Good morning Bitcoinland.

Another day another AYH, even if only briefly.

Got the power back on last night. Hopefully that's all the outages this trip. Generator gas supply getting low. Also not having internet access is like not being in the 21st century. I feel whole again. Thank you Vint Cerf.

Onward and upward. Go Bitcoin go.

Bitcoin is not all about the USA. It's a global phenomenon.
605  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is ageing and old people part of bitcoin? on: March 14, 2023, 04:34:52 PM
I'm 75 years old. I bought into Bitcoin 10 years ago when it was $68 per coin because I saw its world-changing potential. I wasn't trying to get rich. I was participating in a revolution.

Now I'm living happily ever after. When I first became a Bitcoin millionaire 6 years ago, I replaced my old rotten teeth with top-of-the-line zirconia implants and bought 3 properties in Mexico. When my remaining bitcoins became worth more than $10m I bought 400 acres in prime cottage country with my own private 25 acre lake in the middle. Last year I bought a $2m triplex house in downtown Toronto. After a life of being single, I got married at the age of 71 to a woman 28 years younger than me. I didn't tell her about my bitcoins until after we were already together. Turns out she knew about Bitcoin before I did and always regretted putting her money into aquaponics instead of Bitcoin.

If anything, older people have an advantage when it comes to Bitcoin. They are more likely to have money to invest and definitely have more patience to hodl. They're probably also smarter. Remember it was boomers who gave us the internet  and cryptography. Don't sell them short.

BTC to FUD -

Fear? Uncertainty? Doubt?

I think not. Bitcoin is confidently going up.

Maybe you're referring to shitty Mexican processed meat products.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Another day, another leg up. This time up to $26.5k before leveling out around $26k. Almost a repeat of yesterday's jump of a couple of grand in a couple of hours.

Hopefully we'll continue the trend... a healthy sideways period to digest the leg up and then do it again tomorrow.

Unfortunately I won't be able to see it. They're cutting the power off tomorrow and Thursday so we'll be back on the generator with no internet. Heading back to Playa del Carmen a week from today and up to Toronto 3 days after that. Maybe we'll be back up over $30k reach page parity by then.

You silly bears still waiting for $12k?

609  Economy / Speculation / Re: Experience about trading in btc on: March 13, 2023, 04:23:24 PM
Trading is not investing. It is gambling. Buying an asset which you strongly value is investing.

Did you buy your house with the idea of selling it and waiting for a cheaper house to buy and sell again?

You probably bought your house to live in and enjoy. If it increases in value, that's just a bonus.

Selling your house to spend the money on lottery tickets, trading or casinos is just plain foolish.

A few people have become wealthy by selling their homes and investing in Bitcoin but they didn't do it by trading. They did it by holding long-term and they did it because they strongly believed in Bitcoin's importance.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Up from under $22k to over $24.6k in less tha 3 hours. How sweet it is.

Looks like $25k is safe for now but let's see what happens after the market digests this.

A little sideways would be healthy now. Then we can get back to correcting the ridiculous dip below $40k.

...NY Regulators swooped in and confiscated all assets and operations...

Ahhh, the land of the free.  Cool

Good day Bitcoinland.
A pretty good day indeed.
Lovely Bart back up.

SVB bank run
Reminding us that Bitcoin
Is the only way.

Money in the bank?
What a silly expression!
Hodlers laugh out loud.

Twenty-two thousand
Is barely a start.
Onward and upward!

According to Bitcoin experts

"experts"

The only "Bitcoin expert" is (or was) Satoshi.

We are at the dawn of the decentralisation of all things. Wrenching back control to the people through peaceful means.
Bitcoin was the Genesis of it all.

The decentralization movement started long before Bitcoin. The reason why I was immediately attracted to Bitcoin when I first found out about it was that I was already a decentralization enthusiast.

I prefer to think that Napster was the voice crying in the wilderness. Napster itself was centralized (just the users were decentralized) and doomed to fail but it led to a decentralization evolution through Kazaa and Limewire, then through Bittorrent and Magnet Links and then the decentralization of PirateBay onto redundant servers on a network of virtual machines running in the cloud across many countries and continents.

