6701  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: VanitySearch (Yet another address prefix finder) on: May 01, 2019, 06:55:58 PM
Wildcard search is between 4 and 5 times slower than classic search for known prefixes. I reach ~40MK/s with my 1050 Ti and ~4MK/s with my i7-4770.
It is due to the fact that I have to compute full address each time and it requires 2 SHA for the checksum and a base58 encoding. For the CPU release, I implemented SSE checksum and I will try to implement SSE Base58 encoding using Barret's reduction (for computing div and mod 58).
Thank you very very much! I am really looking forward to a new commit.

Has anyone put together (or started to put together) a list of CPUs / Video Cards & the speed you can get out of them.
Anything else?

2019-05-01T00:48:02Z Error reading from database: Fatal LevelDB error: Corruption: not an sstable (bad magic number)

Since it runs for hours then it fails at reading the DB, an idea that came into my mind is that maybe your HDD got into trouble - from a cross link to a bad sector.
I would also check thoroughly the HDD. I mean some *nix equivalent for chkdsk /r

*nix command is fcsk
It might not run till the next reboot for repair.

i'll give reindex a try.
Reading here that could take up days/weeks.

Was the transaction index switched on (txindex=1) where you took the blockchain backup from ?
IIRC it should not matter, the error he gave in the 1st post points to the main DB index.
It's been a while since I saw it.

If you had a power failure, you could have created a transient and knocked out a component. Do you get any failures when you run anything else?
It's an RPi, they *tend*to be tough. (The SD card is another matter)

Did you try a reindex?
On a RPi it's going to take a while, but that should fix it.

When will the deposit be opened on the exchange yobit?

Probably never, but did you ask yobit? https://yobit.net/en/support/create
If enough people ask there is a small possibility that they might actually do something.
It's been offline for at least 5 months so I doubt it's coming back.

6706  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: April 30, 2019, 01:29:42 PM
Has anyone had any difficulty connecting tonight? I opened lisk hub and signed in and it just sits there doing nothing.
Tried the create new account and same.
Reboot PC and try again, same.

I figure it's either my internet connection / DNS issue or it's elsewhere and everyone is having issues.

Thanks,
Dave

The system is working for me without an issue. Hopefully you'll get online soon!

Still not stable for me @ home.
Dragged the PC to the office and it's fine.
So since everything else at home is fine and it's the same DNS servers. (8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1) it's something with my Verizon connection at home. Sad
I'll worry about it if the price goes up and I want to move some.

6707  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Do we need / does anybody want a single moderated announcement thread? on: April 29, 2019, 08:50:44 PM
I could see this as being pretty helpful. Below is my "master list" I keep updated with all collectible websites (Live & No Longer In Use).  I could add a "Current Btalk [ANN] Sales" section at the top perhaps ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5124662.msg50317188#msg50317188
What you have put together is amazing, I don't even want to think of how much time you have put into that list.

In my mind I was thinking of something a lot smaller.
Just 1 thread (pinned I hope) that just has this.

Coin                         Maker         Thread
BYOB The M.O.A.B      Hhampuz       https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5102720.0
.1 BTC Copper Wallet   frankbitcoin   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5135673.0
etc.

Perhaps also the release date or announce date. But this way you could look at 1 thread and know (somewhat) what has come out since the last time you looked.
No mintage / no other detail. Just look this was announced, click here to find out more. Some people might care about Nastyfans coins others might care more about CryptoImperator. Others care about all of them but like me might not have time to look. Or might be off the forum for a few days or a week and then have to slog through 2 or 3 pages. Between people selling their stuff, people discussing stuff it's easy to miss the announce threads.

-Dave

6708  Economy / Collectibles / Do we need / does anybody want a single moderated announcement thread? on: April 29, 2019, 08:08:33 PM
Title kind of says it all. Sometimes we can spend a ton of time here on the forum. Other times we can't. Because of this you can no see postings about or sales threads of new coins.
Due to life getting in the way I missed the M.O.A.B. thread and it's sale. I am reasonably sure others have had the same issue with other coins / collectibles.

So do you think a sticky thread at the top moderated by somebody (or more then 1 person) that just has a running list of new coins / collectibles and a link to the thread.
This way you can check in 1 spot and be done.

Good idea? Bad idea?

Has anyone put together (or started to put together) a list of CPUs / Video Cards & the speed you can get out of them.
I know it's a newer project and Jean_Luc is working VERY VERY hard on it so getting accurate numbers is going to be a moving target. But for now all we can do is look through the thread and see who is running what to get a general idea.
So far I have pulled from this thread:

6712  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Input needed on Crypto Collectable notes, coins, wallets with an NFC chip on: April 27, 2019, 08:21:09 PM
First thing : The possibility is limited since NFC stands for Near Field Communication, which doesn't allow for use on a wide area. So a massive sweep attack wouldn't work.
Unless the private keys are recorded or generated upon a set of data (seed) belonging to the maker, no massive sweep is possible. (and unless the 5G and 6G networks don't use the same frequencies as the ones used in NFC)

True, but then you do have to worry about who is nearby.
https://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/definition/evil-maid-attack

Goes back to the discussion earlier in the week we were having about physical coins. BTC rises above $20k USD.
Can you trust people who have access to your home / office not to make their own security holograms so they can peel and replace the 2 Lealana coins you have on display?

