61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XRB]Cryptocurrency's killer app: RaiBlocks micropayments on: February 20, 2018, 08:31:53 AM
I missed all the fun with the NANO change and the hack. What exactly happened? Hard fork? Were the stolen funds recovered with the fork? And what happens with the old XRB coin? Should we now have 2 coins at the same address? What needs to be done? Just update wallet?

Bitgrail got hacked and XRB stolen. No hardfork

then what's with the new coin? cmc shows both nano and XRB with different prices.

Don't think that people with power would not do the impossible to stay there.

just a curiosity about your image text: there are countries where the government can force you to hand in the decryption keys to read that diary. UK being one of them :|

Good to see more and more onion guys making the switch from deep opnion to spectrecoin. finally the whole cryptocommunity grows up.

if you are referring to me I'm not switching anything. Don't flatter yourself. I hold over 15 coins atm, more then half of them being privacy coins: xspec, onion, nav, privx, particl, zero, ....

Switching implies all eggs in one basket which is stupid. If you are doing that, stop and think.

you must have been the coolest guy i've ever seen... Roll Eyes

15 coins, all 3 coins each... you are the type of guy, that can't choose between kitkat, mars, milkyway, Bounty, M&M, twix, smarties, Bros, snickers and lion ? or you just havn't the skills to choose properly and just divide everything over everything... that's what i mean by.. very cool guy

It's not that I can't pick good ones, but it's just not worth the risk of going all and picking the one dud. As long as most of the picks are good you can afford a couple of losses without much stress. It's called a portfolio and it's the only way sound investing can be done. Picking one and going all in is gambling. Doesn't matter that you have pocket aces if you haven't see the other 3 cards mate.

I've been looking over the richlist and examined the transactions of the air drop addresses. I wanted to do some of my own math on the distributions and I noticed that these addresses are staking!

http://explorer.deeponion.org/address/DhWJMa5kGNQ5iXGNoquRZQKSmARw1DyS2Z

Am I reading this wrong? Aren't these supposed to be funds not in circulation? I mean us as a community should be doing the staking and receiving those rewards....
Has this been answered? I also don't want to spread fud but I have seen people talking about this in other threads aswell so I would like to be able to give them an answer.

what is wrong with the Development fund staking and getting more funds for development Huh? I really can't figure out what your point is. It's only logical that airdrop, dev team, founders reward wallets are staking to be able to give bigger rewards to the users... come on.. think!!

But doesn't this mean that the staking reward is lower than 10% as it is declared? I haven't checked how often the devs wallets are staking but if we assume that 45.92% of the coins (that's how much they hold right now and of course it was more in the weeks before) are staking regularly, the staking reward for the public would be lower by a noteworthy amount. If this is right (Please put me right if I am wrong) this should simply be communicated openly.
I don't get why you react so emotional on a normal question.  Huh

The staking rewards is 10% no matter how many coins you hold, doesn't matter if someone else holds 50% and is staking same time as you. Sure, your accumulated staking might suffer a bit from this since you might not stake as often (but when you stake you get a higher % since it has been longer). But the difference for the accumulated staking is not so big imo. Better that they stake and can have more coins for rewards and development.

But that is my opinion and I have heard about this before and nothing I thought the developers were hiding. I hope that answered your question, otherwise feel free to visit the community forum and ask your question directly to the moderators Smiley

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. If they stake 50% of the coins we are getting only half of the rewards we should be getting. We are staking twice slower. How can it be good that they are taking money from those actively staking and keeping the transactions running to give it to passive holders? Doesn't make sense. Also, more coins means more inflation, not more money. By staking the pre-mine they are simply creating unnecessary inflation. It's not more money for devs, it's less for us.

Another point is the non-circulating supply that was declared to cmc, by which we all calculated what an onion is worth. The "non-circulating" supply is actually used which kinda makes it circulating.

Skycoin: Anatomy of a cryptocurrency scam

I think you are overreacting. Childish maybe. Scam, probably not.

There is no evidence that coinhours will be worth anything more then gas for ethereum. It's essentially the same thing and it's mean to prevent transaction spam since there is no other cost. I'd say let them iron out how Ch are going to work, and judge then. In the meantime obelisk is still a brilliant idea...

