5001  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 17, 2018, 11:47:45 PM
Well done to all the winners, now just 2 weeks and I think hilarious will start collecting EPL pool entry fee and the EPL pool lasts almost one year so it will be much more fun and with a lot more opportunities for anybody to win.

Plus, I personally prefer club football over internationals as I feel that they are just more enjoyable. Yeah, I must admit I usually like the World Cup, but know nothing about how the teams play, and only know of some of their players. Although, I watch the EPL fairly regularly, and hope that will help me this time around.
5002  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's English Premier League Football Pool |£25 to join Pot @ £500 on: July 17, 2018, 11:45:32 PM
There is one month until the start of EPL season, so I'm sure that we will get some more players. Personally, I'm not expecting to reach top 5 because I'm not following EPL very closely. So, it's just for fun. @hilariousandco, it's sad thay you don't organize prediction pools of La Liga or Champions league Cheesy

Well, lets just say I hope I do a little better than the world cup. I sort of gave up in the end, and went for some outlandish scores. Yeah, that didn't work either. Champions league could be a interesting one, but I'm not sure how popular the La Liga one would be compared to this pool.
5003  Other / Meta / Re: Looking for the funniest trust feedback. on: July 17, 2018, 11:40:06 PM
Whilst on my hunt for a specific feedback comment I see that a few users have just spammed the feedback of certain users which separate ratings. I kind of wished there was a limitation on how many times you can give a person trust every 30 days or something.
5004  Other / Meta / Re: How about starting Loyce's lobby, or a similar clubroom. on: July 17, 2018, 11:36:04 PM
It's the infrequency of posts, and the fact that newbies and juniors can't post there that reduces activity. I hoped to create something that had a more general appeal.
Yeah, unfortunately Serious Discussion doesn't really appeal to half the population here on the forums so the activity is pretty low. In terms of spam though I only see a couple here, and there which when reported get dealt with quite quickly.
5005  Other / Meta / Re: Diverse Plagiarisms and Bot activity on: July 17, 2018, 11:32:24 PM
Its probably not needed to keep a public log of all the reported messages. You could just archive any of your reports, and reference them in future reports if you wanted. If you are doing it for you to keep track of what you have, and have not reported then you should just do it locally rather than publicly.

Alternatively, there's another thread about plagiarism already in Meta which you can add too.
5006  Other / Meta / Re: How about starting Loyce's lobby, or a similar clubroom. on: July 17, 2018, 07:48:16 PM
Wouldn't it be easier to hire a moderator for ivory tower?
I think some people would do that for free, as there are few posts there..

Probably due to a lack of reporting that the lack of moderation. Judging by the section it doesn't need to have a dedicated moderator like other sections in the forum. I don't think there's too much of an issue there personally.
5007  Other / Meta / Re: Application for a merit source on: July 17, 2018, 03:23:15 PM
I award meits to posts that I like, and that I think contribute to the forum. I can't see why anyone would feel comfortable with a different policy.
Sometimes I find myself meriting posts that I don't outright like, but they bring up good points. I guess you could see this as meriting posts that I like, but there's a few instances that the user is too outspoken, and throws a bit of abuse in there. But, fundamentally they are bringing up good points. This reminds me of a user that was banned recently.
Moving on - Wouldn't it be useful if I could delegate some sMerits to members like pugman, and then the admins could review the way he handles those to help them to decide on new appointments?
I think this is one of the problems with finding merit sources. At the moment we are pretty much relying on users applying for the position, and having an history of receiving merits, and sending them. This probably isn't the most optimal way of selecting merit sources as not every potential merit source is going to have good quality posts, but may be pretty good at finding, and rewarding others. I know that the listing of 10 posts shows your capability kind of, but users with a history are far more likely.

I think I was only accepted due to the amount of merits I received just before my merit application. I don't know if that would of been the case if I didn't have that.
5008  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 16, 2018, 09:20:24 PM
I appreciate the support guys, but like I said my reports get handled pretty quickly, and there's probably others which are reporting in better timezones. United Kingdom is a pretty well covered timezone from what I can gather.
5009  Other / Meta / Re: Most of our moderators are inactive on: July 15, 2018, 12:37:36 PM
Mike hearn isn't a moderator either. He was likely given permissions there because hes the original author of BitcoinJ. Hes since quit Bitcoin, though. Shame, because he was one of the contributors to Bitcoin Core too.

Its not a very active section anymore even though their github still gets commits etc.
5010  Other / Meta / Re: Most of our moderators are inactive on: July 15, 2018, 09:19:24 AM
It must be difficult for Theymos.
Yeah, I certainly don't envy him. Even with all the criticism he seems to approach things with a level head, and look out for the best of intentions for the forum, and Bitcoin. I have a lot of respect for theymos, because its far from easy running a forum like Bitcointalk.

It is obvious that many areas of the forum are causing the overloading of mods, and it is for this reason that I have suggested that some automatic restrictions are imposed on boards and new posters. The only alternative is to appoint a couple of hatchet men to clean up the boards, and that will cause a massive rise in complaints.

I'm not a fan of restrictions, but regarding the bump bots it might be the only way. I think I'm pissing off a few moderators by spamming them with reports.
5011  Other / Meta / Re: [PARODY] The Infinity Snap. Bitcointalk edition? on: July 14, 2018, 09:44:58 AM
That's interesting looking at the comments you've left when reporting. Here's one of mine "Ref spam; Whack this fool yo". Yeah, quite happy with that one if I may say so myself.
5012  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 14, 2018, 12:12:34 AM
Still - it sounds like a waste of time for you and the mods, given your near-perfect record. Would be far more efficient to hand you the hammer or the big red button or whatever that thing is that makes spam disappear.
My report statistics are a little exaggerated too. Like I said if I had downloaded Telegram, and Discord, and checked these before reporting individually I would have much lesser stats.

