5981  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 10, 2017, 01:30:05 AM
I have stopped reporting anything, it's pointless, the forum rules are no being enforced at all.

I have reported some users dozens of times for posting worthless oneliners or using russia/thai/whatever language and all that happens is that their post get deleted and they just continue to break the rules as if nothing has happened and this has been going on for years.

Majority of the forum is being treated basically as off-topic board where everything goes and majority of the longtime community has obviously stopped caring.

You should probably take a look at the modlog if you think that nothing is being done: https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php

As you can see, recently there's been more than 50 bans in succession. Certain posts aren't a ban offense straight off the bat and deleted posts are a sort of warning. If they continue they'll get banned even if it takes a few reports. Without your reports and others then the alt coin section is just going to get even more overrun that it already is.
5982  Economy / Reputation / Re: MORE ICO SPAMMERS on: December 10, 2017, 01:25:59 AM
Unfortunately, I believe a lot of services are either offering a reward for this sort of thing from it's users, or they are creating the accounts themselves and posting. There's tonnes of accounts, mostly newbies & jr members posting almost identical posts in quick succession. I've been reporting them as much as I can but, even then there's another five that are popping up.

Atriz also recently identified a few services which are using this sort scheme to bump their thread and get positive reviews.
5983  Other / Meta / Re: User keeps on deleting an update and posts another one (in less than 24 hrs) on: December 09, 2017, 08:57:41 PM
I've actually reported this in the last few days of a different user. Included the link to archive of the previous bump. Nothing was done though, so I assume mods can't see deleted posts and don't accept archive as valid proof? He's still doing it to this day. In fact a lot of them over the marketplace with locked threads specifically are doing it.
5984  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin is insanely slow? on: December 08, 2017, 10:58:42 PM
It's been OK for me today. What times, and where are you?

When reporting posts I've been getting quite a few cloudflare status pages where it shows whether you are connected to the internet, whether cloudflare is up and if Bitcointalk.org is up. Every single time it's said that the website has gone down. I've been getting some error codes which state I'm either sending requests to quickly, or the website is temporarily down. This was roughly around 5-6pm GMT, located in the UK.

Although, general browsing has been generally okay.

Update: Actually very responsive right now.
Update 2: 23:19 a few blimps in performance and taking a while for things to catch up. A lot of posts were removed in the modlog which maybe could of contributed to it? Returned back to normal within a few minutes.

This is one of the error messages:
Quote
Too fast / overloaded (503)

Most likely, you are accessing the forum too quickly. You are only allowed to access at a rate of one pageload per second on average (somewhat higher bursts).

It is also possible that the server is overloaded or temporarily down.

5985  Other / Meta / Re: my 2011 bitcointalk Hero account hacked on: December 08, 2017, 06:34:27 AM
They are the only ones which are able to help you, and  you just need to remain patient as there's a current backlog on recovering accounts as it's not the highest priority. Send a reminder every week or two without spamming them. As long as you've provided them with sufficient evidence and it's formatted quickly, they will eventually get around to you.
5986  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 06, 2017, 06:53:19 PM
Maybe the solution is to offer a paid membership *cough*Copper*cough* for them to skip any rank building and be eligible for more sig campaigns as a newbie, so they can get paid, probably by scam ICO operators, for their one-liners as soon as they create an account?  /sarcasm /copper-bashing

Maybe Copper is just a clever way to entice them into a specific account type so mods can focus efforts on looking through copper members instead of all newbies.

Newbie jail would be great.

A little off-topic but can someone explain to me why Copper membership lifts signature styling restrictions?
I'm actually against a newbie jail because that didn't prevent any spamming/shit posting when it was in place before and to be honest a lot of the shit posting isn't even coming from the newbie members. (at least in the main Bitcoin sections)

Copper membership was introduced, because I believe theymos doesn't actually like putting restrictions on people because it hinders the actual legit members of the forum who want to participate and contribute to the forum. He's proven this by lifting the newbie jail in the past, allowing members to register through Tor if they pay a small fee and the recent copper membership introduction.

He explains himself here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2385104
5987  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 06, 2017, 06:32:05 PM
I've been reporting posts in the wrong section as well as multiple redundant threads (activity, rank up, can't post pics) and some are removed and some are not. I dropped on the reported % so I see no reason to bother anymore.

Don't worry about the percentage, I imagine you have a decent percentage anyway. I report anything I think doesn't belong. I've even reported a staff members post a long time ago because I didn't feel it fitted in where it was posted. In the last hour I've reported at least 20 posts after coming home and not all them will likely be dealt with or I may have been incorrect on a few of them. But as long as I'm correct and have helped then it's worth it.

