602  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gox's "lost" bitcoins on: February 28, 2014, 07:13:38 PM

So they never checked if they had the correct private keys!?

From what I read, someone would send a coin and then change the transaction ID so it looked as though it didn't go through.  They'd contact Gox, and Gox would look and not find the transaction ID in the blockchain.  So they would send new coins.  Meanwhile, the coin they thought they didn't spend (But really did) went to the bottom of the coin pile.

If we assume that whoever was doing this was moving large numbers of coins, it's possible Gox ran out of good coins.

Certainly they have some coins left that are good though.  Probably they cashed those out when they realized the majority of their money is gone.

I agree he probably had Cold Storage, but was his cold storage filled with bogus coins?

Sounds like we could all speculate on this but until anyone performs a full investigation we won't ever know the truth.

603  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gox's "lost" bitcoins on: February 28, 2014, 03:17:12 PM
Imagine you are a cashier and you have a drawer with ten $100 bills.

A customer comes in and says, "Here's $100 can I exchange that for your $100"

You look at his bill, it looks the same as your bill.  So you give him $100 and put his bill on the bottom of your pile of $100.

This happens all day until all of your original $100 bills are gone, and have been replaced with the identical $100 bills.

You leave work with the handful of $100 bills, and you go to the bank.  You try to deposit the bills, but the bank says, "Sorry, these aren't real."

That's what Mt Gox has, basically...  A stack of worthless bitcoins that were already spent.

I'd keep eyes on the housing / rent that you've been wisely doing.  The other stuff has the potential for larger profits but also has some risk.  What if the farmer next door doesn't want it?  What if the zoning doesn't want to change?  At least right now anyway, you are buying properties that are already making money and don't have to rely on a sale to get money out of them.

As to Fracking...  I think if you were able (Down the road) to purchase a bunch of houses in a certain area you would be able to vote in the fracking and could mandatory pool in stragglers.  You would reap the profits from the Fracking being on your land and also be able to collect the rent from the renters.  A double win.

607  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How many BTC's did you have stored at MtGox? on: February 25, 2014, 06:57:39 PM
The thing to keep in mind is that MtGox had about 80% of the worlds bitcoins, so I am sure a lot of people lost thousands if not tens of thousands of Bitcoins. Sad

Gox wouldn't have any money problems if they had 80% of the world's bitcoins.  And the value of the remaining 20% would be worth a heck of a lot more now.  Considering they paid twice for the same transaction and then stored an invalid coin at the end of their coin pool, it's likely they didn't notice until their entire coin pool was exhausted and all the new transactions were being rejected as previously spent.  So they basically spent out all their coins and had none left.  (In theory)  Thus, they didn't take any bitcoins down with them.  They are all still out there.  What they went down with was a bunch of invalid coins.

Maybe they added LTC mining to the chips and that's what the software bonus is going to also include.  (I know, fat chance of that.)

I appreciate the updates and the honesty of what is going on.  Please continue to do this.

612  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: GROUP BUY [KNC Neptune-DayONE] [.6 Per share Sold Out] on: February 19, 2014, 06:34:31 PM
If you read his last post he said he doesn't check this thread and that you should pm him directly for any questions you may have.  Not saying that's a good thing, but everyone asking for spreadsheet and such in here is not being seen (Apparently) by him.  Also, he hasn't logged in since the 16th (As of this posting) so he's really not going to see it.
613  Other / Archival / Re: btt on: February 19, 2014, 06:32:15 PM
Ok, I'm not in the Google group, so just tell me this.  If you have the evidence to find him and the proof of the scam, why isn't law enforcement already involved?  What's the hold up there?
614  Other / Archival / Re: btt on: February 17, 2014, 05:49:21 PM
I doubt any legal action will take place because the work involved to track him down doesn't seem to be worth it for law enforcement.  There isn't enough to go on.  We're not even sure of his real name being correct.

Honestly, a bunch of people (Me included) invested in someone who nobody apparently met, vetted, or even has a picture of the guy.  Seems to be a common theme in Bitcoin investing that folks will throw good money at anyone who just writes up a big post with the promise of future $$$.

There really needs to be a better vetting process.  Instead of hiring Private Investigators after the fact, someone should have spent the money flying out to meet him first hand and getting a copy of his ID and running a background check on him.  But nobody is going to do that, because it would cost X% of their potential BTC value.

I chalk my investment up to money lost.  Even if you guys do find him, and sue him, he'll be broke and whatever equipment he has will be worthless.  I'm not saying he should get away with it, but the reason he is going to get away with it is because nobody (Including me) did the necessary vetting to make sure this guy is legit.

615  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: February 14, 2014, 07:50:46 PM
Can we just get some photos of the letter from the State to see that it is legit?  That would take Ken about 1 minute to throw together for us to see.

And don't come back and say the lawyer has it, because apparently you haven't met with him yet.

It appears it's starting to rise, so I'd vote to wait until end of the month.  It can always get worse but seems less likely.

Do we think they can tape out on February 20th and deliver on May 1st?  I guess the stars could align and everything will go perfect from here on out.  I don't believe it, but I guess it could happen.
618  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: February 11, 2014, 05:17:22 PM
Thing is, it appears everyone is under the assumption that when the Ukyo shares are sold that Ken will then add everyone's shares to be traded.  That's good reasoning, but I don't think Ken has actually said that is what he intends to do.  So he might sell all those shares and more and everyone will still be sitting here waiting for the transfer to take place.
619  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $1.99/GH/s, miners from $2.97/GH/s on: February 04, 2014, 11:18:17 PM
If BA could afford to give people double their hash or machines don't you think they'd of done this?  They know how this works.  They don't need someone to explain to them the difficulty rises every ten days stuff and so what was expected isn't going to be of the same value as 25% extra hash rate for four months.  They know that.  They just can't afford to give away double the machines or 100% extra hash is most likely the issue.

If they could, they would have sold 4TH miners instead of 2TH and still profit from it.

Have they said they've taped out yet?  I know it was delayed and it was supposed to be this week.  Has it happened?
