Why do I need not to give up my bitcoins? How does that going to benefit in the long run??

Because you will most likely lose money if you sell bitcoin on a long enough timeline. Limited supply, and a constant demand for bitcoin, will guarantee an increase on price. The decreases in price have been only distractions in the path to glory. Do not fall for the FUD artists, they have an agenda to create dips and crashes, get your cheap coins after you sell, and then continue raising the price on the long term.

Chances are, if you try to time the market, you will end up with loses, simply hold and buy further dips.
62  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency as the Imperial End-game on: November 21, 2017, 07:22:46 PM
The global empire is tired.  Its real economic output is being surpassed by new, rising powers.  It has issued so much debt that there's no hope of really paying it back.  Its people are used to the good life and are less productive than before, and its prices are too high and can't come down without a disaster.  It has been hit by financial crisis after financial crisis.  Everyone in the know is saying the empire's days are numbered.

But the empire has one last trick.  It manages to get the bankers and politicians in all major economies to change their monetary system so totally that the empire is suddenly much wealthier.  (Don't ask me why those countries agreed to it!)  The empire lasts another half-century in splendor and comfort.

2010s America?  Good guess, but it was 1870s Britain.  Britain talked the US, Germany and France into abandoning silver as money and using gold exclusively.  The Bank of England, which had gold but not silver, suddenly got rich, relatively.

Perhaps, the reason why the US and Germany foolishly abandoned silver was , like Napoleon said, bankers have no loyalty to their countries.

We've seen this movie before.  Substitute cryptocurrencies for gold, and gold for silver, and it's the same script.  More or less.  I suspect it will end the same way.

Bitcoin is limited in its nature and has the ability to keep track record of everything, it cannot be manipulated as gold, silver, and anything that is based upon them, because it's not mathematically verified.

I see BTC as the new gold, and second layer networks would allow for a "fiat done right" solution for everyday usage.

The current Empire will either pick a big position in Bitcoin, or will put on a fight trying to destroy Bitcoin, there are no grays here to my knowledge.
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: INSANE BITCOIN TRANSACTION FEES!!!<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< on: November 21, 2017, 06:59:28 PM

PS: Why doesn't the Bitcoin network just increase the block size to 1 TB and change the block time to 30 seconds??? (Or just make it like Litecoin?) (Or make it Proof of Stake?)[/color]

Because if you increase the blocksize to 1 TB, the blocksize will be too big for anyone to run a node except corporations:

As a result, Bitcoin would no longer be sovereign money, but a money subjected to what these corporations want to do with your transactions. The trust model is broken.

I don't care what satoshi wanted, all I know is I want to keep being able to validate my own transactions.

IOTA, Bitcoin Cash and all of these coins aren't decentralized. There is no such thing as cheap decentralization, unfortunately.
64  Economy / Services / Re: [BOUNTY][ICO][Signature] 🔥💥 Angel Token ICO 🔥💥 up to $150/week in BTC on: November 20, 2017, 05:46:55 PM
So if I made 12 posts on my first term because I joined half term, these 12 posts are now included within the current term, meaning that I need to do 18 posts for this term to reach the 30 posts for the payment, correct??
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Has anyone managed to sync an Ethereum full node on: November 20, 2017, 03:55:14 PM
Ethereum is impossible to sync as a full node in my experience. I tried to sync the entire blockchain and after 2 weeks (yes, 2 weeks!!!) im still stuck at less than 50%. It seems there was some sort of spam attack and some of the blocks are pretty much impossible to download and could even damage your hard drive due the insane amount of i/o activity.

I would like to know how can Ethereum ever be trusted if you can't even properly sync a clean blockchain since day 0.
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Clashic (NEW fork, not Bcash) on: November 20, 2017, 01:48:32 PM
what was the real intention of they at the moment that they forked a "forked" coin?
it just makes no sense, what are they trying to do? it seems that they want to have more altcoins to pump and dump claiming that they are the real bitcoins.
what are they going to say next? that ethereum classic is the real ethereum because it has no bugs and no parity hacks?
I dont know what they are trying to do, but they are the most ambicius community that i have ever seen, everything that they are doing is only to earn more, and more money.

The point is to show how stupid this "satoshi's vision" thing is. So they forked Bitcoin Cash before the Bitcoin Cash fork for the EDA adjustment, and they claim this pre EDA adjustment fork the real Bitcoin Cash as a joke mostly.