I know it's nice to have some feedback via your percentage and you like to keep it high. But, giving up completely isn't going to help the issue we are currently facing. I couldn't care about my percentage as long as you can clean up the board by getting a few of them correct it's worth it in my opinion.

A combined effort of everyone doing this will surely help and the moderators will appreciate it. I feel too many people are getting disheartened and giving up because of the percentage loss. I don't really look at a lot of the sections which are getting bombarded by posts. Mostly the altcoin section, I've recently taken it off ignore and it's quite frankly a mess and a haven for spammers/shit posters.

Another thing I have noticed is that there's a lot of threads which are in the marketplace section and sub forums which are being bump abused. The OP deletes his previous bump and then posts another one multiple times within 24 hours. I've been reporting them too but I'm not sure if the moderators even have access to deleted posts as I believe I remember theymos saying they are a hassle to recover/check.
5988  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 06, 2017, 06:15:22 PM
It's actually becoming unreal at this point, every day that I log on I can look at certain sections and report around 20 posts in the first 5 pages for all sorts of reasons. The majority of the reports are for the wrong section. The people who are shit posting don't even take  the time to put their shit in a on topic section and just post it anywhere. They then either farm up their posts in their thread or abandon it forever.

I've been looking into the accounts which have been making these posts recently and a lot of them seem to be compromised. A lot of them had a huge posting gap and suddenly changed languages. I'm currently compiling a list of accounts that I think have been compromised with references which I'll post over in the reputation section in the next few days hopefully and continue adding to it.

I do feel for the moderators  though, as right now it seems they are struggling to cope with the new workload that has resulted in the value of Bitcoin rising, as well as signature campaign spamming and dealing with compromised accounts. I guess I'll continuing what I've been doing for a while and report every post that breaches one of the guidelines.

As well as raise my concerns about some accounts which I suspect have been compromised. (Which I'll likely contact theymos first and see if he replies) It's not like the staff isn't doing anything as they clearly are and my reports are being dealt with a few hours later depending on the rank of the member and there is a lot of activity in the modlog I just think they may be struggling, or not enough people are reporting the posts.

5989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are Forks really good for BTC ? on: December 05, 2017, 11:56:32 AM
In my opinion no, i think the developer of new forked bitcoin just want to make profit, some of them have like a ton of pre minned coin and want to dump it as soon as possible. Cheaper fee faster transaction just a fake reason too.
And now almost every body that have little knowledge about blockchain tech can make their own version of bitcoin
At the moment the hard forks haven't had anything to improve of the existing foundation that Bitcoin has layed out, so I would agree that as of now there hasn't been any worthy forks. But, this can change and I'm all for improving on Bitcoin. Bitcoin has certain limitations which will need to be fixed, whether that's through soft forks or hard forks remains to be seen.

Both affect Bitcoin directly and indirectly. Hard forks tend to create a false hype around Bitcoin because of the 'free' coins that people are promised.
5990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: transaction stuck, low fee on: December 04, 2017, 11:25:13 PM
i used blockchain.info - i dont think there is a way to increase the fee there is it?
thanks

No there isn't, blockchain.info doesn't support this feature like some other wallets do. You'll either have to wait it out or contact a pool/person to accelerate the block. There are some free services out there which may be able to help you out.

It's likely not your fault directly that the fee was low, due to blockchain.info not been very good with calculating the correct fee for the transaction.
5991  Other / Meta / Re: Recaptcha problem during login with Tor on: December 04, 2017, 03:50:08 PM
This is a common issue, because of other people using the same exit node to solve captchas. You can request a new Tor circuit for this site at the top left, or by the shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + L. It might take a few tries to get a working node, but you should eventually get there.
5992  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Backup & Restore from Core? on: December 03, 2017, 11:21:30 PM
You can go about this two ways; First you could simply copy the wallet.dat and put in in a safe place which you can later on transfer to your new hard drive, for example you USB. Secondly, you could note down on a piece of paper, or what ever and put them in a safe place. When it comes to restoring your wallet, you could create a new and import the private keys.

I would recommend just making a copy of the wallet.dat for the transfer, but still note down your private keys and keep them in a safe etc just in case one day you do forget your password for the client.
5993  Other / Meta / Re: Chances of getting hacked account back when I didn't stake my address? on: December 02, 2017, 06:35:36 PM
If you can't provide a signature from a staked address, either publicly or via a personal message then you have a very little chance of getting the account back. I imagine some evidence could be accepted if it's from a renowned account such as a person who owns a popular exchange etc because that might be a little easier to verify than a random website, or email.

