respect that.

I know Apmex sells metals for bitcoin, but an even better choice for the "G" would be Veldt Gold, which is a business that really supports cryptocurrency, and I don't think they even use a payment processor that converts crypto into fiat.  Plus they actually buy metals for crypto, too.  The only bad thing about them is that their prices aren't that competitive last I checked, which was some months ago.  But I do admire their apparent love of crypto, whereas Apmex probably couldn't care less about it except as an option for people to pay for their metals.

As an aside, I'm wondering what kind of device you're using on a train that would allow you to make such a detailed list like this.  Do trains have wi-fi these days?  I haven't ridden on one in years, and the last one was the Metro North into NYC and that was in the pre-smartphone days.

I hold a bunch, but I do try to spend at least $50 a week just to prove that yes you can get anything you need using BTC

I have never used Veldt, have used Ampex so that is why I used that link. There are a few of those in the list, other possibly better places but I have not used them, it's the go with what you know theory. [I have used Proton VPN so they got the link for V, etc.]

The LIRR would not know what Wi-Fi is if I hit them with a Linksys router. It's a laptop connected to a 4G hotspot in my bag. Up until you go underground approaching NYC it's fine, once in the tunnel it's a paperweight

Interesting idea.

How does this differ from the new / unread topics being highlighted each time I come here?

It does not differ that much, but for those of us who don't come here every day you can loose stuff:

I posted this back in April:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5137506

And then this happened last month where someone else missed out so I bumped the thread to discuss:

The effort to add the witness commitment is pretty trivial.

Aside from that part of your statement you are correct.
It's (fairly) easy to get NOMP working.
I did it in less then half an hour over the weekend to get something fixed:
https://www.reddit.com/r/defcoin/comments/dxr3xe/network_outage/

1) A few lines in the conf file for a coin
2) Copy / paste a few apt-get install lines that are listed everywhere.
3) 2 Quick edits of 2 pool configuration files.
4) Beer

I have no idea if the above would work / does work / can be made to work with SegWit.
There are other pools that do, most do take more effort then the 30 minute NOMP setup.

Am I going to find out?: No
Could I find out?: Yes
Why?: Not going to run any real pool and I just don't have the time.
With a quick search (~10 minutes while having my AM coffee) could I find the answer: No, I did not.

5957  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Do we need / does anybody want a single moderated announcement thread? on: November 20, 2019, 12:58:03 PM

So glad somebody took up doing this.
The only thing I would change is to make the maker / item / thread into 1 long row. Kind of like I have it shown above.
It's just a bit more compact so you can get more on the screen without scrolling.

My opinion, nothing more. You are doing it so anything you want is great.

Also, let people know if you want them to notify you by PM or posting in the thread.

-Dave
5958  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Do we need / does anybody want a single moderated announcement thread? on: November 19, 2019, 08:41:43 PM
So we have a bunch of people who want it.
Now all we need is someone to do it.

Dave looks left, Dave looks right, anyone want to do it?

If nobody wants to I can start it and if someone wants it they can take it over.

5959  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Any help reaching out to LEALANA Maker to identify the BTC address on Coins on: November 19, 2019, 08:07:39 PM
Hi All,

Over the last few months I have collected quite a lot of unfunded Lealana BTC coins of different denomination. From what I have understood so far, there hasn't been any list released by them where people can lookup their BTC first bits to identify the full address for the coin. I think they have already done that for the LTC coins.

Anyone here knows who we can reach out to or is still in contact with someone from Lealana who can provide this information.

Appreciate of any kinda help from anyone..

Smoothie made them. Still around on the forum (last login as of a few weeks ago)

The one and only bump this thread is getting for a while.
I figured this would be one of those things that either sold quickly or not at all.
Looks like it's in the not at all pile.

If you are interested make me an offer I think the $300 is fair, you might think otherwise.
