61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to Arbitrage Time for Cryptocurrency on: January 17, 2020, 08:13:37 PM
arbitraging these days is hard to be profitable due to exchange trade & withdraw fees, settlement times, volatility, and so on.

i especially dont think daily rebalancing of my "portfolio" with your bot and incurring more exchange fees will improve my position.

I appreciate you sharing! We performed a number of studies comparing rebalancing to hodling and we found some interesting results. I would encourage you to check them out and let me know what you think!

How Often to Rebalancing Your Crypto Portfolio

Happy to answer any questions about the study!

These results are unrealistic. you're basing performance exclusively on backtesting, which uses historical data instead of real-time trading data. The daily close price is much different that what actually went on intraday... Your data doesn't seem to include trading fees either... if rebalancing hourly was profitable, then we'd see the big funds like coinbase index fund or bloomberg crypto index doing similar.

Thank you for sharing! I would like to clarify a couple of things.

1. We do not use daily close price. We use actual order book data taken directly from the exchange. That means the open orders that were actually available on the exchange at the exact time we simulate the rebalance.
2. Yes, we absolutely include trading fees. This is discussed in the article.

Please let me know if you have any other questions! I'm more than happy to discuss the results in detail.
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How to Arbitrage Time for Cryptocurrency on: January 08, 2020, 11:31:01 PM
Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year!

This may sound like a strange topic, but I wanted to take a moment to discuss the "arbitrage of time". That's right, time.

You might be wondering, "what do you mean by arbitrage time?"

Well, there are a few things for which we have become certain in the crypto market. One of these things is that in the long term the cryptocurrency community will continue to expand, grow, and foster new advancements. This presents a so-called "arbitrage" opportunity.

I speak about it in detail in this article:

The Crypto Strategy to Arbitrage Time

Let me know what you think! I would love to hear the discussion on this idea.

65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is KuCoin better than HitBTC for trading altcoins? on: December 18, 2019, 11:30:06 PM
I love shrimpy posts, they are always in detail and gives so much information regarding... well basically whatever they are writing about at that moment but their exchange information are always superb. I personally like kucoin more because I have talked with the team there and checked out their security before and they are amazing however I can't deny that hitbtc is also a great place.

I think "both" is a good answer because it depends on what you are looking for from a website but I also think that a proper trader that is interested with many coins and many possibilities of trading should be going one way (I guess you figured out what which one I would pick). However, if you are newbie then hitbtc is simpler and easier and you could have your first start there.

I'm excited to hear you like the posts! Since it takes a lot of time to put these articles together, it's always reassuring to know that people appreciate it. Don't hesitate to let me know if there is a specific topic you would like to see covered in the future! Thanks for the feedback on these exchanges, these are great points.

76  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto is changing the personal asset management market on: November 21, 2019, 01:25:19 AM
Good article, couple observations - You're right that there aren't many asset managing firms that work with cyrpto's but I would add that it's slowly changing for the better. Larger financial firms like Goldman Sachs have started entertaining crypto's and I know for a fact that smaller institutions have opened the road to managing and allocating Bitcoin to client accounts.

Last note on the amount of investors. I'd be willing wager that the amount of investors are probably inflated. The amount of people that truly have a significant portion of their investment funds within Bitcoin, or any other crypto for that matter, are probably minimal. Most people have their money tied up in other precious metals and it's likely that people hopped on the bandwagon after the boom in Bitcoin these last few years putting away an extremely minute portion of their funds in BTC and letting it sit.

Again, good article!

I appreciate all the great points! Yes, the move by institutions towards accepting crypto has been slow, but it is happening. Over the course of the next few years, I expect we will continue to see acceptance by these institutions as they develop their own crypto solutions and feel comfortable with the progress of the space.

I agree about the numbers. At this stage it's still difficult to accurately gauge the number of participants in the market, so I hope there will be more studies that look at these numbers.

There is a big shift coming from institutional management to personal asset management. What do you guys think about this transition? Is it a good or bad thing?

78  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How many trades do you think exchanges are processing each day? on: November 20, 2019, 11:14:51 PM
Can I ask, what is the purpose of counting the number of trades daily? You cannot precisely count the exact trades per day because some exchanges are mostly faking trades using hundreds of bots even if you use some tools to count you cannot totally determine what is fake or real trade.

That's a great question! I think one of the problems is this data has not been readily available. As a result, we haven't had enough time to determine all of the ways this data is useful. I imagine there are people out there who have specific times they would need to know how many trades were executed over a certain period of time. Although I'm not one of those people, I wouldn't rule out the possibility.

Yes, I agree the results can be skewed by wash trading. However, I think knowing the number of trades that are executed is also a good way to determine the amount of wash trading being done on a given exchange. Pairing this with trading volume and other stats, I'm sure it would be possible to estimate the volume of wash trading. However, I haven't given it enough thought at this time to know for certain.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!
79  Economy / Exchanges / How many trades do you think exchanges are processing each day? on: November 20, 2019, 01:14:58 AM
Hi Everyone!

Have you ever wondered how many trades exchanges are processing each month?

I just published an article which answers this exact question and also equips you with the tools to track the number of trades each exchange is executing over time.

This is how many trades exchanges are processing every month

What do you guys think? Was this more or less than you were expecting?

Would love to chat with everyone to hear your thoughts!
80  Economy / Exchanges / Anyone think the fees are too high on Coinbase Pro? on: November 19, 2019, 12:36:58 AM
Hi Everyone!

Coinbase Pro has been hiking their fees which is making it difficult for retail investors to implement successful trading strategies which frequently execute orders.

Do you think the Coinbase Pro fees are too high? I wrote an article on the topic, but I would love to hear what you think.