Can anyone give an example of a darkweb seller accepting XSPEC?

I don't think there is any yet.  Cry  Someone needs to be the first one!

we need an easy to integrate sdk for the common platforms before we can dream of adoption. No way you can approach a store without giving them a link to the SDK and API.

After that it's just about letting people know.

Don't forget we got Number 1 Spot on Bitindia Round 2!
DeepOnion (ONION)                   4486
Infinity Economics (XIN)        4447

40 votes made the difference Cheesy

it's not over yet. They have not removed what they consider fake votes left and considering the difference it's this small I think it's still undecided
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: February 16, 2018, 04:03:21 PM

Well real anonymity is very hard to get. First of all tor is not anonymous. It offers some degree of protection but there are many known attacks (starting from corelation attacks on corrupt exit nodes and zero days vulnerabilities in tor browser to isolation attacks on hidden services) that can be used to reveal both users as well as hidden services as evidenced by the large number of arrests and raids related to darkweb websites. I think they close a marketplace every month Smiley

That being said if you want to be truly anonymous you will always combine several measures such as
- tor (which is probably the only legal one and least secure + most likely to get spied on corrupt exit nodes)
- chaining proxies on hacked servers (that you know for sure keep no logs) - this is the easiest
...

Indeed. Real anonymity and privacy is very hard. That's why you need always many complementary components to play together, and that's why there is no "one best" solution (it always comes down to a series of compromises). And I understand now what you meant by the link between illegal activities and anonymity. Although I believe you can still achieve very high level of anonymity even without resorting to illegal means.

Now, you mention chaining proxies (and other similar measures) ... but in the context of XSPEC what for? Since XSPEC is natively on Tor it never leaves the the network and never uses exit nodes. That's one of the great features, which other coins that have the wallet outside Tor and use Tor for transportation don't have. Or did I miss your point?

to be honest I haven't looked much into how these tor bridges like obfs or meek work, but my understanding is they are built on the hidden service concept which we already know is not something bulletproof.

Anyway my post was not necessarily meant to highlight a problem for xspec. For all I care it could have no transport anonymity at all. Those that really care know how to do that and are already doing it when using monero. The important thing is that transactions cannot be linked together or tracked to an exchange.

It was just a general comment on what staying anonymous means (in connection with what was said about the devs staying anonymous because they are afraid). I've seen a lot of wild claims in general on the forum and somehow people are mixing the idea of privacy from companies and prying eyes (which can easily be achieved with a set of security good practices) with anonymity from a government (which means fighting a system that was built around tracking you - and with good reason I might add)

72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: February 16, 2018, 12:33:17 PM
But no other privacy coin - NONE WHATSOEVER - has an unknown development team. Think about it: should a powerful government want to crack down on Monero or DeepOnion, for instance, they could infiltrate or even eliminate and replace the development team, since the project members are publicly known. XSPEC is protected even against such personal attacks.

Really amazing stuff, if you ask me.

monero is at a point where it has a very large community with some 200+ individuals contributing code. It would be virtually impossible at this point to track down the entire "team" and prevent somebody to fork the project and carry on. It doesn't even matter now who started it. And generally that is the best approach because to be honest tracking an individual nowadays is pretty easy. Real anonymity is very hard to achieve these days and only through very illegal means. Even then it's a matter of how hard the said government is trying to get you and if they are willing to play dirty or not

FYI there are other coins with anonymous devs (see skycoin) and it's not generally perceived as an advantage.

A large community of developers is not necessarily a good thing: aside from loss of agility and flexibility (there is a required overhead for coordination and governance to ensure the work of 200 developer are aligned), having that many developers means there will be specialization as well, which means it's possible to compromise the entire system by compromising a small group. Having 200 developers is NOT the same as having 200 levels of redundancy (which indeed would give some form of security against compromising).

And "virtually impossible" is not impossible for a government agency with pretty much unlimited resources.

Curious what you think the link is between achieving real anonymity and taking illegal actions? Why would one be related to the other?

I agree that in general and for "usual" project anonymity is a disadvantage. For the ultimate privacy, I am still convinced it's an advantage.

