5081  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos should remove self moderate option from service announcement ( Altcoins) on: July 04, 2018, 05:37:34 PM
Can I know why it's not possible ?  As a part of member of this forum we can't suggest ? This matter should not underestimate.
Like I've said previously. Self moderating a thread in that section may have it's benefits such as removing spam themselves instead of waiting in the queue for a moderator to deal with it. Yeah, users do misuse it, but that doesn't take away from the fact that there's legitimate reasons to use it. You can suggest anything you want, but that doesn't mean the moderators are going to respond. Plus, it's really only theymos who decides what is and isn't implemented.

Just because it's not enabled in certain other sections doesn't mean that the Service Announcements should follow suit. Personally, if I were a thread owner in the Service Announcement section I would want to self moderate to prevent all the spam comments that these type of threads are subject too.
5082  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 04, 2018, 05:31:48 PM
England have the easiest route into the final by far now. Sweden in the next round then the winner of Russia and Croatia, and I think this is partly why I just can't get excited by them. They've a very average side and have only played other poor to average teams and a Belgium b-team who they couldn't even beat. I think we'll struggle with whoever we get in the next round or two, but in the final it'll be one of Brazil, Belgium, Uruguay or France which I don't think would be pretty if we get that far. The games between those four teams will be very interesting and I couldn't really predict who will go through at this point so the tournament is still up in the air for me along with the predictor. If someone can get a surprising score right with a joker it could easily take you into the top five.
England have enough quality players to be performing better than they are, but I guess that says a lot about where they are right now. They aren't playing the most dazzling football right now, but they are still winning in the end. I thought England deserved to win against Columbia even if they didn't perform the best.
5083  Other / Meta / Re: Should ANN and services threads be excluded from the merit system ? on: July 03, 2018, 09:34:56 PM
And in some altcoin ANN threads there are still "real" discussions taking place, so somethings there are posts (for example, tutorials) that deserve a Merit.
I think this the what the majority of people miss. I've said this a few times, but there are some worthy posts within the announcement threads, and actual meaningful discussion. Unfortunately, it's these threads which get drowned out by the rest of the garbage posted there, because they aren't the ones promising free coins, and using bumping services.
5084  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's English Premier League Football Pool |£25 to join Pot @ £425 on: July 03, 2018, 09:30:16 PM
Why not tell the other Chipmixer guys to join up?  Grin  I'm pretty sure 50 GBP is nothing for you guys.  Lol.

Anyway, it's nice to see more and more people gambling a bit and having some fun.  Smiley
I heard they prefer to spend their money on private jets, and parties in hot tubs. I guess if there were higher stakes at hand they would come flooding in! Cheesy

This is why I have a love/hate relationship with bitcoin.  I will always support bitcoin obviously but it can be quite annoying when you get paid in bitcoin and the price plummets %50.  Of course the opposite can happen as well and it can rise %50.  The price we pay for being early adopters I guess Smiley
The current price of Bitcoin has no bearing on me whatsoever. In fact, I've gone several months without checking the price a few times before. I normally got my updates from the forum when users were panicking. I care about the value of Bitcoin rather than it's current price.
5085  Other / Meta / Re: account status on: July 03, 2018, 09:23:47 PM
we have to go through the process by doing a lot of post and activity
Not really, you have to go through activity periods yes. But, that only requires one post per period to get the "potential" activity. What you do need to be doing though is making good quality posts. Otherwise, you have no chance of ever ranking up. It's quality>quantity.
5086  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 03, 2018, 09:20:14 PM
I felt that the VAR could of been used a few times in the England vs Columbia game. Especially, the "head butt" incident.