Second : Unless each and every part of what makes the chip (electronic circuitry, micro-controller code, components wiring, etc ...) are open-source, published, and reviewed by peers, why not.
I'd be very weary with any proprietary wallet solution anyway.

Unless you are digging it apart and looking at the device under a microscope, all you know is the data it gives. With all hardware devices you are trusting the manufacturer that what they say they put in they really put in. You dont't know if they put in chip "X" instead of chip "Y" but "X" was programmed to say it was "Y"

Third thing : What is stored on the chip ? Is it the private key in plain text ? If not, then there should be a mechanism to sign transactions with privkey and only transfer the transaction raw hex code to whatever appliance that is communicating with the chip.
And if it is the private key in plain text, it is very vulnerable to exploit. You just need a NFC reader to extract the privkey. (most smartphones are capable of it)

I would put on an encrypted private key with a secure password.
Just about anything else you are looking to loose BTC

6713  Economy / Exchanges / Re: New York Rejects Bittrex Exchange’s BitLicense Application on: April 27, 2019, 01:57:51 PM
Let me start with I LIVE in NY and hate the fact that there are so many hoops to jump through for things. I hate the fact that I can’t get certain crypto services because I live here.

I love the fact that when I had a problem with a certain crypto business that has a bitlicense I made *1* phone call on a Monday morning and had the problem fixed before the weekend. This was after close to two months of emails to their “support” people and their “executives” getting involved.

So yeah it sucks, yeah I hate KYC / AML. Yeah I would like other exchanges to be here. Etc.

But in the end it’s also a bit useful.

Same also for regular banks, they fear the NYSDFS more than just about any other organization.
Here is a youtube link that just about the explains the conversation that a DFS person had with a bank that tried to not make good on a deposit bonus for someone who used to work for me.

[NSFW]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aed5_85SMb4

Yes, that is close to what they did over a “deposit $2500 and get a $100 bonus after 90 days and 15 bill payments” promo that they did not want to make good on.

The carrot is you get to do business in New York, a state that has a lot of people and a lot of businesses with a lot of money. The stick is really a club with spikes swung by Conan the Barbarian.

So, if they rejected Bittrex, they probably had a reason.

Will probably work about about the same price or a bit more if you use USPS, but if you have a FedEx / UPS account it might save you a few bucks.

What do you think about using wildcard and using pattern like 1*Bit*Coin* ?

Would like that very much!

Also, is it possible to encrypt the -o text file that you save the keys to?
I am running this on a offline PC that in theory nobody has access to. But, since it's alone churning for days on end other people in the office can walk up to it.

It would be another switch that encrypts the file, and clears the screen so nobody can see the command you ran.

Paranoid, I know.

And I came into the office this morning and it was on that screen again.
Seems to be random. But I really don't know if it went off @ 7:01 PM last night as I walked out or 8:45 AM this morning just before I walked in

-Dave

If you have a chance please flash the firmware.bin file located at: https://github.com/AIFanatic/PaperLedger/files/3121298/firmware.zip

The update can be performed through the web portal->settings->update firmware

This build includes the ticker updated time which should provide some more information on what could be happening. (thanks BitcoinMitchell for putting the effort into the project)

Also, if possible, can you let me know the wifi signal strength of the device? (setup->status->network signal) I suspect it may be getting stuck while fetching the tickers.

Updated the firmware.

Signal -40dBm
Will keep you posted about the going to the attempting to connect screen.
And it turns out it looks like I have a dead line of pixels on top or is this just the way it's being displayed?

6720  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: PPS pools what is proper reserve number for a pps pool? on: April 25, 2019, 05:16:21 PM
Taking this to the limit.

6 blocks an hour  * 24 hours in a day  * 12.5 coins per block = 1800 BTC generated per day.

1800 * 5500 (USD value of BTC at the moment) = 9,900,000 USD Lets round that up to 10,000,000.

Let’s give everyone a 10% bonus so 11 Million USD a day in our PPS pool in outgoing BTC.

Let’s do this for the 3rd quarter so 90 days. That is $990 million USD. Just shy of 1 Billion USD out of pocket if this killer pool mines 0 blocks and has to buy all the BTC that they are giving out.

Since it’s a PPS pool that they control, they can point the hash to ANY SHA coin. Kiss every SHA256 coin that is not BTC goodbye. Then they point it back to BTC for 2 or 3 difficulty increases. And then in the end they point the hash rate nowhere. And the block chain comes to a crashing halt. Are you seriously going to mine at CKpool or Slush or P2Pool when it’s going to take forever to find a block because difficulty spiked because with an extra 10% marginal hardware gets turned back on? And just about everyone else is mining here? Or are you going to mine here with the rest and get your extra 10% all day every day?

And then they shut off and go away. How long will it take us to recover?

Who would do this? I don’t know. Do you think if I went to Chase / Bank Of America / HSBC / CitiBank / Western Union / Wells Fargo and said “Hey, each of you cough up $175 million and I’ll set Bitcoin / crypto back 5+ years.” They would ask how or just write me a check? It's also petty cash for just about any government. Even after the divorce settlement Bezos probably still has it in cash in his safe at home.