You can contact cyrus if your evidence and see if it gets accepted, but in all likely hood it will be ignored due to there being no 'accepted' proof.
5994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-qt: wallet.dat corrupt, salvage failed on: December 01, 2017, 12:01:11 PM
Make sure that you have a backup of the corrupted wallet before doing this even though it's corrupted back ups are handy to keep around to try other ways of recovering the data. You could create a small partition on a flash drive, and copy the corrupted wallet.dat to that partition. Before following this guide you can also try and find the mkey and ckey with a hex editor to see if there are any addresses that are in the corrupted file.

Then run this via pywallet command:
Code:
 sudo ./pywallet.py --recover --recov_device <location of partition> --recov_size 1Gio --recov_outputdir <Your desired location>
If the command worked correctly, it will now ask you to enter your password, which if correct will then show a message along the lines of:
Code:
All the found encrypted private keys have been decrypted.
The wallet is encrypted and the passphrase is correct

If everything has been followed and has worked it should then start importing the keys, which you can then check to see if any of these change addresses contain any of your Bitcoin.

5995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Have several unconfirmed transactions going back over 3 weeks on: December 01, 2017, 10:55:30 AM
The current recommended fee per byte is around 60 at the time of writing this. Some of the transactions that they have sent to you have as low as 1 satoshi per byte. No wondering they are taking so long to confirm. If a exchange is knowingly doing this, then that's pretty bad for a service. Contact their support and see if this was a genuine mistake or if this is how they operate.

To me if this is normal for them to send such a low fee, then I would be looking elsewhere if you need the Bitcoin in a quick time frame. Of course these could of been one offs and there may be a glitch in their automated system which is processing withdrawals. In the mean time you could try out the free pool accelerators or contact some pools and after them a reward to accelerate the block.

As it seems like I've received some very nice fake feedback like this:

"Recruiting users to post without giving the full details where and what to post. This will likely to bump some thread. Beware of this user."

I'm just going to clarify, the people enrolled will have no obligation whatsoever to post in any type of threads, bumping it or whatsoever. Think of this as a sig campaign only available for 3 people and will most likely not be made public.

PS- Pretty ironic he left this feedback considering he admitted to pumping and bumping ann threads.
Unfortunately, your probably going to get targeted by that member and it's alts for a long time after this. As soon as they are caught they make it their personal goal to hunt down and harrass the people who are against them.
5997  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it safe to reuse a hacked exchange wallet account? on: November 30, 2017, 11:37:25 PM
Consider everything compromised once you have been compromised. Depending on the exchange and whether they allow it or not, the hacker could of noted down the private keys of the addresses, not many exchanges allow you to see the private keys, but some used too. Do not send to addresses that have been compromise and no longer use them for anything. The account once the password and email is changed should be enough to secure the account. However, you could just create another account and contact support and let them know you are doing that because of a recent compromise.
5998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Pywallet vs expensive recovery software on: November 30, 2017, 08:58:59 PM
At the end of the day, it all depends on several factors whether or not you will be able to recover anything. The data is either there, or it isn't.

It becomes increasingly more unlikely, if you have been using the hard drive since the files have been deleted, due to new data being overwritten. Recuva, is normally the program recommended due to it being free, and being successful in certain situations. It should be enough if there is any data there which is salvageable. If not you could contact someone who specializes in recovering data, and explain to them when you lost the data and whether you've used it since and they'll be able to tell you whether it's likely the data is recoverable.
5999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Pending (0 confirmations) on: November 30, 2017, 08:54:14 PM
The fee is very low in the transaction, which isn't going to get prioritizes like other transactions with biggers fees. It will eventually confirm given time, but in the mean time you can try and get in accelerated by people over at the service section, or by trying some of the pools which offer the service. When sending in the future, assure that the fee is correct before sending any coins. You won't lose any of your coins this way, but it will take a lot longer to process the transaction.

If you are ever in doubt about what sort of transacton fee is recommend, check out: https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx This provides a  real time update on the current recommended fee.
6000  Other / Meta / Re: Search is temporarily disabled?! on: November 30, 2017, 08:45:52 PM
It's already been discussed, and it's related to the recent DDOS attacks on the server. It's been disabled for 12-24 hours whilst the transfer to cloudflare is taking place. Take a look around this section, before you ask a question that's already been asked.

Quote from admin from the other thread:
It helped against the DDoS somewhat. I'll bring it back up in 12-24 hours once the transition to Cloudflare is complete.