Also notice that you will receive coins from your main BTC chain. I think this is not an actual fork of the Bcash chain so you will not receive Clashic coins for BCH but for BTC (correct me if im wrong).
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Clashic (NEW fork, not Bcash) on: November 19, 2017, 04:25:59 PM
Then we need to say "welcome" to this new garbage and trash. After bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold garbages, we actually don't need another useless bitcoin fork, but it seems the people behind it don't think like us.

Hope, no exchange lists this coin.

This is just a jokecoin exposing the jokes of hardforks, it's actually a good thing. The more amounts of hardforks that happen from now on, the more the original bitcoin is going to shine.

This is actually good:

How is transaction replay being handled between the new and the old blockchain?

Bitcoin Clashic transactions use a new signature hashing algorithm indicated by the flag SIGHASH_FORKID. These signatures are not valid on the Bitcoin Legacy network. This prevents Bitcoin Clashic transactions from being replayed on the Bitcoin blockchain and vice versa. Anyone else using Bitcoin Clashic's method and deployed later is a direct attack to Satoshi's True Vision

BCH should have done this.

I can't find what hashing mining algorithm this coin is using tho. If it uses SHA256 I would oppose.

Merchants and users are empowered with low fees and reliable confirmations. The future shines brightly with unrestricted growth, global adoption, permissionless innovation, and decentralized development.

All Bitcoin holders as of block 478558 are also owners of Bitcoin Clashic. All are welcome to join the Bitcoin Clashic community as we move forward in creating sound money accessible to the whole world.

Their community is pretty active. Already more than 2,000 followers in twitter:

They also have a reddit and more. Looks like they are serious about this even if it's some kind of joke, I wonder what value it will have.

69  Other / Meta / Re: Spent 5 minutes trying to login with Tor on: November 18, 2017, 06:07:20 PM
This doesn't work with Tor, if it worked then Tor wouldn't be anonymous.

Tor switches IP automatically each time, also Tor does not save anything including cookies, everything that happens in the Tor Browser windows is kept on the RAM so there is nothing persistent. You can save bookmarks on the browser but that's about it. There is no browser history to save because Tor doesn't save anything by design.
Even in Tor Browser you can set your preferences to remember history and accept cookies. This doesn't tell Bitcointalk anything about you, so you're still anonymous. A man in the middle attack is also not possible. If you make this your default settings in your Tor browser, it should work to stay logged in.

You're probably right that it compromises your privacy somewhat, but I don't know how to rate that risk. A simple solution to still have the full privacy when needed would be to use Tor in private browsing mode for sites other than Bitcointalk.

But I don't think that it would help. Even if you save cookies, history and whatnot, the IP is still going to keep switching every X minutes so I think it may log off, or maybe not because it depends on the cookies file independently of what IP you are using.. but I would rather not tweak with these settings. It is activated to not save anything by default for a reason. I guess I will have to deal with the annoying captchas and hope not all Tor nodes end up getting banned because then it's over.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin ABC stuck at block 478558 and not syncing on: November 18, 2017, 05:24:49 PM
Did you use your previous .blk files (from "block" folder) and copy-pasted them in the Bitcoin ABC folder? I did the same, it got stuck near the end, im not sure what block is it, I would need to check again later in my other computer.

I hope I don't need to resync from scratch...

If you open this window do you see?

Also is your harddrive showing any activity?
71  Other / Meta / Re: Spent 5 minutes trying to login with Tor on: November 18, 2017, 04:20:37 PM
Is there any solution to this in just a regular browser?
If it's your own PC, you can tick the "Always stay logged in:" box. I can't remember the last time I had to login, that's how long it has been.
I don't use Tor so can't test it, but can't you just tick this box to remember your login? Unless you want to erase your browser history after every session, this should stop the captcha login.

Just letting you know that I updated my avatar and signature, and I already posted 1 time.

Also where is the spreadsheet at? i cant seem to find the link.

Please can you answer this?

Also, am I going to get paid for the current term even if I don't reach 30 posts? it's not possible to make 30 posts during the first week if you join mid term, I would like to get paid for the effort, then on the next terms I will be able to make 30 posts.
73  Other / Meta / Re: Spent 5 minutes trying to login with Tor on: November 17, 2017, 06:27:35 PM
Did you try telling Tor to "use a new circuit for this site"? I use Tor a fair bit, and whenever I occasionally get reCaptcha problems, that fixes it.