Football's coming home lol.
Well, I seem to have some super power of some sorts right now, because whoever I predict to win ends up losing. So, I'm taking bribes to predict Sweden to win Wink
5087  Other / Meta / Re: Simple answer to getting rid of all the trash threads here on: July 03, 2018, 09:17:59 PM
The simple thing that can be done is, fight fire with water, hand to hand, If there are numerous spammer, then we need numerous of reporters too. It is like a social work, but i think it will work if a lot of people doing it.
I would be curious to how many users are reporting weekly, and how many messages are being reported on a weekly basis. An educated guess would be that there just isn't enough users reporting. However, without the in depth statistics that theymos likely has access too it might well not be the case, and there's simply just too much spam currently, and restrictions would be the better option.
5088  Other / Meta / Re: Please get the TwitBook threads off the newbie board. on: July 03, 2018, 09:08:09 PM
The whole board should be trashed. A lot of the topics have nothing related to cryptos. The beginner's board is the paradise for shitposters.
This would not change anything, and certainly not for the better. The users that post in the beginners, and help section would likely just move onto the next section to spam if it were just removed. Resulting in more spam concentrated in other sections. Removing the section provides no solution to the problem.

The beginners, and help section I believe still justifies it's place in the forum. Just because we aren't newbies anymore, and might be a little more informed about Bitcoin doesn't mean others are.
5089  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaign which pays for merits? on: July 03, 2018, 09:05:20 PM
The bounty managers are paid anyway. Their payment doesn't depend on the quality of the posts of the participants.
If they are lazy enough, they won't care about the post quality...
If those who advertise with the signature campaign would differentiate the payment of the manager based on the post quality, that would be a motivation for the bounty manager to care about quality too.
But, unfortunately those who advertise with the bounty managers, also don't care about quality, just quantity....
Wouldn't this require the advertiser to check post quality too, though? Kind of defeating the point of having a campaign manager "manage" the campaign. Well, I guess they still send out payments, but I'm sure if the advertiser is willing to check every single post then they would be willing to send out the payments too, and save themselves some money in hiring a campaign manager.
5090  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's English Premier League Football Pool |£25 to join Pot @ £425 on: July 03, 2018, 05:54:52 AM
Great project! Joined.

I'll join the lower end of the bracket. So either £25 or £50 if you decide to do the latter. Hopefully, over the entire season I do better than I did in the World cup...
5091  Other / Meta / Re: Should ANN and services threads be excluded from the merit system ? on: July 03, 2018, 05:42:24 AM
Generally, I don't really endorse sending merits to announcement threads, however users can do what ever they like with the sMerit they have earned. Eventually, most of them will run out of sMerit, and this will be happening on a minuscule level. I doubt any merit source will give their merits to the average Joe announcement thread.
Shit posting in the ANN threads is not made by the OP right? Then it does not have anything to do with the ANN of the projects, unless the project stated that they will pay money if someone do the post on the ANN thread. With or without merit system, people will always spam in ANN thread, that is the problem.
Not entirely true some announcement threads bump their threads with alternate accounts when they aren't using a bumping service. A while back I found some particularly high ranked members engaging in a conversation with themselves in order to bump the thread. OP was also involved. It's not always so obvious to determine if OP is involved, but they certainly do use different methods to bump their threads.
5092  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: July 03, 2018, 05:37:03 AM
Should i post it on a thread or should I just let those 5 accounts join a single Bounty - Signature Campaign?
Don't report it as this sort of stuff is not moderated on the forum. However, you can open a thread in the Reputation section. I'm sure a few users will appreciate that you've found a few users cheating campaigns.

I have a question. What's with all these posts quoting the OP and nothing more? Is that a way of bumping? Or is it just spamming?
One can only assume that this is them just bumping with alternate accounts to avoid the 24 hour bumping rule. I report them, and they always get removed.
5093  Other / Meta / Re: A question about some email spammers on: July 02, 2018, 10:42:00 PM
Nah, nothing can be done. Unless, they are sending their advertisement spam via personal messages the forum will not get involved in external issues. It would be better to bring this up via a thread in the reputation section outlining those that are doing this.
5094  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaign which pays for merits? on: July 02, 2018, 10:40:25 PM
To be honest, merit shouldn't be a requirement for anything other than ranking up. There are good posters that haven't received a reasonable amount of merits or merits at all, and they exist, but just aren't visible to the active merit givers.