That being said if you want to be truly anonymous you will always combine several measures such as
- tor (which is probably the only legal one and least secure + most likely to get spied on corrupt exit nodes)
- chaining proxies on hacked servers (that you know for sure keep no logs) - this is the easiest
- renting compromised machines from botnet owners and proxying traffic
- rent "bulletproof" hosting from the likes of Russian business network (and you would have to trust some really shady people)
- war-driving around town and using unsuspecting people's wireless networks (hard because you would need to avoid cameras and not frequent the same areas)
- buy prepaid cards with 3G/4G from the dark web (getting a sufficient number of cards will be expensive + you will need to be on the move as cell phone towers log locations)
- sniff gsm traffic and clone phones around your cell and use their data plans (you will be on the move again + buying expensive equipment to spoof cell towers + having an adrenaline rush when you get the said equipment which is illegal to own in most countries from your postoffice + I don't think you can inject anything more then GSM traffic since anything newer then GPRS is encrypted)

As you can see most of the methods above are likely to get you into trouble themselves, so I guess if you have a real reason to hide from the government you need to put in time, effort and money. The internet is not designed for anonymity.

Let me know if I missed something obvious that would let you hide from a warrant or worse a determined government agency willing to play dirty

73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XRB]Cryptocurrency's killer app: RaiBlocks micropayments on: February 16, 2018, 09:38:03 AM
why is XRB not taking part of the general uptrend of the rest of the coins? Most rose 30% this week, and XRB fell 20%

Bitcoin private is taking a lot of the attention these days. Please notice that bitcoin private has nothing to do with bitcoin! Zclassic developers have failed to make their coin popular, so they are going to rebrand it to bitcoin private. They hope they will get the same price as bcash which of course is not going to happen. Just be aware that it's another one of those coins trying to be the future bitcoin, when we all know there can only be one bitcoin.

Yeah this is pretty unreal. So the sooner we have DeepSend and the other features on DeepOnion, we can compete head to head and gain traction with those seeking to adopt a privacy type currency. Deep Onion seems to solve a lot of the problems that btc and monero have faced with privacy being at stake.

I'm not sure for now what problems of monero are being solved, not even on the road map...

Steath adress and stealth staking are comming guys. I see lot of communities starting to join our project and abandon no progress coins , starting to realize where Deeponion is determined to land ;-)

stealth addresses yes, but not stealth staking. Until somebody shows me a whitepaper with stealth staking explained I'm going to call that one a myth.

The Bitindia Exchange vote, we cast more than 65,000 votes in the Chinese community, and now enter the second round, there is the third round of it? Or the fourth round?

You can use deepvault Verification
Verification Address: Ddq1aik6K54aW8DgVev2Rqrq4q9Z7RsR1W

That's the power of DeepOnion! Sheer domination!!
Can't wait for the airdrops to get over. We will get listed on top exchanges without a doubt. This is the year for DeepOnion! HODL everybody.
Yeah the more exchange site the better and healthier for deeponion keep supporting guys this is a life changer project Wink I'm so glad for what Deeponion now ang next to come .

how did we get 73k votes? We don't have 73k users. Certainly not according to the used addresses.....

true, nowadays it is hard to get any merits...

i need like 141 merits and dont know how to get them. already making quality posts, but i assume no legendary or meritpools can see me Smiley

I totally gave up. I'm going to be a member forever. No point even trying anymore. The system is totally broken.

There are great features planned, all of which you will find in the roadmap. Two of my personal favorites which have the power to catapult XSPEC into the stratosphere and beyond are Stealth Staking and the mobile wallet with staking capability.

(If you like my post, just click +Merit on the right. It will be appreciated)

It's a common mistake to think an asset price will explode after something on the road map is finished but in the real world things don't work like that. In general, if something has been announced (i.e. public knowledge) it's already included in the price. The only way for it to rise would be if people were unaware of it being on the road map.

Its good that the price of deep onion hasn't completely plummeted like others. Some coins out there have lost nearly 80% of value. This shows that there is a decent community behind this project. Keep holding cons and keep promoting this project. The short term incentives are not there any more such as free onions but the long term incentives are the same. This will be a huge potential here for as long as the team keeps  up with the developments. And we keep promoting and holding.

not sure if this is sarcasm or not.... 20$ to 4$ is 80%....