It also wasn't always peaceful. Hardware was seized and people went to jail. In the long run though, the people were destined to win. War has changed over history. No longer do brightly uniformed bugle- and bagpipe-blowing drum-beating armies line up on the field of battle. Guerilla warfare is the standard now and is evolving into bot and virus warfare.

Exciting times indeed.

Good morning Bitcoinland. Back up over $20k, barely.

Been away for a bit. Week from hell.

First our flight to Cancun was delayed twice and then cancelled by a massive blizzard. Then we were stuck on the plane when the connecting ramp at the airport gate malfunctioned. Didn't get to our hotel in Playa del Carmen until after midnight. Dentist appointment at 11:00am but we hadn't eaten since noon so we went out to the local live music bar only to find the kitchen closed. Luckily a friend working there talked them into making us some nachos con pollo. After 3 double margaritas each our hunger and stress were abated and we made it back to our hotel by 1:00am. Disco noise nearby kept us awake until after 3:00am.

Got up  at 8:00 for coffee and enchiladas con mole and were about to go out to find a taxi when the dentist Whatsapped me to say my teeth hadn't arrived from the lab as promised and re-booked me for 4:00pm, then again for 6:00pm. We sat in his waiting room for another half hour waiting for the delivery dude to finally show up. More margaritas required.

Made it out to our little jungle village to find out that they were going to shut down the power for 2 days. We turned on the freezer and froze enough buckets of ice to feed the Coleman cooler that serves as our fridge during outages. Our trusty little Honda EU2000i will run our freezer, air conditioner, LED lights and all our electronics including chargers for over 8 hours on a gallon of gas, but we have to turn off the AC to use anything else. Unfortunately someone had "borrowed" most of our well-preserved gas supply and we were critically low on fuel. The power outage meant that the gas pumps didn't work. Luckily a local kept an overpriced supply of gas available in big coke bottles.

The power is back on today so we again have internet which is our only communication. We have no landline or cellphone service here. Everybody uses Whatsapp. Luckily we've learned to be prepared for the unexpected out here.

Now to try to find a cheap flight back next week. Gotta be back before the end of March. Got a gig on April Fools Day.

Salud!

good old times Smiley Grin Grin

Wow. A color monitor and a real FDD, no cassette tape. The joystick is cool though.

When I put together my first mouse-driven system, a Radio Shack CoCo3 running OS-9, I found the mouse to be clunky and inconvenient. I used a joystick to move the cursor and click. I didn't abandon the joystick and start using a mouse until Win95.

Now if only transitioning to annoying touchscreens was as easy.  Cool

Chart buddy is a real guy or some bot that posts exactly after one hour? All his posts are with gap of exact one hour.

ChartBuddy is a real guy, as hisslyness mentioned.

Philip is going to beat up chartbuddy in March (or at least that's what Philip said... and we know how that kind of thing goes.. when it comes to Philip.. )... hahahahahaha

Oh yeah, right!  I suppose you'd have us believe there's someone behind the curtain in The Wizard of Oz too?  Who do you think we are, some sort of brainless tin men?

There's always someone behind the curtain. In CB's case it's Richy.

I just wish Richy would get rid of the silly price numbers though. They give noobs the impression that CD is about the price.

CB is all about order book depth. That's why it's wall observation.

Why do you think, that hardware wallets are a bad way to hold bitcoins?

They involve trust.

Where did you get your paper wallets from? Did you run someone else's code (even offline) to generate them? If you did, your paper wallets also involve trusting that coder's skills and motives.

The only way to completely eliminate trust is to write the wallet-generating code entirely by yourself (which then adds the possibility of compromising your security by not doing it right).

I use an ancient open-source HTML address-generating program. I forget what it's called. I'm too lazy to fire up my non-internet-capable PC to see.

My trust is mainly in trusting that some eagle-eyed coder would have spotted any shenanigans long ago. I generally trust open-source.

No stress in bitcoin,  you don't need to go through Terrible stress over your hard earn money to secure it.

Install a wallet and you're done? No you're not done. They left out the most important step.

Get your Bitcoin out of that wallet and into secure non-vulnerable cold storage addresses.

Wallets are weak, even hardware ones. They should only be used on a transitory basis for moving coins, never for long-term storage.