If it were a waste of time I'm sure theymos would of addressed this long ago.
5013  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 13, 2018, 10:59:43 PM
Having almost 40k reports is no joke. And you have less than 500(?) bad reports. Doesn't matter. Your record is more than just perfect.

263 bad. Some were for not explaining why I reported a few times, and had to report a few. That's what inspired the reporting effectively guide. I'm planning on creating a telegram account, and discord account dedicated to finding out these altcoins, and ICOs which are offering an incentive, and reporting them with the evidence. However, at the moment I've just been reporting the individual replies. Unless, I find them offering an incentive on their website or social medias.

You know you sound like a nerd who is upset because he got 99/100 in math and is now depressed for losing 1 mark for handwriting.  Angry
I'm a perfectionist by nature, although never come up with anything ever near perfect. It's a real struggle.
Really though, I don't see a lot of users reporting in the local boards. I maybe wrong, but almost anybody would give up reporting on local boards with no mods.
I'm not fluent enough in any languages to report effectively. Except Welsh, but there aren't exactly a thriving community of Welsh people here Cheesy
5014  Other / Meta / Re: "PrіmeCоreICО Dashboard" Spam flooded the forum. Bots... again. on: July 13, 2018, 10:55:45 PM
I sort of have a solution to this, but only at the expense of other users and mods time. If both of them agree to, we can do a lot of damage to shitposters. The idea is really simple(doesn't take a genius to figure it out actually). But time consuming as hell. So basically gather a few bitcointalk members, go to random boards and start binge reporting. Like for an hour or so. That might actually help a lot. It may seem like a stupid idea but it might just work. Its time to bring in the Infinity war parody. Instead of snapping thanos's finger, let mods smash the nuke button. If reddit can do it, so can we.
I've been dedicating my time for several months now for a few hours at a time sometimes. Still hasn't made a dent. They'll just make new accounts, and you have to start the process all over again. I'm not too bothered because I find reporting quite therapeutic. I invite anyone else to dedicate their time to report, though.
5015  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 13, 2018, 10:45:34 PM
Holy crap... he could replace all moderators at once.
Honestly, the moderators still have to deal with my reports, and are likely dealing with hundreds/thousands more from other people. I think users on this forum don't appreciate how much the moderators actually do.

Welsh has reported 36,000+ posts[/url] Embarrassed( have a total of 100). I have seen eternalgloom being interested on moderating Altcoin section, but I don't know how much he has reported or anything at all. Any other recommendations?
39744 currently. Although, I have a lot of bad reports so I'm far from a perfect record. I would disagree though. Top reporters haven't been known to get appointed, and users who can speak other languages are probably much more likely to be appointed. I don't participate in any local boards or report in any. My reports get dealt with within a few hours anyway.

@theymos requesting custom title "biggest grass" on the forum Cheesy
5016  Other / Meta / Re: "PrіmeCоreICО Dashboard" Spam flooded the forum. Bots... again. on: July 13, 2018, 10:36:50 PM
This is happening every day with a number of different threads. I've been trying to report as many as possible, but I think we need to look at imposing restrictions. Even though I'm not a fan of that approach it doesn't seem like the current staff can handle it, and it wouldn't be as simple as adding a few more to fix it.
5017  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 13, 2018, 03:53:04 AM
but I hope Croatia will win in this tourney, I always like the idea of underdogs winning.
Yeah, I think the majority of the world will now be supporting them. Even though, they were a little bit rough with England, and gave them some tough love. I think they are a decent team, and I like some of their players like Loveren, and Modric. France aren't exactly a pushover though, and will fancy their chances here.
5018  Other / Meta / Re: Retrieving Hacked Account. on: July 13, 2018, 03:26:56 AM
Hi, is it okay to use ethereum address to sign a message? because I don't have my private key of my bitcoin address.

I believe they have been accepted before. Just make sure that is the oldest of the addresses that you can sign, and message cyrus/theymos every now, and then, and be prepared to wait for a few months. A few users seem to have been just waiting under a year. So you could be waiting a long time for it to be recovered.
5019  Other / Meta / Re: In progress: List of posts worth receiving merits on: July 12, 2018, 10:22:49 PM
At some of the other members, I would like to say: quit acting like the Merit Police... Who deserves Merits? Should people give Merits to this or that post? Who is buying Merits? Some have come to the point where they start to not only give their opinion on the value and content of forum posts (which is right), but even criticize the fact that other people are Meriting some posts which they believe shouldn't be Merited. And now I am criticizing THOSE people! Damn I stepped into my own trap!

To these members I would like to point out the fact that the domain name MeritTalk.org is still available.

Oh come on, people, how more absurd can it become???

Or to say it in a Monty Python-fashion kind of way: this is TOO silly now.
Merit is subjective, and I think that's what you are trying to get at, but really there needs to be some sort of standard. For example, a few bounty projects have been merited just to gain favour with the campaign manager. This has also happened on some of the Bitcoin campaigns. There's also been a few merits rewarded for memes or because someone agrees with another users post. This isn't something I like to see merit getting spent on. Of course, we can't stop this, and in reality it's not likely a big problem in the grand scope of things, but its still quite annoying to see.
5020  Other / Meta / Re: Idea: Courses on: July 12, 2018, 10:18:01 PM
I don't think its a problem in finding the people willing to help out, and volunteer their time. Its the fact that a lot of these people who can write about the technical stuff will not be able to format the course effectively for those that are learning. Something similar to Gits pull requests should be enough for keeping it up to date, and relevant. Pedagogy is an art. Its one thing gathering the information, and setting it out in a logical order, but actually formatting it for ease of learning can be difficult.