And a wise man once said, "Judge a person by his post quality and not by his merits".

I don't know who that guy is tho.
It kind of makes sense from an advertiser point of view though. Especially, if some sort of filter for only displaying posts that have been merited gets implemented. Advertisers want as much exposure as possible, and accepting someone who posts a lot of posts, but also posts good posts from time to time should[/]appeal to them. I've put that in italic just because I know that they only care about quantity rather than quality. But, we are seeing certain managers trying to fight against the quality>quality epidemic.
5095  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 02, 2018, 09:00:03 PM
I guess I can say I have no chance of entering in the top 5 judging the leaderboard right now. I think I will continue to put predictions for fun, lost to many points in the early games of the world cup.
Yeah, I missed a few predictions which have really hurt me. Generally, my predictions have been OK, but I've just got the score completely wrong as there's been some real strange high scoring games. I guess this is why I don't watch too much international football, and just watch the world cup. I should probably stick to premier league games Cheesy
5096  Other / Meta / Re: System error in double Merit submissions on: July 02, 2018, 08:55:54 PM
Yeah, this has been known for quite a while now. Refreshing the page causes you to "double spend" the sMerit which has since been fixed I believe. I haven't tried it myself so don't know the ins/outs. However, a few people claimed that double clicking the send button resulted in it sending it twice here
5097  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaign which pays for merits? on: July 02, 2018, 08:46:33 PM
It's better than no merits at all. However, my personal opinion would be that requiring users to earn a certain amount of merits per payment period would be better. Requiring a flat out requirement before accepting them means in the past they have made good quality posts, however that doesn't mean that they'll continue in this pattern once they have been accepted. A combination of the two would likely be the best approach. It doesn't need to be too strict due to the limited merit being distributed currently, but it's certainly something that should be considered. Perhaps not for every single payment period, but every other.
5098  Other / Meta / Re: Let's Ban Gambling Signatures/ Advertising on: July 02, 2018, 08:40:09 PM
Let's be honest, this is a niche forum, there are very few children on this website, and certainly even fewer are unaware of the risks of gambling. Yes, these people have a chance to lose a lot of money, but that's their choice. They also stand a chance at winning a significant amount of money if they gamble carefully at the most opportune moment.
Judging by the post quality recently I think the age demographic has significantly decreased. I'm not necessarily saying this is a bad thing, although certain users aren't exactly showing they are mature, and experienced.
5099  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: July 02, 2018, 08:37:44 PM
@Welsh like the thread, I have something to look forward to at 300 good reports. I want to see where I messed up the 5 I got wrong.
I'm pretty sure that it only shows the last 30 days. No unfortunately you won't be able to find out without contacting a moderator. Unless, you have reported them within the last 30 days of course.
In the rules quoting pyramids are discouraged but I don't know if its still enforced.
Should this be reported?
Yeah you can report excessive quote pyramids. I guess it's pretty subjective, though. Depends on what the moderator dealing with the report says. I'm not sure what constitutes "excessive" in this case, however I would normally only report these cases if the content isn't that great or if it's a pain to navigate the thread because of it.
5100  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: June 30, 2018, 11:41:53 PM
The reporting page is only a few lines long.
If you can summarize the essence of this guide into a few paragraphs, it can fit to the end of the reporting page too (and that's the perfect place for a good summary, because if someone is too lazy to search for reporting guidelines, he still can find it when opening the report page).
Or, first there could be a link to this guide topic (like: check the reporting guide here, and link it to this topic).
After the link, there could be the summary of this topic, if needed. Maybe the link would be enough, and in that case there will be no need to update the reporting page, the link always points to the updated guide.
I'm not very good at explaining things clearly, and concisely as you might of gathered from this thread, although I invite others to offer improvements over the existing explanations. Including a link would probably be beneficial, although it would be nice to have a drop down menu. A lot of things would need to be shortened, and edited to theymos' standard. It being a sticky page would likely be beneficial. Regardless, in the mean time I'll be bumping it after 24 hours as passed.