Yes, this is the workaround that I have been using, but I have definitely noticed how it's increasingly harder to find a Tor node that isn't banned by the google captcha thing.

At this rate, all Tor nodes will be banned and you will not be able to log in because you will get that message every time.

Sometimes I get unlucky and keep getting banned Tor nodes which deliver that message. Finally I find one that works but im not able to complete the captcha on time and the Tor node is switched into another banned node... so a chain of unlucky events can keet you trying to log in for a while.
74  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How does "balance" work in offline wallets? on: November 17, 2017, 05:05:01 PM
It's simple: if your're import private key then it's "balance" are in blockchain already. If you're create a new one and sending bitcoins to this address - in  cold storage you will never see it. But bitcoins will be on it.
Paper wallet it's good example.

Yes, im aware of that, it is pretty obvious actually now that I think of it, it would be impossible to keep track of your coins in an offline computer.

Yes, you need xpub (public master key) from your offline wallet and you can import it to some services and core wallet.

You need software with HD wallets supporting. Only in HD wallets you can create xpub or xpriv

Why would I need to do that?

If I want to keep track of addresses A B and C, I just need a software that would let me list the public A B and C addresses and keep the balance updated for me, so I don't need to go to blockchain.info and sum the amounts manually. It would actually be easy to program but I don't have the time for that, im sure such a program exists. If Bitcoin Core can do this please tell me how.
75  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How does "balance" work in offline wallets? on: November 17, 2017, 03:48:05 PM
Most of the time, it doesn't.

A offline wallet is most of the time meant to sign your transactions. You create a watch-only wallet and use it to create transactions (since it's connected to the internet, you can see all inputs available to be spent), move the raw transaction to your offline pc, sign the transaction and broadcast it through a connected device. Or at least, that's exactly how I make use of my cold-storage setup.

But the raw transaction should be made on the offline PC, otherwise this raw transaction data could be compromised if it's made on an online PC...

Anyone knows how to properly set up a watch-only wallet to keep track of your offline wallet's balance?

- snip -
to then be passed upon an online computer running a node.
- snip -

That's your answer right there.

If you are sending transactions, then you have an online component.  That inline component might be a watch-only wallet, or it might capture block information to be manually transferred to the offline component.

Regardless, the online component (which will not have any access to the private keys if you have configured it properly) is what you would use to collect the information necessary for seeing balances.

What software do you recommend as a watch-only wallet? Can I set up the node itself (Bitcoin Core's wallet) to be watch-only with the public addresses of my offline wallet?
76  Economy / Economics / Re: Reserve currency vs bitcoin currency in economical section ? on: November 16, 2017, 07:50:00 PM
From my point of view
1.If we want to simplify that reserve currency is low rate of risk than online currency
2. protocol system is manual but stronger than virtual currency
3.holders facilities are larger than bitcoin currency holders.
4. transection facilities are faster than reserve currency all over the world.
5. open transection process is better than reserve currency.
6. holders justification is not so much stronger like reserve currency
7. any cone cant open an account in serve currency but any one can open an account for virtual currency
8. popularity is not so much popular like online or digital currency

I don't understand your point. What do you define as "reserve currency"? If you mean the USD (which is the current world reserve currency, as far as I know), are you saying that we should be talking about the USD or BTC in the "Economical section" of the forum?

Reformulate the point of your thread so maybe I can give a proper answer.
77  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / How does "balance" work in offline wallets? on: November 16, 2017, 06:20:27 PM
I was considering setting up an offline wallet setup, maybe with for example Armory, which looks like the best cold storage wallet for desktops (or laptops). The thing is, I don't understand how are you supposed to get track of how many bitcoins you have, if your computer never touches the internet.

Let's say it's a proper air-gapped laptop with Armory installed on it, where I create receiving addresses, and make the transactions, to then be passed upon an online computer running a node. When I receive transactions on Armory's addresses (or make transactions) how does Armory know what my current balance is if it never reads the blockchain? How can it know how much to add or subtract to show up an updated correct balance?

This is a new record in me wasting time trying to fill up the captcha, only to get an error after you end up filling it (remember that the "find the car pictures" one is extremely slow in Tor for some reason). I kept getting this error:

Google captcha's definitely doesn't like Tor. I was wondering if there is anything in the works to mitigate this problem or we are stuck with this forever.
